Air Force Falls Apart While Obama Plots Even More Cuts

Because you know it’s not horses and bayonets anymore. It’s pilots risking their lives in 60 year old planes from the Eisenhower Administration. Can we get a meme and tumblr on that from Team Big Bird? No. Okay.

F-15s were first introduced in 1972 and, at the time, had a service life of about 4,000 hours. Since then, the service life of these planes has doubled, and with scheduled defense cuts looming, there is already talk about extending them further.

F-15s were first introduced in 1972 and, at the time, had a service life of about 4,000 hours. Since then, the service life of these planes has doubled, and with scheduled defense cuts looming, there is already talk about extending them further.

General Deptula expresses concerns about the average age of the F-15 C & D models approaching 30 years. In 2007, an F-15 broke in half during a training mission in St. Louis, Missouri. Afterward, every F-15 was grounded, and they remained so for months. Aircraft falling apart is costly during peacetime, but it can be fatal during wartime, warns the General. After earning his wings flying an F-15 in 1977, the General’s own son flew the very same F-15 some 30 years later, while stationed at Kadena Air Force Base in Japan.

Earlier this year, the B-52 celebrated its 60th anniversary. Older than the F-15, the B-52 bomber is another relic still operated today. While a state-of-the-art plane in the 1960s, its capability to operate against advanced enemy air defenses has been rendered obsolete.

Currently, the U.S. Air Force flies about 400 KC-135s. As the military’s main aerial refueler, the most recent of these planes is nearly a half-century old.

Following the discovery of cracks in their wings, the Air Force’s A-10 Thunderbolts are currently in the process of being rewinged.

According to Fox News, the Air Force has plans to replace the KC-135 refuelers with new KC-46A refuelers, but, “if Congress has its way, some [KC-135s] could still be taking off well into the 2040s,” which would then make these planes almost 80 years old.

Who would force pilots to risk their lives like this while undermining American national security? Same guy who only authorized the raid on Bin Laden in order to capture him alive and give him a civilian trial to put an end to Gitmo and Military Tribunals. A radical leftist who hates America and its military, elected by other radical leftists who spent hundreds of millions of dollars on his behalf.

    Obama's Air Farce?

  • SCREW SOCIALISM

When the American hostages of the Islamofascist Regime of Iran were released when Reagan was inaugurated, one of the former hostages was asked whether he would ever want to return to the Islamofascist entity, he replied:

    Yes. In a B-52.

  • amused

B-52's have been undergoing constant upgrades over the years .They have articipated in all conflicts ton date . They are not considered relics by the USAF .

  • Mary Sue

Risking their lives in 60 year old Aircraft?

Welcome to Canada's Sea Kings debacle.

  • amused

The number of B-52 H & G models is 76 .Their projected Aero-frame life expectancy is until 2040 .They have an operating range of 8800 miles ,a payload capacity of 70,000 lbs , they can carry and launch 20 cruise missiles ,maximum[unclassified] speed is 632 knots .Up to 45 different types or ordnance -bombs , various types of missiles can be accomodated by the B-52 models H&G the first of which was delivered in 1961 . The B52 equals or exceeds as a long range heavy bomber ,any thing the Russians and british have . Jaynes lists it among the top ten heavy bombers in air forces .

  • amused

Defense cuts will be made on a per case basis , and there's no reason to assume that any president would be willing to let the USAF "go to shambles " , and as far as anything " Fox news " has to say ,all must be taken with the usual anti-Obama grain of salt .Afte this past 4 years , one should seriously question and fact check Fox , as it has been called out numerous times on their "stories " Ruppert. Murdock's whole organization , lacks credibility especially after the lies that went on over in the U.K.
Murdock is openly critical of Obama and has made no bones about his public pontifications .

    • PaulRevereNow

So what new planes is the USAF introducing? What modernization programs are currently underway?
The B-52 is a great airplane; but what about the fighter planes? Can they still outfly and outfight MIG-23's, or the SR-71 Blackbirds?(a 2200 mph airplane)

    • PaulRevereNow

…and what''s wrong with criticizing Obama? Somebody has to do it.

    • Old Submariner

Hey, amused, you must have missed the article that Pew Institute did a study & MSNBC is the most biased. Much more so than Fox. I have a couple of kids that think like you do! My wife & I question ourselves all of the time – where did we go wrong. We have some smart kids too so it equals out.

    • erica

In January Panetta cut defense spending $487 billion.

BCA-mandated DOD budget cuts plus sequestration would cut defense spending $1.087 trillion, not counting the savings resulting from withdrawal from Afghanistan.

As testified to by Obama’s SECDEF,the Joint Chiefs, DOD officials, and confirmed by independent analysts – sequestration would completely gut the military.

These cuts won’t go back to the taxpayers or for paying off the debt, but instead will be added to the coffers of the entitlement programs.

    • Mary Sue

Hilary was openly critical of GWB, and whined that criticizing the President doesn't make you Unpatriotic. Was she wrong?

Obama's an ideologue about "peace" and defense. He'll do what he wants, what he THINKS will cause peace. This is not necessarily what will keep USA safe except in his delusional mind.

  • amused

Keep questioning yourselves Old Submariner , just remember the fruit dont fall too far from the tree . Apparently the USAF , is not complaining about a crumbling Air Force , and it's certainly not complaining about the Mission/Combat Readiness of the B52 H & G .We have stealth bombers , and jet fighter bombers .If so , the USAF would not be planning to outfit the fleet of B-52 with a new type engine . B52's are part of the US TRIAD -Subs /ICBM's /Long Range heavy Nuclear capable Bombers .
BTW I dont listen to FOX for anthing credible . In fact that may be your problem with those couple of kids ….you left them in front of the TV when you had Fox on .

    • Mary Sue

I don't watch fox, I watch Sun News Network.

    • FPF

So it's true that you discriminate against age.

  • amused

Paul RevereNow , there's nothing wrong with criticizing Obama as long as it is valid and not partisan based as is 99.9 % of the articles and authors on this blog .Unless you like to refute that claim ? Citing B52's as evidence of a crumbling Air Force , and then tagging it to Obama , especially when Democrats AND Republicans voted on Cuts and neither you nor I , FPM nor FOX knows what they will be ,and where , I find the Title of this article and its obvious purpose a bit specious at best .,and just more sour grapes due to losing the election , at worst .

    • erica

      Blahblahblah.
You know more than everyone .
Every author on this site is an idiot compared to you.
      Every article is a lie.
You repeat yourself on every post. Why bother posting ?
Go make your own website to trash people on. You are repetitious and boring.

    • Mary Sue

      All criticism is partisan.

    • PaulRevereNow

Mr. Amused, you know better than that. You know that FPM has been talking for a long time about Obama's drastic cuts to our military, and the only thing it has to do with the election, is that the Zero's re-election has ensured that those cuts 'to our military will continue. And not only financial cuts, but psychological cuts as well, such as making our troops pay three times as much for their health insurance, and future Benghazis. As I said above, the fighter planes are at least as important as the B-52. Didn't you see the video of that USAF General, and how he was complaining that his son flew in the very same F-15 that he did, back in 1972? And that as a result of the tremendous G forces on aging F-15
fleet, one nearly broke apart in mid-flight? The USAF needs new planes, and they're not getting them.

    • FPF

I am waiting for you to criticize Obama. Any?

  • amused

P.S. PaulRevereNow , FYI the SR-71 is a high altitude spy plane , and never was designed to be a fighter or bomber , nor was it a USAF plane ,it was built and designd for the CIA at the skunkworks for TWO purposes- to take high resolution pictures and fly faster and higher than enemy missles could reach .There is no aircraft in the world than can fly faster than the SR-71 which BTW has been retired with the advent of numerous satellites which can do the same .To this day it's top speedis still classified information , but it's reported unclassified speed is faster than anything anywhere .

    • PaulRevereNow

Since you havent' answered my question asking about new planes the USAF has received, see my comment above.

    About Daniel Greenfield

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is a New York writer focusing on radical Islam. He is completing a book on the international challenges America faces in the 21st century.

Can you add insightful and brilliant to this ?

  • amused

These are just the fighter/bomber and tanker assets . Hardly in shambles .Stress crakes in aeroframes can occur in less than five years ,this occurs in mainly pressurized aircraft . This is wh aircraft are inspected .However , I would agree if tankers which are essential , a full review is in order . The author has not mentioned what the results of those are .One thing is for sure , of the 460 odd tankers , I doubt that all all not flight worthy , and those hat are not are addresses as a matter of routine .

  • amused

So Mary Sue , no , US pilots are NOT " risking their lives ".

    • Mary Sue

If they have the equivalent of Sea Kings then yes, yes they are. Read up on the Sea Kings and you'll see what I mean.

  • amused

And Daniel , how do you rationalize a remark such as this :

A radical leftist who hates America and its military, elected by other radical leftists who spent hundreds of millions of dollars on his behalf.

You got issues Daniel . That's a whole lotta hatred there , and a pretty big piece of slander without proof . But I guess the word "opinion " saves you from liability .

    • Mary Sue

Bill Clinton himself loathed the military and said so. It is not out of the realm of possibility that BO does as well.

    • Daniel Greenfield

Which part of this is slander? Please clarify.

    • PaulRevereNow

Mr. Amused, its easy to show Obama hates the military. He's making them pay triple for their health insurance; he's denied overseas troops the vote, he calls the Ft. Hood massacre "Workplace violence." He saw live streaming video of the US Embassy in Libya under attack for hours, and refused to order military aid for our Ambassador and three others; not only because he was afraid of the effect a failed rescue might have on his election chances, but because he didn't want us to find out that he was giving arms to Al-Qaeda and the MB in Syria, our enemies. THAT is treason. So tell me again…how is what Greenfield says slander?

      • Mary Sue

oh don't you know, it's slander because amused-bouche doesn't agree with it! [/sarcasm]

  • FPF

A remark such as this makes no sense to radical leftists because they despise the truth and ignore the facts. But a remark such as this makes all sense to all others who want the truth and wish the best for America and the people.

  • Tim

I Am a recently retired US Air Force Pilot, and I can tell everyone, this concern Daniel is raising is VERY real. We need a whole new generation of aircraft to keep defending America into the future. We've designed them, but this government will not buy them. The F-15 Was the greatest fighter in history, but it's worn out. You can only extend & upgrade so long, we're way past time. We needed about 800 F-22s to replace all our F-15s, but we only got 187.

We've been asking for years for the next heavy bomber, can't even get a prototype funded. B-52 is a great jet, but at some point, you've got to invest in the next generation, take advantage of all our advances.

It is the same in all our services, we have been fighting for 11 years now and our equipment needs an overhaul.

    • Raymond in DC

If Obama wanted to promote tens of thousands of high-skill, high-paying jobs, he could have pursued the F-22 project; instead, it was shut down. Aging F-15s could have been replaced by newer generation SE models; that's not happening either. The only game in town seems to be the F-35 – years behind schedule and growing ever more costly.
