Why Obama Is Really Turning Gray

Michelle Obama declares that her husband’s graying hair proves he deserves another term as president. Quod erat demonstrandum (Q.E.D.), as a mathematician would say. Science , however, does not agree. It’s more likely that we’re seeing in Obama’s hair signs of normal aging.
Although, as any Republican will testify, Ronald Reagan’s hair never turned gray, even in his 90s. Maybe Reagan didn’t have the stress of knowing—as Obama must realize by now — that he is an incompetent who is always making wrong policy decisions. It must be stressful finding out that everything you staunchly believe is flat wrong.
ABC News reported Aug.4 that on the president’s 50th birthday his wife said her husband’s graying hair is “proof” he’s handled his job well and deserves re-election in 2012. “Every day, [except when she’s gallivanting on vacation in foreign countries] I see Barack make choices he knows will affect every American family.” Such as overhauling national health care, which he wrongly promised would bring competition, choices, savings, and efficiency. Or insisting on the touted stimulus law that stimulated plenty of ridicule. Or the decision to go into Libya briefly, but which gave the U.S. a third war to soak up tax dollars.
Mrs. Obama made her latest promotional statement in an e-mail blast to supporters. Making presidential decisions “is no small task for anyone—and more proof that he’s earning every last one of those gray hairs,” she said.
Marie Antoinette’s hair turned white at age 37. But she was ill, hemorrhaging constantly, and probably dying from tuberculosis, as Ann Coulter describes in her new book, “Demonic.” But the French Queen was headed for the guillotine. Obama, on the other hand, is headed for another year or so of campaigning and extravagant fundraising to pay for television lies about Republicans. Most knowledgeable people would suspect he is thinking more about how to rope in votes than about choices that “will affect every American family.”
The message from Michelle, said the ABC news story, “is the latest effort by the President’s re-election campaign to use the occasion of Obama’s birthday to energize his followers and, indirectly, encourage the contribution of their time and money in the months ahead,”
Mrs. Obama went on to mention, for the information of those who have not had their ears numbed by the thousands of prime-time nightly campaign speeches Obama has made, “This next year will challenge us all to work harder than ever before. But the crucial thing is that you’re here now, early on, helping to build this campaign.” The First Lady added that she and her daughters wanted supporters to send birthday wishes to the president by signing an electronic card.
“Your names and notes will become part of a book that will tell the story of this campaign—who’s building it, why we’re in this thing and what it means to us. We’ll deliver a copy to Barack and send one to our campaign offices across the country.” Old-fashion folks who expect birthday cakes to be a central attraction should know that’s passé. The First Family will celebrate the president’s birthday at two private events with friends and staff and the White House. The really important celebrations were two birthday-themed campaign fundraisers in Chicago and his speeches via video conference to more than 1,160 grassroots house parties in his honor all around this great celebratory former land of the free.
Mrs. Obama, as an obesity warrior, probably lacks the scientific knowledge about why hair really turns gray. Does eating turkey make you sleepy? That is what’s known as an old wive’s tale. So is the notion that stress turns your hair gray. Robert Shmerling of Harvard Health publications writes: If you look at photos of President Obama taken before he ran for President and then more recently, you’ll notice a distinct difference. Where there used to be only dark brown hair, there are now areas of gray dotting the landscape. It seems that the stress of running a country would turn any person’s hair gray. But is stress really to blame? And why does hair turn gray even for those of us who don’t have jobs quite as stressful as President Obama’s.
“Stress doesn’t actually turn hair gray …so hair cannot suddenly turn gray if you are under a great deal of stress….Your hair follicles produce less color as they age. So, when hair goes through its natural cycle of dying and being regenerated, it’s more likely to grow in as gray,” says Schmerling.
As much as Michelle Obama or any other Obama supporters would like to portray the president as gray from concern over Americans, Obama has shown that his only grave concern is how to hang on as president, which, according to opinion polls he’s doing by a hair.
