Obama’s Signature Move: Unsealing Private Records

Pages: 1 2

Mitt Romney presents one enormous problem for Barack Obama’s campaign: No divorce records. That’s why the media are so hot to get their hands on Romney’s tax records for the past 25 years. They need something to “pick through, distort and lie about” — as the Republican candidate says.

Obama’s usual campaign method, used in 100 percent of his races, has been to pry into the private records of his opponents.

Democrats aren’t going to find any personal dirt on the clean-cut Mormon, so they need complicated tax filings going back decades in order to create the illusion of scandal out of boring financial records.

Romney has already released his 2010 tax return and is about to release his 2011 return. After all the huffing and puffing by the media demanding those returns, the follow-up story vanished remarkably quickly when the only thing the return showed was that Romney pays millions of dollars in taxes and gives a lot of money to charity.

Let’s take a romp down memory lane and review the typical Obama campaign strategy. Obama became a U.S. senator only by virtue of David Axelrod’s former employer, the Chicago Tribune, ripping open the sealed divorce records of Obama’s two principal opponents.

One month before the 2004 Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate, Obama was down in the polls, about to lose to Blair Hull, a multimillionaire securities trader. But then the Chicago Tribune leaked the claim that Hull’s second ex-wife, Brenda Sexton, had sought an order of protection against him during their 1998 divorce proceedings.

Those records were under seal, but as The New York Times noted: “The Tribune reporter who wrote the original piece later acknowledged in print that the Obama camp had ‘worked aggressively behind the scenes’ to push the story.” Many people said Axelrod had “an even more significant role — that he leaked the initial story.”

Both Hull and his ex-wife opposed releasing their sealed divorce records, but they finally relented in response to the media’s hysteria — 18 days before the primary. Hull was forced to spend four minutes of a debate detailing the abuse allegation in his divorce papers, explaining that his ex-wife “kicked me in the leg and I hit her shin to try to get her to not continue to kick me.”

After having held a substantial lead just a month before the primary, Hull’s campaign collapsed with the chatter about his divorce. Obama sailed to the front of the pack and won the primary. Hull finished third with 10 percent of the vote.

As luck would have it, Obama’s opponent in the general election had also been divorced! Jack Ryan was tall, handsome, Catholic — and shared a name with one of Harrison Ford’s most popular onscreen characters! He went to Dartmouth, Harvard Law and Harvard Business School, made hundreds of millions of dollars as a partner at Goldman Sachs, and then, in his early 40s, left investment banking to teach at an inner city school on the South Side of Chicago.

Ryan would have walloped Obama in the Senate race. But at the request of — again — the Chicago Tribune, California Judge Robert Schnider unsealed the custody papers in Ryan’s divorce five years earlier from Hollywood starlet Jeri Lynn Ryan, the bombshell Borg on “Star Trek: Voyager.”

I think a touch of the old, you show me yours and I'll show you mine is in order.

Obama's lap dog msm ridiculed anyone who thought, hey we've elected the invisible man, as if wanting to know the background of the most powerful person on earth was somehow beneath contempt.

Inject a little light racist accusation into the mix and voilla, our man of mystery suddenly becomes bullet proof.

These Democrat accusations are the perfect boomerang which a previously RINO GOP, in it's McCainesque delusion has completely ignored.

Will they now take up the batton?

    • oldtimer

Agree…. When 0 shows his records than he can ask R to show his, and not until.

  • imataxpayer

Yes, all of Obama's records made public is the request…and we've been asking for over 4 years.

    • mlcblog

Papers? What papers? All anybody needs to know about Chief O'bwana is in plain view for any with eyes to see.

  • ★FALCON★

Thinking Obama will show his records is foolish. He's not going to show that he was registered as a foreign student, nor a thesis on radical communism. He's not going to show that he is not an NBC.

Obama voters are too stupid to know that Obama himself is not eligible for the office, nor do they care. This is simply a way to beat Romney over the head while pretending Obama is above the fray.

    Typical communist.

Obama was born with dual citizenship. He is not a natural born citizen. Oops.

  • DogWithoutSlippers

The Office of The Presidency is smeared and sleazed again! Anyone with half a brain can see that Obama is concealing pertinent information which would reveal his real past and show what kind of man he really is!

  • watsa46

Perhaps Axelrod will use a Presidential executive order to open the Romney IRS file!

Remember how they treated Joe the Plumber?
They even dug out his old library records and found an overdue book.

Obama is as low as they come. But he is from Chicago, so what can you expect?

  • Bamaguje

Obama can't win a fair fight based on issues, so he has to play dirty.

  • Western Sspirit

Not only is Obama's personal papers necessary and Romney's tax returns are not, but the way Obama uses his influence is unnerving.

Especially since he has the proof of citizenship, in order to vote, being decided by a mere judge. And judges have been overstepping their authority to change the country to the liking of progressives for decades.

And why would he choose a judge he wasn't sure about who would help him steal the election? Not likely. Now that's scary.

Way back in USSR, I was shadowed by a KGB stooge, who masqueraded as a friend. Funny but his last name was Axelrod and he even looked alike the Chicago version.

David would definitely make a grade in USSR secret police, since he has all the attributes they were looking for.

  • fiddler

These people cry "decorum" when they are rightly accused of and caught blatantly lying. The time for WORDS is over. You can't win a fair fight against these people when in their heart they espouse Rules for Radicals whose author dedicated his the written piece to lucifer. Say what you will but this has a sinister air about it. How LONG will Americans be duped by this? How long will they aquiece to blatant fraud, hypocricy and deceit? If, God forbid this man is "re-elected", which of us will submit to whatever executive orders he foists on us next? How can this have a good outcome? Does honesty and full disclosure matter? Does ANYTHING matter?

    • Jacobite

How many Americans paid the Stamp Tax? How many Americans tolerated The Intolerable Acts? How many Americans obeyed King George III and his colonial officials? And Chief O'bwana has done things far worse than anything that ever came from London.

  • Hokma

    Thank goodness for Coulter.

I had been posting this wherever I could for a few years now and I am grateful that you did the same to make it a prominent fact.

Axelgrease and Obama are both deplorable people and Axelgrease is the most corrupt political figure today. Why is a political consultant like Axelgrease allowed into national security breifings.

If Anne digs further I will bet that the source and/or reason for those Obama natinal security leaks is Axelgrease.

    • mlcblog

Axel reminds me of the very cold Berkeley liberals, no! communist organizers, that I used to see in the Bay Area and beyond while we were organizing "peace" marches. I am not sure that warm blood runs in their veins. Cold and calculating to a fault. No semblance of compassion or concern for a fellow man (person, as in mankind!) or their plight, ever. Those soft, feeling issues were totally ignored, such as how will this affect the man's family, his children? do we really want to do that? for the sake of the higher cause, that of spreading the commie ideal.

    Save a whale.
Harpoon a false prophet from the Tribune, the Times or the Post.
    That's better than they deserve.

I can't wait for the Dems "October surprise." Will we learn that Romney once saw an R rated movie? $1.75 in unpaid library fines? Littering? This could go viral a la Chuck Norris Facts, except it would be called Mitt Romney Crimes. Better get started on my next blog.

    • Kufar Dawg

Maybe they'll uncover Romney's…oops, I don't want to give them any ideas.

    O despises our traditions fine
    And our constitution every line.
    Just the other day
    I heard someone say,
    "He's beyond contempt!"–not mine.–the Book of Obamaricks

  • Jim_C

Yes, it's almost like asking for a birth certificate, not believing it when it's released, and then making clownish claims that it's not valid, with absolutely no proof, and continuing to ask for it!

Romney thinks multimillionaires pay too much in taxes. As a friend in finance once told me: "Taxes are for suckers."

Could it be Romney doesn't pay any, himself? Gosh–what would that do to his campaign?

No matter. Newt Gingrich already provided much of the red meat against ol' Mitt.

Hey, Obama didn't invent this game. This game is why good people simply don't run for office. And the populace: talk about gullible–would you believe there are people out there so mentally deficient, so devoid of fundamental reasoning skills that they actually believe Obama is a Muslim? I mean, there's people who will fall for anything….

    • Kufar Dawg

Why did Obama refer to his "muslim faith" on a televised interview? It's not the kind of slip of the tongue I've ever heard before. His bowing to Saudi despots kinda might make it seem his muslim as well and then there's the fact he was registered in his Indonesian school as muslim. Then there's his speech about standing with muslims as if they're victims while they're busily slaughtering, persecuting, raping and kidnapping people of other faiths all over the world, right now, in the 21st century. Take your supercilious condescension and shove it where the sun don't shine.

      • Jim_C

It's not supercilious condescension–it's just condescension.

    • Maxie

"I mean, there's people who will fall for anything…. "

      You're certainly proof of that.

Why Romney doesn't ask about 0bamas passport when he traveled when he was a young man in this country, about why he gave up his licience to practice law and a hundred more is beyond me.
