As for Repubs, Graham has already announced that he's got serious problems with Hagel. Dems also have issues w/ him. Eliot Engel, a ranking Dem said that he should not be confirmed. Now Engel doesn't get to vote cuz he's a representative but his views carry weight. It's also interesting that many Dems are keeping silent on the issue. You'd think there would be a chorus of support given the President's position but there's dead silence, which means that they're not enthusiastic. O made a big mistake on this one. He wanted to screw Israel and instead, he's the one with egg on his face.

It only takes one moderate bomb detonated in the right place to bring America down to their level and I, for one, do not care to allow that to happen (even though, a lot of what has transpired in the past might have justified the wrath of God being aimed at America). So allowing a known sympathizer for some of the most dangerous enemies of this country to be appointed to the position of Secretary of Defense is incomprehensible. What many do not understand is that even if all the Democraps vote for him in the committee hearings, it requires at least one vote from the minority party (Repubs in this case) to vote yes for the nomination to get to the Senate Floor. We must keep the pressure on to block this nomination. A united Republican group in the committee hearings are powerful enough to do it. However, one Lindsay Graham (usually the one who caves first) and we are dead and he is S of D. Same goes for John Kerry. He needs to be S of State about as much as we need wolves guarding the sheep.

Those you mention above are obviously very good people, whom I respect and admire.(None are anti-semitic) However, my comments are not as far-fetched as some on this site think. Lincoln, Nebraska is the HQ of a neo-Nazi group, whose members include Gerhard Lauck and Randal Krager. Larry Trapp, an ex-World War 2 Nazi, made his home in Nebraska, and this is documented in a book, "Hate Crimes: Causes, controls, and Controversies," by Phyllis Gerstenfeld.(2010) Also, it has recently come to light that U.S. intelligence officials made America a "safe haven," for ex-Nazis fleeing Germany right after WW2. Some of them settled in Nebraska.

"Israel is a sovereign nation, separate from the sovereign nation of the USA. This is not news to anyone, anywhere. "

But not all of us operate under that assumption. Hint: "X is an 'existential threat' to Israel" is not a conclusive argument that we can or should devote our resources to eradicating X. Israel is one of many foreign countries. Sometimes our interests align, and sometimes they don't.

"That's quite easy. It is clearly urgent for the USA to support Israel in the defensive war against Islamic imperialism."

Islamic Imperialism? Not sure if you're being ironic here. The combined annual GDP of 57 Muslim countries is $2 trillion. 800 million of the world's 1.4 billion Muslims are functionally illiterate. The Islamic world is hopelessly backward, splintered and lacks the requisite wealth and human capital to pose an economic or military threat to the US or its allies. More interestingly, the trend is downward; the Islam's share of world GDP is declining.

If you're really this determined to be concerned, at least understand the threat. Perhaps the 9 million Muslims in France and Germany? Or the 3 million Muslims in living in the UK? If you really want to address the threat, direct a little of the warm and fuzzy feeling you have for AIPAC and Likud toward Geert Wilders, who is trying, at great risk of personal harm, to address the demographic trends that threaten to pull Europe into a second Dark Age.

I fail to see anything objective or factual in the Bush Era approach of "Islam is a religion of peace, hijacked by a radical few," combined with the idolatry of liberal democracy and free markets in the absence of historical and cultural prerequisites, reflexive support for Israel, and an over reliance on military power to accomplish political ends. It seems that inconvenient facts on the ground in Afghanistan, Egypt and Pakistan have invalidated The Chimp. Of course, with all this, we get the added bonus of having given Muslims living in Europe a convenient bete noir on whom to focus, and a determination to repay our kindness in their countries of origin.

Islamic Imperialism. Brilliant. It's 1938 and Munich all over again. You're quite the intellectual.

"I presented one simple and objective fact which you failed to refute: Israel is one of many countries which isn't the US."

Correct. You presented one objective fact not in dispute and not salient to any discussions I see. You seem to think you've made a point that matters.

Israel is a sovereign nation, separate from the sovereign nation of the USA. This is not news to anyone, anywhere.

"...as a purely practical matter, how is it that you justify your preoccupation with one of many foreign countries that, again, factually and objectively speaking, isn't the US?"

That's quite easy. It is clearly urgent for the USA to support Israel in the defensive war against Islamic imperialism. Where have you been? Lapping up leftist lies without any concern about whether they have any evidence at all? Not when you are motivated by hate and contempt.

"Not the USA" does not equate with having no critical interests to the USA. What's wrong with you that you make such a basic statement like, "It's not the USA" and then conflate that with somehow being proof that it's not in the interest of the USA to be involved? I've heard from plenty of delusional isolationists before who don't argue very coherently, but yours is without question the one argument I've heard reduced to that ultimate point of absurdity.

"It's not me, it can't be in my interest to care."

How old are you? The world is a lot more complicated than you've acknowledged and if you want to be taken seriously, get up to speed on salient objective facts. They matter most.

Wait, don't tell me your a disciple of Zinn? I guess if you swallow all of the revisionist lies, you might then think it's rational to follow 0'Bama's advice. Ever notice how enthusiastic the totalitarian regimes are around the world at having that loser in the Whitehouse? Didn't that make you curious at all? Oh yes, the ONLY thing that is in the interest of the USA is to stop being the world's only source of evil.

You're totally indoctrinated or ignorant to the point of me wondering why you bothered here.

"Or, just maybe, a certain stripe of Mohammedan would prefer that we get back into the business of democratizing the Middle East,"

If you find one, they sure won't be doing anything to support 0'Bama's Islamic imperialism roll-outs.

"There must be another secular tyrant or two in need of comeuppance."

No, not really, unless you count 0'Bama as secular, which is a dubious claim, but I see your point.

"As a Libertarian, Obama's brand of poison seems the least bad of the two viable options."

Then you are not a very coherent "libertarian" because 0'Bama is pushing totalitarian religious and socialist tyranny.

"Believe it or not, there is not a lot of enthusiasm across the electorate for elective war and military budgets at 4% of GDP. Enjoy your echo chamber, and I am sure that you will start to win elections again. You know, real soon."

You're a pitiful joke for a supposed libertarian. I'd say it's far more likely you're a lying troll. Spreading lies is only considered morally good by Islamic imperialists and communists. Enjoy the delusions while they last. You can't take them with you. It won't end well for you unless you wake up.

Or, just maybe, a certain stripe of Mohammedan would prefer that we get back into the business of democratizing the Middle East, and maybe dissipate and overextend ourselves a little more. There must be another secular tyrant or two in need of comeuppance. I know that I found Bush's 2004 Inaugural Address convincing. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

As a Libertarian, Obama's brand of poison seems the least bad of the two viable options. In the meantime, don't change a thing. Keep doing what you're doing and saying what you are saying. Believe it or not, there is not a lot of enthusiasm across the electorate for elective war and military budgets at 4% of GDP. Enjoy your echo chamber, and I am sure that you will start to win elections again. You know, real soon.

A little clarity here, guys. At last check, Israel was, you know, one of many countries that aren't the US. I wonder if Hegel is reflexively anti-Belgium, or maybe anti-Argentina. Someone had better do some digging and find out where Messrs Hegel and Walt stand on all these other countries that are, you know, not the US?
