Abu Dhabi Media’s Hollywood Propaganda

As Heritage has pointed out, The Promised Land, the troubled piece of lefty Hollywood agitprop aimed at the domestic oil industry is actually financed by the international oil industry. (Something it has in common with B.O.)

A new film starring Matt Damon presents American oil and natural gas producers as money-grubbing villains purportedly poisoning rural American towns. It is therefore of particular note that it is financed in part by the royal family of the oil-rich United Arab Emirates.

This isn’t the first time that the UAE have dabbled in Anti-American Hollywood propaganda. While Imagenation Abu Dhabi does produce legitimate movies like Men in Black 3 (if that’s your idea of legitimate) and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (okay they’re just burying America in crap), they have been known to push propaganda before.

Imagenation backed Unfair Game, a movie trying to blow up the Valerie Plame scam into a blockbuster flick. That movie failed, but The Promised Land may not, and considering the UAE’s Holocaust denial thing, it probably won’t be long before they push a Holocaust denial movie too.

The good news here is that Imagenation Abu Dhabi is pretty terrible at the Hollywood game. Their track record includes Furry Vengeance, Gibson’s redemption movie, The Beaver, Shorts and The Double. If those movies are only ringing faint bells in your head, it’s because they all failed.

Imagenation Abu Dhabi did have one major success. The Help.

"and considering the UAE’s Holocaust denial thing" please provide the link to validate this statement.

Oh dear Daniel, if that is your validation, Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, which has as much enmity towards Arab nations, as Arab nations have for Israel and their propagandists.

I was hoping for validation from a less coloured source.

If JCPA is "coloured" as you claim, show where they are distorting the truth or lying outright. No one here will take your word for it.

You only have to imply moral equivalence and in the mind of a liberal, you've won the argument.

          • @rupertbu

How awful to just accept the words of propaganda without questioning.

Neither side is correct in their emotive reactions.

I am not concerned about your assertion "No one here will take your word for it." I prefer dealing with folks who can think for themselves, not the flocks of sheep that stumble around this globe.

Let's just hope they STAY bad. Troma Studios needs competition in the bad films department.

They also help back/Produce these films: Men in Black 3, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Contagion, The Help, The Beaver, and The Crazies. If they produce 'all kinds' of films, how can you accuse them of only promoting anti-American propaganda. There were several backers/Producers for this film. It wasn't produced solely by Imagenation Abu Dhabi (which is a Media company, by the way). It could have been produced without them. Their company name amongst the Producers credit doesn't 'discredit' the film.

It's just a fracking movie (pun intended).
