The problem with Nazi Germany wasn't that it was militaristic. The problem is that it was evil. As a consequence, post-war Germany's decision to cope with its Nazi legacy by embracing pacifism and blaming militarism rather than embracing goodness was a feint. They didn't want to do the hard work of expunging the habits of evil that enabled Nazism to flourish as a natural outgrowth of German culture. So they pretended the problem was something unrelated. The Poles were militaristic. They didn't become Nazis. The French were militaristic. They didn't become Nazis.
And by the way, Gunther Grass was a Nazi.
Anti-Semitism is still a major animating force in Germany because the Germans never truly dealt with their obsession with Jews. They simply projected their anti-Semitism onto the Jewish state and then pretended the problem with Israel was that it wasn't pacifist. But really the problem with Israel is that it is Jewish, and as it happens righteous. And the more Israel is Israel, the more the Germans hate it.

J-Street knows all about the Hitler connection but plays dumb. The Muslim Brotherhood hooked up with Hitler in the early 1930's. Hamas is a product of the Muslim Brotherhood. Obama is a supporter the Muslim Brotherhood.
I am American who lives permanently in Germany. I understand Caroline Glick's disappointment with Germany. I do not agree with "C'est la même chose" when applied to Germany. Alas, it is more complicated than that. The simple assertion "that all is the same", particularly in evaluating the world as it is NOW, is inadequate. I can guarantee that 99.9% of the German population does not know the connection between Huseinni and Hitler, though endless tv documentaries do note a connection, but no real analysis. I must keep my remarks short and, hopefully, essential.

Post WW II Germany (with some exceptions in the old GDR population) does not see itself as anti-Jewish. Au contraire, a feeling of expunged guilt is present. What do I mean? The German "national" sin was its militarism finding an extreme form in Nazi military action. A post war reaction has been that Gemans as a whole have become pacifistic (polls have determined that). This means that active use of military force is in itself seen as probably "sinful" (the terminology used is different). During the Cold War there was continual and often massive re-action against America, be it in Vietnam or in Pershing Missles in Germany. Chancelor Schmidt of the Social Democrats, lost his control of the party because he backed the American stationing of defensive atomic missles in Germany. My point: American use of military force, viz., violence was ipso facto wrong until proven otherwise. Since the Cold War is passed Israel is the one nation that needs to use military action. This means that Israel has inherited the wrath of German pacificism, a feeling necessary to expunge guilt. Add to this, the sympathy for victims of war, colateral damage (which was not so colateral during WW II--by both sides), solidifies the pacifistic predisposition. I will quickly apply this to the German non-resistance to the Palestine vote in the UN.

The Israelis whacked the hell out of Hamas. Alas, some Palestinian children were hurt. Visions of such tragedies flooded German tv. Oh, Israel must defend itself, BUT ... Relative to the Palestinians there is a guilt feeling. But what about anti-Semitism? The German left leaners have evolved a point of view (some times aided by leftist guests from Israel) that an essential distinction must be made between Jews in Israel as persons and criticism of the Israeli, viz., the Jewish State. Think back to Günther Grass's diatribe against Israel, not Iran. Despite doubtful literary value, Grass found surprising opinion support. Grass is no anti-Semetic, he is just against the "aggressive" policies of the Israeli State (just as he was against the "aggressive" policies of America during the Cold War). With the RADICAL distinction between Jews and Israel as a state, together with sympathy for the downtrodden Palestianis, coupled with ignorance of the history of "Palestinians" and Jews in Israel, and with a pacifistic predisposition to oppose the use of force (even when necessary), with all these poinst, we have the basis for Germany's failure to oppose the Palestinian attempts re the UN.

I do hope I have been able to suggest a wider view point for understanding Germany. I also beg understanding for whatever spelling errors as it is 4 AM for me at the moment of writing this comment.

A simple-minded simplification from a simple mind!
Husseini was responsible for murdering other Arabs, moderate ones, not only Jews to feed his own megolomania and power hunger. He was a staunch ally of Hitler always scheming the for the death of Jews in Arab lands and Europe. Hardly a comparison to one failed attempt to extricate Jewish children from Hitler's grasp.
Your ignorance of history is abysmal, but then you really don't need to bother with facts.

"Husseini was a slippery man--very hard to catch; he always managed to stay one step ahead of British intelligence."

Slippery politically, not because he was some great spy who knew how to evade. He was in bed with the British.

"However, its interesting that Haj Amin Husseini isn't well remembered or well respected in the Muslim world today."

I don't know how you figure that. Maybe they wish he had been more effective achieving his goals. He's only about as popular as Hitler.

"I was aware that Iran and Hitler's Germany were allies but never heard of Husseini. Husseini has done more lasting damage than Hitler. Hitler was at last condemned but this Husseini (and probably many more as evil as he) has escaped being pointed out in history as another murder and propagandist of terror against the jewish people."

As I said the other day, we wouldn't even demonize Hitler without Stalin's permission. If al Husseini had been an enemy of the left, there would be national consensus. He's a hero to the Muslims to this day and therefore there is NO WAY you can teach these facts of history in any school that expects to get away unscathed. Getting away unscathed is the goal of virtually every educator today.

I fear for our nation and our world.....look at England....it has capitulated. It did not give into the Nazis back in the 1940s, but it looks like it would now. The West must awaken!!!

Husseini was a slippery man--very hard to catch; he always managed to stay one step ahead of British intelligence. The Nazis were beginning to build concentration camps, for North African Jews, when the victory at El-Alamein put a stop to that; and the story of the Farhud is told in detail, in Edwin Black's book of the same name. However, its interesting that Haj Amin Husseini isn't well remembered or well respected in the Muslim world today.

I was aware that Iran and Hitler's Germany were allies but never heard of Husseini. Husseini has done more lasting damage than Hitler. Hitler was at last condemned but this Husseini (and probably many more as evil as he) has escaped being pointed out in history as another murder and propagandist of terror against the jewish people. I had a hard time following the article as the dates seemed to skip around, so the timeline is hard to follow but the information is enlightening. Thank you. How many more will be slaughtered before this evil political cult will be destroyed?

This information is well referenced in the book, "The Nazi Connection to Islamic Terrorism: Adolf Hitler and Haj Amin el Husseini by Chuck Morse - World Net Daily Books. In it you will learn that Husseini actually designed the Final Solution that was enhanced by the Nazi's. al-Husseini was promised the office of Furhur of the Middle East if they met with success. Today you can see the Nazi influence on Islam and the affected countries. Just look at their uniforms, their marching and method of salute. Ignoring this problem will have dire consequences to the entire world.
