OWS Indoctrination Camp for High Schoolers

Pages: 1 2

When asked if the college had ever taught a course on the Tea Party, Ms. Homan pointed out that the course “isn’t going to be about the Occupy movement. It will be an aspect of it, but it’s not the sole focus of the class” which is aimed at examining “current events, different ways people choose to have their voices heard, and terminology surrounding protests.” As for the Tea Party aspect, Ms. Homan said that “we’ve definitely heard from everybody about incorporating an aspect of the Tea Party, and that’s definitely valid, and that’s something that [Ms. Singhal] will incorporate.”

Ms. Homan described the reaction to this story as “mixed,” noting that the concern was with the original course description. “That’s why we’ve assured everyone that we’ve amended it to insure that it reflects…what the course was always intended to be,” even as the “effort to be exciting” has gotten the college “more attention than we’ve ever needed.” When asked why the title of the course wasn’t changed, Ms. Homan made the point that the added publicity makes it easier to find. “The course is ultimately about voice,” she insisted, adding that “there is no intent of advocating for the Occupy movement.”

Yet there may be more going on here than the school is willing to admit. By late yesterday afternoon the description of the course had been changed yet again. According to Ms. Holman the final description of the course “which will go to print for the summer youth brochure” is this: “Around the world, growing numbers of people are making their voices heard. This class provides a unique, creative opportunity to discuss social issues and protests in the past and present. What are the frustrations behind them? How are they portrayed? How do you evaluate what you hear? We need to be savvy consumers of information, to learn how to question and evaluate, and, how and when to voice our positions. Join this interactive class to gain valuable insights into leadership and to develop critical thinking skills. This is an excellent investment in yourself, your skills, and your future success.”

What’s missing? Any mention of the Occupy movement at all. Such an “evolving” course description suggests that Montgomery College, despite the insistence by Ms. Holman that the original course description was nothing more than an over-zealous effort to attract students, has been caught red-handed creating a course they would have preferred remain largely under the public radar. Adding to the dubiousness is the fact that the college is not making instructor Neha Singhal’s contact information available. An email sent by Ms. Homan describing Ms. Singhal was vague. She is someone who “has previously taught workshops to high school students in Prince George’s County and Montgomery County [Maryland]. She taught in Montgomery College’s summer youth program last year. Ms. Singhal works at a four-year university, and she is a master’s degree student.”

To be fair, Montgomery is hardly unique. Several colleges are teaching courses on the OWS movement, including NYU, Columbia, Brown and UCLA. What sets Montgomery apart is the idea of offering an OWS course to high school students, albeit those taking Advanced Placement classes, as young as 14 years of age. And considering the efforts of college officials to defuse this story by changing the description of the course, as well as keeping its teacher under wraps, one can only wonder whether some of the squalid reality surrounding the OWS movement, including the illegal occupation of public property, the riots, the rapes, and the anti-Semitism–coupled with its anti-capitalist underpinnings, including publicly professed support from the American Nazi and Communist Parties–will be an integral part of the curriculum.

Until the details of the syllabus are made available, one is more inclined to believe “Occupy MoCo!” was going to be more about indoctrination than education. Considering the amount of public backpedalling already occurring, one can only imagine how this is playing out in the privacy of the dean’s office. The adage, “sunlight is the best disinfectant” seems very apropo.

Occupy is the refuge for losers, spoiled ingrates, vandals, and idiots……..Occupy is a steaming pile. Get to work you bums! Clean up your neighborhood. Plant some trees. Volunteer. Help the disabled, Raise money for Doctors without Borders or something like that……..NAHHHH that ain't your style…smashing windows and blocking the streets is your idea of doing something meaningful.

    • flyingtiger

Doctors without borders is as left wing as other organizations. I used to support them when they started, but now the left wingers have taken over.

      • Amused

yea , dirty MF's that they are ….imagine!! treating those dirt poor ungratefull unemployed bums in other countries , not adhering to any politiacl AFFILIATION or subscribing to any political ideology .You Go Girl , dont give them commies another dime !

      • BS77

Didn't know that…thanks…..it was just a suggestion for providing help for charities that actually serve the poor, the sick, the children in third world nations etc. Support like Smile Train, Food for the Poor etc. Most of the OWS whiners have no idea what life is like in places like Tibet, North Korea, Zaire, Somalia etc etc….

      • swissik

Pretty much all so called non-profits are left wing, but at least some, like the doctors without borders do some good somewhere in the world, which is more than you can say about the OWSers.

  • truebearing

What a shock. Our colleges have abandoned teaching about Marxism and have decided to indoctrinated students into Marxism. For extra credit they probably offer courses in Alinsky and Gramsci.

These college instructors have gotten quite bold here in Obama's Grave New World. They hardly care if people know they are using our colleges as training centers for goose steppers. Oh, what a falling off there has been in the nation that used to lead the free world.

The American Left followed Gramsci's strategy of infiltration of key social institutions and nowhere did they put more effort than in our schools and media. To turn this aroiund now, we need new schools and to create our own media. Most that is existent is corrupt beyond repair.

This class will eventually be cancelled. Good work!

    • mlcblog

Would that it were true! This "class" has been going on for over a hundred years since even back in Europe when they hated kings in France. Mob rule. How grand!

    • http://n/a James P. Carter

Wednesday I was at Montgomery College Rockville to find out more about this class and was told by a staffer in the “Student Services/Admissions Office” that it was still “tentative” and to check back in mid-April. However, it’s on the Summer Youth Program class schedule for July 9th through July 20th, M-F, 1PM-4PM. If enough people complain between now and then hopefully the class will be canceled.

Shame … These kids who lack critical skills in science, mathematics, reading and how to write are college bound to learn what and at whose exspence? How to protest and demand shared wealth as their entitlement!
They would be better served to learn how to survive in the work-place and learn to become givers to, rather than takers from, others.
We are entering an era when "right is wrong and wrong is right"!
Don't blame government or society … blame ourselves for not doing what is right … start with answering this question with absolute certainty … where will I spend eternity? There is only two answers … smoking or non-smoking.

    • http://n/a James P. Carter

Wednesday when I was at Montgomery College Rockville to find out more about this class, none of the five student office-staffers I discuss this class with could find the class on Montgomery College’s web-site. Of course, maybe the “Vietnam Veteran” cap I was wearing had something to do with that.

  • Rifleman

What a country, one can be as old as the man pictured, and never grow up. Who says Neverland doesn't exist?

    • StephenD

Ha Ha. But then again, he isn't lying is he? For him, Capitalism CAN'T work. He'd have to get off his ass and go to work! From the looks of him, he'll have none of that!

Albuquerque "un-Occupy" disrupted a speech last night by NONIE DARWISH at the University of New Mexico. "Un" was added months ago since it was a statement that the land was taken away from Native Americans.

Earlier in the afternoon on the University mall, a group had a table with a Che poster hanging off the table which had "Socialist Party" information and advertising their meetings at the local Peace and Justice Center. Illegal since it is a political party at a tax-exempt organization? The CPUSA and ANSWER also have meetings there.

Members of unoccupy, the Socialist Party, and Students for Justice in Palestine passed out flyers in the lobby for their upcoming event and some people were offended. Then about forty minutes into her speech, WHICH THEY LISTENED TO ABOUT "ISLAMOPHOBIA," which was the title of the students flyer, which means they should have learned something about Nonie's personal experience, but they disrupted with "Mic Check" and then shouting. THE AUDIENCE WAS 95% ELDERLY AND SENIORS and many of them rushed up the steps to KICK THEM OUT! IS THIS A FIRST since it's usually the police who take them out? THESE SENIORS WERE HEROIC! The police were then called but the students were leaving.

WHAT ACTIONS can be taken against students who disrupted an internationally known writer and speaker and denied her of her FREE SPEECH? One former professor tried to takeover the question period and people were shouting "What's your question?" He said that this was a university and a zone of free speech. FUNNY THAT HE AND THE UNOCCUPY DENIED NONIE DARWISH OF HERS!!!

    • Steve Chavez

Already on youtube add "Albuquerque Occupy" and then Israeli group fights Occupy.

BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN ALL! If these people hadn't taken action, the occupiers would have successfully ended her speech so they were ready when they knew this out-of-place group of people were about to start something.

SURPRISING TOO that one girl who was there to challenge Nonie changed her mind when she heard of the mistreatment of females under Sharia and the honor killing of two girls by their own father in Texas which she hadn't heard about. WHERE HAS SHE BEEN AND WHO HAS SHE BEEN LISTENING TO?

  • sedoanman

There needs to be an investigation on just who this Singhal person is. Does being a "master's degree student" qualify one to teach?

    • Amused

      Uh ….yes it does .

      • http://n/a James P. Carter

        Sad, truely sad.

  • ASG

Oh the irony! A movement who at one time demanded that someone else pay for their college education is now being taught in college.

    • intrcptr2

Don't suppose the tutition is being deferred, or donated to a "worthy" cause, do you?

      • http://n/a James P. Carter

I don’t know about either of those but as a natural born American citizen, a Vietnam Veteran and a ta-paying homeowner in Rockville MD (where “Occupy MoCo” will be taught) I do know that the instructor’s former employer CASA de Maryland was the driving force behind the State of Maryland letting illegal immigrants take college courses at in-State resident tuition rates.

"People all over the world are taking democracy into their own hands…?" Huh? Who else would take democracy into their hands? The authoritarians? The monarchists? The totalitarians?

Is someone else other than the people of the world supposed to impose democracy on the world? Isn't that
    -gasp- neoconservatism?

    • Amused

C'mon man , Conservatives are the ONLY ones qualified to "hand-out democracy " . Who else is there to serve as plugs up the arses of big buisiness , and give instruction on off shore tax shelters , conservation-scam exemptions , and fiduciary finnagling to beat taxes ……and if that aint enough , send an army of lobbyists [legal bribers ] to change tax law to their favor .

  • mrbean

One of the greatest dilemmas facing American students today is the perennial threat of leftist indoctrination on college campuses – particularly where leftist faculties dominate. In recent years, institutions of higher learning – which have historically been places for enlightened thought and dissenting opinions – have increasingly become breeding grounds for radical liberalism. College courses, which are often taught by biased professors who espouse leftist ideology, fail to adequately challenge undergraduate students and often leave many of them woefully unprepared for the real world and espousing the same mindless nonsense they were taught.

  • Zionista

I love the photo of the bald hippie geezer lying on the ground next to a garbage can (how appropriate). I think the OWS crowd has found their poster boy.

  • PAthena

The "Occupy" movement is one of would-be communist tyrants who, like all tyrants, claim the support of the "masses," in the case of the Occupy movement, 99% of Americans, for which they have no evidence. It is funded by such as George Soros. Note the tents, toilet facilities, and the privately held blackberries, etc. I was at a meeting of the American Philosophical Association which ha a session on the Occupy movement. No one on the panel had any criticisms, so in the question period I made my comments. Afterwards, someone from the audience shouted that there are no free elections in the U.S. – which showed the tyrannical basis of the Occupy movement, since the lowliest elected official has more claim to representing his constituents than these would-be tyrants. As David Horowitz reports, it is another front for communists.

Isn't it interesting that NO ONE involved in establishing high-school-level curricula has any interest in approaching "social" justice from the perspective of free-market capitalism, which accentuates liberty and free choice, the trade-off being that inequality may follow, as opposed to command-system moralism, which emphasizes helping those who fall below a certain material standard, the trade-off being that initially liberty is lost in the pursuit of equality, then everyone becomes poor, then everyone becomes needy, thus insuring the collapse of all social justice systems based on equality.

It's not capitalism that doesn't work, it's collectivism and egalitarianism. I get a kick out the fact that the old geezer is wearing his Nikes, no doubt manufactured in some Asian sweatshop by a 10-year-old working 12-hour days for a few pennies a day.

  • flyingtiger

Why don' they call this class mob rule 101? You will earn 3 hrs of credit towards you masters of anarchy degree. Student loans available.

    • http://n/a James P. Carter

And, in this particular case, student loans available to illegal immigrants at in-State legal citizen tuition rates which are unavailable to military personnel temporarily living in Maryland due to their duty assignment.

  • Questions

I almost can guarantee you the unions are heavily involved in this project. The AFL-CIO's training and education center is located in nearby Silver Spring, Md., which is in Montgomery County. Coincidence? Well, as they say on Fox News, you decide.

  • http://n/a James P. Carter

Montgomery Colllege Director of Communications Elizabeth Homan may well be correct that the course developer and instructor, Neha Singhal, is not listed on Montgomery College’s staff because she will only be a part-time, short-term employee and that she is not affilliated in any way with OWS but Neha Singhal has definitely been affilliated with CASA de Maryland, South Asian Americans Leading Together and La Union del Pueblo Entero — anti-establishment organizations with the similar mission of furthering their cause at the expense of others, often times via mass civil-disobedience (OWS/Occupy DC) under the guise of freedom of speech. http://www.linkedin.com/in/nehams.

    • Red Maryland

You better believe that Montgomery College, by offering this course, wanted to indoctrinate students into the OWS movement. Just last year, they gave free tuition to illegal alien students, which the taxpayers of Maryland
are being forced to fund. What's behind it? Yep, Casa de Maryland, a powerful Marxist organization that is the illegal alien lobby in Maryland; that has taken over the state house in Annapolis. The past President of Casa de Maryland, Thomas E. Perez , is now a high ranking official in the U.S. Justice Dept. in Washington. And I believe that Casa has defeated Del. Pat McDonough's efforts to stop the implemenation of the DREAM Act; thus free tuition for illegals is the order of the day at Montgomery College. The college is a hot bed of leftist propaganda, and the leftist, politically correct faculty absolutely refuses to consider the teaching application of anyone who isn;t a member of a PC protected group. A number of faculty there are quite anti-semitic; and its no surprise that they mostly have a global view of political and economic matters. And Montgomery County itself is likewise a joke; being $760 million dollars in the red,

      • http://n/a James P. Carter

As a natural born American citizen and long-time resident of and tax-payer in Rockville Maryland, I am all too well aware of CASA de Maryland and Thomas E. Perez. Last Wednesday when I went to Montgomery College Rockville to find out more about “Occupy MoCo” the hateful look I got from virtually everyone there made it very obvious that it is indeed a hot bed of leftist propaganda — perhaps I shouldn’t have worn my “Vietnam Veteran” cap.

    • Red Maryland

And it goes well beyond the confines of Montgomery College. The county has a high concentration of illegals, most of whom are hostile towards legal county residents; but who are encouraged by the left-leaning Montgomery County Council and County Executive; and the socialist PC police force. Montgomery County, MD–it would be a joke if it wasn't true.

      • http://n/a James P. Carter

Indeed. Legal residents, especially non-Latino legal residents, of Montgomery County Maryland are, for all intents and purposes, aliens.

  • Back to the Future

By the time election day in November rolls around, these mobs will be occupying voting poll locations all over the country, and there'll be staged riots, and violence too, at polls just about everywhere also, with Che posters and assorted other provocative radical/revolutionary materials all over the place, and New Black Panther type bullies, etc., hanging around, the whole works, defecations and all, just wait and see.

  • SGT Ted

Leftists in academia always pull crap like this.

  • Amused

Uh , to all you DIMBULBS and political TOOLS out there , who are screaming screeds and whining about …WOOOoooooo OWS indoctrination camps , I simply say :

GO GOOGLE TEA PARTY SUMMER CAMPS / CONSERVATIVE SUMMER CAMPS
Then come back here and tell me your story , you bunch of mindless hypocrites .
    " Do as I say , not as I do " eh ?
BTW , if facts somehow slide down the rather large memory hole in your thinking ….these INDOCTRINATION CAMPS run by Repo/con/ tea baggers are far more numerous than anything related to OWS .

    • Red Maryland

Conservative summer camps and leadership forums don't turn kids into public nuisances and red-diaper
doper babies. They try to make kids into responsible citizens; that's the difference. But since you're so amused, why don't you get off your high horse and come over to Maryland? See how you like living in
      the People's Republic–the Once-Free State.

      • Amused

        So says you .

        • http://n/a James P. Carter

          So says me as well.

Furthermore, tax-payers aren’t forced to subsidize conservative summer camps/leadership forums like they are liberal indoctrination institutions.

    • truebearing

Bemused, you're more inflamed than usual. Try soaking in Preparation H.

OH …and this is ESPECIALLY for the poster calling him/her self – back to the future. So this election should be fun , just think OWS and Repocon/teabagger summer camp indoctrinaires mobbing the polls and defacating all over the place .

I remember seeing something on a Che Gueverra tee shirt but usually pay no attention to such_as Che but but but but but but dark lord deny what you said, now now not me. • Red Maryland

      So says you.

  • Amused

Yea they do Sgt.Ted- just like the righties in academia .The only thing this country will never run out of is ….HYPOCRISY .

    • mah29001

So it's okay for only Leftists to run the academia? That must be fine considering you're the dolt who embraced Saul Alinsky.

    • swissik

What righties? At universities? Please give a few examples. I am retired from a career in academia, albeit in central administration and I state categorically that not even in the hard sciences does one find a reasonably conservative academic. There are numerous surveys that 95% of academia is politically center left. Where have you been?

  • Brujo Blanco

Young people are being taught about evil of capitalism. They are learning that this country is evil and needs to be converted to socialism. The left will eventually turn truly violent.

  • WilliamJamesWard

I think I will pass on this course and wait for something somewhat more uplifting and socially acceptable
to todays scholastic thinkers, yes I will wait for a course on "grunge" which I am sure will make me
acceptable as a political candidate for high office and if not at least I could mix in on any campus.
    William

  • Amused

LOL..in addition , OWS aint got nothin ' on Tea party and Repocon summer camps , they start'em way before high school .
What seems strange or [disgusting ] depending on your point of view , way back in the 50's , those hippy infested 60's , the 70's and the ME -ME 80's , no one right or left , atleast on any organized or official level , attempted these stupid-asss camps to indoctrinate kids into some political ideology . For all the whining and handwringing that goes on here about the '60s , there was none of this Orwellian / nazi-esque bullsheeet going on .

  • WilliamJamesWard

    Trolls in the neighborhood!!!……………………………William

Well ya know , when confronted with the truth of the matter , I guess different people react according to their ability and grasp of the facts . [ or lack thereof ] Hence accusation rather than an intelligent refute . But that's all you got William .

    • WilliamJamesWard

Who's refuting what and what accusation are you talking about, I think you have missed something
and are jumping to conclusions which is not unlike you but search the thread and see that almost

      William

    • Red Maryland

      So says you.

  • Amused

Tell me true William , you honestly did not know of the right wing [Repo/con/ tea party ] summer camps ? And the FACT that they are far more numerous , and incorporate grades lower than high school ?

    • http://n/a James P. Carter

Tell me true Amused, you honestly know of right wing Repo/con/tea party summer camps being subsidized with tax-payer money?

  • Amused

That's not really an answer William . Well the answer is yes there are many and they have been in existence for years . The point here of course is , indoctrination of the young . The irony is , that if its OWS it';s indoctrination , but if its the right …lol…then it's something else . ….nice sidestep William .

    • Amused

BTW , I'm totally against both , left or right ….leave them kids alone .Their time to wade through the cesspool will come soon enough .No sense in having a pissing contest over either .

      • WilliamJamesWard

Considering the rate of societal degeneracy what the next generation inherits is a poor
showing of what could have been a better world, kind of a building of society but now
going down hill. Greed from on top and scammers working their way there without any
concern or idea of responsibility towards anyone else is a big part of the problem society
must work out. I will not see it, whatever it is going to be………………………William

        • WilliamJamesWard

          BTW, it's a two step………..No and Yes

thanks for clarifying that William , one would never know ….NOT .
"ces la memsoilles " …lol …as best I can remember from French 101.

  • Amused

…and remember William , although I have seen no reaction ANYWHERE else , the incident involves not a summer camp expressley set up to provide indoctrination , but a single course offered.
Another typical strawman [blown out of proportion ] by the illustrious single-minded authors of FPM .And of course ,it evoked the expected Pavlovian Response .

It's what government wannabe lefty hot shot bureaucrats want, with all their menial farm and factory slaves and forced labor camps to keep them fed and clothed and pampered with lots of official petty perks 'n stuff, just like in all the totalitarian commie states (and little do the useless oh-so-clever OWS slackers and defecators in public places know that such labor camps are to be their final destination).
