The French Connection – To Anti-Semitism

Ari Lieberman is an attorney and former prosecutor.

When it comes to the Jews, the French have a long, checkered history of treachery. French anti-Semitism is well known and deeply embedded in French culture. It therefore comes as no surprise that France will likely be the first major Western power to recognize Palestinian statehood, according to a statement released by the French Foreign Ministry.

No doubt, the continued Arab migration to France and the influence Muslims wield in that spineless country played a role in shaping France’s disastrous foreign policy decision. Yet the French decision is consistent with their perfidious past and it is likely that they would have embarked on the same trajectory with or without indigenous Muslim influence.

The French prefer to think of themselves as an enlightened people but the sad fact is that French cultural anti-Semitism is among the most insidious and embedded of all of Europe. Assimilated or not, Jews have always been the preferred target of the French cultural elite and French history is peppered with such examples.

Consider the infamous case of Alfred Dreyfus, a captain in the French artillery corps and fully assimilated Jew, falsely accused by the French military establishment of passing military secrets to the Germans. Dreyfus was arrested and charged with treason by French authorities in 1894. He was found guilty by a French kangaroo court and spent the next four years of his life on Devil’s Island. Despite overwhelming and incontrovertible evidence of his innocence, French authorities, infected with anti-Semitism from the top down, refused to budge. It was not until 1906 that a French military commission fully exonerated Dreyfus.

It is no secret that among the Western nations occupied by the Nazis during World War II, the French were the most willing collaborators going well beyond what was requested of them by their Nazi masters. It was not until 1995 that the French acknowledged their dastardly role in their systematic efforts to exterminate French Jewry. The stench of French collaboration and the role they played in the murder of their own citizens, simply because they were of Jewish decent, will remain a permanent stain on France.

In 1967, when Israel was under existential threat from her Islamic neighbors, French President Charles de Gaulle initiated an arms embargo on Israel and refused to deliver 50 Mirage Vs, which had already been paid for by Israel. Adding insult to injury, the French sold the aircraft to Qaddafi’s Libya, a sworn enemy of the Jewish State.

Iraq under the murderous Saddam Hussein maintained close relations with France. Indeed, France among all the Western powers, stood out as Iraq’s closest ally. French Prime Minister Jacques Chirac even referred to Hussein – the man who threatened to “burn half of Israel” and who provided cash for the families of homicide bombers – as his “personal friend.” France was also instrumental in providing Hussein with a nuclear reactor despite justifiable fears that such a reactor would be used by Hussein to produce WMDs.

France has a long history of cozying up to anti-Western characters. She provided safe haven to Ayatollah Khomeini and embraced arch terrorist Yasser Arafat as well as Syria’s former President and serial killer Hafez al-Assad.

As recent as this year, France’s consul general in Jerusalem engaged in historical revisionism by issuing an asinine statement that attempted to sever the historical Jewish nexus with the Land of Israel. In a speech on archeology in Israel, Consul General Frederic Desagneaux made repeated references to “Palestine’ and “Palestinian archeology” without once referencing Israel or Jews, as if the history of that region began and ended with so-called Palestinian Arabs.

The French now come full circle with their recently announced intention to recognize Palestinian statehood. The French ambassador to London once referred to Israel as “that shitty little country.” Judging by France’s collaborationist past and its associations with less than reputable characters, the ambassador’s pejoratives accurately describe France to a T.

Well France is full of leftists, so I guess this really isn't a surprise.

    • Questions

Anti-Semitism of the Right has a long and ignoble tradition in France (e.g., Maurras, DeMaistre, Celine). You can't simply retroactively redefine everything unlikeable about the world as "Leftist."

  • objectivefactsmatter

Pathetic. Eurabia is centered in France.

    • vladdi

That's exactly what Bat Ye'or's entire book ("Eurabia") demonstrates!

  • http://frontpage richard sherman

    France is spelled VICHY….

    • Rita

      VICHYstan, perhaps…

Shame on France – but also on Australia who cowardly "abstained" – under pressure from the Greens and Labor Government. The Greens, who hold the balance of power here are lead by post menopausal Jewhaters, while the gutless Labor members throw decency to the woolfs just to get votes, even though we officially have only 2 % of Muslims in the country. (Rapidly increasing via their high birthrate, their "conversion" of old crones and young thugs to Islam and the systematic invasion by hoardes of illegal arab/muslim arrivals on our unguarded shores.).

Why the french Jews aren't fleeing for their lives is a mystery. Some, of course, are and are relocating mostly in Israel. france has sold out (no surprise) to islam and there is no Charles Martel or anyone else with courage to stop france's slide into permanent dhimmitude. The Jewish community in france is the world's third largest and its members are already the first victims of the violence, torture, and slaughter so easily identified with islamization, a process that kills and enslaves.

"When it comes to the Jews, the French have a long, checkered history of treachery."

When it comes to Jews, just about every nation has a checkered past.

Poor Jews, always innocent, always persecuted. O sad tribe of saints!

      • RoguePatriot6

Perhaps you think I was being sarcastic.

I wasn't. In just about every country they have immigrated they have been persecuted.

      • Mary Sue

        cool story bro. Umad?

      • http://frontpage richard sherman

Some people exterminate entire Jewish populations with gas chambers and other means( the Germans and everyone who supported them including the Muslims) and some by decapitation as Muhammad and the Muslims did at Quaraza and elsewhere…you cannot change history even if you hate the Jews..

France is not alone when it comes to this. The rest of Europe is little different. The outcome of today's circus event at the U.N. (itself a kind of sad circus) was predictable and should surprise no one. In the end, Israel MUST make the arabs pay a heavy price. Israel MUST annex the territories and put an end to this never ending disaster of "death by a thousand cuts" that the arabs and the world at large – specifically Europe who seems to have resurrected their dreams of the final solution – aim to inflict upon the Jewish people.

  • pierce

Funny? No. The current President, and the past President are both Jewish. Correct me if I am wrong.
What I can not understand is why any one would back a rogue country such as Palestine. Oops Palestine is not yet a country.

    • Lan Astaslem

hey pierce, here's something to do in your spare time – walk through any of france's many no-go zones – the public housing zoos where the Jew hating, West hating muslims live – wearing a Jewish star. You just might not come out alive, but in your case it wouldn't be much of a loss – one less Jew-hating slimebag

      • Lan Astaslem

oops – sorry Pierce, the above message is for pollyanna – not you

    • objectivefactsmatter

"Funny? No. The current President, and the past President are both Jewish. Correct me if I am wrong."

That label is used far too broadly. Having some relationship with Jews historically or genetically is hardly relevant. It's not always clear what the connection is, so often these connections are simply used by collectivists to make irrelevant points about…collectivism.

Anyone who attempts to give away, take or steal the Holy Land makes WAR on GOD!

Not one inch of GOD given Jewish Holy Land to totalitarian, expansionist, colonizing Islam! Not now! Not ever! Re-take Gaza! Declare sovereignty over BIBLICAL Judea and Samaria. OBEY G-D! Kick the Muslim Waqf off the JEWISH Temple Mount! Rebuild the Third Temple!

When we disobey GOD we have to face unpleasant consequences. When we obey GOD, GOD takes care of the results.

Bible: THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM!

Not one more dollar, shekel, euro or pound to Gaza/Hamas-PLO-Palestinian Authority Muslim terrorist OCCUPATION Forces!

Stop FORCING the Free World's people to finance EVIL!

  • LindaRivera

Our treasonous leaders have colonized our countries with many millions of Muslims in order for Muslims to OBEY the Quran and wage jihad against us and conquer our countries. And that includes France.

Abu Baseer in London: “One of the goals of immigration is the revival of the duty of jihad and enforcement of power over the infidels. Immigration and jihad go together.

Founder of Islam, Mohammed: “I have been made victorious with terror”, “Wage war on the infidel and kill them until Islam is dominant” (Koran 8:39)

    • vladdi

      Right as always, Linda!

I work for a French person. This is absolutely true! When the terrorist attacked a school
in Toulouse France killing a Rabbi and 3 young Jewish children ( that beautiful little girl), I commented on how terrible that was.
The reply I got back was that the Jews caused it. That is SICK SICK! The French can be summed up in one word. COWARDS
They come to this country and vote for BO! To turn this country into New France.

    • Mary Sue

lemme guess, dude also believes "Jews did 9/11!" ? amirite?

  • Murray

French antisemitism is historically factual. But it lacks motivational rationale. Muslims reap clear political and economic rewards when they conquer and subjugate the infidel. Israel certainly is a jewel ripe for plucking. But what's in it for the French? Innate cultural insanity? Without breadcrumbs leading to some recognizable compensation in return for their anti-Jewish bias our arguments are reduced to name calling.

    • objectivefactsmatter

"But what's in it for the French?"

      Today?

The delusional left are benign (in their minds) racists. They truly believe in their superiority, but believe also that they are responsible about their reactions to it. This is what political correctness is about for the most part. The elites believe they can remain masters of the new realities they are creating. They truly believe the Muslims to be inferior collectively without analyzing why (culture or genetics?).

But still, why tolerate the obvious harm? Because they gain access to resources in Islamic nations, and expect to leverage this to become or remain world powers and try to compete with US hegemony. It's not enough to have Western cultural hegemony. The elites want their national power to rise, especially if their nation had a past that was seemingly greater then than it is today, or was when they started these ill-advised policies.

If you ignore some of the facts and implications, these expectations are not totally irrational. When you wake up entirely, you see what a horror scenario they've created.

Historically, I don't know how long Islamic considerations have driven attitudes towards Jews. Catholicism has been strong in France, and the Roman "Christians" have used antagonism against Jews since they first revised the history of the Church in the 4th century AD.

Any nation with such a strong Catholic influence will likely have the same specific tendencies even before Islam is factored in. Once oil became important and it was clear where the best deals were to be had, the Jews had no chance politically among the heartless gentile elites. This happened just as the Palestinian Mandate was being organized and implemented.

"Without breadcrumbs leading to some recognizable compensation in return for their anti-Jewish bias our arguments are reduced to name calling."

I disagree. Arguments with incomplete answers should lead to more research. Citing history without motive is not "name calling" unless you adopt the liberal lexicon (vocabulary).

      • vladdi

Re: "Why tolerate the obvious harm htat comes from engaging with islamic countries in the middle east? Because countries like France gain access to resources in Islamic nations, and expect to leverage this to become or remain world powers and try to compete with US hegemony. It's not enough to have Western cultural hegemony. The elites want their national power to rise, especially if their nation had a past that was seemingly greater then than it is today, or was when they started these ill-advised policies."

        Well Said!

And (even worse!) the real reason the islamic threat is being ignored in public, is this not-so-nascent "Globalization" movement, which is clearly treason to ALL sovereign national people's governments. It's a plutocratic kleptocracy to be run by all those corporazis who never want to pay any taxes to anyone, anywhere, ever; by the global communazi labour guys who want free movement and the same lowest common denominator wages for their 3rd-world slaves, and of course by the moslems who want their one-world islamic ummah, to be run by their theocratic caliphate government. It's a triple-threat. Against all these evil forces, we have only the Truth … while only they currently control both the fear and the greed.

As long as ONLY the enemy controls both the behavioural conditioning binaries of the stick (fear of personally having one's own family firebombed or beheaded by the Jihad) and the carrot (greed for oil-money bribes), those sales-puppets we laughingly call "our leaders" and their complicit media presstitute pets will insist on maintaining their preposterously backwards, victim-blaming "narrative" that only we are to blame for the Qur'an's 1,400 years of hate, so that we should all "Submit and learn how to be better victims!"

    • spiritof1776

The only "motivation" for letting the Muslims take completely over is COWARDICE.
You see the Jews don't slaughter ppl. They work hard play by the rules, contribute to a society.

      • vladdi

        Exactly! Cowardice loves company!

    • vladdi

"Innate cultural insanity" in this case, is simple masochism: (which all liberals are afflicted by) – when they see something they fear, their immedite response is to Submit to it: "We have to let the violent criminals do what they want to us, or else they'll do what they want to us anyway!"

In this way, they hope to avoid the fear of pain, by pre-emptively inflicting that pain on themselves (thus cancelling the auxiliary pain caused by the fear)! See?
      ;-)

I'm a French Jewish country bumpkin, and I grew up in France. Far from Paris mind you, and rather isolated, for most of my childhood and my boarding school adolescence, from the Jewish Community's cocoon except for the EEIF youth movement on weekends and holidays. Most of my buddies were non-Jewish French boys, and my girlfriends were of course adorable Shikses (Yes, capital S', it is a term of adulation!). Antisemitism was a feature of everyday life, and acknowledging this along with the many, and frequent fisticuffs it implied was just what my dad, G_d bless his soul, had prepared me for. A Jew could earn respect, and even affection, by behaving according to the old stiff neck principles. The difference between "us" and "them" was precisely that, our code of honor. Theirs was rather optional, and many were holding the belief that dignity was unimportant as long as fun could be had.
All this was getting pretty tedious and demanding, so I moved to Israel as soon as I could, where life is easier and the air lighter to breathe. I do fly into a rage at times, with native-born Izzies who do not seem to grasp the proper handling of antisemites, and who are not even able to identify antisemitism even as it is thumbing its nose at them, but this is a far cry from carrying the burden of Kvod Israel in the French countryside. Peace.

There are a lot of Jews that emigrated to America, and they've had few problems. There have been some anti-semitic things that happened here, but not to the extent of what happened in France.

  • Tanner

I thought Spain was the most anti-Semitic country in Europe today. But I guess times are changing, or that I got my facts wrong.

    • Mary Sue

I think Spain and France are in a race to the bottom in that regard.

Your comment is evidence of simple, unmitigated uncritical thinking. French is not a race.

That is very typcial of ungrateful backstabbing Zionist. France was one of few countries that was standing by the "jewish state" in the 50's and the 60's. As a matter of fact, most of Israeli weapon came from france and the Dimona nucleur reactor was built by the French. France is the country that led the way for Israel to be a member of the European scientific and technological community.

Which should make Israel a slave state to France, am I right? Backstabbers won't die when they're instructed. Unbelievable those Jews.

  • malicious12

If France was so anti-semitic why does have the largest jewish community out side israel and second only to the U.S.. The reason that president Charles De Gaulle imposed an arm embargo on Israel was because they did not take france's advice of not attacking Arab lands in 1967 and thus creating the mess we have today. There was no existential threat to Israel and knew that. Egypt despite their bluffing, they had 40% of their elite army bogged down in Yemen and the rest of Arab countries did not have big enough army to combat Israel, beside Israel got an assurance from France and American as well, for getting involved if they were attacked first. Ofcourse, they attacked the U.S.S Liberty in the mediterrenean in cold blood, so they would not find out that Israel is the one instigated the war. Huhh…. C'est vrai comme l'ambassdeur Daniel Bernard a dit "Ce petit pays de merde".

Where did you get your history narratives from? The 1967 war was a defensive one with respect to Israel. Israel drew first literal blood only because they're a lot more intelligent.

Another case of envy and over-simplification on your part.

Smells like a liberal to me.

Why should Israel have trusted the French and their promises when France committed the most heinous treachery against the Jews of France after the French surrender to the German Nazis in 1940.
France once again is committing treachery against the 600,000 to 800,000 Jews of France by ignoring the Jew-hatred, physical attacks on Jews, Murder of harassment of Jews, fire bombing of Synagogues, Jewish owned shops, perpetrated mainly by Arabs and non-Arab Muslims, however, instead of really clamping down on those vicious evil people, the government try to imagine that it's not happening.
After what happened in the holocaust, i would go as far as staing that I don't trust any government with the security of the Jews in Europe today.

I think this false recognition of Palestine as a state by different western countries is really weird. But ultimately, this will play out most favourably for Israel, I believe, because this is like throwing down the gauntlet to the muslims. If they do not forge ahead with building their own state and continue perpetrating unholy jihad on the Jews, well then, the muslims have no more excuses, not so? Unless, of course, the west is going to go all the way and support and permit the genocide of the Jews in Israel, on their own soil?
