The White House so delicately catered to the religious sensitivities of Osama bin Laden’s sympathizers that the administration ordered his corpse washed, wrapped it in a white sheet, and made it the subject of Islamic prayers. American Catholics, 54 percent of whom supported Barack Obama in 2008, have no such luck winning the administration’s religious toleration.

At issue is Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’s bureaucratic mandate that all employers—including Catholic schools, hospitals, and charities—pay for contraceptives, sterilization, and morning-after pill abortifacients through their health insurance plans. The administration recently revealed that the only relief Catholic conscientious objectors will receive is a reprieve until August 2013.

“The Obama administration has just told the Catholics of the United States, ‘To Hell with you!’ There is no other way to put it,” Bishop David Zubik explained to his Pittsburgh diocese last week. “‘To Hell with your religious beliefs. To Hell with your religious liberty. To Hell with your freedom of conscience.’” Zubik’s fellow bishops were somewhat more diplomatic in the language they used last Sunday.

At the behest of Catholic bishops, parish priests across America read a rebuke to the Obama administration from the pulpit at mass. “The federal government, which claims to be ‘of, by, and for the people,’ has just dealt a heavy blow to almost a quarter of those people—the Catholic population—and to the millions more who are served by the Catholic faithful,” one variant of the letter explained. “The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced last week that almost all employers, including Catholic employers, will be forced to offer their employees health coverage that includes sterilization, abortion-inducing drugs, and contraception. Almost all health insurers will be forced to include those ‘services’ in the health policies they write. And almost all individuals will be forced to buy that coverage as a part of their policies. In so ruling, the Obama Administration has cast aside the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, denying to Catholics our Nation’s first and most fundamental freedom, that of religious liberty.”

The provision is certainly an assault on liberty. But why did it take an assault on the Church’s liberty for the bishops to recognize this?

The state forcing private employers to buy employees health insurance, let alone the more intrusive dictate of what specifically such coverage must provide, usurps liberty. That an unelected bureaucrat, rather than an elected legislature, would issue an order not promulgated in the alleged enabling legislation assaults democracy. The one-size-fits-all order that men, post-menopausal women, and homosexuals purchase health insurance that pays for birth-control pills, RU-486 abortion pills, and other services that they cannot possibly use imposes a choice that none would freely make.

The catholic bishops are a joke! Not one got fired, or went to jail for the sex abuse scandals. Protect the so called church at all costs. This issue is a nice distraction. What a joke.

    • mrbean

Randy, I see that you skipped your anti psychotic medicine this morning. The government has no right to force doctors, nurses, or any of those who administer health services in private catholic hospitals to perfform abortions or act as agents for servicing the mandated distribution of government drugs period. Catholic hospitals are not an extension nor a support arm of the Planned Parenthood organization.

    • Jobe

Pardon me, but I see no connection between a power mad, arrogant, megalomaniacal and amoral president who casually violates the law of the land in an attempt to coerce millions to accept his illegitimate order, and a group of prelates who have shown that they lack the strength of character to do the right thing.

I'm 66 years old, have been a Catholic all of my life, and I, too, have done things of which I am deeply ashamed, and for which I pray for forgiveness. That notwithstanding, I recall when JFK was running for president and many claimed that if he won, the Pope would be ruling the country. Of course, that did not happen, but I never dreamed that such an OBVIOUSLY EGREGIOUS violation of the Constitution would be perpetrated by a different president.

This is a president gone mad! This man has such a bloated opinion of his position, his power, and his puny intellect that he believes his presidency supercedes the fundamental law of the land. This predidency is an ugly thing to watch.

    • irishsmile

Only 1.6% of priests abused! Check the John Jay Law School Report. 98.4% are great priests like my son who are giving their entire lives to Catholics and the church. Killing babies is not a distraction anymore than Adolph killing Jews in Germany before WWII was a distraction.

    • Doug

Actually the joke is that no matter the topic, you can only thing about gay man on boy sex.

    • carolyn foreman

i would think catholics, like everyone else, would like their contraceptives , etc. covered by their insurance. why does the catholic church not accept the fact that their members want to control the size of their families ??? and that they do !! why are citizens from catholic countries flooding our boarders so they, too, can take advantage of more freedom, and less restrictions on their ability to live a better life ???? i say to those bishops, join the 21st century !! c. foreman

    • Karl Reuss

Randy, it is apparent that you lack the intelligence to analice what you are reading or be it hearing, there is an old Quote by a senator " He appears to be intelligent, but upon opening his mouth he shatters the illusion " Could it be that you are the one he refered to, and you found the internet since.

    • Jim_C

Time for the Church to start paying taxes, methinks.

  • Michelle

This is just a nice little tool so the Muslims can keep breedind like rabbits, while we, by choice of our own, decrease in population. The US will be taken over by Sharia law, maybe not in my lifetime, but it will happen if or leaders dont wake the hell up.

  • Steve Chavez

And then Obama had the "Audacity" to say "my Christian faith" in yesterday's Prayer Breakfast which was actually another campaign con job!

He mentioned "the elderly" who he will eventually propose not charging a tax on their Depend's and Polident but "I Depend on you to vote for me in return." Then he mentioned the UNIVERSITY STUDENTS and their loans, which he will eventually, BEFORE THE ELECTION, to forgive and to demand that "next semester, if I am re-elected, will be free!" Then he cried about the Middle Class who is struggling to pay their bills, DUE TO THE HIGH HIS WAR ON GAS/OIL, and is proposing ANOTHER PLAN ON MORTGAGE AID. This morning a new one: Aid for Veteran employment when HE AND THE DEMOCRATS SPIT ON THE SOLDIERS WHILE THEY WERE ON THE BATTLEFIELD AND EVEN CLAIMING "THE WAR IS LOST" which is the ultimately IED!!!

HISPANICS, LIKE ME AND MOST IN NEW MEXICO, ARE BORN CATHOLICS AND DEMOCRATS! The Archbishop's letter read this past Sunday in our churches was a shocker. He mentioned Obamacare and Obama several times and I was shocked since I had never heard such a thing even though my son said they said "to not vote for Obama" due to his abortion stance three years ago. Yes, I'm still a Catholic but a Republican. So I went from eating hot dogs and hamburgers to eating steaks and lobster. I GREW UP! From Rock to Bach!

I DESPERATELY WANTED TO STAND UP AND ADD TO OBAMA'S SINS BUT I WAS AFRAID MY MOTHER WOULD HAVE PINCHED ME FROM HER GRAVE!

  • davarino

Like I have said before, I believe our religious institutions have been infiltrated by leftists, and in some cases, KGB.

    • Jack

In the 1950s, the brilliant Bishop Fulton Sheen had warned that this was already happening. The seminaries were being infiltrated. However, his warning was met with guffaws by the hierarchy. Now we are witnessing the truth about which he warned, in the crop of priests that were the product of these seminaries.

      • _John_Galt_

        Jack:

Your statement is very true. The infiltration was the work of two groups; i.e. international communism from the USSR, and homosexuals. Both groups have been trying to destroy the Church from within "….. and the gates of Hell will not prevail against you ….."

        • Jack

Since its founding by Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Catholic Church has had to prevail against many enemies from within and without and Obama is just one more in a long line. With Jesus' help, we shall overcome!

  • Adheeb

I certainly disagree with Mr. Obama about almost everything but in this particular case he is not to be blamed. He has been open about what he intended to do and has done it. The problem is with the stupidity of people thinking that Obama isn't telling them the truth about his intentions and/or their ability to somehow control him. People who voted for Obama are getting exactly what the deserve to get …. unfortunately others must suffer too.

    • Jobe

You are right! He told everyone who would listen that his intention was to fundamentally change America. He is doing so. He is turning a representative democracy into a liberal dictatorship. He is reducing our personal freedom, increasing our national debt, weakening our ability to defend ourselves, elevating Marxists and other anti-freedom people to high government office, building up a fortune for himself and his cronies, forcing the price of energy up to cause more government dependency, and doling out tax money to buy votes to maintain his power.

His non-Christianity was there for everyone to see. His incompetence, arrogance, and grasping greed, his oily ingratiating of himself into all areas of life, and all the other ugly faces of his rule were right up front. His allies in the media did not fail. They did not try to tell us who he was. Despite this, his non-record, his hidden academic career, and complete lack of work experience were accessable to the public.

  • StephenD

In some way, I don't doubt that this is a distraction. I say that because the Supreme Court will rule this portion invalid and then everyone will breathe a sigh of relief…even though the balance of Obamacare continues on unmitigated. I wouldn't doubt even then that the Catholic Church announces their acceptance after this part is taken down. It is like watching a stage show…only this has real consequences.

  • tanstaafl

If you dance with the devil, you're going to get burned.

I cannot believe this. Lord Barak will soon tell us Jews that the ban on pork in synogogues is over. Watch out Muslims, that means you too.

  • Dispozadaburka

    After Obama is re-elected,
he will announce that Musllms will be exempt,
from paying into his healthcare system.
The Muslims will reap the benefits that it provides,
thereby encouraging conversion to Islam among US citizens
who don't know what Islam is… (Pure Luciferian Doctrine)
It is a form of "Dhimmi tax."

What took Catholics so long to figure out what Housein the prayer rug kisser was up to? I guess they too were taken in by the grandiose speaches and the hope and change BS. I knew he was full of $hit from the very beginning. I can only hope that when November comes around Catholics won't make the same mistake twice and vote for the newly appointed leader of the Mus-Lim Brother-Hood

  • John Saunders-Smith

I am up to here with bishops and clergy of all shades and sizes poking their noses in politics and government. We in Britain had to recently witness a sorry sight of these bunches of numpties sticking their oars in and managing to derail a perfectly good bill that would have meant limiting maximum state benefit per family to £26k. Apparently these scroungers who have not done a day’s job in their lives and those on benefits think £60k hand out from the state in not enough!

Any of you unemployed Americans want an easy £100k, immigrate to UK, find youself a fat gullible unemployed British lass with ten kids from ten different fathers and marry her.

Sit back and wait for the dosh to roll in.

  • mrbean

Barack Hussein Obama was a practicing Muslim throughout his entire youth through high school, as an undergraduate at Occidental and Columbia Universities where he studied under his selected Marxist professors, at Harvard law school, after graduating Harvard Law School and even after passing the bar, and only converted for political reasons to the Marxist based Black Liberation Christian crackpot sect under the anti American, openly racist, anti semitic Reverend Jerimiah Wright when in his 30's. He is a clandestine Muslim Marxist racist who hates white people.

  • BLJ

No big surprise coming from the adminstration that wants to change America forever. I hope the Catholics who voted for this tool back in 2008 (despite the fact that he is PRO LIFE) are happy with their decision.

Obama is a muslim. He also went to the American hating racist Rev Wrights church for 20 years. Not a good combination for a President of the United States to have on his resume yet somehow he was elected in 2008.

I don't know about the rest of you, but Obama and his brownshirts are going to have to kill me before I bow before them. They are my enemy and I am proud to say that.

    • Jim_C

Bow down, BLJ!!! I demand it–in the name of President Barack Obama! Bow, now, I say! for the next 5 years, bow down!!! Bwahahhahahahhahaha!

Still talking Rev. Wright, huh? Still hoping that non-issue gets traction? "Obama's a Muslim." All I can say is, please–Say it loud and proud!

  • Joe R.

I did not hear this rebuke at my church, which is a Catholic Church and I go to church every Sunday.

If they had, I would have written them a letter informing them that the other party wants to start more wars, Obama has just ended one and will end the other one soon; Obama wants to reduce funding for the Defense Department; he cares about the poor; believes in a more equal society; believes all people should have healthcare; and does not simply believe that people should be left to their own devices and let the market take its course, etc…. To simply pick one piece of one of his many policies, and claim that he is anti-Catholic is foolish. Most Catholics are not single issue voters.

    • BLJ

This just confirms what I said in my post. Thanks for the help.

    • _John_Galt_

      Joe R:

I did; a letter from the Bishop was read at all masses this past weekend whereby a clear statement was presented that the Church will not be complying with illegal and immoral law. At long last, a line has been drawn. Now comes the follow through. Two items for consideration:

      1) No Christian in general or a Catholic in particular can vote for a liberal (Democrat) candidate or support a socialist leaning party and not commit sin!

      2) The Church has focused on social justice and "the poor" for far too long, and doing this at the expense of ignoring the evil of socialism and liberalism.

      John Galt

      • Jim_C

"The Church has focused on social justice and "the poor" for far too long"

The life and teachings of Jesus have been a MAJOR inconvenience to you rightwing Christians, haven't they? Maybe Joel Osteen should write a gospel?

        • The_John_Galt

          Jim_C:

Did it ever occur to you that the evil of socialism creates poverty, and that by its very nature leads to injustice!? All socialist governments have been failures, all have created poverty, all have murdered by the millions. Is that a major inconvenience? The "war" is against Satan and his minions, i.e. Obama, et al.

          • Jim_C

"The poor you will always have with you." There's poor people under every "-ism." Did that ever occur to you?

          • The_John_Galt

Yes; it does occur to me. One of the questions that must be asked is which actions, philosophies or systems tend to increase and which decrease poverty? I think that an objective analysis would show that the best way to elevate poverty and create prosperity is to promote a moral and free people. (There is of course much more involved but you get the meaning.)

    • Kathleen3

How do you like the train ride to Socialism?

Obama left Iraq people and now they are in danger of another civil war. Soon Afghan will follow.

While Russia, Iran, and China are increasing their defense budgets, we are tying up our hands.

He 'cares' about the poor by giving them other people's money without any plan to teach them how to fish.

He believes all people should have 'health care' so the government can dictate who will get the treatment and how.

Most Catholics are just too PC and dare not to think or speak otherwise. Now is the time for them to wake up!

    • watchdog

      Hey Joe R.

Obama's treatment of the poor as Lenin's useful idiots is not caring about the poor.

    • coyote3

What makes the "poor" any more deserving or virtuous than any other segment of society? The reasons you gave, are the very reasons I will not vote for Obama.

  • sedoanman

Re: “American Catholics, … have no such luck winning the administration’s religious toleration.”

Catholics are not asking for toleration. The only people who ask for toleration are those who know deep down they are doing something wrong. Mother Theresa never asked for toleration.

  • Dennis X

The supreme court gave broad ability to chruch sponsored institutions to hire whoever they want to. Why would the church hire someone who would need birth control? The the employee who does need access, aren't they being discriminated against ? 40% of women use birth contol for other reasons ie fighting against different cancers.

    • mrbean

Get it right Dennis. 40% of women are prescribed birth contol MEDICINES by their oncologists because they are effective in fighting against cetain types of cancers.

Why are folks not discussing 1871 and the change from the "Constitution for the United States for America", to the "Constitution of the United States of America"? Read the changes from 1776 to 1871 on the Constitution, it will blow your mind, however, you'll realize one thing? You were right the whole time.

  • DontBlameMe

Why not just Abstain and I don't only mean catholics. Would it not be worth the gains?

  • Kathleen3

The Catholic Church, the Obama administration, and the mainstream media take us for fools. If the CC adhered to its doctrine it would have strongly advised parishioners to not vote for Obama, who was an outspoken advocate for abortion. They didn't; rather, the majority of Catholics voted for Obama.

Once the Church agreed to be bought off by the government they then became beholden to the government. Smiles abounded on the faces of cardinals, bishops, and priests as they marched arm in arm with hordes of illegal aliens the government wants as future voters. There was utmost glee as the CC counted the government monies paid for refugee services, aiding and abetting illegal aliens and other such betrayals directed at the American taxpayers.

Bought and paid for they had no choice but to praise their benefactor's universal health care plan. Now that "what goes around comes around" has knocked on the CC's doors they think we should arise, en masse, and come to their defense? The CC is playing right into the hands of Obama. By refusing to pay premiums it will drive former members into a government sponsored program, which is the ultimate goal of this administration. One has to wonder if the CC does realize they are being paid to serve as the catalyst to get the ball rolling.

    • mrbean

Hey Catholics in MA voted for and supported Edward Kennedy, ( a divorced man), John Kerry (a divorced man), and Barney Frank ( a flaming queer), and as you said the Black Liberation Christian (condemned as Marxism) abortion avocate Obama. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

    • Jim_C

If the Church advocates one canddiate or another, it should have to pay taxes. End of story.

      • coyote3

        The churches do pay taxes.

  • Stuart Parsons

Oh my don't you Americans go on and on and on and on about healthcare. In the U.K and Europe we have, dare I say it, SOCIALISED medical care. It aint perfect, but it is pretty good and it is certainly a whole lot better than your 'lets make the insurance companies and doctors rich' system……. especially if your income is small or you are unemployed.

And if you do want 'pay through the nose, lets enrich the medical profession and insurance companies' private healthcare that is available too.

Our socialised medical care is supported by all political parties, They have to support it if they want the votes of the vast majority of the population, Dare I also say we practice income redistribution…. oh my God, I am sure that is really vile in American eyes.

And we have real democracy where a limit is placed on how much a candidate is allowed to spend on his campaign to be elected…… millionaires have little advantage over an unemployed person.

    • Jim_C

Not to mention, your political campaigns last a matter of weeks–not the absurd showbiz circus we have here.

We'll have socialized medicine eventually, in one form or another. The Swiss have a great balanced system that allows for competition and profit–just not at a basic level of care. These fools had no problem with insurance companies, drug companies and trial lawyers jacking our system, but try to fix it, as President Obama has? and you get called all sorts of names, particularly by people who don't even know words like "capitalism" and "s-c-lism" have actual definitions, not just boogeyman implications. This for trying to implement a system, mind you, that is to essentially what Nixon proposed.

And there's a name for income redistribution. It's called "having a society."

  • dougindeap

Some, including apparently the Church, have resorted to lies in their tirades against the health care law. Contrary to wild-eyed cries to the contrary, IT DOES NOT FORCE EMPLOYERS TO ACT CONTRARY TO THEIR BELIEFS. In keeping with the law, those with conscientious objections to providing their employees with qualifying health plans may decline to provide any health plans and pay an assessment instead or, alternatively, provide health plans that do not qualify (e.g., ones without provisions they deem objectionable) and pay lower assessments.

Questions about the government requiring or prohibiting something that conflicts with someone’s faith are entirely real, but not new. The courts have occasionally confronted such issues and have generally ruled that the government cannot enact laws specifically aimed at a particular religion (which would be regarded a constraint on religious liberty contrary to the First Amendment), but can enact laws generally applicable to everyone or at least broad classes of people (e.g., laws concerning pollution, contracts, fraud, crimes, discrimination, employment, etc.) and can require everyone, including those who may object on religious grounds, to abide by them. Were it otherwise and people could opt out of this or that law with the excuse that their religion requires or allows it, the government and the rule of law could hardly operate.

    • savvy

The laws you describe are a question of public safety, such as crimes, etc.

Contraception and abortion drugs are not. They are also available in other places.

The Administration is forcing individuals and institutions, including religious employers, to sponsor and subsidize what they consider immoral.

Less directly, the classification of these drugs and procedures as basic “preventive services” will increase pressures on doctors, nurses and pharmacists to provide them in order to participate in private health plans – and no current federal conscience law prevents that from happening.

Finally, because the mandate includes abortifacient drugs, it violates one of the “existing conscience protections” (the Weldon amendment) for which the Administration expresses “strong support.”

      • dougindeap

You offer reasons you oppose the law. Immaterial. The inquiry about whether to expand the exemption is not to revisit the merits of the law itself, but rather whether the law forces employers to act contrary to their moral beliefs and thus whether they should be granted an exemption. The fact is that the law does not force them to act contrary to their beliefs, so there is no legitimate need for an exemption.

The bishops are cynically lying about a false moral dilemma in order to stir up political support to roll back a law they just don't like.

    • Amused

Dont bother these tools with the FACTS …..to them all this translates down to " Woooo abortions forced on catholics " …..just like the "kill grandma farce " …at the end of the day it all comes back to the Hate Obama Syndrome , the truth gets tossed out the window , and reality becomes the wild machinationsand hallucinations of hatefull paranoids . However the Catholic Church finds itself today-their voise is loud enough for the rest of us to join the choir! Before it is too late,

Freedom through Faith just as our Founders intended.

  • Matt

One of two problems; either the Bishops didn't see this coming and did nothing or they did see it coming and did nothing. If they didnt see it, they should not be at level of Bishop. If they did see it coming, they are culpable.

  • guest

This is not about the Catholic Church. This is about religious liberty for all Americans. This is about the relentless attack Obama and his administration are making against all Americans and our constitution. I agree that the Church was rather blind when it came to supporting Obama and in supporting his socialized medicine plan, however, Obama has taken that and turned it into an all out assault on all of us. Remember, they came for this group and I didn't stand up, they came for that group and I didn't stand up, they came for me and there was no one left to stand up for me.
Americans had better start putting their ideological differences behind them or kiss their liberty goodbye. Obama is not your ordinary politician.

  • Brujo Blanco

Obama has been one credited with caring for the poor and creating health care for everyone. Obama cares only about himself. Unless stopped he will force organized religion theough this health care legislation to either violate the tenets of their religion regarding health care or suffer the wrath of government. I suspect that those health care professionals that do not toe the line and act in accordance of their religious beliefs will suffer the consequences.

http://www.healthcare.gov According to this site, civil disobedience wouldn't be necessary though a difficult decision might be: Larger businesses would be able to pay a fine and not directly cover employee health insurance. The fine is to cover the tax credits employees would likely receive. Small businesses, employing less than 50, wouldn't be fined for choosing not to provide. A rock and a hard place.

  • NotaBene

Actually it’s the Catholic Church which is trampling on the rights of people who rely on them for vital services, forcing them to abide by Catholic dogma whether they believe in Catholicism or not.

Most Catholics support abortion and birth control. As usual it’s the hierarchy that’s out of touch.

    • savvy

The church is not forcing anybody to become Catholic. It just asking not be forced to pay for these things.

The other argument is irrelevant. If a group of people lied, cheated on their taxes, or had sex outside of marriage. Should the government force everybody else to do so?

      • NotaBene

What the hell are you babbling about?

  • Jess

It never ceases to amaze me how truly dumb Americans are. President Obama is NOT A MUSLIM. President Obama is a Christian. I was born and raised Catholic, so did that make you some sort of "know it all" like the evangelical Christians against everything who feel they have the right to tell people what to do. RELIGION AND YOUR FAITH DOES NOT MAKE YOU GOD. You have NO RIGHT to tell anyone anything. Thank God for the President who realizes that NO RELIGION can tell a woman what to do with her body. You racist pigs are all going to hell and God will sit in judgment of you as you are sitting judgment of others, the President of the United States of America and women.

    • Flowerknif_us

Sorry Jess. Sane people understand that God would not aprove of a Woman aborting her unborn child.

I really don't know for sure why God would feel that way-it just seems to be the way God expects his children to be cared for.Just like you were-at least in the early years.

    • watchdog

Perhaps a little judgemental yourself Jess.

Jesus will judge – not you or Obama or me –

      The Bible says –

      Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart;

1 Corinthians 6:20 – "you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."

Believe me on this Jess, abortion does not honor God.

  • Amused

catholics of the US , run fer yer lives !! Obama's gonna make you abort all yer babies …

  • Joe E

Marital sex without contraception is true lovemaking. Is that really so hard to believe?

And the Buddhists are against contraception too, though for different reasons. It’s a way to learn some discipline, say the Buddhists. It’s a way to make sex into true lovemaking, open to life, which is much more exciting, say the Catholics.

Think about the brothers and sisters you’d have, if your parents hadn’t used so much contraception.

A contraceptive mentality toward sex makes sex less enjoyable.

A 48 year old woman I know died from a stroke, from 30 years of oral contraceptive usage.

Always using contraceptives, year after year, just doesn’t lead to happiness. You’ll have better sex if your sex life is open to children.

It’s not always easy to follow, but it’s a good teaching.

    • Jim_C

I agree, it's a beautiful teaching. But it's not relevant to the discussion.

  • Amused

….and a 50 year old woman died of a stroke after birthing 17 children .In India where there is virtually no birth control , many have large numbers of children , many of which go under nourtished and either die young or go through life with horrendous handicaps .In many African countries , uncontrolled populations outstrip the land's ability to feed them , hence unbelievable famines occur an literal millions die every every year .Great human suffering fort what ? The sake of more gratifying sex ? Unwed moters in western countries give birth to fatherless children and the social result is high crime rates .
You can't have it both ways ,and not all contraceptive methods are not chemically based as in oral contraceptives . There are condoms , intra-uterine devices and that ole' catholic practice [but rarely utilized ] rythym method . Now that "dirty word " …omigosh …."planned parenthood " which most religioius zealots deem as abortion . Whereas planned parenthood is nothing more than education as to the consequences of teen pregnancies , and standard contraception methods . There are however fanatics who would outlaw contraception which is overkill for anti-abortion positions

This whole argument , like many of Michelle 's rants of disinformation , is meant to foment the zealots . There is nothing here that will "force abortion down the throats of Catholics , and NO , Michelle ,nor does it force the use of contraceptives . Again like many authors on this blog , Malkin depends on the IGNORANCE , and overall LAZINESS of her audience regarding the FACTS of a particular issue . Far mor DANGEROUS than anything found in Obama Care , notions like that of Santorum ,who would ban contraceptives altoghether , and even abortions to save the life of the mother [ which btw his own wife did in FACT undergo] pose a far greaster threat to individual and religious freedoms . But around here , as Michelle well knows , the tossing of REDMEAT evokes the expected pavlovian response . Just like the "kill grandma " lie , this one is sure to resonate amongst the ignorant , who for the most part have not even read the provisions that they're ranting about .

It may come to pass that dear leader loses a great portion of the Catholic, Jewish, and Christian vote for his stomping on the Constitution regarding freedon of religion.

  • Amused

Again …ignorance reigns . Just for the hell of , ask any group of catholics you choose , if they practice the "rythum method " of contraception …..because that is the ONLY form truly in line with Roman Catholic dogma .
But maybe all of you here are naive about what that is …..after all if the Bishops says so , it must be correct ….yea , just like their behavior regarding tye handling of pedophiles within their flock .The law against public/federal funding for abortion still stands ,and what the zealots want , is the same for condoms and other methods of contraception .
So for all you altruistics out there ….who practices the ryhtum method of contraception ?

LOL….hope you got yer calenders handy ….and correctly marked . my oh my …hypocrites ALL .

  • http://PatrickofAtlantis.com Patricius

No one who lies as much as Obama lies can be good. The Bishops should have known that.

  • Amused

The catholic bishops are hardly an example of moral terpitude . And there's no shortage of ignorance regarding the actual issue at large …..as most of the posts here clearly indicate .

Do you ever tire of throwing stones?

Have you ever thanked your Mother for being out of rythum?
Or did she forget her pill?
      The Rubber broke?
The vaganal cream was poorly applied?
      A not so hasty retreat?
Or was someone thinking it couldn't happen to them?

It is really hard to fathom the thinking of some who really believe a faith based organization be forced to pay for medical procedures that would have prevented you being here. No matter what some may feel society would have benifited from had the procedure been preformed. There is still something fundimentally wrong with it.

See for yourself the results of someone not having an abortion-look in the mirror.

      • Amused

save your bulllssheet , and no , I never tire of throwing stoners ….at ignoramus'. I do not favor abortion , nor would I ever recommend it unless to save the life of the mother , but I also do not approve of overzealous fools who totally blow an issue out of proportion , who would incite to kill , but moist of all , I donnt wanna have a bunch of pedophiled approving bastards dictating whether I should use a condum or a birth control pill . The trouble with catholic bishops and priests is that they need to be allowed to marry ……..so they can leave the nations children alone .

  • NotaBene

Considering the views of most Catholics, this should really be titled ‘The President and Catholics vs. Catholic Bishops’.

    • Jim_C

Pretty much. The Church under Benedict has been stealthily pushing an overt conservative agenda in sermons and public statements. They really think they'll "purify" the many sins of the Church by shrinking it and making it less attractive to the more liberal congregation. This is a Pope who came out against yoga at one point. It's an outlandishly silly organization that conversely happens to have many wonderful points–despite its piss-poor leadership.

    You reap what you sow.
The Catholic church went along with socialized medicine, when you go to bed with dogs you wake up with fleas.
Lets face it folks you who voted for the LIAR in CHIEF have forfeited your freedoms to the
Marxists. Hope you enjoy the sorrows you have bestowed on the once greatest country in the world.

  • Jim_C

I love that this is somehow the Church's fault because it supports universal health care. Logic need not apply, here!

    i am an abuse victim.
it took me until 39 yrs old to start recalling events from my childhood because of post traumatic amnesia.

i wish i had 1.6% of catholic valued assets here in the u.k.
my point being – 1.6% OF HOW MANY PRIESTS! !!

The catholic ” church ” should be closed down and their amassed £trillions used in a true Christian way.

I wish this was the case, but it's not. In this case, they are not adding this into their paycheques, but are being forced to buy this plan. Even the women who object to it can't opt out, without paying fines.
