The Real Point of the Left’s Uproar over Limbaugh

Pages: 1 2

Rush Limbaugh has got the progressives pitching a fit over some remarks on his radio show about a Georgetown University law student named Sandra Fluke. Fluke had made the preposterous claim, while addressing House Democrats over President Obama’s rule forcing Catholic institutions to pay for contraception, that the cost of birth control was prohibitive for Georgetown law students. Limbaugh responded by calling Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute”  who is “having so much sex, she can’t afford the contraception; she wants you and me – the taxpayers – to pay her.”

Progressive dudgeon hit the stratosphere. Democrat Representative Louise Slaughter wrote a letter that decried Limbaugh’s “sexually charged, patently offensive, and obscene language” and “atrocious and hurtful words.” MSNB’s Jonathan Capehart called the comments “hateful” and “rude,” and said they were “low” even for Limbaugh. Democrat “strategist” Krystal Ball (sic) called Limbaugh “despicable,” “disgusting,” and a “loathsome individual.” The Washington Post’s Jamila Bey called the remarks “hate speech” and claimed they “crossed into the realm of sexual harassment.” The president of Georgetown said the remarks were “misogynistic, vitriolic, and a misrepresentation of the position of our student.”

And in the midst of crisis in the Middle East and the ticking entitlement time bomb, President Obama found time personally to call Fluke and deplore Limbaugh’s “inappropriate personal attacks.” Following the loss of some advertisers, Limbaugh apologized for what he called his “attempt to be humorous.”

I’m not interested in Limbaugh’s comments or whether or not they are “appropriate.” When you enter the political kitchen, as Fluke did, you should be ready to get scorched. As always, more interesting is the reaction to the comments. And that reaction once again reveals the monstrous hypocrisy of progressives. The folks who proclaim their sensitivity, nuanced thinking, therapeutic concern for the tender sensibilities of others, and open-mindedness have always been the most vicious, bigoted, narrow-minded, crude, dogmatic, conformist people on the planet. Take everybody’s exhibit number one, the HBO blowhard Bill Maher, who’s on record calling Sarah Palin a “c—t” and inviting Jon Huntsman to “suck my d—k.” I don’t remember the President calling Palin or Hunstman to regret “that our political discourse has become debased,” as his flack Jay Carney put it. Nor is anyone demanding that Obama-supporting superpac Priorities USA Action should return the million bucks Maher gave it. Why should they? Remember when Obama called the Tea Party folks “tea-baggers,” a vulgar sexual term? “Appropriate” and “debased” are in the eye of the progressive beholder, and depend on the ideology of whoever is being attacked.

Of course, in the progressive hysteria we are also subjected to the “chilling free speech” charge, as when Fluke on the Today Show Friday said that Limbaugh’s comments were an “attempt to silence me.” She apparently doesn’t think that her threat to sue Limbaugh––the left’s favorite WMD when it comes to destroying free speech–– might be an attempt to silence him. In fact, rather than “silencing” her, Limbaugh’s comments have given an obscure law student the biggest platform on the planet, at the same time Limbaugh’s apology suggests that it is his free speech that’s been “chilled.” And are the media so dumb that they don’t see the absurdity of a guest on the Today Show claiming to its 5.6 million viewers that someone tried to “silence” her?

More important than occasioning a display of progressive hypocrisy is Fluke’s claim that law students at a prestigious private school can’t afford birth control. If Fluke could produce one of her colleagues who doesn’t have an I-phone, an I-pad, an I-pod, a high-speed internet connection, or cable television; who doesn’t spend $20 a week at Starbucks, or has to eat ramen every night, or never takes a vacation, never eats out, never goes to bars or concerts; or who has parents on welfare who can’t contribute to her education, or works part-time at a burger joint, or has any other characteristics of someone so poor she can’t budget for birth control pills, then maybe she’d have a point. But even then, condoms are available for free at numerous clinics and even at some retail stores. And God forbid we should suggest that the young lady just say no.

The cost of birth control, though, is just a smokescreen. More pernicious is the assumption that, as Fluke puts it, “This is about women’s health.” In other words, unplanned pregnancy is a disease, something that like breast cancer just sort of happens to a woman, and for which she bears no responsibility. That’s how House minority leader Nancy Pelosi sees it. Speaking of the failed Senate amendment to allow religious organizations not to fund contraception, Pelosi said that the measure was “part of the Republican agenda of disrespecting women’s health issues [by] allowing employers to cut … basic health services for women, like contraception, mammograms, prenatal and cervical-cancer screenings.”

    Very pointed essay, Mr. Thornton.

"Rush calls a 21-year-old woman on his show a slut, and a prostitute."

In watching this political dog and pony show, I asked myself if the liberals who are railing against Rush are against p0rn0graphy or if they railed against p0rn producers and consumers as they are railing against Rush. The answer is obviously no.

Millions of people call women sluts and prostitutes through p0rn every day, and, as you know, a lot worse. On top of it, they all think that sexually degrading people (not only women) through p0rn0graphy is great.

I don't see anyone with a liberal mindset complaining about it. I don't see all the liberal flookies who are speaking as if they were respectful prudes about sexuality complaining about p0rn0graphy .

Why is it that when liberals call women sluts, the b-word, the c-word, and spend millions of hours fantasizing how they are going to degrade, whip, and rape them in p0rn0graphy, it is all OK according to liberals? But when Rush calls a sorry, Gen Yer self-entitlement twit, a politically planted Democrat shill a slut, it is, all of a sudden, not OK?

If you call all black people niggers it's OK, but if you call one specific individual a nigger it's not OK?

Only liberal refuse to face how deformed their minds about about sexuality. I don't think it is possible for people who endorse and/or stay silent about the sexually deformed discourse in pornography to be more hypocritical when they criticize Rush.

After all, he only did in public what they do in private a million times a day.

Who is the greatest affront to decency?

  • Rocky Mountain

"…sexual pleasure is the honey that sweetens the bitter poison of diminished freedom.." Nice line.

I’ll bet Ole Hound-dog Bill Clinton will be having one-on-one times with her. She better learn to swallow quickly or carry a towel with her.

Damn, that's rich! I've just had a eureka moment regarding the longstanding puzzle of all the prudish and frumpy small-time leftists in the world who both advocate for, as well as secretly judge, the licentiousness – real or imagined – of others.

  • Gunner57

Rush should have never apologized to that immoral leftist political hack. He could have simply said that he should not have used such coarse language while addressing his listening audience.which is comprised of fine decent people unlike Fluke, Obama and the rest of those who comprise Democrat party.

He should have then asked for an apology from the foul Obama for using the lewd and vulger term 'tea bagger' as a way of referring to me and my fellow patriots.

    • http://apollospaeks.blogtownhall.com/ ApolloSpeaks

I feel like I've been royally fluked over. Never again will I listen to Rush on the weekends.

      • Doyle

Why should Rush care that you won't be listening? He was right. The girl is a slut, paying her way through college on her back. It was never about the contraception, or cost of same. It was about forcing a Catholic college, and by association the Catholic church, to pass out contraception. Forcing a religious institution to buckle under the pressure and accept the hell-bound Liberal dogma.

      • Doyle

Ah who cares what you will or will not do?

    • old white guy

i also have a word for someone who uses 3000 dollars worth of contraception over three years. one person pointed out that 3k would buy 2.7 condoms a day. i sure wish i had a girlfriend who was that sexually active with me only.

      • Jame Wonneck

But why do you even begin to think that she is talking about condoms. At best you are misunderstanding the debate and at worst fantasizing.

      • DeepBreathPeople

I like that the old white guy doesn't know how contraception works.

        Wow.

      • Todd Beaucoudray

Dirty old white man, you don't take a birth control pill every time you have sex. The pill can also be used to help alleviate female troubles that have nothing to do with getting pregnant. Like many medications, it has multiple usages.

    • painter657

You rightwing morons do not get it. When your arguments are flawed you resort to name calling. you are the ones that should apologize for being alive.

      • Martel64

It's always THE LEFT that resort to the name calling and cheap slander when their arguments are flawed – Rush admitted to "Lowering himself to THEIR( The Left's ) level" in calling Fluke a slut, and apologized. Now….when will The LEFT ever apologize for their cheap name-calling and slander?( Mr Maher…..? Mr. Schultz……..? Mr. Malloy……..? Mssssssss. Garofalo….? "Mr." Olbermann……..? )

  • WildJew

What I want to know is this. (Catholics I know wonder the same thing.) Why doesn't the Church demand radical proponents of abortion on demand like Nancy Pelosi either change her / their ways and her voting record on life or be excommunicated? Why does the Church tolerate these insidious Catholic lawmakers who thumb their nose at the pro-innocent human life teachings of the Church? What kind of message does it send (especially to our young people) when evil people like Pelosi can take Communion?

    • southwood

One might just as well ask: why does the "Church" (you may call it one; I don't) appear to condemn homosexuality while at the same time covering up and/or simply moving sodomising priests to another parish.

      • WildJew

On a personal / individual basis, I have known fine Catholics. Many Catholics support Israel, no thanks to the Vatican or the Bishops. You are not going to see me defend the Vatican. Over the centuries the Vatican has been at war with my people. Were it not for anti-Jewish church teaching from the pulpit for centuries, scholars say the Holocaust would have been inconceivable. Even today the Vatican is at enmity with Israel. Vatican sides with Israel's enemies. That having been said, I support the Catholic church's right to freedom of conscience. I do not think Obama should force Catholics to violate their conscience as he is doing. I expect nothing in return from Archbishop Timothy Dolan or the Vatican.

        • southwood

Yes, some of them are decent people but their "Church" is corrupt. You are obviously a clued up Jew who doesn't buy that nonsense about Pius XII being a savior of the Jews in WWII. The Vatican is at heart pro-Palestinian I believe. Wasn't Arafat good pals with the late Pope ?

But, yes, you are right, Obama should not force anyone to violate their conscience.

        • johnnywoods

According to the Constitution Obummer can not force the Catholic church to do anything.

    • Todd Beaucoudray

They'd excommunicate a lot of their own members if birth control were such an offense.

  • davarino

I was wandering when Rush was going to do something like this. Its free PR whenever the left takes the bait and has an aneurysm. They left him alone for a long time because that is what gave him higher rating but I guess he touched a nerve hehehe.

    Mega ditos Rush

    • old white guy

the true test will be how his audience share will hold up. that is the only poll that will count. advertisers will flock to the person who has the highest number of listeners. dittos.

    • Snow White

Rush always comes out on top. Rush's listeners will boycot those sponsors who caved to the pressure and they will lose more than they will gain from this stupidity. Remember that letter all those political hacks signed trying to get his network to drop his show? You remember that letter. Rush sold it on EBay for over $2 million.

      • Supreme_Galooty

Not only that, he matched the proceeds and donated over FOUR million dollars to charity.

        • griff1123

When he tells all of the listeners and the media matters folks just WHO this person really is the proverbial S–T will hit the fan right in Obambi's face. BTW how did He know what the term "tea bagger " meant??
          Hiding something Obambi??

  • Bob Thompson

Rush's mistake was in his use f the word 'slut'. A more appropriate word (according to Webster's
Dictionary) would have been 'whore' As in, it sounds like she 'whored her way thru law school. Since her moral code (somebody else paying) so she doesn't have to be responsible, doesn't speak well for the Georgetown law schools' attempt (if any) at character building. I wouldn't let her defend me on a parking ticket violation

  • Eric G

Exactly…this is a personal matter….not a "health" issue like a car accident or a rattlesnake bite. The leftist is deluded by the promise of the Nanny State to keep delivering whatever he/she wants. The Nanny State has become a sort of secular Santa Claus.

    • trickyblain

Getting cervical cancer is a hobby?

      • Eric G

Yes, you're very astute. Ms Fluke is fighting for the government to pay for her cervical cancer because she can't afford cervical cancer herself.

        • trickyblain

At least be honest (unlike Rush). Fluke's testimony dealth specifically with a friend who had her ovaries removed. Birth control pills may have helped prevent the cancer. Fluke's argument had nothing to do with sex, yet Rush and his dittoheads made it soley about sex. Repressed weirdos.

          • Supreme_Galooty

Hey, Twicky Blain! I pray that in your new life (after Obama) you can rise to the level of buffoonery.

  • DWPittelli

Rush was an idiot, handing ammunition to his (and conservatism’s) enemies. He has also made this woman’s career — we will be seeing much more of Sandra Fluke, now — so ironically, she should be thanking him, while he should also be apologizing to all conservatives for his incredibly stupid own-goal.

This latest controversy has for many people moved the debate from whether the Catholic church has conscience rights, to the merits of birth control per se. This may, in a close race, even tip the general election to Obama, especially, but not only, if Santorum is the nominee.

A reasoned criticism would be for Rush to have pointed out that everyone can get effective birth control for under $200 a year, that Ms. Fluke is dishonest when she speaks of $1,000 per year costs, except for people relying on condoms, paying full retail, and using 3 a day. And that people going to Georgetown can probably afford that, and in any case, that Catholic institution should be under no more obligation to subsidize that right than any other employer should be to buy me a gun every year because I have a 2nd-Amendment-guaranteed right to keep arms.

    • WildJew

I hope you are wrong about Americans giving Obama another four years. It will prove devastating for this nation. I have no problem with Santorum being influenced by his faith where its teachings are moral and ethical. Most people of faith are influenced by their religious beliefs. He needs to be careful when he projects the teachings of his church as though they are universal teachings, accepted by all faiths. Santorum often refers to our "Judeo-Christian" values, yet there are some differences between the teachings of his church and the teachings found in the Torah. The death penalty for murder for example. A mass-murderer is not innocent like an unborn child. I cannot say Moses taught that "every action which….to render(s) procreation impossible is intrinsically evil." (The fecundity of marriage)

    • Questions

You're right. Rush gave this woman free publicity.

    • http://www.themadjewess.wordpress.com MAD JEWESS

      Rush did no such thing.
Ed Shultz called Ingraham a 'right wing slut', the left said zero.
      He apologized, life went on.
Now, the left wants to force the FCC to get Rush off the air.

When are people going to GET that we ARE in a war with a bunch of dangerous dupes?
The left threw out the rule book on how to be nice long ago.
We need to lose the rules, because they, like Islamic Jihadists will cut off our heads, regardless.

We are supposed to be PROTECTED with the 1st Amendment right of free speech.

    • Supreme_Galooty

Snr(a) Pittelli, please try not to be so obviously obtuse. Firstly, there IS no "this debate." 98% of those who vote were/are tuned in to American Idol and will wonder what the hell? you are talking about. Secondly, for those who pay attention, "this debate" has shifted to an examination of Gimmy Politics. Additionally, a "reasoned" criticism would have fallen flat in the forest inhabited only by Plutatarians.

"If a man speaks in the forest and no one can hear him, is he still wrong?" – D.W. Brookfield

It was only a matter of time before Limbaugh did something like this . And uh …….it's not just a matter of the left , who btw , will gain traction against such idiots of Limbaughs stripe . LOL….anyone who's ever got a lesson on "the birds and the bees " knows that most present day birth control methods ,are based on daily systems of taking a pill .So in the rudimentary and primitive mind of Limbaugh , that translates to "slut " /"prostitute " …lol….btw Davarino ,I agree , great pr ploy , but in actuality what Limbaugh has now accomplishe , is to put Repo/Cons uip against the wall , where the women of tghe US , both parties and everything in between will be taking pot shots at the Republican candidates .

  • kafirman

In more direct prose, the issue here is the word "slut" being hurdled at a (leftist) slut.

Leftist Ed Shultz called a right-wing LADY Laura Ingraham (read, non-slut) a slut, and Carbonite (who's CEO, David Friend, is an Obama donor) raised no qualm with Ed.

Leftist do not call leftists sluts, "sluts." Sluthood is not broached for leftists. Leftist are incapable of saying to their own daughters, "Do not be a slut. Being slutty is self-destructive."

And that is the real leftist outrage here. Do not call our sluts, "sluts." And of course, do not mock the prophet.

  • kafirman

The real issue here is the leftist outrage at right wingers identifying sl*ts in leftist ranks.

Leftists deny the very concept of stigmatizing (leftist) sexual consensual activity. Adult consensual sex is the hollowed ground of the left. They are unable to tell their daughters not to be a sl*t.

"A lot of folks have been asking why Carbonite would choose to pull its ads from Rush Limbaugh’s show for referring to activist Sandra Fluke as a “sl*t” but they still advertise on Ed Schultz’s show after he referred to Laura Ingraham the same way. I wonder if the fact that Carbonite’s CEO, David Friend, is an Obama donor has anything to do with it? From Open Secrets:"

    "Do not

    • Questions

How do you know what this young woman's habits were/are? And what is so wonderful about stigma, especially when enforced? Do you think that the Christian or Jewish version of this is all that much of an improvement over the Muslim version? A little better, but not by much.

    • trickyblain

You might have a point – if Fluke's testimoy was about sex. But since it was about using pills to prevent cervical cancer, you don't. You may want to tell Rush — the illegal Viagra popping sex tourist — how consensual sex among adults is so bad.

      • kafirman

Fluke's testimony was about sex. She wants us to pay for her contraceptives.

You';re right davarino ….great PR ploy for Rush . And since "Rush " is considered by most people to be the mouthpiece of the Republican party , how do you think this will play ?

    • voslucky

The left can not have it both ways regarding Rush Limbaugh. On the one hand the laft says ignore him – he is ONLY an entertainer. THEN the left will turn around and claim Rush is the spokesman for the republican party! So which is it? Nobody is forced to listen to Rush so I see no reason why liberal get in such a snit about his monologs,

I’m watching the talk shows and seeing the spin even in this article that gets caught up on the side issues. The framers on one side make it about “women’s health” while on the other side they make it about the government imposing upon religious beliefs. I don’t hear much at all about the initial and very viable argument of the government trampling on the 10th amendment which limits the power of the Federal Government to those explicit in the Constitution. Notwithstanding is the Commerce Clause and the power struggle between States and the Federal Government. How is the fact that we are being FORCED into buying something simply because we draw breath ok with folks? The other argument of the religious issue can be overcome even if just on paper (you see the Administration attempting this as we speak). THAT should not be where our fight is but rather on the subversion of the Constitution. A poor comparison is pointed to when we have to buy Auto Insurance. My answer is you have a choice to drive or not. You have no choice to breathe or not.

    • Amused

And more importantly, her testimony wasn't about sex.

  • mrbean

Here is the ultimate putdown that should have been used on Miss Fluke when she testified.

ANY CONGRESSMAN: "Are you aware Miss Fluke that for $4 that Walmart Pharmacy (and some others) offers a month's supply and for $10 they offer a 3 months supply for most of the populat brands of birth control pills? Couldn't you just skip one lunch once every 90 days and buy your own birth control pills rather than ask the governent to finance your sex life?"

    • dos

Since Fluke supports Obamacare, she must look for the cost offerd from that care (obama must tell her about the cost when he called). The 3k cost per year is so cheap when all government overheads are factored in.

  • Amused

Did you know that for $4 a woman can buy a 30 day supply and for $10 she can buy a 90 day supply of most of the poplular brands of birth control pills from Walmart ( and some others). Tell her to skip lunch once every 90 days. The governments (our taxes) cost o supply her entertatinment drugs is probably is around $100 – at least 10 times that of Walmart.

Really, she should charge her “clients” at least enough to cover the cost of BC, but being an anti-capitalist, she hasn’t grasped that complex economic theory yet.

But YOU ARE a brain-dead die-hard lefty. How'd you even know how the so-called independents look at this spectacle?

Our country has always been polarized and hateful speech has been directed at the opposition from the very beginning of the republic. I changed the title of my blog on the subject because my first comment was deleted by the administrator owing to the obscene title (reproducing Rush's slur), so go to my homepage if you want to see my recipe for a more productive style of communication in public space. Keep talking, Rush! You'll have Obama elected in a landslide!

  • mrbean

A 13-year-old boy who police say was doused with gasoline and lit on fire last week while walking home from school is recovering from first-degree burns to his face and head. The boy was just two blocks from his home in Kansas City Tuesday when two teenagers began to follow him and then attacked him, his mother, Melissa Coon, said. Police have described the suspects as BLACK16-year-olds, while the victim is WHITE.

Dah Prez Obama sho' din't call dah white boy momma cause dah 16 year old n&*glets fum dah hood beez bruthas, yassah, but dah Fluke hinkay wimmin beez a liberal hottie and maybe even a Kardasian wigger, yonowatahmsayin… (smacking lips rapidly mettt….metttt…mettt).

You sounded almost reasonable there, mrbean. A shame you had to ruin it with your “Amos n’ Andy” routine. It’s people like you that are the reason why conservatives are called “racists.”

    • DeepBreathPeople

Shocking that independents are getting turned off by the state of Conservatism in this country.

    • mlcblog

I am still shocked to learn that Law students even have the time for sex. I thought they were very busy. I normally do not listen to Rush. I find him boring, sorry. He was on target this time. After seeing Ms. Fluke, I would be willing to pay to see her sex videos. I think she would have more success in the XXX rated industry than as a lawyer.

    • rolf

They have plenty of time for sex when they are 30 yr old professional students studying human sexuality, women, sex and the law,sex slaves and sex workers.

Look up Fluke's record. She's been a birth control, abortion and women's rights activist for years.
She always wants sex change operations government funded.

    • DeepBreathPeople

Are you also willing to pay for ovarian cancer treatments?

  • Kathleen3

Great article. However, I would add that there is one more goal of the Obama/Progressive/Radical minions and that is to silence any and every Conservative media host, as well as the millions of Americans who listen to them. What better way to do this than to appeal to the all too naive female voters who have yet to realize they are serving as useful idiots for Obama, Axelrod, Van Jones, and George Soros.

    • DeepBreathPeople

You kidding me? This Rush thing was the best thing that could have happened to Obama/Progressives on this issue.

  • crazycatkid

It's "duct tape" not "duck tape!"

  • Kathleen

The real tragedy here is that there are so many young people who have such little regard or respect for their own selves and that there are so many liberals who condone and see nothing wrong with young people who have such low opinions of themselves. This may very well have been orchestated by such librals. How did this one young women get such an invitation in the first place. Obama and his mcronies will stop at nothing to demean any conservative. Doesn't this tell us something about this regime. .

    • Tacitus

The young people are taught this from kindergarten on up, Kathleen. The regime is just the tip of the spear, not the driver.

    • mlcblog

Exactly!! how did she get an invitation in the first place??!

When I was involved with organizing on the left (thank God I saw the light and changed) I observed things and tactics that let me KNOW she is a finely selected plant.

  • TG Browning

    Mr. Bean.

Not to be funny or anything, but do you come up with all of the stuff you post by yourself? Or do you have help? I’m hoping it’s the latter and not the former. More than one person saying stuff as odd, tactless and patently absurd is not a pleasant thought.

    Browning>>>

    • trickblain

The really stupid stuff, he comes up with. The stuff that sounds semi-literate is usually plagerized from another website. Been doing it for years and, for unknown reasons, is very impressed with himself .

      • TG Browning

Really. Amazing. Keeps him off the streets anyway….

  • RoguePatriot6

Wow!!! Bruce Thorton put some rounds through the X ring on this one. He tells it like it is and points out the obvious hostility towards those who call out the irresponsibility of those who want to benefit from sex but don't want to accept the responsibility of it. He also points out how certain things that were the personal responsibility of the citizen in a Constititutuional Republic has now become rights.
Liberals hate the fundamental values and beliefs that formed this nation so they lie, twist the truth and history into what they want it to say or look like. This makes them liars and delusional. When they gain alot of influence and power it makes them dangerous.
Rush was 100% steel on target and at most he should apologize for the way he conveyed his message eventhough his message was straight through the bullseye. This isn't even about Christianity in the very strong sense it's simply about government seeking power to intrude more into the rights of individuals who are opposed to something. This is about individual responsibility and myself and other tax payers paying for the irresponsibility of others.

  • RoguePatriot6

Here's the typical smoke screen from liberalism. All of this outrage is just a diversion to draw your attention away from the important issue of "Why should I pay for another's sex life?", period, point blank and simple.

"Why, Rush, that monster who does he think he is to talk about this sweet innocent young lady that's standing for "women's rights"?
This is the image that the terminally liberal lame stream media wishes to hypnotize everyone with. They want to paint Rush as the grumpy old man who makes nasty remarks about women and have the public overlook comments made from the liberal comedians like Bill Maher and countless others along with what should be the focal issue. Where was the outrage over the comments made by Barack towards the Tea Party? (crickets) Where was the outrage over Bill Maher's comment about Sarah Palin? (crickets) Liberals love to control the audience by picking and choosing what to be outraged over in a sea of what everyone should be outraged over. They don't care about "women's health issues or rights" all they care about is power and controll.

    • Tacitus

“They don’t care about “women’s health issues or rights” all they care about is power and control.”

Exactly. The issue is not the issue, the issue is the revolution, whereby the neo-coms gain control of the Federal Government and proceed to destroy America. Women’s rights, or even government paying for personal needs, are just smoke screens. Every time you hear a neo-com run at the mouth about this or that social issue, remember that the issue is not the issue.

      • Jim_C

The issue is simple: Rush equated using birth control with being a slut.

Now he has to deal with the consequences.

Too bad, because somewhere in that hateful vitriol against Ms. Fluke, he actually had a point.

        • kentatwater

Actually, he was mocking her transparently bogus claim that she needed the government to provide for her contraceptive "needs," to the tune of $3000 annually. Since the pill can be had for $9/month, Rush was only doing what he usually does: expose absurdity, by being absurd.

As to the consquences…well, this dust up has attracted a new host of advertisers, and he gets to tell some of those who bailed, and are now asking to be let back in to the fold, to Fluke off.

  • RoguePatriot6

Typical liberlism is to whine and cry over being denied something while victimizing others and stepping all over their rights.

Liberalism is liberty only for those who harbor the same twisted morality of liberals.

    • Jim_C

This whole article is a whine about Rush not being able to call people who use birth control "sl#ts."

      • RoguePatriot6

        Uhhh…No,

This article is about typical liberal double standards and how this whole outrage thing is just a smoke screen to divert attention from the real issue of "Why should people pay for other people's birth control?"

        • Jim_C

Well people have been doing so for years and years; this is not new. We don't get to pick and choose everything we pay for. I still have to pay when people get lung cancer from their personal choice of smoking. And I still have to pay for the Iraq War. And I'm fine with that.

Double standards? I guess we could play that game all day long, but I see no need to defend Rush's real attitude towards women by trying lamely to pretend he "misspoke" for several days straight until forced to "apologize." So why even try?

        • Jim_C

We've been doing it for years, just like we pay for other things we don't necessarily agree with. That's OK, that's what political discussion is for. It's certainly legit to bring up.

I think Rush's real attitude towards women who use birth control is actually pretty outrageous, I don't need the smokescreen. What's sad is that you're right–it is at least a legitimate point to argue–but Rush instead let his real attitude about women get in the way. So the uproar is legit, too.

So part of this is Rush enjoys a special status in that politicians kowtow to him, and liberals loathe him more than any other media figure. That makes him different from similar liberal figures who might have a microphone but little actual clout. Rush is a power player. It makes him a big target.

  • Amused

LOL….Mr.Bean acts alone , who could be his freind ? He'd definitely get you into a fight in a bar [ if he's old enough to drink ] or restaurant…even in a library !
But Mr.Bean draws alot of water around here and in spite of his , er …uh …"talent " he does garner a goodly number of 'approves " with his posts .

  • RoguePatriot6

Do liberals really care about women's rights? Do feminists really care about women's rights?

Why don't you speak out in a fit of outrage against Islamism and all of the attrocities that Islam has done against women? Why don't you speak out against honor killings and all of the other sewage that comes in a never ending stream from the "religion of peace"? Huh…..I didn't hear you…..(crickets).

    • rolf

Liberals have no interest in women's rights. They use the issue to get women's votes.
They could care less about pedophilia,FGM and honor killings.
Government mandated birth control stomps on women's rights and religious freedom. They couldn't beat the religious angle of the debate so they shifted the focus.

Promoting birth control promotes sexual activity and ignores the facts that birth control is elective, not a health issue, not foolproof, not all women can take the pill and it promotes negative behavior.
It becomes a health issue when it changes from recreation to unwanted pregnancy ,high risk pregnancies , STD's,AIDS,Hepatitis and the new antibiotic resistant gonnarhea .Then all tax payers and insured persons are forced to be responsible .

Also is irresponsible reproduction really a problem with 30 yr old ,upper class college students?
70% of African – American children are born to under educated, unwed, young mothers. As are 46% of Hispanic babies and 27% of white .

    • DeepBreathPeople

      In short:

Do liberals really care about women's rights? Yes
Do feminists really care about women's rights? Yes
Why don't you speak out in a fit of outrage against Islamism and all of the attrocities that Islam has done against women? They do
Why don't you speak out against honor killings and all of the other sewage that comes in a never ending stream from the "religion of peace"? They do

    • Jim_C

They obviously care far more than Rush does…but yeah feel free to bring up a non-sequitur about Islam. Whose treatment of women, by the way, has been the target of worldwide women's rights groups. Hillary Clinton was a strong advocate for those groups as First Lady.

Something you'd know–if you actually cared. LOL

      • RoguePatriot6

Actually, Jim_C, I do. You see, this is where liberals and I think differently on the matter. I have a little girl who one day, God willing, will grow up into a beautiful young woman. Since I DO CARE so much and love my daughter SO MUCH, I'm going to take the PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, to teach her about morality and to be RESPONSIBLE FOR HERSELF. You know, "PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY", the issue that you and others seem to avoid. I'm also going to teach her to be independent and not burden others or whine about what liberals think they should be entitled to simply because THEY WERE BORN. Wow, wait a minute, "INDEPENDENCE"………(psst) hey, isn't that what feminists abroad and others who have protested about women's rights were striving for? I guess I had it wrong.
And by the way, Hillary and this administration, 2 months ago, sold our rights, both men and women, to freedom of speech to the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) at a U.N. convention. They're trying to create an international law, that deems it illegal to speak against Islam. Her and this administration have their lips super glued to the backsides of these Islamist goons. Maybe if YOU cared you would have read about it. LOL

        • Jim_C

Ah, but you see, should your daughter or mine grow up and responsibly begin using birth control…well, Rush gave us several choice names for girls who do, didn't he? See, Rush had a proper point…and failed to make it. And still the conservative media scrambled to somehow blame liberals for Rush's language. What was that about personal responsibility, again?

          Agree about Islamic goons.

But Hillary has been far, far more out front on the treatment of women throughout the world than any conservative leader.

          • RoguePatriot6

"See, Rush had a proper point…and failed to make it. And still the conservative media scrambled to somehow blame liberals for Rush's language. What was that about personal responsibility, again?"

Okay, I must have missed that one, when did Rush blame liberals for a slip of the tongue, which by the way, liberals get away with that and far worse on a daily basis.

Rush Limbaugh had called her a slut,
    And ev’ryone said “oh, but, but . . .”
    Well she’s really a beauty
    Not just a mere cutie,
With guys at her door—a real glut.

Miss Fluke is good looking, for sure!
For leftist women in media, a cure.
    For most are true hags,
    Or just wrinkled old bags,
That the media for some reason endure.

    I
Ms. Fluke has a really great crew
Of men that she likes to screw.
    But she needs contraception
    To facilitate reception
Of the men’s organs that grew and grew.

    II
But in the work of many a day,
She thought that someone should pay,
For the cost of her pills,
    In her medical bills,
So in freedom she’ll just give a great lay.

Ms. Fluke liked to f… all the time,
And do it on the citizen's dime.
    So she went on TV
    And offered her plea,
So if insurance pays not—that's a crime!

Which God are you talking about that is giving me my rights? The Protestant God? The Jewish God? One of the Hindu Gods? The Zoroastrian Gods? The Muslim God? The Shinto Gods? Because they all promise different things.

  • Len_Powder

"Progressive dudgeon hit the stratosphere. Democrat “strategist” Krystal Ball (sic) called Limbaugh “despicable,” “disgusting,” and a “loathsome individual.” The one thing I have never understood in hearing or reading over 30 years of leftist rants is WHY ANYONE GIVES TWO HOOTS about what they say or think? The Left is completely INSANE. Why does anyone care about what upsets or disturbs them? If it's not one thing it's another. Until they achieve complete control over everything they will always complain about injustice and unfairness. Anything short of their utopian delusion is imperfect and must be attacked and destroyed. They are idiots and belong in an asylum. Why does anyone care what they think or say?

    • Jim_C

Ever take a look in the mirror?

  • elihu

In part, I see this leftist 'outrage' in a little different light. Personally, I believe the left is using this free publicity to detract the (ignorant and apathetic = "I don't know, and I don't care") electorate from the REAL ISSUES that point hard to Maobama total failures: unemployment, zillions of $'s of debt, and rising, the stupidity of the VOLT, the FACT that his polling numbers are sinking, etc. They don't want anyone thinking that maybe he just isn't doing his job.

  • msbetz

Mr. Thornton, point well made re/Rush's comment. The real issue is Freedom of Speech as well as Freedom of Religion! Brilliant move by Rush, he knows the power of words….

    • Jim_C

That's right, and with freedom comes responsibility and consequences. Rush made a comment that turned his advertisers away. People, for some reason, want to blame liberals for Rush's hateful words. I wonder how they raise their kids? "The other kids did it, so it's not my kid's fault!"

  • Asher

For crying out loud, this is about Freedom of speech…We on the right aren't suppose to have it, do you get it by now…There is a double standard when Sarah Palin can be called a slut by Bill Maur, or MSNBCS Ed Schutz. This Fluke Woman is a politcal Opperative for the Obama adminstration and has had messages or conversations with Nancy Pelosi. She is a professional student of 30 years old, who is dumb enough to think that we are so eager to fund her Sexual escapades…another ploy to get our minds off the real issues of Obama's failed, radial, and destructive Agenda!

  • Randolph Rivers

Go Rush go. Real Americans are with you.

The Spartans (and most of the Greeks) did pretty well for themselves without any homosexuality (or bisexuality) stigma. King David was pretty darn promiscuous.

I'm not saying the Founders didn't think there was a natural law. I'm just saying that they were mistaken in these beliefs. Different cultures believe different things are "natural" and different points in history.

Surrendering religious liberty for free contraceptives? Talk about selling one's birthright for a mess of pottage
