3 Chicago children shot in separate incidents
A young girl and her mother were shot inside their home while sleeping on the Far South Side on Calumet Avenue early Thursday.
Overnight, a 1-year-old child sleeping in bed was wounded in the head by a bullet fired from outside.
Another child is being treated at Christ Hospital. One-year-old Jayilah Allen has a gunshot wound to the head.
“This is ridiculous,” Katina Allen said. “Kids come shoot up your house. My little niece is one year old, battling for her life.”
The baby and her mother, Tonishia Allen, were asleep when a bullet ripped through a relative’s west Pullman home about 1:30 Thursday morning.
“My daughter was laying on the kitchen floor and my baby was still in the bed,” Allen’s mother Tina Cornell said. “I went to check on them and that’s when I realized they had been shot.”
That’s just life… with gun control .
Two boys, 12 and 14 years old, were playing football Thursday afternoon in the Roseland neighborhood when they were hit by gunfire.
A half block away, Ravon’s family, whose members are moving next month, describes the panic that set in.
“He came limping and then he fell and said, Ma, he got shot,” said Jennifer Green, Ravon Thompson’s aunt.
It works. It really does .
Only eight blocks separate the home of Heaven Sutton, the second-grader killed June 27 by bullets meant for someone else, and the home of the man charged with shooting her
A school bus filled with children enrolled at Our Lady Of Guadalupe elementary school was apparently shot at in the South Deering neighborhood on Friday.
A bullet struck a seat and two windows, but none of the approximately 25 children on the bus or the driver was wounded.
Treyvon Robinson, 8, played with his friends in the front yard and danced to music playing at a birthday party a few houses down in the 7100 block of South Wood Street.
Then the shots rang out, and Hershell Robinson saw Treyvon spin and fall.
“He was standing there by that fence post,” he said. “I think I heard three shots. Other people said they heard four, but I stopped counting when I saw him fall.”
On the other side of the city, a 12-year-old girl was playing with her friend at Mason Park, at Karlov and Maypole avenues when a gunman emerged from a nearby alley and opened fire.
Her friend, Shacoya Collins, also 12, was on the swings nearby when the shots rang out. Shacoya said she crawled over to where her friend was sprawled on the ground near the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to her right ankle and left buttock.
Everyone is safe.
Police said 19 people were injured in shootings across the South and West sides of Chicago overnight, 13 of whom were shot within a 30 minute period around 9 p.m… the victims ranged from 14 to 28 years old.
Gun control. It really works.
