1984 Watch: A Reality TV Show to Promote ObamaCare

We live in a free country where it is illegal to make a movie mocking Mohammed and where television networks will dedicate entire television shows to promoting a government program for your own good. It’s not 1984. Maybe it’s 2013.
Plans are being discussed to pitch a reality television show about “the trials and tribulations of families living without medical coverage,” according to the Ogilvy plan. The exchange will also seek to have prime-time television shows, like “Modern Family,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and Univision telenovelas, weave the health care law into their plots.
“I’d like to see 10 of the major TV shows, or telenovelas, have people talking about ‘that health insurance thing,’ ” said Peter V. Lee, the exchange’s executive director. “There are good story lines here.”
If you needed another reason to cancel your cable, here you go.
Just to parse the horrifying ethics of this, there will be a Reality Show by millionaires dedicated to showing how badly people live without health insurance. And Equal Time? Forget about it. We are moving into the age where television exists for no other reason than to promote liberal pieties and government programs, where no one really watches it anymore, but it’s always around because the message has to be put out there.

Winston kept his back turned to the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing. A kilometre away the Ministry of Truth, his place of work, towered vast and white above the grimy landscape.
The Ministry of Truth — Minitrue, in Newspeak — was startlingly different from any other object in sight. It was an enormous pyramidal structure of glittering white concrete, soaring up, terrace after terrace, 300 metres into the air. From where Winston stood it was just possible to read, picked out on its white face in elegant lettering, the three slogans of the Party:
WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
…or you know, it could just say HOLLYWOOD
