Honoring an Anti-Semite?

At a time of increasing anti-Semitism in many parts of the world, it is deeply disturbing that the city of Clifton, N.J., — in the shadows of New York City — is considering naming a park after a virulent anti-Semite and racist named Chester Grabowski, who died in April.

At least one obituary of Grabowski earlier this year innocuously called him an “advocate for Polish-Americans.” But the truth is much more troubling.

For decades, Grabowski published a newspaper in Clifton called The Post Eagle. In that newspaper, Grabowski repeatedly referred to Jews as “vermin,” “animals” and “Christ killers.”

Grabowski refused to comply with the dictates of Vatican II in 1965, which declared it a sin to promote anti-Semitism or to blame the Jews for killing Christ. Instead, he urged his readers to never “forget and forgive them for deciding to kill our God, and their God, which they refused to recognize.”

Nor was Grabowski’s anti-Semitism unknown to people in the area. A 1984 article written about Grabowski in the Bergen Record documented his hate-filled writings and described them as “vitriolic anti-Semitic diatribes.”

Grabowski himself was a Holocaust denier who published material accusing Jews of fomenting anti-Semitism, imposing Communism on Poland and creating virtually all the evils in the world.

Little wonder the Anti-Defamation League, dedicated to fighting anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry, consistently condemned Grabowski.

Not only was Grabowski anti-Semitic, he was a racist who published an advertisement from the Ku Klux Klan wishing “all polenta a merry White Christmas” — and illustrating that racist wish with a drawing of Santa Claus wearing a Klan hood.

Yet despite this well-known and extensive documentation of Grabowski’s anti-Semitism and bigotry, the proposal to name a park — where young children will play — after him has received significant support among public officials in the Clifton area. Among the idea’s backers were Sheriff Richard Berdnik and local Congressman Bill Pascrell.

But when Pascrell learned of Grabowski’s background, he changed his mind, saying, “There can be never be room for anti-Semitism in any context.”  Sheriff Berdnik also withdrew his support.  But some public officials, even after hearing of Grabowski’s long history of bigotry, have continued to push for the proposal to name the park after him.

The primary advocate for this outrageous proposal has been Grabowski’s son, Matthew, who serves as the member of the City Council of Clifton.  In interviews, he claims that his father’s motives and beliefs have been distorted and taken out of context.

The son must be aware of his father’s long history of anti-Semitism and racism. Yet he continues to press for honoring his father, because, he claims, his father did other good things for the Polish-American community.

That is simply unacceptable. The central theme by which the late Grabowski sought to unite Polish-Americans was old-fashioned anti-Semitism and anti-black racism.

This is not about critics like myself misunderstanding the Polish perspective on history. The current Polish government has rejected anti-Semitism and has tried hard to build bridges with the Jewish community and with Israel. Most Polish-Americans today have no patience for Grabowski’s brand of bigotry, either.

If Clifton goes forward with the proposal to name the park after Grabowski, that city and that park will become symbols of bigotry around the world.

Nobody ever tried to stop Grabowski from exercising his free speech. Under our First Amendment, he was entitled to engage in hate speech, just as the Nazis who marched through Skokie, Ill., were entitled to spew their hatred.

But Skokie did not honor the Nazis that marched through its streets. If Clifton decides to honor its most famously anti-Semitic and racist resident, it will stand for prejudice.

I have a better idea about who the park should be named after. Jan Karski was a distinguished Polish-American who taught human rights at Georgetown University. As a young Catholic lawyer in Poland, he documented the Holocaust being committed against Polish Jews, and risked his life to tell the world about it. The street adjoining the Polish Consulate in New York is now named in Karski’s honor, and Karski posthumously received the Medal of Freedom from the U.S.

When the children of Clifton are playing in the park, and they ask about the person after whom it was named, it would be far better to tell them about the honorable life of Jan Karski than about the dishonorable life of Chester Grabowski.

May as well be naming a park after William Pierce, Charles Coughlin or William Pelley Dudley if they do go ahead with this proposal.

These caraters are down right crazy. The take Israeal from the Palestinians or Palistine in 1949, now Dershowitz is mad at the guy? Why didn't he tell someone his feelings before the man nearly got killed, killing the Palestinians? Check out the boys of Prussia.

Some years ago, I was a graduate student, in an area with a large concentration of Poles. As I was delivering the newspaper one bitterly cold morning, in a blue-collar neighborhood, an elderly Polish lady came out of her house, and offered me a nice, steaming mug of hot chocolate. I'll never forget it. Poles anti-semitic? Certainly the subject of this article was, and a few others, but the great majority aren't.

I'm from Detroit and knew plenty of wonderful people of Polish decent. But that's not the issue. The issue is naming a park after this piece of dreck. That would be disgusting and there is simply no excuse for doing that.

Chester Grabowski makes that it clear that he, they are for the cause of the white man and the progress thereof. What he doesn't say is that he is for the better of the white man on the backs of non-white men. White are very lazy loud mouth hobbits. Not all of them, but a good percentage of them. They are quite knowledgeable about various things in life but they also narcissist selfish hobbits. They believe the world revolves around them like Netanyhue. He can't get along with his neighbors so he wants to destroy the world. This is the mentality of these people who makes life and the world bad for everyone. I don't care if someone is Jewish, Polish, German, English, Russian, Armenian, Persian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Indigenous or Arabic, if you can only see another as yourself, then you are missing out on the experience. Get a life. Read about what that Polish lady did to the non-white community in Martinsville, Virginia. She went into that community to get $6 and came out with Seven(7) dead men. Russia was the only country in the world to ask the state of Virginia to spare their lives. Russia knows about the Polish people and their ploys. Not all Polish people, but they need to be kept in check. George Washington was Polish. Check into his past. The Polish people and the constant racism in the United States is shepherd by them from the beginning. Josef Conrad is no different from any of these Chester Grabowski's, David Dukes or Rush Limbargh or Newt Gingrich. These people will stay at the top of society by any means necessary. Look at their history. The new world was suppose to be different but the Polish people cause too much trouble for the indigenous folks and those who were trying to start a new life.

Paul this was an interesting share and you may have had a wonderful experience with this woman but if you look into the history of Martinsville, Virginia, where a woman of Polish descent went into a all-nonwhite neighborhood in 1949, slightly clad attire. She went into that neighborhood with malicious intention at the height of the white movement, and the furthering of the white man cause. The same cause that Chester Grabowski says that Mr. Dershowitz, Polish Jew, won't get out of the way for. This cause has a genocide flavor to it. Nevertheless, Russia is the only nation in the world who ask that Virginia spare the lives of these men and to this day, No white man has been put to death for the rape, sodomy, or sexual crime in these United States of this America. Look at your history. She is and was as hostile as any white man entering anothers neighborhood today. Ask the Muslims? Vietnamese? Russians? Babylonians? Iraqis? Iranians? Persians? Greek? Egyptian? Etc? Espceially, South African? The Zulu? Poussant L'Overture? Check out the history of Prussia?

Ruby Stroud Floyd was married to a dead in the water kind of guy and craved for attention of the American man who are the strength of the renewed and invigorated relation that the Eurasia woman share with the American man. The European man, the white man hate this. They hate their women with great envy when they share themselves with strong and virile men. Race, creed or nothing can stop this envy that makes him turn white with envy.

        • Taylor

She carried a tremendous amount of pain in her for the white man ravished everything he came across. Look at the history. She manipulated the situation and Judge Whittle, a Polish, transplant, knew the conspiracy and did nothing about it. Falwell knew of this crime against humanity and it is why he took up staunch position against Larry Flynt. Larry Flynt knew that eastern European had a tremendous appetite for men and European men were not satisfying the need nor the urge. European women have cause revolutions. The white man knows it refuse to recognize it in publicly. Look at your history.

I wish Alan Dershowitz would use his status in a more efficient and honest way.
The issue of a park in New Jersey pales in comparison to the radical actions of our president for his obvious anti Israel/pro radical muslim actions…..
Hey Dersh, don't you think it's about time to take a stand for your Jewish people instead of
appeasing Obama, a symbol of radical muslim sentiment? Forget using your status for a little
unknown park in N.J. and attack the real person who has made it fashionable to unleash anti semitism
    in America.

Professor Dershowitz is part of the Victim Disarmament Movement, wanting ever-more "gun control." He is simply yet another well meaning Ivy League Jewish egghead who believes that oratory alone
can stop pogroms and jihads. Thank G-d for the 2nd Amendment.

Grabowski is easy to identify and condemn, but antisemitism takes many forms, some of them more subtle. The embedded forms of antisemitism are a major focus on my website, and here is the index to them: http://clarespark.com/2012/09/29/index-to-blogs-o…. "Index to blogs on antisemitism." I am less concerned about the park naming, and more concerned that schools warn us against racism, but "the Jews" as a collective demeaned by "great writers" and cartoonists are ignored by curriculum reformers.

  • SCREW SOCIALISM

May Melvin Gibson and his Evil father Hutton join Chester the Molester Grabowski to Hell too.

You can reliably guess that Matthew, Chesters son, shares his views.

Pascrall only backed off from supporting the naming because Pascrall is running for Congress in New Jersey right now. Based on his associations and supporters, Pascrall is a bum too.

God told Abraham that He would make him a great nation and bless those that bless the Jews and curse those who curse the Jews. I know too many Christians who don't know this. Yes, Jews gave Jesus to Pilate and demanded that He be crucified. But, remember, the first Christians were Jews. Most people don't think about that. They only remember that Jews crucified Jesus. Yes, there are many liberal Jews and some of them are pretty awful, like George Soros who helped the Nazis confiscate property from Jews during the Holocaust and who is an avowed atheist. But there are many Jews who have blessed the nations of this world. And David Horowitz is one of them!

    • SCREW SOCIALISM

First, the Romans executed Jesus. Why blame the Jews for the actions of pagan Romans?

Second, the Jews of today pray to the same God that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob prayed to, and Jesus prayed to.

    • Mr. Polly

In Gensis 12:3 God is depicted as saying TO ABRAHAM, "I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who curse you." There is no reference to "Jews" in this passage, unsurprisingly since no such category of beings as "Jews" existed at the time.

      • aspacia

God was addressing the heirs of Isaac, not Ishmael. The heirs of Isaac are Jews you idiot!

  • EdR

It doesn't matter how much "good" this character did for the Polish community. His hatred and racism negates all of it.

Grabowski should have been grateful to the Jews if indeed they played a role in getting the Romans to crucify Jesus. The Creator of the heavens and the earth does not have the power simply to forgive sin; punishment has to go somewhere. Jesus, who is both God and the Son of God, came to earth to suffer and take this punishment. Without Him, Grabowski would have had to go to hell. http://www.jochnowitz.net/Essays/GospelOfJudas.ht
