Who Are America’s Reliable Allies?

Pages: 1 2

In a quickly changing world, it is important to ask which countries the United States can always count on in times of crisis.  Recent events have shortened that list considerably.

India has long claimed to be a reliable ally, but it is now undercutting American efforts to impose meaningful sanctions against Iran.  Its help cannot any longer be counted on in the struggle against the greatest danger faced by the United States—an Iran with nuclear weapons.  Japan, another ally, is dilly dallying on sanctions as well.  Brazil used to be a reliable partner, until it began to fall under the sway of Venezuela’s Chavez, who is closely allied with Iran and other American enemies.  The “new” Russia and China demonstrated their lack of reliability when they vetoed American efforts in the Security Council to help resolve the Syrian crisis.  Egypt, which has received billions of dollars of American aid, has defied American warnings not to put US citizens on trial on phony, trumped-up charges.  Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the Emirates are now playing footsy with Hamas and Hezbollah, also Iranian surrogates, as they worry about the contagion of the Arab Spring and the growing influence of the Muslim Brotherhood.

It turns out that other than Europe, Israel may be America’s only remaining reliable ally.  And even some European countries, such as France, Sweden and Norway, are in doubt.

Israel will always remain a strong American ally because it shares an American commitment to democracy, to freedom of religion, to freedom of expression and to an open market economy.  It also shares a common commitment to fight against terrorism and other threats to the security of the United States—a commitment that is less that vigorous among some European countries.

Some political scientists and state department officials, who call themselves “realists”, question Israel’s value as an American ally.  They are wrong, and recent events confirm how wrong they are and have been.

There is no doubt that America helps Israel enormously, as it should help those who share our democratic values. But there is also no doubt that Israel helps the United States considerably, by sharing its extraordinary intelligence-gathering capabilities, its military R&D, its computer know-how and other intangibles.  As other nations in the region debate whether American troops should even be allowed to set foot on their territory, Israel welcomes the American military to engage in joint exercises.  In its nearly 64 years of existence, Israel has never asked for a single American soldier to fight its battles.  It fights its own battles while assisting the American military in defending our country against terrorism and other threats to our citizens.

When will some, crackerjack and co. learn to go and do their homework before coming to their own conclusions. The powers at be knew very well what the Liberty was doing – not just sailing along peacefully – but feeding Israel's enemies with intelligence they themselves did not have -AND THAT IS WHY THE LIBERTY WAS ATTACKED. Does anyone in his right mind, for one moment think that Israeli Intelligence is that dumb;try again. As I have researched, Israel warned the US to stay out of the scramble, and got what it deserved for not adhering. Just goes to show, when you poke a stick in a beehive, chances are good that you will get stung, as the Liberty"s taskmasters(ALL OF THEM RIGHT UP TO TOP LEVEL), very well learned.

Israel apologized for the incident. At the moment, Israel is one of our best allies because it allows U.S. boots on the ground as they now are.

Look, Japan also killed 2,600 military men and is now our ally. Should we throw them under the bus too. How about Germany. How about the UK and all the Patriots who died in the Revolutionary War.

tricky, you are the fool, a bigot and have zero idea about political shifting alliances. During WWII Russian was our ally, but soon became our enemy.

You like so many people are historically ignorant of the facts and even the uncertainties. I suggest you go to http://www.nsa.gov and read the entire history of the Liberty incident including all of the declassified communications between the United States and Israel at that time.

On that date you are talking to one person, me, who actually was there in an RC130 Recon Aircraft off the coast of Egypt and Israel recording all of the Air Traffic as the Six Day War began and unfolded. There was also a Naval Recon Aircraft there.

Yes, the Liberty incident was a tragedy. Read the State Department documents before you open your mouth. Israel was and is a staunch ally of the United States. This President is NOT a friend of Israel nor are so many of the Progressive Socialist-Marxists in our government, State Department and the White House.

America's RELIABLE allies are England,Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Canada, Australia, Poland, Norway, Georgia, etc…………..These nations stand side by side with US troops in Afghanistan, Libya or Iraq. They pay their own bills and support the US administration in diplomatic affairs.

A shortend casualty list of the real Allies who died alongside US troops, while Israel as usual, stood on the side lines, following only its own interests.

        Canada 158

        Georgia 12
        Norway 10
        Hungary 7

Israel was, as usual, busy catering for its own interests. And when ever did Israelis stand alongside US troops on the front line?

Stll Derschowitz has the cheek to smear the memory of those who died alongside US troops and defame their countrys. A man without honour and a traitor who's alliegence lays outside the USA.

Israel is surrounded by people who at any moment would invade or destroy it doesn’t have the ability to let any military be taken out of position. It is a 7/24 thing. And why can't Israel be just a normal, regular ally of the USA, one among may, no more no less? Why does Israel have to be hightend by defamation and degregation of all other allies and partners? Do England or France, Holland, Poland, Greece, etc, constantly expect and proclaim special relations and never ending commitment, although these nations battled two world war alongside the US long before Israel was even created?

Is it insecurity or an inferiority complex driving self acclaimed propagandists like Derschowitz ? As an Israeli, I would feel embarrassed seeing my country crawling for the US's acknowledgement and favour in this unworthy fasion.

When listing what Israel has provided the US in return for the aid why not mention the wealth that has acrued to American companies like Intel, IBM, Microsoft etc., for all the R&D and while you’re at it mention that the Stent keeping Bill Clinton peachy was thought up a by an Israeli fighter pilot – now that should make him persona non grata in some quarters.

So now the US is to thank Israelis for eaning money and doing business in the US? LOL

In the Cold War, it was Turkey that stuck with the US through thick and thin in the Middeast, stationing US nuclear missiles on its territory at the risk of Soviet retaliation. Israel, as usual, followed its own interests by developing its own "ambiguous" nuclear arms and leaving the defense of the West up to the USA and NATO.

      • aspacia

We pulled our missiles out of Turkey in return for the Soviets taking their nukes out of Cuba. Regardless, at the moment Turkey is not ally.

        • Elcid76

The Cuban mille Crisi was in 1962. in 1978 i was stationed in Turkey at a nuke weapons detachment on the Sea of Marmara. I was in Gallipoli on a WWI battlefield, surrounded by British cemetaries. We were within sight of theshore and could see Russian ships going from the Black Sea to the Med. My job in case of war with Russia would have been to use our nukes to keep them out of the Med. We had 4 sites on Marmara and one in the foothills of Mt Ararat on the Russian border.

          • aspacia

So, we reinstalled nukes?? Your point???

"The Soviets publicly balked at the US demands, but in secret back-channel communications initiated a proposal to resolve the crisis. The confrontation ended on October 28, 1962, when President John F. Kennedy and United Nations Secretary-General U Thant reached a public and secret agreement with Khrushchev. Publicly, the Soviets would dismantle their offensive weapons in Cuba and return them to the Soviet Union, subject to United Nations verification, in exchange for a US public declaration and agreement never to invade Cuba. Secretly, the US agreed that it would dismantle all US-built Jupiter IRBMs deployed in Turkey and Italy.

Only two weeks after the agreement, the Soviets had removed the missile systems and their support equipment, loading them onto eight Soviet ships from November 5–9. A month later, on December 5 and 6, the Soviet Il-28 bombers were loaded onto three Soviet ships and shipped back to Russia. The blockade[5] was formally ended at 6:45 pm EDT on November 20, 1962. Eleven months after the agreement, all American weapons were deactivated (by September 1963). An additional outcome of the negotiations was the creation of the Hotline Agreement and the Moscow–Washington hotline, a direct communications link between Moscow and Washington, D.C.

BTW, Gallipoli was a huge tragedy for Australian troops and the subject of several awesome poems."

          There is NO p-stine:

“There is no such country [as Palestine]! ‘Palestine’ is a term the Zionists invented! There is no Palestine in the Bible. Our country was for centuries part of Syria.”
          – Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, a local Arab leader, to the Peel Commission, 1937

“It is common knowledge that Palestine is nothing but southern Syria.”
          – Ahmed Shuqeiri, later the chairman of the PLO, to the UN Security Council

“You do not represent Palestine as much as we do. Never forget this one point: There is no such thing as a Palestinian People, there is no Palestinian entity, there is only Syria. You are an integral part of the Syrian people, Palestine is an integral part of Syria. Therefore it is we, the Syrian authorities, who are the true representatives of the Palestinian people.”
          – Syrian President Hafez Assad to PLO leader Yassir Arafat.

“There are no differences between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. We are all part of one nation. It is only for political reasons that we carefully underline our Palestinian identity…. yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity serves only tactical purposes. The founding of a Palestinian state is a new tool in the continuing battle against Israel.”
          – Zuheir Muhsin, late Military Department head of the PLO and member of its Executive Council (Dutch daily Trouw, March 1977)

“The people are in great need of a ‘myth’ to fill their consciousness and imagination….”
          – Musa Alami, 1948

“Since 1948 it is we who demanded the return of the refugees… while it is we who made them leave…. We brought disaster upon … Arab refugees, by inviting them and bringing pressure to bear upon them to leave…. We have rendered them dispossessed…. We have accustomed them to begging…. We have participated in lowering their moral and social level…. Then we exploited them in executing crimes of murder, arson, and throwing bombs upon … men, women and children–all this in the service of political purposes….”
          – Khaled Al-Azm, Syria’s Prime Minister after the 1948 war

“Since 1948 Arab leaders have approached the Palestine problem in an irresponsible manner…. they have used the Palestine people for selfish political purposes. This is ridiculous and, I could say, even criminal.”
          – King Hussein of Jordan, 1960

The U.S. would not allow Israeli troops in Afghanistan because the Islamists would use that as a galvanizing force against the Coalition. It was the same phenomenon as the Persian Gulf War, when Saddam shot SCUDs into Israel, to provoke an Israeli response and thus fracture the forces arrayed against him. The U.S. begged Israel to absorb the SCUDs without counterattack, and Israel complied.
Regarding the U.S.S. Liberty, anyone who has to go back over 40 years to find ammunition (from an isolated incident) to trot out against Israel as our ally sounds pretty desperate!

The question should be "is America a reliable ally?" With the change in the
character of our citizens and moral degeneracy attacking our institutions
what we become will answer the question. The way things are going we have
to retrace our steps and find a strong platform that can be called Americanism
and rebound from the degredation leftism, communism, socialism and foreign
beliefs that are destroying us. My hope is not to leave America less than I
found it, not to see it as gone from the greatest land of virtue into the greatest
land of vice and desperation. In November we choose the future……….William

Dershowitz is one of the few lefties who dares question some of the Obama dogma, primarily when it regards relations with Israel. I have not yet seen the Marxist establishment rise against him, but it may be a matter of time. The OWS herd that has been embraced by the Democrat establishment has been a hotbed of anti-semitism and that anti-semitism continues to grow with the Obama worshippers. Leading the charge toward a new holocaust are the lefty groups who build a new dependent class to ensure that Obama is with us for at least another 4 years. It is ironic that the new keepers of the holocaust ovens will be the black community, led on by the Jeremiah Wrights, Jesse Jacksons, Al Sharptons and their ilk who Dershowitz continues to support, along with the overwhelming majority of Jewish voters!

  • Nakba1948

"Israel may be America’s only remaining reliable ally." Is that a fact? Whom do you Zionazis think you're kidding?!!

    • http://www.dikaesha.pbwiki.com Foolster41

Everything in that article is a lie, and has been refuted, many many times before. If Isreal is an "aparthied state" why do Isreali arabs get so many rights? Why do Arabs call for the genocide of Jews ("from the river to the sea")? Why is the 1948 declaration of Isreal a "disastor" if Muslim Arabs want peace?
Your name betrays you as a Judenhass, and a dreamer of genocide. I pitty you, and pray that your heart of iron will melt.

      • Arius

Why argue with Muslims and their allies on the Left? Truth is not important to them. All that they know is how to lie.

      • http://www.themadjewess.wordpress.com MAD JEWESS

Ymch Shmo to the Jew that is a Jew hater.

  • Amused

nakba48 , if America and Israel were truly nazis or nazi-like , then savages like you and your bretheren would have long ago been exterminated , for unlike you and your fellow muslims who desire to do just that to jews , and fail constantly, Israel not driven by hatred but by the will to survive has a far superior mentality and thus a strategic advantage over hatefilled savages .
So who is really kidding who ?

  • Amused

    oh , and btw stephenx100 ….you're a dumb SCHMUCK .

    • reader

The evidence is on stephen's side. In other words, any Jew claiming to be supporting Israel and voting for Obama is a scmuck by default. As simple as that.

      • Amused

…and you're another dumb brainwashed schmuck . btw , learn how to spell SCHMUCK

        • reader

You can spell schmuck? What an achievement. Apparently, this is where your thought process begins and ends, genius.

          • Amused

LOL..,..and it is just where your stupidity begins ….as you insist on proving .

          • reader

Speaking about stupidity. This is the easiest thing to prove. You see, if an islamosupremasist nakba1948 and you – someone claiming to be supporting Israel – both vote for Obama, one of you must be stupid. Nakba1948 is an enemy. You are stupid.

  • Marti

I stand firmly with Israel and it's people!!!
They are afree nation for all people!
I hope the people remember what was done to the Jewish people during WW2!!!!
The America haters are free to migrate to Cuba or any other nation that is an America hater, don't let the door hit you on the back side when leaving!!!!!!!

    • Arius

I also stand with Israel and the Jewish people. As to the American haters: they are in control of the US. They are not leaving; they will take us down with them.

  • Arius

One of America’s unreliable allies wasn't mentioned: America! Led by the Marxist stealth Muslim anti-American Obama! The US is entering a period more dangerous than the late 1930's and in its stupidity in 2008 it put forward the worst two candidates possible, and elected the worst of the two. The US is suicidal, and along with the rest of the West is on its death march.

    • sunny

      what about india sir

  • Amused

….lol….and as far as "picking the worst two " ? lol…"Flipper Romney " and "christian ayatollah "{ who got kicked out of Pennsylvania} Santorum .

    Shocking disclosures by Dershowitz:
    1. Israel deserves the billions we give her
    2. Israel should be protected by the U.S. no matter what.
    3. Israel is better than other countries.

Lol, this is worth printing? Dershowitz is a hack flacking for Israel, posing as a historian and seer into international affairs. He's a lawyer who defends scumbags in real life, and spewing propaganda for Israel is his hobby. How anyone can take him seriously as a commentatpr on what is good for the U.S. – wrt its interests and people – is a mystery to those of us who care about the U.S. first and last.

As for his laughable assertions, he can't evade this simple fact. If Israel disappeared off the face of the earth tomorrow, nothing bad would happen to the U.S. militarily or economically. It isn't strategically located wrt to commerce, has no resources that we need and is irrelevant to U.S. military power (we are just as formidable an enemy without them). Worse yet, our unconditional support of Israel despite its horrendous actions against 650,000 Arab Muslims living in Palestine between '47-'49 costs us billions and makes us the target of Arab and Muslim hatred around the world.

Why is it I should care what happens to Israel? Why do we think it's our job to protect them? Let her make her own way or disappear – it matters not a whit to me or the U.S as a nation.

    • Ron Carnine

Dear G. your study of the history between Israel and the US is flawed indeed. Israel has been in several wars because of the aggression of her Arab neighbors and has never needed the US to help her. She is a true ally of the American people. She treats her Arab citizens the same as any other Israelis. Something you won't find in the Arab states that surround her. When they aren't killing each other the terror groups stop from time to time to fire rockets into Israel. Israel's response has always been measured. She is the only state in the Middle East that even cares about civilian casualties. That doesn't mean that innocent civilians aren't killed, because Hezbollah and Hamas set up their rocket batteries in civilian area's but Israel, like the US tries to limit civilian casualties. The terrorist groups like to cause civilian deaths and injuries so they can blame Israel for it but they bring on these casualties themselves. The Bible tells us that God "will bless those who bless Abraham, Issac and Jacob." That should be our policy no matter what our President believes.

i am from india and i love israelis … long live jews…..
      love u from india

      • Glennd1

So? I have no problem with Jews. I have a problem with the U.S. protecting Israel from the consequences of its ethnic cleansing in 1948 of 650,000 Arab Muslims from their homes. Perhaps India can guarantee Israel's security…

  • Atlas_Collins

Has Jonathan Pollard been executed yet?

  • JaiHind

You're just stating India cannot be depended on because it does not support US policies on Iran.
India cannot take on US' concerns over any country IT doesn't like,

India and Iran have a relationship that goes back long before US even existed.
US has become accustomed to "Oh its our ally therefore it will toe our line" – that used to work with weaker nations like Pakistan – India isn't like that – and the more US gets around to wrapping its head around that – the easier will the relationship be and grow

  • Luke

I love how Australia isn't even mentioned, yet it has supported America in every major conflict since WW2

  • dfsdlkafj;awboisrf

    Ramana is a loser

  • Shawn Robinson

While I support Israel, it’s pathetic that this author of this article ignores Canada.

Canada is America’s closest military ally, and the only one the US entrusts with defence of the US and command of US forces insides and outside US borders via NORAD and other agreements.
Canada’s also the only US ally whose troops are permitted to operate on US soil during civil emergencies.

    • Joe Robinson

Good point Shawn. This article is propaganda written by a Jewish author. It is obviously very biased.

    • John

Like Joe said, Alan M. Dershowitz, the author of this article, is Jewish. This article is completely false and very biased. Don’t listen to a word in it.

“That’s the trouble with Israel, give them an inch and they take a mile. In 1947 the UN gave them 56% of Palestine now they have 86% and according to Sharon the whole of the US.!!!! It now looks as if they want to take over the whole of the Middle East starting with Iran.” – Just a quote I found somewhere.

    • jwhitehawke

California: 38.2 million. Canada: 35 million. Virginia: 8.4 million. Israel: 8.1 million. (25% are non-Jewish).
Russia pulling their Ambassador from US, attacking Ukraine and moving into Cuba. Shawn: You expect Canada or ANYONE outside the US to help this? The US is on their own thanks to the 47% socialist voting in a Muslim illegal….. TWICE to destroy our constitution and control our liberty.
Our own government is the biggest enemy against the American people. WTFU

  • ravisingh62

    Bahamas, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago?

well America owns those practically and they dont have a large military

Australia , but our Mexican friends to the South are having Big Economic change to come :)

  • Pedro Navaja

What do you mean by the second part of your statement?

  • Andrew

I feel like this article confuses “ally” with “country that will completely sell out to US interests”.

Just because Japan, Brazil and France don’t agree with the US on everything and support everything it does doesn’t mean they are not allies. They are sovereign nations that will pursue their own interests.

    • skydiver-1

Japan, Brazil and France, are very important U.S. Allies. However, of the three, Japan is the stronger U.S. Ally.

  • Mohammed Fahad

Israel, what about Canada, Australia, South Korea?Hell even Pakistan shares as much commitment to democracy as Israel.

    • skydiver-1

South Korea, is leaning towards China. When China, decided to stop importing American poultry products, South Korea jumped on the bandwagon and barred the import of American poultry products. To make matter worse, no U.S. commercial poultry flocks were contaminated by the bird-flu, whereas, the bird flu was Korea wide in South Korea. Our government sat on its ass and allowed the South Koreans to ban American eggs and chicken from our on base commissaries. Korean eggs now being sold at on base at U.S. military installations in South Korea, are know to carry a virus that causes Vatiglio. I know of two individuals who came down with Vatigilo, after eating Korean eggs. Korean chicken now being sold at Popeye’s on U.S.base military facilities, is shameful because the South Korean chicken being sold on U.S. bases in South Korea, is so underfed, all you get is bones. Disgusting! political BS. South Korea, needs to be exposed for its unfair trade practices.

  • Halo9903

I would have thought Australia is America’s most reliable ally. They have helped us in every war since WW2, they even helped us in Vietnam when Canada and Britain refused to help, Australia send almost 1 million soldiers to help us.

  • Bonetopick

“It turns out that other than Europe, Israel may be America’s only remaining reliable ally. And even some European countries, such as France, Sweden and Norway, are in doubt.”

Sweden is neutral and not allied to anyone.

    • skydiver-1

JAPAN, is the stronger, more dedicated, U.S. Ally.

  • skydiver-1

Israel, is by far, our most important ally. Canada, is also a very important ally. However, in Asia, Japan, is our most important ally. I would never count on South Korea, as a true ally. South Korea, is leaning towards China. I would never, sell South Korea the technology involving the F-35 Lightening, or any technology that could be re-sold to North Korea. Upon reunification of the Korea Peninsula, the two Korea will side with China, and try to become a superpower. We need to place emphasis on our relationship with the Japanese, because we’re going to need their support. We’re going to regret wasting money in South Korea.
