Obama’s Hollywood Shock Troops

President Obama is a celebrity president. He was produced by Hollywood, down to his Tom Hanks-read 2012 campaign video and his high production value Greek column backgrounds in 2008. He’s a man of little substance who somehow finagled his way to the nation’s highest office – a true rags to riches Hollywood story.

And he’s obsessed with celebrity. He finds the famous endlessly fascinating. At a meet and greet with NBA players in August, the President was almost self effacing when he stated, it’s “very rare I come to an event where I’m like the 5th or 6th most interesting person.” Obama’s been in the room with world leaders, with Nobel Prize winners, with great thinkers. And he says this to NBA players? Some of the least interesting people on the planet?

But for Obama, they’re interesting because they’re famous. Obama has met George Clooney in the White House some seven times. He’s met Beyonce Knowles twice. Jay-Z has been to the White House four times. The list of celebrities who hang with the president is endless. This week, Obama campaigned with Katy Perry, who took enough time out from kissing girls and liking it to stump for The One. And he’s trotted out bubbleheaded celebrity endorsers like Scarlett Johansson, Eva Longoria (who has also visited the White House five times), and Kerry Washington to talk about women’s rights.

But last week, down in the polls, President Obama pulled out all the stops. First, he brought Barbra Streisand out of the woodwork to write a hysterical letter for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee:

The Democratic Party urgently needs your help. We’re just weeks from the most important election in a generation and every single thing Democrats like you and I spent a lifetime fighting for is on the line. Republican Super PACs are pounding President Obama and Democratic candidates with millions of dollars of vicious attack ads. And, they could tip the balance of the election for Tea Party extremists.

She concluded the letter with a heartrending rendition of “Memories,” followed by selections from Yentl.

Then Obama called upon author and poet Maya Angelou, who was most recently seen telling the world that under George W. Bush, she had to “apologize for my country when I’m abroad.” Now, she’s sent a letter from the Obama campaign:

It is your job to vote. It is your responsibility, your right, and your privilege. You may be pretty or plain, heavy or thin, gay or straight, poor or rich …. I once debated with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. about whether an African American would ever be elected president. He believed it would happen within the next 40 years at the time — I believed it would never happen within my lifetime. I have never been happier to have been proven wrong.

And since President Barack Obama’s historic election, we’ve moved forward in courageous and beautiful ways. More students can afford college, and more families have access to affordable health insurance. Women have greater opportunities to get equal pay for equal work.

Yet as Rev. King wrote, “All progress is precarious.”

In other words, vote for President Obama because he’s black. And if he’s not re-elected, it will be because America is still racist, unready for the colorblind dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

But Obama wasn’t done yet with Hollywood campaigning. This week, he jetted into Los Angeles to sit down with Jay Leno – even as his State Department continued to stonewall all inquiries about Libya, and his White House admitted that they knew “instantaneously” about allegations that the attacks in Benghazi were premeditated terrorist assaults. On Leno, Obama didn’t discuss Libya. He did discuss his views on rape. “Rape,” he said, “is rape.”

And the crowd cheered.

In Hollywood, the crowd always cheers. That’s why Harvey Weinstein produces films for National Geographic about the killing of Osama bin Laden – and tries to put in scenes with Governor Mitt Romney turning down a potential bin Laden hit. That’s why Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty on the same subject is already previewing in theaters, just before the election.

And that’s one reason Obama will lose.

President Obama’s celebrity persona is one of the least likeable elements about him. And he doesn’t even recognize how off-putting it is. The more he calls in his Hollywood allies, the more he alienates the rest of America.

Oh gee whiz. Maya Angelou. Purple Koolaid imbiber extraordinaire. Probably perfectly ignorant of the fact that women in Obama's admin don't make as much as their male colleagues/counterparts! And they can't blame that on anything but Obama himself, since he has the power to FIX that!

So much for equal pay for equal work.

Also, Ms. Angelou, if a president is a dud, you DUMP him. Doesn't matter if it's Jimmy Carter, or Obama. Color should be irrelevant. Nobody's voting against Obama simply for being black. On the other hand a lot of people DID vote for him simply because he was black, which goes against the entire spirit of what MLKjr was espousing and working for!

She and these hollywood noobcakes would do well to remember: Politicians are like dirty diapers. They must be changed often; and for the same reason.

    • Ghostwriter

Mary Sue,I once read one of Maya Angelou's books when I was in high school,I think it was "When the Caged Bird Sings." She had an incident that in a store her father owned when a white girl did something I'm reluctant to write about here because it's very bad. Needless to say,I didn't think a whole lot about her until you brought her up again. I'm not sure how to feel about Ms. Angelou.

  • posse101

i know this is raw but here's the bottom line: the blacks and the browns and the hollywood types are lining up to ensure his re-election. i just hope there are enough white folk out there to counter this.

    • kafir4life

I think you'll find there are a LOT of silent Blacks, Browns, and many Hollywood types that are too smart to vote for President Stinky (BO) TWICE! Stinks can only win thru fraud, and it seems that osama bin lade makes regular donations to Stinky's campaign from Pakistan on a regular basis. He's probably already sent in his absentee vote.

      • posse 101

a lot of browns, blacks and hollywood types not planning to vote for Hussein? i’d say 10%… if that.

    • Mary Sue

you'd be surprised the amount of nonwhites that stopped drinking the purple koolaid and opened their eyes and became "republican 'kittens'" (or at least, 'not-democrat 'kittens').

  • Dave

Great article, Ben! You hit the nail on the head!! Bottom line: it's America vs hollyweird, period!! We MUST, MUST elect Mitt Romney and Paul RYan to save our country!! ROMNEY-RYAN 2012!!!!

    • Questions

Puleeeze. The person who brought down the GOP house in Tampa was none other than Clint Eastwood, a Hollywood A-lister with more talent in his right arm than you'll develop in a lifetime. This is just another crappy Ben Shapiro editorial, shrill in tone and selective in its use of information. The goal, as usual, is to massage some Flyover Country hate glands for political gain.

  • HermitLion

Obama knows that to win the idiot-masses (which means the mass of idiots, not the masses in general), he needs to turn over famous actors to his side. They act as amplifiers, repeating whatever propaganda the White House is interested in promoting, because actors have an amount of knowledge that's opposite to their amount of self-importance, and are easily bought by a pampering dinner with an official (or Middle Eastern tyrant, in the case of MATT DAMON).

And it's a smart move, which will definitely translate to votes from the crowds that follow E! like crack addicts, but can't spell the letter A.
Will it be enough to outweigh the votes of thinking, responsible Americans? We'll soon find out.

    • Sunbeam

He has got charm to fooled………..that;s what he is. It's not about being black or white, that doesn't comes into question. The bottom line is……he's not being loyal to America concerning the affairs he's running at the moment and this might put America on a danger zone if he were to be elected again, which I hope he will not, taking into consideration the background he was from. It is the blood that tends to run to that stream of direction that should be called into question. Not about race or being racist which the left or the enemies would love to pound upon on. This is their distorted twisted lie which we must stand against with.

  • Tarleton

Obama is in the spirit of the times , the American Idol President with a seductive speaking voice , a Hollywoodesque wife , who can even sing and dance …it's a Hollywood coup de ta

I imagine what would have happened if when Ben Shapiro was whisked up into the Tripod on Capping Day, the cap didn't take hold and he grew into someone capable of writing articles that did not reference Hollywood celebrities in every political "analysis."

    • Advocatus

Yo, Schlo, how's the weather in cloud cuckoo land? Do send me a postcard.

      • Schlomotion

I think you just red-lined yourself out of the community of Olympians.

        • tagalog

The Tripod on Capping Day? Ooooo-kay.

        • Western Canadian

And yet another totally moronic post from Shmuckmotion.

Shariamotion, With all your back slapping, you'll dislocate your shoulder.

        • Advocatus

I have? The heart must break, Schlo, the heart must break.

    • Ghostwriter

I have no idea what you're talking about,Schlomotion.

  • flyingtiget

The issue is not that BHO has met any celbrities, it that he thinks they are important. They are not. I like George Clooney as an actor, but do not care who he endorses for an election.

    • Mary Sue

This is why I like Denis Leary.

"Don Henley's going to tell me how to vote? I don't ****ing think so! I've got two words for you Don, Joe ****ing Walsh. Thanks for calling, Don! How long is your ponytail NOW?"

    • http://facebook LauraThompson

I don't even like George Clooney as an actor BECAUSE he has to inject himself into politics. Why do actors think anybody cares what they think, like they are someone important…NOT! I haven't been to the movies in a theater in 8 years so if Clooney has put out any good or bad movies, I'm not interested and really not interested in who he thinks will be a good president. I'm smart enough to think for myself.

    Schlo's at it again.
His English hasn't improved: "would have happened if when" – "if when"??????
    That's not English old boy.
In addition, we still don't know if he's a Hollywood "groupie", or a Guardian (UK) reporter.
Either way, he still spews our nonsense in reams.
Anyone know what "Capping Day" is? (I do.)
It's certainly affected Schlo; his capping was carried out by the democaps – and the results are there for all to see.

    • tagalog

Capping Day – is that something out of Harry Potter?

    • Schlomotion

Ah, a lecture on subjunctive conditionals. How quaint.

      • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLNn2YflwNs Roger

Yes, English as a second language can be tough!
Schlo, keep at it. The composition skills may or may not get better in time.

But your real problem is the stupid you bring here.

        • Western Canadian

Perfect burn dude, love it. Very to the point, and based on his moronic post! Perfect!

Life styles of the famous and fatuous… I love the mention of the Greek Columns… the camera angled up and the soft wedding lighting, the camera pans across people in rapture… I thought… this is even scarier than I had previously thought. To an American told by the media and educators what to think, spoon fed on television and reality shows… he's a God (he must be, the important hollwood people and cnn say so)… which I imagine explains the war on the God we had before. you remember, the one in the book.
Really it all reminded me of movies I had seen in school, back in the day when students were encouraged to think, of pre WWII and communist take over of Eastern Europe… misinformation and a play on the emotions (not the mind) of the population.
They say a people get the government they deserve… my problem is that it is averaged out and I am getting the government the gullible deserve.

Not much new goes on in a Democrat WH. With Clinton it was Lewinsky doing her best. Now it's the likes of Streisand, Angelou, Clooney (I'd had doubts about him, thinking he was AC/DC.. now I know he's just not wired right either, but on Obama??), Beyonce, Hanks (ditto Clooney), Longoria…. the list is Hollywood's "finest". Always wondered how much time they spent on their knees.. but no longer.
Where is Amadinejad when you actually want (need?) him?

  • watsa46

It takes a lot of searching to realize that both sides try to brainwash the masses. We need to look at both sides.
BUT something out of this massive disinformation from both sides is clear:

To be liked by the Muslim world Pr. o is willing to give-up fundamental American rights and make false promises.

And the left not only agrees but supports him!!!

That CAN'T BE. Will the American people allow itself to get SCREWED?

    • Mary Sue

this reminds me of a particularly poignant but crass Dennis Miller routine about how various (many government-related) individuals line up to take turns "******* you in the @**"

  • Ghostwriter

For me,the whole thing seems a little silly.

“More students can afford college, and more families have access to affordable health insurance. Women have greater opportunities to get equal pay for equal work.”

Old Maya is either senile or stupid to pass this rhetoric off.

Affording college is not $1 trillion in debt and education cost increases of 30%.

Affordable healthcare is not a 13% rise in premiums, 15 million people shoved off insurance onto medicaid and government dictatorship to buy insurance .

Ledbetter has nothing to do with equal pay, except you have more time to sue for back wages.

Frankly the Obama’s latching onto hollyweird trash is pretentious and disgusting . The majority of hollyweird are barely high school graduates ,if they aren’t drunks, drug addicts or pedophiles, they have the morals of 3rd rate prostitutes .The only thing they have in common is greed and they make a living off citizens they pretend don’t exist.

    • Mary Sue

To be fair, poor old Maya's been senile forever, including when she was young. Liberalism was a lifelong disease for her.

Some spam email idiot told a joke about some girl giving away kittens, and Mitt Romney comes by asking what party the kittens belong to. The girl says "These are republican kittens!" So Romney promises to come by the next day to get his pick of the litter. The next day the girl announces that they're Democrat kittens. Romney goes "But you told me yesterday they are Republican Kittens." The girl says, "Yes, but now they have their eyes open!" The amount of backwards thinking to justify this as even funny (because in order to be funny it has to have an element of TRUTH otherwise it fails) is mindboggling. Particularly since a person's eyes have to be pretty wide SHUT in order to justify voting Democrat this year.

  • Sunbeam

Can't blame old Maya because Obama is doing everything he can to win the voters to his side. He has got charm and he has got wit. The thing most Americans were ignorant of is will America be safe under his leadership for another four more years. What would be its implication? Can you assure of yourself an answer to this question. Will the Americans be sideline if he were to choose between making decisions on policy either abroad or homeland. We need to ponder on this……..

    • Mary Sue

Well also Maya Angelou is so steeped in the Racial Identity Politics that she'll be bitter and old and Democrat til the day she dies. I think I had to read some of her poems in (Canadian) college. I wasn't impressed. Obama appeals to her because of Identity Politics, and all that other stuff (abortion rights, free birth control, etc,).

  • Len_Powder

Great article Ben as always. It says a lot about Obama that he is impressed with mindless and shallow celebrities like basketball players and Hollywood entertainers, but despises people like Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney, all Republican Senators and Representatives, FOX News, Americans for Prosperity, small business entrepreneurs, people who disagree with him, and voters whom he just can't reach despite flawless logic and facts supporting his monumental accomplishments. Of course no one impresses him more than himself. I have always wondered why, with so much air in his head, and such a wide wing span provided by his ears, why he has never attempted to fly under his own power. He could have saved the taxpayers a lot of money by not utilizing Air Force One so much. Maybe his ears would have melted as he approached the sun? We would all have been better off if he remained a Myth but too many Americans decided to turn him into a real despot in 2008.

  • Eva

Someone, please enlighten the so-called writer and poet Angelou: Martin Luther King was a Republican. That's right, a Republican. Look it up. I am certain he would have been disgusted with the Idiot-in-Chief.
