America Nears the Demographic Tipping Point

I apologize to America’s young people, whose dashed dreams and dim employment prospects I had laughed at, believing these to be a direct result of their voting for Obama.

On closer examination, it turns out that young voters, aged 18-29, overwhelmingly supported Romney. But only the white ones.

According to Pew Research, 54 percent of white voters under 30 voted for Romney and only 41 percent for Obama. That’s the same percentage Reagan got from the entire white population in 1980. Even the Lena Dunham demographic — white women under 30 — slightly favored Romney.

Reagan got just 43 percent of young voters in 1980 — and that was when whites were 88 percent of the electorate. Only 58 percent of today’s under-30 vote is white and it’s shrinking daily.

What the youth vote shows is not that young people are nitwits who deserve lives of misery and joblessness, as I had previously believed, but that America is hitting the tipping point on our immigration policy.

The youth vote is a snapshot of elections to come if nothing is done to reverse the deluge of unskilled immigrants pouring into the country as a result of Ted Kennedy’s 1965 immigration act. Eighty-five percent of legal immigrants since 1968 have come from the Third World. A majority of them are in need of government assistance.

Whites are 76 percent of the electorate over the age of 30 and only 58 percent of the electorate under 30. Obama won the “youth vote” because it is the knife’s edge of a demographic shift, not because he offered the kids free tuition and contraception (which they don’t need because it’s hard to have sex when you’re living with your parents at 27).

In 1980, Hispanics were only 2 percent of the population, and they tended to be educated, skilled workers who got married, raised their children in two-parent families and sent their kids to college before they, too, got married and had kids. (In that order.)

That profile has nothing to do with recent Hispanic immigrants, who — because of phony “family reunification” rules — are the poorest of the world’s poor.

More than half of all babies born to Hispanic women today are illegitimate. As Heather MacDonald has shown, the birthrate of Hispanic women is twice that of the rest of the population, and their unwed birthrate is one and a half times that of blacks.

That’s a lot of government dependents coming down the pike. No amount of “reaching out” to the Hispanic community, effective “messaging” or Reagan’s “optimism” is going to turn Mexico’s underclass into Republicans.

Any election analysis that doesn’t deal with the implacable fact of America’s changing demographics is bound to be wrong.

Perhaps the reason elections maven Michael Barone was so shockingly off in his election prediction this year was that, in the biggest mistake of his career, Barone has been assuring us for years that most of these Third World immigrants pouring into the country would go the way of Italian immigrants and become Republicans. They’re hardworking! They have family values!

Maybe at first, but not after coming here, having illegitimate children and going on welfare.

Charles Murray recently pointed out that — contrary to stereotype — Hispanics are less likely to be married, less likely to go to church, more supportive of gay marriage and less likely to call themselves “conservative” than other Americans.

Rather than being more hardworking than Americans, Hispanics actually work about the same as others, or, in the case of Hispanic women, less.

It seems otherwise, Murray says, because the only Hispanics we see are the ones who are working — in our homes, neighborhoods and businesses. “That’s the way that almost all Anglos in the political chattering class come in contact with Latinos,” he notes. “Of course they look like model Americans.”

(Black males would apparently like to work more. Nearly 20 percent of black males under 30 voted for Romney, more than three times what McCain got.)

An article by Nate Cohn in the current New Republic argues, as the title puts it: “The GOP Has Problems With White Voters, Too.” As proof, Cohn cites Jefferson County, Colo.; Loudoun County, Va.; Wake County, N.C.; and Somerset County, N.J., all of which went Republican in presidential elections from 1968 through 2004, but which Romney lost in 2012.

Smelling a rat, I checked the demographic shifts in these counties from the 2000 to the 2010 census. In each one, there has been a noticeable influx of Hispanics (and Asians, who also vote Democrat), diminishing “the white vote” that Cohn claims Republicans are losing.

Between the 2000 and 2010 census, for example, the white population of Jefferson County declined from more than 90 percent to less than 80 percent, while the Hispanic population more than doubled, from 6 percent to 14 percent.

In Loudoun County, the Asian population tripled from 5 percent to 15 percent and the Hispanic population doubled from 6 percent to 12 percent. Meanwhile, whites plummeted from 83 percent to 69 percent of the population.

Similarly, Wake County shifted from 74 percent white to 66 percent white in the past decade, while the Hispanic population doubled, from 5 percent to 10 percent, and the black population stayed even at about 20 percent.

In Somerset County, the Hispanic population grew by 63 percent and the Asian population grew by 83 percent since 2000. The number of whites has remained steady, resulting in a population that is now just 62 percent white.

These were the counties chosen by Cohn, not me, to show that Republicans are losing “the white vote.” Except they’re not so white, anymore. With blacks, Asians and Hispanics voting 93 percent, 73 percent and 71 percent for Obama, Republicans have to do more than just win the white vote. They have to run the table.

Romney got a larger percentage of the white vote than Reagan did in 1980. That’s just not enough anymore.

Ironically, Romney was the first Republican presidential candidate in a long time not conspiring with the elites to make America a dumping ground for the world’s welfare cases. Conservatives who denounced Romney as a “RINO” were the ones doing the bidding of the real establishment: business, which wants cheap labor and couldn’t care less if America ceases to be the land of opportunity that everyone wanted to immigrate to in the first place.

Coulter is absolutely right, of course. Demographics matter. Race matters. Reality matters. "Conservatives" who supported the radical racial blank slate ideology (and all the attendent policies of that ideology, ie, massive non-white immigration, political correctness, affirmative action, etc.) have doomed the right — not to mention the country.

Importing a low-IQ, crime-prone, hyper-dysfunctional peasant class under the assumption that such a population is "naturally conservative" is so staggeringly idiotic I don't really know what to say.

Well, they call us the stupid party for a reason. A good reason.

    • Smitty

Being "nice" and apologetic just showed that such smarmy weakness just doesn't work. I hope that a Ryan/Rubio ticket in 2016 might be our only hope, but again, I feel there are too many people "on the dole" whose only stake in the country is that which they can get for free, and no amount of coaxing, cajoling or chest-beating from any Republican candidate will get their votes. When people get so dependent (as they have), they get used to it and don't want to give up their entitlements and handouts. Does anyone in his right mind think those types of dunces will vote Republican? It's done, folks, and their ain't no turnin' back!

      • Mary Sue

I heard Rubio can't be on the ticket because he doesn't qualify as being able to be president should anything happen to Ryan (something about the natural-born laws).

        • Sound&Fury

Not true. Rubio was born here.

  • harrylies

This piece is more suitable for the Klu Klux Klan than any conservative website. And people wonder why Obama won. Just keep insulting people. Are there not just Americans?

    • IMHomo

What exactly is "klan" about it? She simply states the truth regarding the disastrous demographics of the nation. Ted Kennedy, the murderer of Mary Jo Kapechne, is responsible. The nation is going the way of the Third World because of all the Third World denizens coming here and acting like parasites.

    • MikeWood

It's in your name isn't it?

    • kasandra

As a matter of fact, a lot of them are not "just Americans." Many of the subjects of Ms. Coulter's excellent column are not citizens, do not speak English, and do not try to assimilate into the American culture. They're here for the free stuff and, if they do work, many send large portions of their income back to their relatives in their home countries.

    • Smitty

Seems that Harry views anyone who presents any reasoning and who "tells it like it is" belongs to the KKK. People who deserve insults should be insulted….plain and simple. I am "just American," and I deeply resent your equating me to the KKK, merely because I support small, localized government and a government that works within the immigration laws that were set up for a purpose and that worked well until our politicians thought that ignoring those laws would provide them with another voting bloc for which we Taxpayers have to pay….and pay….and pay!

Please tell me that you are not just another liberal who feels that a never- ending expanded government, high taxes, more entitlements that we can no longer afford, insidious regulations and an anti-business bias are good for the country.

    • Seek

There is nothing “racist” about this piece. It is simply a sensible reading of the nation’s electoral tea leaves. Nonwhites, as a matter of interest, vote Democrat — indeed, overwhelmingly Democrat. And if they collectively become a majority in this country, which the Census Bureau has projected will happen by the year 2042, it’s game over. Not just for the Republican Party, but for the nation.

Good for Ann. She has the makings of race realist. She is transcending the deracinated banalities of the Tea Party types. Maybe if the GOP would reach out to the white vote and forget about trying to woo the black vote (we’ve been doing that since Nixon, to no avail), we might get somewhere.

THIS PIECE IS SPOT ON. YOU CAN'T ARGUE WITH STATISTICS. THERE ARE WHITE AMERICANS BUT THEY ARE TOO SCARED TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE IMMIGRATION DISASTER WHICH IS CHANGING THIS COUNTRY TO THE WORST. WHEN YOU HAVE THE KIND OF IMMIGRANT TODAY WHO AS SOON AS THEY ARRIVE LEGALLY OR ILLEGALLY, THEIR FIRST STOP IS HUMAN SERVICES AND THE WELFARE OFFICE, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT. I KNOW THIS IS WHAT IS HAPPENING FOR SURE. WHERE I LIVE IN THE WASHINGTON SUBURB, EVERY HISPANIC IMMIGRANT, MOSTLY ILLEGAL HAVE AT LEAST 3 KIDS, MOSTLY FROM DIFFERENT FATHERS AND THEY ARE ALL ON WELFARE. THE MONEY THEY GET IS SENT TO THEIR COUNTRY TO BUILD THEMSELVES HOMES IN THE COUNTRYSIDE AND THEY LIVE HERE BUNCHED IN APARTMENTS WHERE IT IS NOT UNUSUAL TO FIND 6 TO 8 PEOPLE LIVING IN THE SAME PLACE, PAYING 50 TO 75 PER MONTH EACH. IT'S FREE MONEY AND NO MORALS TO BE TAUGHT TO THEIR KIDS. THEIR SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENT IS TESTIMONY TO THAT.

Ah, but apparently Fearless Leader Bush told us a decade ago that "family values don't stop at the Rio Grande." Let me respond to that in Clintonspeak: "Define family."

Harries must be told that his criticism seems better directed at both the Southern Poverty Law Center and Al Sharpton’s National Action Network race shakedown racket than against “Cassandra” Coulter.

Regarding Mrs. Coulter’s dire warnings and demographic data dump, who cares? Like Lawwrence Audtrr has been saying as of late, “Its their country now”. Talking about the dismantling of America is spitting into the wind. Whites got just what they’ve wanted and needed to assuage the guilt they wanted to feel in order to make up for slavery and racism that most of us are not and never have been either responsible for, or guilty of.

RIP Ted Kennedy. To paraphrase Shakespeare, the evil you did (1965 treaspn bill vis a vis immigration) far outlived you.

    • kasandra

I agree with much of what you say but I do take issue with the statement "Whites got just what they've wanted…." If you replace "whites" with "the left" I'd be more comfortable with it. The left's mantra for decades has been that the U.S. is too powerful, too rich, too oppressive, too domineering in world affairs, too strong militarily, and too white. It's their policy to make us weak, poor, polyglot, and inconsequential. They've got what they wanted including a President who agrees with, no – embraces – their critique.

    • Questions

Actually, that 1965 immigration expansion legislation was co-sponsored by Sen. Phil Hart, D-Mich. ("the conscience of the Senate") and Rep. Emanuel Celler, D-N.Y. Ted Kennedy's role was limited to that of floor manager, and then only as a tribute to his late brother JFK, who by the way advocated this very sort of legislation.

      • JakeTobias

Thanks for the extra info. So if Ted got more credit than he deserved, it would be because he was a credit hog. Credit hogging and blame throwing go hand in hand.

Yaaa, now Detroit is the model for the country.

I kinda agree with Anne, but how do you explain 2010? The Tea Party stood firm and got their message out and were unafraid and unapologetic for their beliefs. Romney didnt do that. Republicans dont do that. They tread softly like they are walking on broken glass. Reagan wasnt that way. He told it the way it was all the while Repubs tried to get him to shut up and coopt him. Well they are doing the same thing with the Tea Party.

Remember, Reagan won over democrats, because he made sense. Repubs dont make sense anymore, because they are in it for themselve.

No Obama on the ticket prevents the Presidential election from turning into a MTV event and the big government voters stay at home.

Drug addiction is more of an issue than ideology. It's possible to promote conservative values, but they will naturally be apathetic and insecurely vote out of self validation.

Every day something new to get depressed about….all I know is I don't trust any culture that can't produce a decent heavy metal band and I've yet to hear one from Mexico!

  • xios

Interesting perspective. I drive through Loudoun County, VA a couple of times a week and I noticed a lot of Obama signs along the primary roads and mostly Romney signs on the back roads and then it hit me- houses along primary roads tend to be inhabited by renters as there is traffic noise and less privacy, and renters in this largely rural County tend to be "newcomers". Rents range from $800 to $2200/mo for middle class housing so this is affordable in comparison to other DC area Counties.

  • Anthony

I also think those who imagine the solution to America being essentially stripped bare like a stolen car with the net end result the de- Europeanization, and hence, destruction of itself ” illegal immigration” reform a self imposed straight jacket doing nothing to stop the demographic shift.

People like Ms. Coulter must be honest. An immigration moritorium is the last hope to prevent third world America from full manifestation.

But to say we must stop both legal and illegal immigration with certain exceptions is beyond their willingness to engage in self preservation mostly out of a fear of being racist and accused of not wanting to give something to people who have no right nor claim to anything we have that doesn’t belong to them in the first place.

I was surprised that massive Muslim immigration to America was not mentioned.

British Freedom: How Immigration and Multiculturalism Destroyed Detroit
… hundreds of thousands today exist on federal welfare, free housing, and food stamps! With Aid to Dependent Children, minority women birthed eight to 10, and in one case, one woman birthed 24 children…

Today, you hear Muslim calls to worship over the city like a new American Baghdad with hundreds of Islamic mosques in Michigan, paid for by Saudi Arabian oil money..

…legal and illegal immigrants converged on the city, so much so, that Muslims number over 300,000. Mexicans number 400,000 throughout Michigan…

Immigration will keep pouring more and more uneducated third world immigrants from the Middle East into Detroit, thus creating a beachhead for Islamic hegemony in America.

As their numbers grow, so will their power to enact their barbaric Sharia Law that negates republican forms of government…

Liberals now outnumber non-liberals in our fully enfranchised democracy. What our non-liberal Founding Fathers bequeathed unto us, their posterity, a capitalist Republic, has now been transmogrified into a socialist democracy via our said, fully enfranchised democracy.

America and Old Glory, like the old grey mule, ain`t what she used to be, and has been put out to pasture.

There is but one hope remaining, secession. Secession offers liberty from the tyranny of the immature, socialists and their ideology, which itself offers only death to nation-state Republics and life to the new world, one world order of globalism, socialism and democracy. This possible future for all, that includes our posterity, offers only tyranny, poverty and misery.

Secession offers another chance at nation-state Republics and the free enterprise capitalist’s ideology. This ideology offers liberty, wealth and happiness.

In spirit, the Union is dead, may secession bring a new order, which like the Phoenix will rise up out of its own ashes of death and realize a new birth of life for the people who wish to live in harmony with their nature.

Secession my friends. Think about it. Thank you.

I'd like to know, whom exactly does Ms. Coulter mean under the general term "Asian voters"? During my visits to the USA I've often seen Chinese, Hindu, Korean, Thai Americans and my impression (I may be wrong of course) was that all of them belonged to the most hard-working peoples I had ever met in industry, agriculture, business. They never were idle, never protesting anything – not because they were too meek, I think, but because they were just too busy with their working. Why should they suddenly vote for Obama? It seems to me that your leaders like Cain, West, Palin, Romney are much more close to their own honest way of life! But maybe the author just wished to find some politcorrect term for Muslims? Those I had never seen working anywhere except halal shops, so they really could make a firm voting base for any foodstamping president, indeed. But then, again: why Asian? At least a half of these halal toilers were from the Northern Africa… Rostislav, Saint-Petersburg, Russia.

Ann Coulter is on to something about Latinos. But actually, she understates the situation. The truth is that most of what we "know" about Latino culture is false. Here's a list and it's off the top of my head so it's not exhaustive:

Latinos have wonderful family values. False. Latino family values are actually quite lacking and fraught with illegitimacy, divorce and/or bigamy, and rampant child abuse and neglect.

Latinos have a great work ethic. False. Under the "right" circumstances (ususally involving some kind of external pressure since they tend to have externalized ego functions), Latinos can be observed to work hard. But they are far, very far, from valuing work in and of itself as a positive good. They actually view our traditional attitudes toward work with contempt.

Latinos are naturally conservative. As Ann so able pointed out they are not but she underates the case. Culturally, Latin America, from the Rio Grand to the tip of Chile, from the ruling classes to the most impoverished, is Marxist.

    • Questions

Latino culture is very different from our own. Even their "conservatism" is conservative is their own context. They have a different sense of history and it's not friendly to our own. A "conservative" Mexican is still someone who thinks that Americans "stole" his land at the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo of 1848.

      • Lost_Lenore

I'm not sure what you mean by their conservatism. Perhaps you could describe what you do mean?? But what I'm saying is that by our standards, they are not natural conservatives, and it is our standards that people have in mind when they make such statements about Latinos.

I understand that not only do they consider that we stole their land but that they believe their problems are due to this fact. I don't think the facts bear this out. We compensated them handsomely for the land which they had up to that point, gotten little use from. They only started clamouring to live on the north side of the Rio Grand after we had made something of the desert Southwest.

But for me this story that they tell themselves about the Southwest just demonstrates other issues with Latino culture that I have observed first hand and repeatedly: the difficulties with telling upleasant truths, whether to oneself or to another; and the difficulty with taking personal responsibility for one's choices, particularly when there is an easy scapegoat available.

I agree that Islamic immigration is the most dangerous to our nation. It doesn’t matter if they are “peasants,” unskilled workers or wealthy families. The key is whether or not they are committed to Jihad and the rest of the radical Islamic agenda. When I first moved to Detroit in the 70s, I lived next door to an Arab family who were Muslim. I am Jewish and I told them I was. They brought me freshly baked bread every week and refused to accept any money. When I moved from my flat in Southwest Detroit to a small apartment in what became to be called the New Center Area, I gave my generous and hardworking neighbors all my appliances and most of my furniture as a gesture of friendship. At that time most of the Arabs came to Detroit to work in the auto factories and who they voted for is irrelevant. Most workers, of whatever nationality voted for those who were friendly to unions and the rights of workers to have representation.

Today we have a different situation. Saudi Arabia and wealthy Arab fundamentalists have changed the minds of the Arab community which is not mostly in Detroit, but in a suburb called Dearborn. They are also in parts of Detroit and are moving to other Detroit suburbs as well. The god many of them worship today is a god who hates and this is because of the influence of Saudi Arabia and wealthy Arabs who secretly and sometimes openly support Hamas and other terrorist organizations. They have convinced many of the Muslim youth that the U.S. is evil and that American women are all whores who should be forced to adhere to Sharia law (which means they would be stoned to death if they did not submit to Islam )and that homosexuality should be criminalized and punished by execution under Sharia law as well. But as their religion teaches them to do, they lie about their intentions in many cases and enter this country because they want to destroy the American way of life.

The Republican Party to a large degree is no different than Democrats because they want the “Arab vote.” Many Republicans along with their Democratic Party counterparts tell the American people that Islam is a religion of peace. And that simply is not true even though many Muslims believe that it is and consider themselves devout in their faith. We should allow all people including non citizens to worship as they please but we should pass laws to stop Saudi Arabia or any other country from funding Mosques or schools in our country. We should insist that all schools public and private have a class on Democracy, the rule of law (American law not Sharia law) and basic facts about our nation that make it clear that our country is what it is because we are a democracy and people who wanted to end the evils of Slavery and segregation and terror by the KKK were allowed to do so. We should teach the history of how voting rights have been expanded since the founding of our Republic. We should teach how the South started a Civil War in order to preserve and expand slavery a cruel and inhumane institution. We should insist that children are taught how Ike, a Republican President, sent armed federal troops into Little Rock with loaded weapons and forced the white people of that State to obey the ruling of our highest court or they would be shot down. They should be told that in a democracy one is not allowed to riot and threaten people’s lives because one don’t believe our highest court has the authority to interpret the Constitution and that all their decisions are binding in all parts of the country unless change by a process set out in our Constitution or unless at a later date the Court makes a different ruling that becomes the new law of the land. Public and private school children should be taught how our nation has evolved into a much greater nation because of a civil war that many died in to preserve our nation and because of people who stood up for what they believed like the Abolitionists and those women and men who fought peacefully for a woman’s right to vote . They should be taught that our system of government is superior to absolute monarchies, communist dictatorships such as Cuba, and fascist regimes as well governments that allow ethnic cleansing such as Sudan and Syria and allow suppression of peaceful religious minorities or free thinkers or impose the barbaric Sharia law.

Latinos do not come here to destroy our country. If one doesn’t like how some Latinos get welfare then they need to demand that the system be changed and work for that change now and not attack those who receive welfare legally. People like that are not confined to certain minorities. White people receive welfare benefits and food stamps too. It is not in the interests of our country to attack unwed mothers because they are Latino. Women have always had children out of wedlock The numbers are increasing. We should have the schools teach the economic advantages of being married. Children should be told that highly educated people marry in very large numbers and partly because of that they have more money to spend on the things they enjoy doing and they can travel and see the world and stay in expensive hotels and eat the best and most expensive food. They can pursue and achieve a greater degree of happiness.

Immigration laws must be changed but not as part of an organized attempt to smear the reputation of the many people who have come here to work hard and see their children live better lives than they will. Immigrants are what make this country great. Take the example of the great Celia Cruz who stood up against Castro and became world famous for her music. And vowed never to return to live in Cuba as long as it remained communist. She was loved by millions around the world and honored in this country for her great contribution to our culture and as true freedom fighter. The “Queen of Salsa” was as American as anyone wring on this site and more talented than most. She was a great American woman and a great Cuban woman.

      • jvanstyn

Because of the report that we, as required by law have to place on the outside door of the polling place at the end of the voting day, has those numbers. You can also go to the Hamilton County Board of Elections and get a full report of the voting results of every precinct in Hamilton (the county that Cincinnati and surrounding communities reside) County and every one of the 3077 counties that there are in the US for that matter. This 780/1 voting ratio in Lincoln Heights isn’t knowledge that only poll workers are privy to.

I kept wondering why Dearborn was turning into an islamic sh__hole right in front of everybody. Then I looked at a map. It's like RIGHT NEXT to Detroit.

    That explains EVERYTHING!

I had to laugh (cynically) at some guy on Staten Island complaining that Obama came in for a photo op and they haven't been helped by any government agency since that day to this and Obama is off to Hawaii for a three week holiday in the sun while they freeze. A ferry ride away from New York, there is still no power or rebuilding going on. People are awake all hours guarding their generators because they are being stolen. The guy looked puzzled and hurt- but what did they expect from an uncaring con artist who campaigns instead of governing wisely? Expect worse from BO now he is re-elected. Seeing the north east states voted overwhelmingly for Obama it is difficult to find much sympathy for these rubes. I just want to shake some sense into these types- no government coffer is a magic pudding that regenerates automatically. What they seem unable to grasp is that eventually the money runs out as contributing members of society get overtaken by dependents sucking off the public purse.

Well Ann tells the truth I lived in So Calif and a lot of hispanics still live in the same barrios that they did 30 years ago. Republicans think its ok to criticized blacks and asians but not hispanics, since Bush and Norquist pander for their votes. There are some that moved up but supporting more low skilled hispanics to be maids at Disneyland Hotels not going to warm them to the Republican Party. The Washington Times did an interesting piece that Mexico now has advanced in manufactoring work that it now can do more engineering and some of their car companies pay 6.00 hr. Why do some Republicans want hispanics to immirgate to expensive Los Angeles fo 8.00 to 12.00 where they can't afford to live without several people or government help. Why not support the further development of Mexico.

Oh, I forgot to say- I was yelling at the TV when this guy was on screen complaining about Obama and Christie's inaction since the election- 'If you voted for a caring motivated guy who knows how to get things done- Romney- you wouldn't be in this situation you dummy'!!!

I disagree with Ms. Coulter on this one. Not every Third Worlder is like what she says they are. They're a lot like the European immigrants of old. Not every African,Latin American,or Asian is like that. Many of them do come for a new life. Unfortunately, some of them come for the free stuff, not for the chance to improve their lives.

Sounds like she still has a crush on Mitt Romney–poor dear.

Well, if it's racist to say that certain races are genetically inferior, then I guess Ann Coulter is a racist.

    • Ghostwriter

No,Loyal Achates. What Ann Coulter said was stupid. Your comment that there are some races that are genetically inferior, that's racist.

      • Loyal Achates

        Psst….sarcasm….Ann Coulter is obviously racist.

Ann Coulter is coming to realize what we vdare.com types have recognized for years: Race and ethnicity, and not simply "values," really do matter — and that our leaders' (in both major parties) willful blindness on this score may wind up pushing the nation off the ultimate "cliff." Let's hope she produces more articles like these.
