Obama Gets Serious — About Mariah vs. Minaj

Throughout his administration, comics across the television landscape have shied away from attacking President Obama. “Obama doesn’t give you much to grab onto,” explains Saturday Night Live writer Jim Downey. “He’s like a smooth rock face of perfect obsidian with no ledges or toeholds, and your job is to scale 200 feet of it.”

Or they’re just the world’s most untalented comedians.

How else to explain why comedians simply won’t mock a man who tweets pictures of himself with a cardboard cutout of himself – and the caption “You look familiar”? Or appears on “Pimp With The Limp,” but not on Fox News? Or skips a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu so that he can hang with the ladies on “The View,” and there label himself “eye candy”?

This president isn’t just worth joking about. He’s a joke.

This week, that fact became blindingly obvious as the scandal surrounding the killing of our ambassador in Benghazi, Libya, along with three other Americans, blew up in Obama’s face. The Obama administration has made a farce of foreign policy. Now they’ve made a farce out of murder, with the State Department blaming the intelligence community, Obama and Joe Biden blaming the State Department, and the intelligence community blaming both the other outfits.

President Obama has, thus far, been absolutely silent on Libya. He hasn’t taken a position on why the administration kept blaming a silly YouTube video for multiple murder and a terrorist attack. He hasn’t explained why there were no armed Marines at the consulate in Benghazi.

But he has explained his perspective on the supposed feud between American Idol hosts Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. He appeared on the prestigious and vaunted “Yo Show” on Monday to do so:

I think that they are going to be able to sort it out, I am confident. I’m all about bringing people together, working for the same cause, I think both outstanding artists are going to be able to make sure that they’re moving forward and not going backwards.

No wonder he’s won a Nobel Peace Prize.

The question isn’t why Obama is a lightweight. He is what he is. He was never a Clintonian wonk, and he was never a president with Reagan’s values. He has always skipped along the surface of life, pretending to care about the downtrodden while exploiting their support so he can hang out with his celebrity friends. Given the choice, President Obama would far prefer to play golf with George Clooney than hang with his supposed base in Chicago.

Obama is actually the funniest president in modern memory. He’s supposed to be a genius, but he can’t be away from a teleprompter for five minutes without dropping a bomb. He’s supposed to be a great athlete, but he throws the opening pitch like Barbara Walters in a windstorm. He’s supposed to be a genial fellow, but his death glare appears every time he meets someone who refuses to genuflect.

How can you not mock President Obama?

It’s easy if you’re the Hollywood left. Instead of parodying President Obama, you simply become part of the parody. Thus, we have Scarlett Johansson, Kerry Washington, and Eva Longoria informing everyday women about Planned Parenthood and abortion, telling us to fund it – while they sit in their palatial estates off Sunset Blvd. sipping chai lattes while their expensive accountants locate the most convenient tax loopholes. Thus, we have Kanye West showing up to Occupy Wall Street wearing a designer shirt worth hundreds of dollars and gold chains worth thousands.

Obama is a Hollywood president for a reason. Hollywood is beyond all mockery. It’s simply too easy.

Daily intel reports were are not important and worth the time to ready, but this 0 found important enough to spend time on. Digraceful.

    • trickyblain

I know, right? It's almost as if he were out in Texas chopping brush down while ignoring reports saying "BIN LADED DETERMINED TO STRIKE INSIDE US."

  • David R

We voted him in…now we gotta live with it. Society gets the leaders it deserves.

  • rockman

If it becomes necessary to separate them, Obama should appoint Nicki Minaj as our new Ambassador to Libya just to show how seriously he takes all this. It's time to send a message to Libya and the Jihadists.
If they continue to misbehave, we should send Brittney Spears and Snoop Dog.

    • Herbster

Great comments, Rockman. Let's not forget that Hillary will be stepping down from her disastrous term as Sec/Sate in January. My idea of the perfect replacement nominee who would fit right in with the administration should obambi be reelected…..The Pimp With a Limp.

  • Schlomotion

Journalism is really going down the toilet. All these writers are obsessed with tweets. I have never seen such a lazy and moronic substitution for investigative reporting and analysis in my life. Pretty soon these articles will be written in textspeak.

    • Omar

Schlomotion/Flipside, Mr. Shapiro is posting accurate information about how our president and Hollywood are influencing each other and how that can get out of hand. The administration needs to focus on what is going on in this country and around the world.

      • Schlomotion

Another way of looking at it is that Mr. Shapiro and Mr. Tapson just refeed Twitter nonsense into the substream of journalism, dumbing down the news.

        • Omar

Flipside, unlike you, Mr. Shapiro and Mr. Tapson provide accurate information about the news. Unlike you, they do not post propaganda.

          • Zionista

and unlike your sorry a$%, Shapiro and Tapson are RELEVANT, employed, successful people that a loser like you stews in envy over – shmomuslim = major loser

          • Schlomotion

Bemoaning Twitter statements about Nicki Minaj is "the news?"

          • Omar

Well, yes. A president has to accomplish duties first. But of course you wouldn't understand that at all because you spend half the time criticizing Front Page Magazine for posting accurate information, Flipside.

          • Schlomotion

What are you, the Department of Presidential Itinerary?

          • Omar

No, but unlike you, I happen to post comments on accurate information. You on the other hand, post lies about news in general. Flipside, do us a favor and keep your ignorance to yourself.

          • Schlomotion

Not really. You post generic low level comments that are far below "complex debate" style comments at a shill warehouse. I am not saying that with any hyperbole. Literally, you repeat low grade rebuttals and occasionally you stack dump massive, unpunctuated, rambling, single paragraphs of cobbled together facts. That type of posting marks you as being a temp working janitor of sorts.

          • Omar

Flipside, once again, you keep showing your ignorance. The fact remains that I post accurate information, while you post lies and distortions of the truth.

          • bkopicz

            1. Working as a janitor is honest work and is not meant to be used as a derogatory remark to be thrown around by a pompous elitist as yourself. Typical of leftist such as yourself (don't give me bs "I'm a libertarian") to say you fight for the working class in speeches while holding him or her in contempt in private. Learn something about real life, clean you own damn urinal.

2.You complex debate consists of a bad imitation of Professor Irwin Corey.

Too bad it's the 'only choice'* of reading for you on the entire internet.
            *sarcasm

    • Advocatus

Schlo, be that as it may, surprise, surprise you still can't answer the contents of an article in any meaningful fashion. You're the kind of fellow who is barely articulate but will slam anyone, including the likes of Chritopher Hitchens and Mark Steyn, as a imbecile simply because you can't muster a cogent counterargument and you know it.

People on this site humor you because you have a certain entertainment value, like a one-trick pony bouncing a ball with its muzzle. You also sound like someone who is mentally impaired so I guess one should not be too hard on you.

      • Schlomotion

In the same way, no man can take the contents of a can of dog food and make it into a five star beef stroganoff. "The contents of the article" in this case are a protracted vilification of one out of two lackluster candidates for President. The basis of the vilification is so superficial that it has to be chalked up to an extreme case of personal preference.

        • Omar

Flipside, what does dog food have anything to do with this conservation. You make no sense the majority of the time.

          • Schlomotion

Adjust your visor to second order predicates. That should work.

          • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLNn2YflwNs Roger

Did the voices inside your muslim tinfoil prayer cap say that?

          • Omar

What is that supposed to mean, Flipside? You make no sense at all.

        • Advocatus

Schlo, just as one cannot take a cow pie and turn into a gourment dish — as you've been trying so valiantly here for the past weeks, months, and (for all I know) years.

          • Schlomotion

It's nice of you to call me valiant. It makes me feel like Sir Gawain.

          • Advocatus

I'm glad you feel like Sir Gawain for valiantly serving up one intellectual cow pie after another. I've seen worse delusions, trust me.

  • Kufar Dawg

Why doesn't anyone mock Obama? Probably for the same reasons no one mocks Morsi, or Erdogan in Egypt or Turkey. Fear.

    • Questions

Apparently, you haven't watched "Saturday Night Live" recently any more than Ben has. There is at least one Obama impersonation on every segment. And yes, they're funny.

  • riverboatbill

Obama has done so many "funny" things that I am laughing myself-sick.

  • ZIZZLE

    “YOU KNOW WHAT I’M SAYIN?”

    - Used at the end of a sentence. Denotes they are both are funk-thang, OBAMA ebonic-babe voters.

  • Ghostwriter

    This is ridiculous.

  • trickyblain

Was this column supposed to be funny? I think Shapiro is confusing humor with outright anger. While it is funny when right-wing nutcases droollingly unhinged, I don't think that's what he was going for.

  • pierce

It is probably too late, but some one will read this besides me. Obama is truly something out of a space movie. He cares more about Mariah Carey and Minaj than the does about protecting the citizens of the USA.
It is disgraceful beyond all that is sacred, what has happened over the last 5 weeks. He does not want to admit that he screwed up big time with regards to Libya. I just wonder how many others who will vote thru Nov. 6th suffer the same indignation I do. He does not deserve to be reelected. THAT IS RIGHT, HE DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE REELECTED. ANY ONE WHO VOTES FOR HIM HAS GOT TO BE DEAF, DUMB, AND BLIND.
