Obama’s Gay Marriage ‘Evolution’ Deception

Pages: 1 2

In yet another act of election-year cynicism, Barack Obama has just announced, “I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.” This statement follows similar pronouncements by Joe Biden and Education Secretary Arne Duncan. To hear Obama tell it, this change reflects his “evolution” away from his previously stated position, which he made clear in 2008 a few days before the election: “I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage.” That same year he told Reverend Rick Warren that marriage is a “union between a man and a woman,” adding that it is a “sacred union” with “God in the mix.” Both statements contradicted what he had told a Chicago gay newspaper in 1996 while running for the Illinois state senate: “I favor legalizing same-sex marriage.” No wonder this year’s electoral conversion smells suspicious even to Obama cheerleader MSNBC, which on its First Read blog brushed past the personal “evolution” pretext and zeroed in on the political calculus: “Obama’s shift not only speaks to a broad swath of the electorate, which has exhibited increasing acceptance of same-sex marriage in opinion polls, but also gay and lesbian voters who compose a core part of Obama’s base, and have been major fundraisers for his re-election.”

This latest about-face, then, clearly shows that Obama’s 2008 opposition to gay marriage was devised to make him appear a centrist during the presidential election, and that now he believes he can speak honestly and shore up his progressive base.

That Obama would say one thing while believing another is well established by his long track record of shifting his policy positions depending on whether he is pandering to the center or the left––consider extraordinary renditions, military tribunals, Guantanamo, or the surge in Iraq, all of which he vociferously opposed until he supported them. Some might think that he is a rank opportunist who believes in none of these positions, his public statements based on tactical calculations reflecting polls and political necessity. Remember his principled opposition to the evil Bush tax cuts, which he then extended a month after the 2010 electoral “shellacking,” as he called it?

But consideration of the world from which Obama emerged points us to what he really thinks. It beggars belief to think someone who has spent his whole adult life in the progressive purlieus of academe and community activism, where gay marriage, like abortion, is a sacrament, could sincerely be opposed to it. Like taxing the greedy rich, America’s foreign policy sins, endemic white racism, redistributionist economics, global warming, the evils of carbon-based energy, deficit spending, conservative misogynism, and all the other scriptures in the progressive psalter, the rightness and justness of gay marriage are revealed truths that require obedience, not justification.

Indeed, gay marriage is particularly expressive of the progressive gospel, for this issue concentrates all that sect’s fundamentalist doctrines. First, it exemplifies the progressive idea that the traditional wisdom and beliefs of the masses are benighted remnants of their ignorant, superstitious past from which we should be evolving. The collective wisdom of the human race developed over centuries is automatically suspect and to be rejected as irrational justifications for oppression, exclusion, and the defense of unfair privilege. Progressive moderns, supposedly armed with advances in knowledge discovered by the “human sciences,” are better able to arrange society and human relations so that they reflect the reality hidden to our religion-addled ancestors, and thus can ensure justice and equality. So the belief based on faith, tradition, and natural law that marriage is an institution joining a man and woman is to be rejected, and society to be reshaped according to the truths possessed by enlightened progressives.

Finally,Obama noted the irony of a black man sounding like George Wallace and the Klu Klux Klan. Gay marriage has done Canada no harm (has lower unemployment and a lower deficit, whille still providing health care for all it's citizens).

Most Jews (Reform) support gay marriage. They know the hate directed at gays comes from the same pit of lies that went at Jews.

If you don't like gay marriage, don't attend one. Nobody is holding a gun.

Obama may not win, but he is not pandering to the worst in people. Romeny should follow.

If you say why talk about gay marriage with a bad economy, well, America had a bad economy in the Depression. Roosevelt should have endorsed civil rights for balcks.

What does gay marriage have to do with lower unemployment and lower deficit? Nothing. Lower unemployment and lower deficit have to do with lower corporate taxes and lower entitlement spending. And Canadian healthcare sucks, by the way.

Defining marriage as one man one woman doesn't force you into anything. If you don't like one, then don't get married.

I sure wish the ignorant among us would stop trying to hijack the civil rights movement and parallel this sewage with the bigotry towards blacks and other minorities during a not so proud time in American history.

Racisim is about race, NOT HABBITS or ADDICTIONS or LIFESTYLES!!!

      "So, discrimination is discrimination"

Okay, so if you were an employer looking for security guards, would you hire a man/woman who was known to be dishonest, a theif and liar. Of course not, you would discriminate against those people to protect your buisiness.
Being against homoexuality or banning gay marriage isn't "racism" or "bigotry". It's based upon what someone does, not what he/she looks like. If people, would just stop and think instead of panicking everytime someone makes this dumb comparasion to the civil rights movement they would see how ridiculous it is.

Everytime lib/progs face the heat they always want to redfine something to suit their purposes. What's funny is the fact that years ago, most of the LBGT said marriage is old fashioned not needed. Alot of them mock God and dispise those who believe in Him. Yet they want to enter into a union endorsed and created by Him.

      Go figure.

Undoubtedly this unprecedented, history making, move by the President will send the economy soaring, win over the undecideds (change even some Republican votes) and carry him across the electoral finish line miles ahead of homophobic bigoted Mitt-that is, only if Ohio and Florida secede from the Union before November 6th.

Supporting gay marriage is not as simple as it seems for Obama. Obama's Arab/ Moslem bosses in the oil rich Arabian Peninsula had to be brought on board. After all, in Arab/ Moslem controlled countries being gay is a capital offence. Arab/ Moslems violently oppress gays and frequently murder them. So Obama had to convince his bosses that supporting gay marriage in America would help him get re-elected. And with him remaining at the helm he could continue pouring $10s of billions of American dollars into their pockets every year and keep us dependent on foreign sources of oil for our energy needs. He obviously convinced the oil sheikhs or there would have been a fatwa issued against him.

Judaism stoned them. The church burned them at the stake. The Nazis put the in the concentration camps. The Soviets sent them to the Gulag. The Iranians hang them. Africa burns them in car tires. Gangster rappers shoot them. Good Christian US families send them to the psychiatric institutions.

Where does this mortal hate and fear come from that unites Christian, Muslim, Jew, Atheist, Black and White, prince and pauper? If gays had a record of being excessively sexually agressive, pedophile or detrimental to society, OK, but quite the contrary is the case, which can hardly be said for the pedophile covering clergy, usually in the front line of battle.

    • Mo_

Spare me the litany of victimhood, as though this particular group is the only one in history who has been through such things. No one is advocating for homosexuals to be stoned, burned or anything else in America.

The amendment passed in NC was a defensive measure against the pervasive onslaught of homosexuals pressuring society to accept their behavior.

Homosexuals are free to live their lives how they choose. They can have marriage ceremonies and enter into legal contracts. They don't want marriage. (As can be seen in European countries where same-sex marriage has been legalized for years now!)

They want to change society. Most importantly, they want to bully those who disagree with their behavior into accepting it.

      We will not.

  • tagalog

Michael Medved has made an interesting point: same-sex marriage is not banned or unlawful; if a gay couple wants to marry, all they need do is find a church that will sanctify their union, and the government and the law will not interfere with that.

What does interfere with gay marriage is that a "married" gay couple cannot -in most states or under federal law- qualify for government marital benefits.

So maybe we who disagree with gay marriage should be altering our argument and focusing on the gay lobby's definition of the term "marriage" (the way they focus on ours), because it appears that the gay definition of marriage is "a union that qualifies people for government benefits." That is SO gay : ) !

Maybe that "you should be able to marry who you love" thingie is a bit of a red herring, eh?

Personally, I don't think getting government benefits is the definition of marriage.

Just for the record, I'm a divorce lawyer and I don't support the concept of gay marriage, and there are lots and lots of issues between gay couples that keep us legal beagles eating without handling gay divorce (like who gets the poor kid they adopted, and how much parenting time, if any, there should be). Hey, that gives new meaning to the comic opera (and movie) "The Gay Divorcee," doesn't it?

    • Jim_C

May I ask what your basis for not supporting gay marriage is?

      • tagalog

No. Well, strike that. Tradition. Whatever marriage is intended for, one of the least important aspects is the bonding of those who love each other. Those who love each other can bond without marriage; marriage serves some other value.

Anticipating a possible rejoinder, some traditions stand the test of time, some don't. It is my view, and I think objectively demonstrable, that marriage is one of the traditions that remains worthy of adherence.

        • Jim_C

The way I see it–and as an attorney maybe you can educate me here–the rubber meets the road in this sort of situation: You have a gay couple. Marriage is not legal in their state. One of them suddenly dies. The dead person's family was unsupportive and did not condone the "lifestyle" of their son. But as next of kin, they knew the details of the death. They claimed the body. They buried their son without inviting/perhaps threatening his partner not to come to funeral.

What legal recourse does the partner have/What should the couple have done to ensure rights akin to spousal?

          • tagalog

A will. A durable power of attorney. Written instructions to the family, copy to the gay partner. Nobody has a legal right to demand that they attend a funeral, including the parents, blood kin, gay lover, etc.

          • Jim_C

Well, sure. But you know probably better than many that many people, particularly young people, do not take the time to make such arrangements.

I have to think if we had allowed civil union-type arrangements to begin with, all this would be non-issue stuff. (Maybe, maybe not). In France, they have it codified in such a way that, say, an aunt and a niece who room together could have rights similar to married couples. That way, they avoid "sexualizing" the issue.

          • tagalog

Young people are thoughtless in many ways. The fact that this is a common state of affairs doesn't relieve them of the consequences of their acts (or failures to act).

Certainly the thoughtlessness of young people is not an ample justification for changing thousands of years of working tradition. Particularly for something like gay marriage that is no more than a short-term social fad.

          • Jim_C

Well…it's "short term" because it's only in the last 40-50 years that people have publically accepted that homosexuality always has been and always will be a part of the human condition. The empirical understanding that it occurs in nature and may be genetic is similarly recent

Marriage, for centuries and throughout different cultures, was an arrangement in which women were considered chattel. So marriage for love, in context, is also a "short term fad." Interracial marriage even more so.

          • tagalog

Women who were not slaves were never considered chattel, either within marriage or outside of it.

Marriage for love might indeed be a short-term thing, but it DOES have the value of being at least 500 years old, if not older than that (I'm thinking about romantic love in the age of chivalry, although such love is typically adulterous or experienced outside of marriage, although we DO have the tradition of "…and they lived happily ever after."

Interracial marriage is not a short-term thing; it's been going on since people first started marrying. A myopic view that considers only American society doesn't even yield that conclusion, since interracial marriages have been going here since the Pilgrims and other European settlers married Indians four or five centuries ago.

Like wealth, race, gender, and religion, homosexuality is just another issue being used by the insidious Left to divide us. Make the faithful feel guilty, the charitable cheap, the insecure afraid, and the successful ashamed. Then enslave them in your utopia without firing a shot. Yes, other nations have fallen because of other factors that lead them there. So what's the reasoning in your comment? Many nations have fallen because of their hatred towards gays? Has it ever occured to anybody here that "hatred" towards people might have been the cause. Hatred towards God often equates to hatred towards men and women also. It's glaringly obvious that Obama is once again playing the gay "community" for fools. He is using them – pandering to them for votes – period. If he really felt this strongly about the issue, he could have done something about it MUCH earlier. Things are looking VERY bad for him right now in the polling, and he is feeling a need to solidify whatever voting blocs he can. Fortunately there are many of us gay people (never represented in the mainstream news media) who are conservative and see right through Obama's charade. Oh – and for the record – there are MANY legal rights which are associated with marriage that have nothing to do with government benefits. Such as inheritance rights, and rights of visitation in hospitals, etc. Yes – gay people can hire an attorney and draw up contracts to secure these legal rights at a cost of hundreds or thousands of dollars, but why should we be forced to do this? My solution is to get the government out of the marriage "license" business entirely, or institute something like "Civil Unions" which carry with them the same legal rights as marriage.

  • H&R_ Barack

Obama saw his bad moon rising.

  • effemall

While I find homosexuality somewhat emetic, I consider this a move to have potential benefits. Homosexuals must be the most prolific distributors of AIDS and introducing marriage may cut down on their overall licentiousness. It's a bit ironic for them to make an big issue of this while heterosexuals are bypassing marriage more and more to just live together, and half of those who do marry tend to divorce within six years. Do gays seek the divorce court experience? Obama had little choice after Biden went public with his stance. This will cost Obama some votes. Additionally, since he hedged by handing the issue over to the states, he enraged many of his hot head followers and will lose more votes. Thus, all in all, potentially there are more benefits to be derived – decreased volume of AIDS and fewer votes for the phony-in-chief.

    • Jim_C

The hot heads will cool down. There may be no net gain for Obama but there won't be a net loss, either. People one-track-minded enough to vote on this issue above the 50 or so more important issues facing the country have already made their mind up anyway.

It is a fact that Barack Obama has used drugs. It is also a fact that Obama had associates such as Stuart Levine that were regular drug users with other men. It is also a fact that 2 gay men in Obama’s church, Donald Young and Larry Bland, were murdered late in 2007. Donald Young was the choir director.

Larry Sinclair has alleged that he and Obama had multiple encounters in Chicago between November 3 and November 8 1999. Sinclair alleged the first encounter was in a rented limousine where they used drugs and had gay sex. It is also documented that Obama was absent from the Illinois Senate on November 4, 1999. Is Obama on the down low? A former chef and owner of an upscale restaurant in Chicago claims to have heard repeated rumors in the gay community in Chicago that Obama is gay.

I admire such confidence. After all, he soundly beat an inmate in the WV Democrat primaries by the whole 19 points. Nobody in the history of American politics ever flew this high.

          • reader

18 points to be precise – but, who's counting? Kick ass, by any measure, eh?

          • fightwarnotwars

this is hilarious… you people are very sad, yet you make me laugh. By "you people" I mean all you who are so adamant about "small government" yet look to government (both at the state and federal level) to regulate people's personal lives when it comes to who they decide to marry. And by "you people" I definitely mean all you conspiracy theorists.

            gay/communist/muslim…. c'mon.

          • reader

So, why would you like for the state to recognize your marriage then? Is anybody punishing you for sleeping with the same sex partner, or even an animal for that matter? Don't think so. The question for a state is – what's next? Should it recognize a marriage between you and a horse?

          • reader

By the way, speaking about sad, you're missing the point entirely. Obama is really taking "you people" as idiots. He did not say that he was going to give "you people" any rights. He said that it was up to the state. So, the only reason he said what he said was that he got trounced on the primary election day, and his handlers figured that he should forget the blue-color Dems in favor of gay donors. That's all it is to it.

    One of us:
That he is a Gay, Muslim “Light”, Communist grifter the Gays know, a modern day Caligula “light”, after paying for his presidency they are tired from promises and want a tangible result, before his second term flames leaving them with a hole in the pocket and empty handed. They want an advance on their original payments, and he knows that they know that he is Gay (AC/DC model). Making his case under emergency environment to a Gay reporter (ABC), throwing pre-arranged softball questions is just what the sinister greaseball Axelrod (a certified mentored Communist) thought would work best? under these miserable circumstances. It does not take a genius to figure it out, because many of his bundlers, appointees, friends and close associates , going back to Occidental College, Columbia University, his trips to Pakistan are mainly associated with sex perverts. With the help of the Unions and the Chicago Left these organized crime Alinsky style mob-methods have been in use since 2007 . More than 5 persons died in the process of the 2008 election cycle, two gay men he had an affair with in Chicago, (choir boys who sing no more) 2 persons of the Electoral College, one Gay, Catholic author, one passport office clerk, wasted in his own car, as well two persons associated with Breitbarts demise that are gone ( the last person who saw him and the Coroner-RIP). Therefore, the gays know that they could be targeted and perhaps they are making their case now? If he does not deliver he could be OUTED. The Gays played this ugly game on the pages of the dailies during the hot 80's during the AIDS crisis, naming public officials, rich players, and celebrities who did not answer the call, by publicly shaming them. It is a forced hand. He is subject to blackmail. So far the media watched his back, covering up for any indiscretion, from his personal hunky valet, shipped to business school, a former star basket ball player to dates with gays, numerous Gay charities, hunks playing ball in the White House while mama Michelle is overseas slumming in designer dresses, or snake dancing in Azania, (South Africa) while he plays, with many gays! He has to oblige for not being honest with the public about who he is, where he came from and his true proclivities are subject to endless threats, and he must accommodate the gay extortionists, the Hollywood celebrities, the fringe lunatic lefty "Anarchists" of which many are flaming queens, and assorted molesters of various indulgences, this is simply a case of new age alien Caligula pressed against the wall with a sharp knife close to his gay neck while he is evolving.

"He was a wonderful guy,” Obama said at the time. “He was the first openly gay professor that I had ever come in contact with, or openly gay person of authority that I had come in contact with."

Stinky (aka BO) was well known and very popular in college on the down low with the brothers in the back seat of cars. He apparently liked to snort cocaine off thier Tony Ds (Moochie likes to watch). I'm guessing he'll have the opportunity to do so again over at Clooneys. They love gays, cocaine, and BO.

I know I'm going to be attacked for this but I should say it anyway. I think that homosexuality should be a private matter,to be discussed only among that person's family and friends. I don't think it should be shoved in everyone else's face just so that particular group can feel good about themselves.

"Judaism stoned them. The church burned them at the stake. The Nazis put the in the concentration camps. The Soviets sent them to the Gulag. The Iranians hang them. Africa burns them in car tires. Gangster rappers shoot them. Good Christian US families send them to the psychiatric institutions. "

Another pathetic attempt at "oh, woe is me the persecuted and pitiful victim of discrimination". Puhlllllleeeeeezzzz!!!

They also did this to spies, thieves, rapists, treasonists and murderers. However harsh the treatment, it doesn't make what any of them did, RIGHT.

Was the panderer-in-chief lying then or is he lying now?
OK fine this may be an important issue to some people but what should concern us all is that the US government – DHS, TSA and many other agencies are preparing for war against the American people. 3/4 billion 40 caliber hollow point bullets, shotguns, armored pillboxes for roadside check- points, NDAA, FEMA camps. They are coming for you and your families and no one is standing in their way. Hollow points are outlawed in international war, so they are being purchased for you and me. OK Bob please go ahead and marry your boyfriend but pay attention the USA is turning into a police state.

  • Reason_For_Life

I don't think it matters what Obama "really" believes, if anything. The endorsement of gay marriage was a clever tactical move not against Romney, but against the Tea Party.

The Tea Party is the first significant political wildcard in many years. However, while Tea Partiers are joined by the desire to limit government, cut spending and lower taxes they are divided on social issues in a roughly 50-50 split between libertarians and social conservatives. As long as the issues are economic, the Tea Party represents a formidable challenge to the status quo.

The easiest way to neuter the Tea Party is to make social issues paramount. Mitch Daniels was pilloried for just suggesting that social issues be put on the back burner during this election cycle and lost any chance for national office as a result despite being a pretty good governor. Daniel's fate certainly did not go unnoticed by Obama's allies.

The probable candidacy of Mitt Romney has already left the libertarian wing of the Tea Party cold. If economic issues showed clear differences between Romney and Obama the libertarians would probably relent and vote for Romney. However, if Romney fails to differentiate himself from Obama in economic terms and concentrates of social issues the libertarians will stay home and Obama skates to an easy victory.

That is what Obama is counting on: Divide and conquer.

Perhaps he reckoned that, after enraging the churches by insisting they pay benefits for contraception and abortion, he can't lose any more of the religious vote, so he may as well try to pick up votes from sexual deviants.

  • WilliamJamesWard

Eventually he would expose himself as to who he really is, the slow outing of what he believes and
how he is anathema to traditional American morality and values, what we hold sacred he
obviously detests. Evil is always the opposite of good, I have never seen anything good in
this man but for some reason many flocked to his call with mind numbing blah blah blah hope,
blah blah change ad nauseam, whoops there he goes not really changing, just raising the
blinds. We have not seen the worst yet……………………………William

  • elizabeth villalobos

I'm not at all shocked about his comments. He will do and say anything to win votes. What is worse is that people believe anyone without researching it on their own. Sad to say he may be a 2nd term president.

They are timid, there is enough material to work with but they try to be gentlemen…time will tell? Will you have the humility to acknowledge that you were wrong if and when more material will come out? Do you recall how the media went after George Bush and Mr. Rove, believing they outed Valery Plame (CIA) who to this day believes in her twisted mind that insiders compromised her, and as it turned out it was Undersecretary Armitage, C.Powell's deputy who leaked who she was. I never saw anyone from the media saying that they were wrong, or that they were sorry? We hounded the wrong people? So, cool your jets, there is time, who knwos what happens, maybe one of Barking Owebummers' flings may be coming forward, do you remember what happened to Dan Rather in 2004? It could happen again?

  • http://www.GodsSabbathRest.us Gary McAleer

Forgive this lengthy treatise, but certain ground must be covered in response to Obama's foolish catering.

With President Obama fully endorsing gay marriage, it is wise to understand why GOD calls all adultery sin against the 7th Commandment; whether you agree or disagree with this religious platform to govern life. As a result of his public encouraging of same sex intercourse, he has forfeit any rights to claim the Bible's Gospel of Jesus Christ. There are too many passages disqualifying his claim to serve GOD and his fellow man based on his military, economic and social decisions as President. The point is, don't say you're a Christian when you are not. If you are going to claim Christ as LORD and Saviour of your life, you do it according to Christ's words or be honest with everyone and say, "I will not have this Man to reign over me."

To promote a lifestyle that GOD warned long ago not only leads to the heartache and dismantling of the human family but also opens the door to the spirit of hatred and murder when the dangers against this social imposition are exposed, especially where vulnerable children are involved. And that same hateful spirit is seen in Christians, Muslims, Atheists, etc. and is becoming more or more prominent with life's increasing insecurity through the mismanagement of government.

In principle, all sin is simply this: anything that threatens the security of life, GOD calls it a sin. Let's briefly examine this.

I have spent summers with children infected with the AIDS virus at a children's camp called The Boggy Creek Gang in Central Florida. This camp was raised up by Paul Newman and General "Stormin' Norman" Schwarzkopf who used their clout to raise 34 million dollars to build it. Children bear this terminal disease because of the decisions of adults to spread adultery. This is the only reason children suffer from this disease. If there was no adultery the kids would not have AIDS! And adultery is encouraged in every aspect of our society from the financial dynasties of pornography and television to the lifestyles of homosexuality and various addictions. This is where we see a gruesome consequence from the violation of the 7th Commandment of Jesus Christ (John.8:58), that says, "Thou shalt not commit adultery." And few in our society have the humility to acknowledge that American law contributes to the murder of innocent children. This murder of children violates the 6th Commandment that says, "Thou shalt not kill." And now, to evade responsibility, most who are collaborators with this murder choose to pass the responsibility to another, which violates the 9th Commandment that says, "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor." Adultery has literally stolen the lives of these children, which violates the 8th Commandment that says, "Thou shalt not steal." Do you see that to violate any of the Ten Commandments is to violate them all? And if they were obeyed there would be no wars or locks on doors. But this world denies the very law where we are safe in one another's care.

These children were handed the death sentence because others demand their unbridled freedom, regardless of the cost to others, even to the literal sacrifice of the lives of children. Our society has adopted a cruel indifference preventing them from seeing the great lesson of the 6th Commandment, which teaches, To neglect to save life is to kill. The value of life needs to be held as sacred to us all because to insure the security of others is to insure the same security for ourselves. And so, to remove the security of life for others is to remove that same security of life for ourselves.

In summation: our society encourages the continued and expanding violation of the Ten Commandments, all under a distorted definition of freedom, WHICH IS REALLY NO FREEDOM AT ALL FOR THOSE VICTIMIZED BY ITS ABUSE.

“the traditional wisdom and beliefs of the masses are benighted remnants of their ignorant, superstitious past from which we should be evolving. The collective wisdom of the human race developed over centuries is automatically suspect and to be rejected as irrational justifications for oppression, exclusion, and the defense of unfair privilege. Progressive moderns, supposedly armed with advances in knowledge discovered by the “human sciences,” are better able to arrange society and human relations so that they reflect the reality hidden to our religion-addled ancestors, and thus can ensure justice and equality.”

Yes. This is correct. Also, I believe it is incorrect to state that liberals are opposed to traditional marriage. They are actually quite fond of it, as most of them are heterosexual. The difference is that they believe marriage should be open to everyone, not just to people born with the predisposition to feel attracted to people of the opposite sex. If you happen to dislike the idea of same-sex marriage, then don’t marry someone of the same sex. That’s the only way in which the legalization of same-sex marriage could affect you personally. That’s also a point that distinguishes gay marriage from abortion. Abortion claims the life of an innocent child, and thus should be illegal, regardless of the mother’s moral code.Gay marriage affects no one outside of the marriage, and thus it makes no sense why it should be illegal.
