Maher, Palin and NOW

The left’s penchant to apply double-standards when it comes to speech was on full display again last week, as it took the National Organization for Women (NOW) four days to reluctantly admit that Bill Maher might have crossed the line while insulting Sarah Palin. According to NOW, denouncing Maher’s use of a gender-associated vulgarism was a relatively unimportant, time-consuming distraction that kept them from far more important work. Of course, it was NOW’s colleagues on the left who long ago decided that Palin’s use of language they don’t like – such as daring to utter the word “reload” – is terribly provocative and of the utmost importance.

Maher’s obsession with the former governor of Alaska resurfaced in the wake of the devastating earthquake that hit Japan earlier this month. Somehow, that tragedy translated into an excuse to insult Palin once again. After claiming that Palin wanted to invade the nation of “Tsunami” and that she said that “these Tsunamians will not get away with this,” Maher punctuated his attempt at humor by observing that Sarah Palin is a “dumb tw*t.”

It’s ironic that Maher would dare to question the intelligence of anyone, of any gender. This is after all the same fellow whose one appearance on a serious national news show featured him declaring that Brazil “got off oil” over the last thirty years and that the South American country now powers their economy on sugar cane. In fact, Brazil is the world’s ninth largest oil producer and the president of the United States wants to trade batteries for more Brazilian oil imports. Clearly, Maher is not a bright enough bulb to evaluate anyone’s intelligence.

One would expect that Maher’s misogynist remarks about Palin would raise hackles at NOW, but the organization refused to even discuss the issue when Fox asked for a comment. Then, on Tuesday, NOW finally issued a response of sorts. The group’s communications director, Lisa Bennett, published a blog post that was somewhat critical of Maher’s remarks, without bothering to name the comedian or address the incident directly.

I despise Palin, for a host of reasons that I won't go into. But Maher was so out of line that it makes my head hurt thinking of it. As for NOW, such self-serving doctrinaire BS obviates pretty much anything they have to offer.

I like Sarah Palin. I think Maher is an arrogant, sarcastic unfunny creep.

      • TG Browning

Somebody must like Palin. I mean, she certainly has enough defenders …

Well, as for Maher, it's not the first time he's been gooferized…so to speak. He has a slew weird ideas about medince/health/vitamins and whatnot.

I guess you prefer the dominatrix of your dreams Hillary Clinton in her black leather beating you bare butt with her whips.

      • TG Browning

If it makes you feel any better (or not–now that I think about it. I'm not terribly concerned with our opinion), I despise Hillary Clinton as well and *that* opinion goes all the way back to the first Clinton administration.

I'm curious — what possible .brain-drain reason could make you give a damn about my opinion on Palin?

        Browning>>>

        • USMCSniper

She basically is a nice woman, bright but naive about making enemies, and never learned that your enemies will work twice as hard to hurt you as you friends will to help you. Jor Biden is vice President and he is a brick with arms and legs. Whe he said, "When Roosvelt held fire chats with the Ametican people on TV " I died laughing!

          • TG Browning

Can't argue with what you have to say (bright woman, naive, etc), but don't agree. We're into the realm of personal belief mixed with personality and that's simply not good grounds for political discussion. Can't argue with yon our statements about Biden since he appears to be a Democratic throw-back to Dan Quayle, possibly on steroids. (Didn't laugh, myself, when I heard about fireside chats on TV. Cringed, yes. Laughed, no.

      Because you're angry?

Imagine that. You despise Palin. Of all the figures in the world today, you despise Palin. I'd love to go through the list of who you don't despise. Ayers, Rangle, Oliver Stone, Sean Penn, Chaves, President of Iran I'minajihad and our empty suit President………..did i miss anyone?

      • TG Browning

My reasons for despising Palin aren't any of your business and have no bearing on the topic at hand.– which is Maher and his stupid, arrogant,, and generally worthless evaluation.

You know, I kind of wonder about people who are unable to write comments without getting into personal attacks and slander, either of me (for not likely Palin) or Maher for being such a lack-wit to make the comments he did. Is it because you can't really write? Have feeble skills in communication in general?

The mysteries of life abound, don't they?

You despise Palin, for a host of reasons that you won't go into? Means you really don't have any valid reasons to despise her.

  • punchumgum

It's Palin's consistent use of sexist taunts such as "limp", "impotent" and "cojones" that NOW objects to, and rightly.

    • alan g

      That is pretty lame.

    • USMCSniper

Ah yesss…. NOW, the Nation Organization of Women, nutcases that encourage women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.

      • punchumgum

Look who came running when I wrote "limp" and "impotent". And stop pretending to be a US Marine, you're just another pasty obese Sarah Palin bot. And you're a coward.

        • USMCSniper

No I am a lean green mean killing machine. I crap mortar rounds and squirt napalm. I bet you look like "grungy glutton" Michael Moore and waddle instead of walk just like him. You are just another ledtist idiot with his lips pressed to Obama's hemmoroids.

  • Amused

They are BOTH worthy of criticism …..and mocking .

    • Vinny

Who are you referring to when you say, "both"? It's not sarcasm, it's just there are more than two people/organizations involved.

      • USMCSniper

If he means NOW and the metrosexual Maher, I agree!

  • Amused

And BTW Rich , you are INDEED a master of spin ! I love how you use the * asterisk when you spelled " dumb tw*t " refering to Mahers remark . LOL…when on this website , one of the articles written ,refers to Rachel Maddow as a TWIT , capitalized and fully spelled !
The hypocrisy is beyond breathtaking , to comical . How can you guys keep a straight face ?
Where in the hell is Alfred E. Newman when you need him ?

    • kafir4life

Hey, Amused! It wasn't the same word! And BTW….Rachel Madcow IS a twit! And does anybody know which direction he/she is heading? If it's a female to make conversion it might be able to pull it off, but if it's pulling it off and going male to female, not a chance anybody buys it. That face has too many masculine features. He'll always be Roger Madcow to me.
      C u next tuesday!

    • bearone7777

Hey amused TWIT is a whole lot different than the nasty word that "IDIOT" Bill Maher used okay. Are you not able to see that?

    • Jane Larson Baer

twit is not a sexist word, twat is

Amused is a back door bunman so he is not familar with the female anatomy.

For my entire adult life, I've tried to temper my language to that of what most would be considered proper. Here's a partial list of language that has been rendered "just fine for any company by the left in and out of government, and who to thank.
Sen Carl Levin – Sh*tty deal
VP Joe Biden – This is a big f*cking deal
Senator Schmuck (the kapo) Chumer – B*itch, Far right-wing tea-bagger
    Bill Maher – t*at
Jerry Brown (and the "head" of NOW) – Whore / Political Whore
THANKS LIBS!!! We'll be sure to use them copiously to describe you!

There are others, but it's early and the coffee is still brewing.

  • bob maram

i am dismayed by both the tea party looney right rhetoric and also by the more dangerous left wing anti israel rantings and its belief that western civilization is somehow inferior to that of other cultures. hopefully the dynamics of a center right coalition can help defeat both these viciousand ridiculousextreme movements bob maram

    • bearone7777

Bob when you say the "LOONEY RIGHT" are you referring to the fact that all the TEA-PARTY wants is for Constitution to be used, and to be honored as the document that it was meant to be. The entire basis for the Gov. of this nation. Tell me bob is that what you are not happy with. If it is maybe we should all give up, and sleep the rest of "OUR" collective life's away. Because there is no \need to make the federal gov. do what it is suppose to do, and that is live within the Const. of the U.S.A.

      • USMCSniper

Give me an example of so-called Tea Party rhetoric. Explain far-right to me, and do not use the National Workers Socialist Party NAZIs, as that is leftist and that bullsh*t game is invalid

  • sgreco

I'm so sorry, Ms. Conservative. Was the comment tactless, rude and offensive to you personally? I can't tell you how often Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh and a host of right-wing personalities have railed against progressives' acts of "political correctness." Why, it seems like yesterday that Dr. laura shouted the N-word 11 times to an african-american woman who said she found the term degrading. The reality is, the shoe is now on the other foot and Ms. Palin doesn't much like it.

I shall begin composing her violin song after I finish crying her this river.

    • tagalog

I'm a right-winger and I agree with you. Those douche bags at NOW can complain or not complain about any dickweed who uses sexist words, that they choose in their blonde world.

    • lessiboy

Dr. Laura was asked by this black woman whether the fact that some of white husband's friends use the N-word is insulting. Laura replied that it depended on the context, since many black musicians, singers, and comedians use the word liberally, etc. The black woman did not like this answer, and in fact went ballistic. Dr. Laura wrote an apology and issued it the next morning. But it didn't help. CNN gave it wall-to-wall coverage, and it was the number one international story on google news. Dr. Laura was now supposedly a racist bigot. Dr. Laura points out that a Jesse Jackson (who is black and leftist) called President Obama "an f-ing half-breed N," but no one called for boycotts against him.
Every few years, says Laura, some group gets furious at her and goes after her show's sponsors and affiliates. This time it was too much, and she quit terrestrial radio.
So sgreco (above post) is shooting without asking questions first.

  • Jim_C

Well, look who's all politically correct now!

Is Sarah Palin suddenly NOT a dumb tw*t? Did I miss something?

    • USMCSniper

Nancy Pelosi is dumb, Hillary Clinton is intellectually incompetent and potty mouth crude, and Maxine Waters is a brick with arms and legs. And they are all butt ugly to boot!

Butt Ugly? Butt Ugly??? That's how you rate political types you disagree with and dislike?

Sheesh I strongly urge you to come up with something that is at least appropriate to the topic. Seriously. Most people (thank whatever deity that might be listening) will automatically reject all of what you have to say when you spout such tripe.

Don't be too sure that she "lives her values". In the next few months there are two books – and truckloads of emails that have been hidden since 2008 – to come out. I'm betting we'll find that Mrs Palin "lives her values" the same way her pregnant daughter did.

  • Indioviejo

Question? What kind of material was Obama made of?

  • Amused

Last night Palin came out with another of her patented uninformed lies , which she fed to her drooling sycophants , that the Libyan Action is costing 600 million a day . Sorry Sarah , it was 600 million for 7 Days .
    Maher was being KIND !

  • Amused

She couldn't get enough attention as governor way up there in Alaska , and besides , in my own opinion , she left before any skeletons fell out of the closet . Palin's material for Jersey Shores , but any meaningfull political office ? You can not be serious .

    • USMCSniper

How is this for Hillary Clinton's skeletons in the closet. Professor Tommy "The Commie" Emerson also got her her law internship as the personal law clerk to Robert Truehaft, the head of the CA CPUSA and the Chief Counsel for the entire Communist Party USA. Edward Kennedy's lawyer, Burke Marshal, who was a friend and colleague of Robert Truehaft along with her Yale mentor Professor Emerson got her the job on the Watergate committee staff. She was outrightly fired by general counsel and chief of staff of the Watergate House Judiciary Committee, Jerry Zeifman, for lying, outrageous behavior (throwing tantrum tirades), unethical conduct, and serious Constitutional procedural violations. Mr. Zeifman, general counsel and chief of staff for the Watergate Committee, said he fired her, "Because she was a liar," in an interview. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality. Had she she submitted briefs like she wrote to a court she would have been disbarred."

Sarah Palin has more class in her tonail clippings than all of her detractors combined. Her detractors consist of frightened, mentally deficient (dreanged) leftists, who are angry with her because she constantly ridicules the so-called president by pointing out his many faults. She also has detractors on the right, and they are as entitled to their delusions as are the leftist nit pickers.

As for ability, she has proven abilities as opposed to the limp-dick in chief who is nothing more than a kid let loose in a candy store. And why WON'T the little bastard release his actual birth certificate?

America really screwed up bigtime. We are the losers and he is touring the world on our dime. And insipid twits who have no redeeming features about them at all – at all – achieve notoriety by criticizing Sarah Palin. What incredible sickness.

    • Arius

Yes, what incredible sickness. There is a pathological blood lust in the Palin hatred in the previous comments. That kind of hatred is usually due to projection of part of oneself onto the object, which is then hated. Is it hatred of an aspect of oneself. America is dominated by two sick sides, the left and the right, each projecting aspects of themselves onto the other, then hating that aspect of themselves in the other. This self hatred is destroying the West.

  • highcottonquinn

Yeah, I'm going to vote for Palin after Soros money taking, Juan McAmnesty chose her for his running mate WITHOUT properly vetting her. He picked her because she was A. female and B. attractive. We're supposed to vote for her because it will be "historic" to elect the first female president and because she's attractive. Palin is an ass and I refuse to vote for her no matter how hard the neocons cram her down my throat.

  • Bill589

The most common attribute of commentators that don’t like Sarah Palin, is that they don’t know Sarah Palin. Previous commentators here are way off. Research, and then comment.

  • Jim_C

Palin not only allowed herself to be put in a position she has no business being in–that is, a vice-presidential candidate/governorship-quitting/reality TV show star/politcal commentator–she seems to relish in it. I actually thought she was probably a decent person who got in over her head; now, I'm pretty sure she's not especially decent, either.

I don't think she deserves the vitriol, but it's not like she doesn't invite it. It's not as though she puts her nose to the grindstone and does real work. It's not as though she hasn't sought a spotlight. There are a lot more serious and dignified ways to comport yourself then the paths she's chosen.
