That'd be ME.

I live in an old motorhome. There's a leak in the roof. The heat isn't adequate when it gets real cold. I have an old car that needs a lot of work. I work part time at just above the minimum wage. Nobody will hire me for anything else because I'm too old and have health problems. What was supposed to be my retirement is getting used up.

Yeah, I'm poor. If I lived somewhere where there were ANY opportunities, that wouldn't be the case.

I am Soooooo fed up with people who go on and on about how the US is the best country ever, just because THEY were born here.

If you are referring to the fact that many poverty-stricken US citizens have TV sets, cars, CD players, and some food in the fridge; whereas 19th century Americans had none of these things, then you are correct. However, if you are living in a trailer, with little or no heat in the winter, and a hole in the roof, while your ride is a 1963 Volvo 522; then you're living in poverty. While doing some work for a friend a few years ago, I visited southern Ohio, and the living situation of many fitted this description.

0 poverty rate, really? I guess you have never been to Appalachia, or down to the deep south in some of the parishes in Louisiana or the country in Mississippi. You might could make an argument for a lower rate than is being reported, but 0 is just a fantasy. The US Census bureau reports the poverty rate at 15.1%.

it said the rate of poverty not the amount. Poverty is always relative but in any country it's the measure of whether someone can afford to survive.

Is this article a joke? There is no comparison between a poor person in the US and one in Syria.

When poverty rates are calculated no government benefits are included. No earned income tax credit, no Medicaid, no unemployment insurance, no welfare payments, no subsidized housing and no Food Stamps.

Add these together and you will discover that the true poverty rate in the US is zero.
