Romney and the Palestinian Culture of Destruction

Pages: 1 2

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is under attack for speaking an important truth about the Arab-Israeli conflict. At a fundraiser in Jerusalem on Monday, Romney made the obvious, even banal, point about the economic disparity between nations. Speaking of Israel and the Palestinian-run West Bank, Romney said, “Culture makes all the difference.” Rejecting the geographic determinism that claims geography, climate, and species distribution account for the greater power and wealth of the West, Romney added, “you look at Israel and you say you have a hard time suggesting that all of the natural resources on the land could account for all the accomplishment of the people here.” Romney’s point was part of a larger discussion of global economic disparity that he has brought up previously in numerous speeches and in his book No Apology, and that scholars like David Landes and Thomas Sowell have developed in their work.

When it comes to Israel, however, no comment, no matter how sound its scholarly pedigree, that challenges the orthodox narrative favored by the Arabs and their Western shills will be allowed to pass without attack. Saeb Erekat, an aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, responded, “It is a racist statement and this man doesn’t realize that the Palestinian economy cannot reach its potential because there is an Israeli occupation.” Hanan Ashrawi, a Palestinian legislator and official in the Palestine Liberation Organization, claimed the Palestinians “have to build an economy when they have no freedom of movement, no human rights, no fundamental freedoms.” International reporting on the remarks backed up the Palestinian interpretation by citing the “occupation” and “blockade” as the real explanation for why the Palestinians are failing economically.

These reactions are drearily predictable, including the incoherent charge of “racism” against somebody making a cultural argument. More important, once again Palestinian revanchist obsessions, anti-Semitism, and the jihadist death cult are ignored, and the reasons for Israeli defensive measures passed over, while Western materialist obsessions like “racism” “colonialism,” and “national aspirations” are used to explain destructive behavior the origins of which lie in cultural and religious dysfunctions.

Thus if you want to explain Palestinian economic backwardness, start with the Arab rejection of Israel’s legitimacy, one grounded in Islamic doctrine and culture. For all the duplicitous talk of the “two-state solution,” a critical mass of Arabs simply does not recognize Israel’s right to exist. Nor is this rejection a consequence of an “illegal occupation” of an “Arab homeland” by neo-colonialist Jews abetted by Western imperialists. When four Arab armies invaded Israel in 1948, its purpose was not to create a Palestinian nation, something that has no historical reality. Rather, after they destroyed Israel, the aggressor nations planned to carve up among themselves what was left of mandatory Palestine. This rejection of Israel has been a constant over the last 60 years, as historian Efraim Karsh points out: “Had Arafat set the PLO from the start on the path to peace and reconciliation, instead of turning it into one of the most murderous terrorist organizations in modern times, a Palestinian state could have been established in the late 1960s or the early 1970s; in 1979 as a corollary to the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty; by May 1999 as part of the Oslo Process; or at the very latest with the Camp David summit of July 2000.”

The fact is, Israel was and is an abomination to Muslims not because there is no Palestinian state, but because it is a country comprising what Muslims consider dhimmi, a conquered inferior people whose lands and lives are forfeit to Muslims by decree of Allah. Nor does it help that Muslims especially loath Jews, hatred based on the authority of the Koran, Hadiths, and 14 centuries of Islamic theology and jurisprudence. Hence the rank anti-Semitism rampant among Palestinian Arabs, who routinely and publicly indulge invective and genocidal rhetoric redolent of Der Stürmer. The continuing existence in the Middle East of an economically and militarily powerful Israel, populated by despised dhimmi, is a daily humiliation for the peoples who consider themselves the “best of nations” destined to rule the world. Ending the “occupation” or lifting the defensive blockade of Gaza wouldn’t change this irrational, religiously sanctioned hatred.

Well done Mitt Romney you are a breath of fresh air and sanity after the treasonous, gutless and clueless Obama.

The root cause of all the problems the Palestinians face is ISLAM and the "brain numbing" book called the Quran.

As Author, Serge Trifkovic so accurately stated "Islam is a collective psychosis seeking to become global, and any attempt to compromise with such madness is to become part of the madness oneself."

  • Phil

I am becoming more and more impressed with Romney. Perhaps Ann Coulter is correct, and he might be another Reagan. His clarity on the role of culture in civilisational outcome is most welcome.

An excellent book that discusses the inherent civilisational backwardness of the followers of Islam, is “The True Believers” by V S Naipaul. By the way, Indians like Naipaul are among some of our clearest allies in this clash.

    • WildJew

Much of what he said was impressive, you are right. Let us hope he does not walk any of this back – Jerusalem is Israel's capital for example – under pressure like virtually every other U.S. president has.

    • Ageofreason

Just some clarification, Phil. The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements, an excellent book, was written by Eric Hoffer. V. S. Naipaul's book to which you refer is titled Among the Believers: An Islamic Journey.

    • mlcblog

Ann Coulter said that? She's off her Chris Christie kick? I must admit following her less and less these days.

  • WildJew

I would go further than Romney. It was Michele Bachmann who when asked about riots in France by Muslim youths said, "Not all cultures are the same." Often we hear counter-jihadists say, "I haven't any problem with Muslims, it's Islam (or Islamic culture) that is the problem." Don't Muslims embrace Islam? During the nineteen thirties, Winston Churchill told his readers in the Strand, the Germans constituted "the most industrius, tractable (easily led) fierce and martial race in the world." By today's standards, that observation would be controversial. "Racist" even. But there is no indication Churchill thought the German race inferior; just different.

Mr. Thornton wrote: "The reasons for this destructive behavior are obvious. For cultural and religious reasons, the Palestinians who want to destroy Israel outnumber those who want to create a state." Why do the Palestinians embrace this murderous culture and religion in the first instance?

    • Walt

Simple! Because to do otherwise (and not just the Palestinians – all Muslims) automatically calls for their death!

They have NO choice of religion!

in accordance with the covenant sealed on Mount Sinai, a covenant that no other nation
was willing to undertake. After a long exile, we've returned home. We bear no malice toward anyone
and seek no harm to anyone. But we will not surrender any portion of our land to foreign powers,
and if foreigners rise up against us to destroy us, we will fight against them and,
with God's help, we will destroy them."

Wouldn't it be nice if the Israelis were treated with the same respect as they treat arabs in Israel…I have sent donations to organizations in Israel who also help some of the arabs with food, and supplies, who just want to live in peace..thats why they live in Israel and do not want to be part of an Abbas..Hamas…community. Governor Romney did very well in addressing and bringing up this issue..Something we haven't heard from a politician in quite awhile…

    • Kufar Dawg

Wouldn't it be nice if the formerly large Jewish populations had been treated better in the islamofascist states of the Mid-East and N. Africa in which they used to reside? Wouldn't it be nice if the declining, ancient Jewish population of Iranistan weren't being persecuted by the muslo-nazis who run the place now? Hell wouldn't it be nice if ANY muslime state were to stop the state sanctioned, widespread, persecution of people of other faiths?

    • KarshiKhanabad

I'll keep saying it: when six million Arab Muslims are surrounded under deadly threat from three hundred million screaming Jews, then I'll sympathize with the poor put-upon Arabs.

  • crypticguise

There are many reasons why Palestinians are so backward, but they aren't as backward as other Islamic Cultures. Islam is archaic, barbaric, intolerant, and has NEVER created anything positive in Islamic Culture. Most if not all of the historic Islamic "creations" were accomplished by non-Islamic dhimmis in their midst.

Islam implodes when there is no one to steal from and they destroy the dhimmis and kafirs in their midst. So long as they can continue to steal from and be parasitic to other cultures they will procreate, but they are incapable of maintaining a modern, viable civilization. Radical Muslims are destroyers of others creations.

    • HermitLion

Actually, Judea and Samaria Arabs are better off than their Gazan counterparts, due to the Christian Arabs they've been busy kicking out, and trade ties with Israelis – especially the settlers, which everyone loves hating.

Gazans used to be allowed work permits in Israel, until their tendency to stab employers and blow up random places became too much of a liability. Once Hamas took over, they became just as backward as their counterparts in Egypt.

No oil – no riches for muslims; but oh plenty of firearms to engage in Jihad.

  • Ghostwriter

Also, don't forget that most Palestinians have no love of Americans, either. They hate us and want to kill us. That's about it.

    • Kufar Dawg

Weren't the palesimians dancing in the streets on 9-11?

      • KarshiKhanabad

On 9-11 the Palis were dancing, the women were ululating, the men were passing out candy, and foreign cameramen were threatened with death if they continued filming the barbarity.

        Bloody savages!

  • Mark

The Left has seemingly managed to take over most of the educational institutions around the world (not to mention all of the so-called newspapers), and is responsible for perpetuating terror and war coming out of the MEast. Had the European countries and the US called the muslim society in the MEast dysfunctional, as indeed it is to anybody with eyes and something of a brain not addled by drugs and pot, the arabs would've long ago been forced to change or be isolated and cast as a pariah. Mitt Romney called the arab society what it is, and that offends the Left (forget about the arabs-they live in their self-deluded bitterness). Three cheers for Romney and here's praying that he is the next President.

    • boraxo

Somehow liberal universities are responsible for terror coming out of the Middle East?
Gee, you think the US invading Iraq didn't have anything to do with inflaming it?
Do you think the massive sums of money we ship over there for oil don't finance it?
Do you think perhaps the highly conservative House of Saud doesn't contribute to it?
Do you think factionalism within Islam doesn't have something to do with it?
Do you think the historical hatred between Arabs and Jews has something to do with it?
Nah, must be those liberals at Berkeley and Harvard and the Sorbonne, yeah, that must be it.

      • Drakken

        Its islam stupid!

        • boraxo

Then why is Indonesia, a country of 240 million, nearly all of them Muslim, so peaceful?

Yes, much of the Middle East is incredibly dysfunctional. So is Nigeria. Because nations whose economies are based on resource extraction tend to be really, really screwed up. There are very well understood reasons for this, that are rooted in the way an economy profoundly influences a culture.

          • Kufar Dawg

Um, Indonesia committed a genocide of kufars in E. Timor in the 1970's. A genocide that was only stopped by the direct intervention of the Australian military. People of other faiths are routinely persecuted in Indonesia and muslims who renounce islam are sentenced to islamic re-education camps (otherwise known as gulags). Nice try Ahmed, but your Al Taqiyya lies will need a lot more work to fly here.

          • Drakken

Obviously your not up on current events there Sparky, ask the religious minorities how things are going.

  • boraxo

I'm sure Israel's economic success has nothing to do with billions in aid from the US every year. And the Palestinians' economic troubles have nothing to do with the embargo the Israelis enforce. Nope, its all bootstrappyness by those hard working Israelis, yesiree.

    • Kufar Dawg

Um, how much free US foreign aid to the Palesites get and what, exactly, do they do w/the money?

BTW, who is responsible for the unilateral firing of over TEN THOUSAND rocket and mortar rounds into Israel
over the last 8 years Ahmed? Djinns?

      • boraxo

Tell me Moshe, which number is bigger: Israelis killed by Palestinians, or Palestinians killed by Israelis? The Christian Phalangists killed more at Sabra-Shatila than all of those "TEN THOUSAND" rocket and mortar rounds have, by a couple of orders of magnitude.

And for bonus points: In the following list of the 20th century's greatest mass murderers, how many are Muslim? Hitler, Stain, Mao, Pol Pot

        • Zionista

dumbo – most Israelis survive the almost daily onslaught of rockets because both Israelis themselves and the gov't invest $ in things that keep them alive. Just about every Israeli home has a bomb shelter. Does yours dummy? Do you need to protect yourself from terrorism like Israelis (Jewish and non Jewish) must do? And the corrupt PA does not spend a dime to protect their fellow arabs. Besides, when the Israelis respond, the arabs love it when some arabs get killed – great propaganda – and they love death so it's win-win for them.

        • Kufar Dawg

          Muslimes have committed genocides in:

          i. Armenia/Turkey (early 20th century: some 2.5 million Armenian and Assyrian Christians killed by muslimes)
ii. Sudan/Darfur (late 20th century: a million or more assorted kufars/infidels slaughtered by muslimes)
iii. E. Timor (1970's: tens of thousands of assorted kufars/infidels slaughtered by muslimes)
iv. Bangladesh (1970's: between 2.5 and 3 million Hindus slaughtered by muslimes, thousands of
          Hindu women raped by muslimes)

Your Al Taqiyya lies need a lot more work Abdullah.

          • boraxo

Did I say Muslims don't commit genocide? Nope. I said, being Muslim wasn't the root cause of such violent behavior. Again, who has killed in bigger numbers: Israelis killing Palestinians, or the reverse? In, say, the last ten years? But you wouldn't argue (and neither would I) that religion is why the Israelis committed that violence. Somehow, in your prejudiced brain, that street only runs one way.

Correlation. Causation. Those aren't synonyms, Moshe. And white knight 'em all you want, that cute little Jewish girl down the street still isn't going to sleep with you.

          • ziontruth

"I said, being Muslim wasn't the root cause of such violent behavior."

Then you're flat-out wrong. Islam is imperialism, just like Nazism was.

And there are no true Palestinians but the Jews. Arab settler-colonist land-grabbing invaders illegally occupying Jewish soil, out! Out! OUT!!!!!!!!!

        • Drakken

I am a firm believer in disaportionate response, fire a rocket, I drop a MOAB and if more of yours are killed? So much the better, silly little liberal/progressives have no idea what and how war is waged.

          • boraxo

How did the UK solve their problem with Irish terorists? Silly conservatives, they don't know that the goal of war is to acheive peace.

    • Mike Giles

The west gives the Palestinians billions in aid every year, just as it gives billions to Egypt. Care to explain why they aren't as economically advanced as the Israelis?

      • boraxo

Wrong. The US has given a total of $4 billion in aid to the Palestinians since the mid-90s.
        Source: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/US-Is
Meanwhile, the US gives $3 billion a year in aid to Israel.
Then there is the Israeli embargo of the West Bank, which might have something to do with it.

        • Drakken

You kinda sorta forgot to mention how much the Euros and private charities have paid in jihza to the those savages.

  • Taimy

Romney is another a hole who is going to cause more hatred against America across the world. America is the leading terrorist state of the world (Noam Chomsky) and Israel is its poodle in the Middle East. Israeli occupation is the cause of this whole mess in Middle east. America needs to pull out of its terroristic wars and force its poodle in the ME to agree to a two state settlement. This is the only viable solution from American point of view. However, some interests and some idiots stand in the way – and they are in huge numbers!

    • Drakken

Anyone who quotes that commi antiwestern muslim loving pos Chomsky and sides with the muslims over our western ally Israel is an enemy of us all.

      • Taimy

Quite an emotional talk you can give – but devoid of substance.

America poses the biggest threat to world peace with its attempt to suck the resources of the world. Stop concocting enemies.

        • Zionista

only ultra left useful idiots find chomsky relevant – I guess you're an idiot

        • KarshiKhanabad

Taimy, a new civil war is coming to the U.S. Think about it.

          • moll

Somebody needs to track down "taimy's" IPO and then begin the process of deporting him back to the country from whence he originates. He needs to have a new "life experience" of living in a country dominated by Islam, the Quran and living under Shariah Law. Maybe he'll change his tune at that point. Calling the current president-nominee names is a dead give-away of "hard-left of center liberal GOAT" politics. The rantings of a person who has no plan but just to "hate".

  • Taimy

The land of Palestine belongs to the people who lived there, and not European, Russian and African settlers. It is a favor if Palestinians agree to share this land with those settlers.

    • Drakken

Sorry you commi pos, the arabs lost the wars they started so to the victors go the spoils.

      • Taimy

So you are applying the rule of the jungle?

        • Taimy

And then say they talk about "superior" Israeli culture – lol!

        • Kufar Dawg

          And muslimes don't? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

        • HermitLion

You are applying a selective rule of the jungle.
          Conquest by muslims – good.
          Liberation from muslims – bad.

And they talk about "superior" leftist culture – lol!

        • Drakken

I am applying the rules of warfare period, instead of giving Gaza a taste of Carthage we are trying to appease the savages in the hopes they will gve peace when every bloody day they demonstrate they don't.

    • Walt

The first thing YOU have to understand is that there is no such thing as a "land of Palestine", and never has been!

    • ziontruth

The land of Palestine belongs to the only people who have an inherent connection to it—the Jews. Not to Arab settler-colonist land-grabbers whose claim is like that of dogs who have boarded an empty stable.

The tenth generation of dogs born in a stable are still dogs and not horses. The Jewish absence from their one and only land, the Land of Israel a.k.a. Palestine, has never been meant to be anything but temporary. Members of the Arab nation will have to content themselves with the 21 states they already have.

  • Fred R.

Taimy, read a valid history book on the Middle East. Jews have lived in Palestine (Judea and Samaria) far longer than Muslims. Zionism is a national liberation movement and Jews have finally liberated THEIR land. The U.S. sends Israel about three billion a year to buy American weapon systems. We send Egypt two billion a year for the same purpose. This was part of the 1979, peace agreement between the two countries. Israel got the short end of the stick because it gave the Sinai (a land mass two times the size of Israel) back to the ungrateful Egyptians.

    Fred R.

    • Kufar Dawg

Israel did get a peace treaty w/Egypt out of it. I don't know if it was worth it though.

      • HermitLion

It got a peace treaty with Sadat, not Egypt. Now that Sadat and his successor, Mubarak, are gone, this treaty is worth less than a tablecloth made of dust.

  • Taimy

Fred, it's not about Muslims or Jews. It's about people that were living in that land when SETTLERS from Europe, Russia, and Africa started arriving under British Empire. There was no liberation, but occupation under the umbrella of an EMPIRE – an imperialist force, Britain. They tried to dump their "Jewish problem" on the Arabs. It's that simple. That's history.

    • Kufar Dawg

      Islam, the Arab Imperialism.

    • ziontruth

No settlers in Palestine but Arab settlers. Jews are the indigenous Palestinians. Arab settler-colonists out of Palestine for the sake of a just and viable peace! Arab settlers, stop killing peace! Arab settlers out!!!!!!!!!

  • Taimy

Fred, how about Native Americans throwing out Americans of European descent since the former orignally inhabited America? Would you agree to move? Then why you have double standards? Whatever the makeup of the land was, it should have remained as it is. Creation of a nation through settlers based on some religious nonsense is the root cause of this problem. The only solution now is for Israel to accept two state settlement, otherwise, it is paving the way for its own destruction. The Palestinians are going no where, and eventually the Arabs will overwhelm Israel demographically.

    • Kufar Dawg

How about Europeons throwing out all your muslime brethren from Europe? There were Jews in Israel-Judah
long before Muhammad was even born.

    • Lucia

See, this is the difference: Native Americans don't blow themselves up and don't try to destroy America. They understood that the colonists made them suffer in the past but they also understand and appreciate the powerful culture and civilization they brought to America. Today, Native Americans have equal freedoms and chances and they learned how to live together without killing each other on a daily basis.

  • Taimy

Speaking of “a valid history book” on the region, what is the one that you have read? Note that hoaxes like the “From The Times Immemorial” of Jones Peters have been fully exposed.

    • Radegunda

Oh, and who “exposed” “Jones” [sic] Peters as a hoax? The same Islamic “scholars” who idiotically claim that Abraham and Jesus were Muslims, and that everybody on earth is born a Muslim? The same Islamic authorities who claim that Allah commanded them to conquer the whole earth?

Plenty of histories and chronicles going back many centuries, by Muslims and by the many people they have attacked, make the facts abundantly clear: Islam is a highly aggressive, hateful, brutal ideology of conquest. Muslims believe that every corner of the earth should be under the jackboot of Islam.

They hate Israel with particular virulence because Jews were the first people who refused to bow down to the marauding Arab barbarians. And because Jews made the desert bloom, which the Arabs never even tried to do.

      • KarshiKhanabad

Taimy's problem is that both Israel and America are here to stay, and all the homicide bombings, hijackings, murders of "infidels", and victory mosques and any other savagery the Muslim world can hurl won't do anything to change that.

  • Nannette

that’s a point of view taking into account purely the Israel -Arab conflict. But that’s reducing the entire problem.

All other Arab (Muslim) countries are not in conflict with Israel, not “occupied”, and still they live from their natural resources and produce little to nothing else. Somer of them make zillion of dollars of revenue which gets mostly diverted, if not bluntly stolen, by their ruling classes. And it’s not a purely Arab (Muslim) problem. Kongo is not a Muslim country …. The problem is thus cultural and political. It’s not genetic.

Thousand plus years ago certain Islam knew how to learn from others. Today it doesn’t. 1000+ years ago their people were contributing to the progress of mankind. Today not. 1000+ years ago Islam built architecture of Andalusie, today in the Gulf Western enterprises build Western architecture paid by money West pays them for their oil. Not their products. Not their innovations. They should try to answer the question “why” and that may help them to advance.

Maybe they’ll realize that progress comes with freedom. Freedom of mind. Which florishes more in free democratic societies than in those where minds are chained with prejudice and religious constrains. Religious doesn’t mean necessarily only Islam. Communism yielded the same. Conquering doesn’t build, doesn’t create progress. Vandals conquered Rome but what did they left to the mankind?

Therefore I believe that would there be no Jews in Israel, only Muslims Arabs, the problem would be the same. They would live in misery till some Western oil companies would find for them oil or gas. Because what makes the difference between the opulent Saudi Arabia and miserable Yemen? Oil.

  • Amused

Following Taimey 's logic , There should be NO ARABS or MUSLIMS on the land of Israel , for the Jews were there BEFORE Arabs left the Arabian Peninsula ,and Before Islam was invented . Historically ,even 2 millenia before , preceeding the Roman Empire and after the Diaspora initiated by the Romans , the land was NEVER devoid of Jews , they have always had a remnant and presence there for 3 millenia . The Babylonians were from present day Iraq ,Hittites from Syria , Cannanites are extinct and have been for atleast 3 millenia , the Romans have left , the Turks and their occupying "Empire " have been driven out since the end of WW1, and no , the Phillistines were not the predecessors of those who call themselves Palestinians , nor where the Phoenicians . Neither Lebanon nor Egypt have any claim to the land , nor does the "created "State of Jordan . The JEWS were on the land FIRST , and the Historical , Archaeological and Anthropological evidence undeniably confirms this as FACT .

  • Amused

The almost exclusively arab muslim -held myth that European Jews were not really jews ata all but Khazar converts and "Taimy's " American Indian bit , are two common routines employed by muslims and arabs to make their case that Israel should be destroyed OR that somehow the Palestinians are anything other than squatters on the land – and that their violence against jews is justified by history . Well the history contradicts those notions , and the Khazar myth patently proven false by geneology and DNA .European Jews as a whole are descended from the original Jews of Israel /Judea and Samaria .
Btw – " Taimy " if you are gonna pretend to be a good ole' American Gal , the spelling is T-A-M-M-Y , you know as in Wynette .

If everything is predetermined by Allah and the Arabs lost every war they fought against Israel, why don’t they get the message that Allah favors Israel?

Romney's observations that the poverty in Palestine is a cultural problem follows Churchill's statement in his book "The River War: An Account of the Reconquest of Sudan." He wrote "How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the follows of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property – either as a child, a wife, or a concubine – must delay the final extinction of slavery unil the fith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men."

Under Islam women are like slaves – so yes Mr. Romney you are correct!
