Anti-Bullying is the New Bullying

South Park, as often, was actually ahead of its time with its sendup of anti-bullying hysteria in the curriculum. But anti-bullying is really a Trojan Horse for moving leftist social issues deeper into the classroom. The constant parade of weepy students discussing how they were bullied is really a vehicle for attacking and outlawing religious values.
In Canada, Laurel Broten, Ontario’s Minister of Education announced that Catholic schools could not teach that abortion was wrong under anti-bullying doctrines .
We do not allow and we’re very clear with the passage of Bill 13 that Catholic teachings cannot be taught in our schools that violates human rights and which brings a lack of acceptance to participation in schools…
Bill 13 has in it a clear indication of ensuring that our schools are safe, accepting places for all our students. That includes of LGBTQ students. That includes young girls in our school. Bill 13 is about tackling misogyny, taking away a woman’s right to choose could arguably be one of the most misogynistic actions that one could take
What is Bill 13 ?
Passed in June, Bill 13 was formulated in response to a series of teen suicides by students who were victims of bullying from their peers. It requires schools to provide “a positive school climate that is inclusive and accepting, regardless of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital status, family status or disability”. The act specifically mandates that schools – Catholic Separate Schools included – establish “gay-straight alliance” organizations be available where requested
Here’s how it works
1. Talk about the problem of bullying. Pick out a teenage suicide to exploit.
2. Use the manufactured outcry to pass a law whose real purpose is to promote the left’s social agenda
3. Use the law to override any religious values based dissent against that social agenda
Wrap the whole ugly thing in talk of “inclusivity” and “safe spaces” for all students, when in reality the school is excluding most students, endangering others and making it unsafe to be anything but a parrot for the dogma of the left.
Rather than opposition to bullying, the anti-bullying campaign is a collectivist group rights treatment which stacks people based on the victim group that they belong to and assigns them “protections” based on that group. Since young girls are all in need of abortion, then opposing abortion in any way is a violation of the group identity inclusivity doctrine.
Orwell? No, Ontario.
Now back to the good old US of A, where the New York Times and a number of other outlets are loudly ridiculing the American Family Association’s opposition to Mix It Up Day, a project of the Southern Poverty Law Center, the richest civil rights organization in the country, to, supposedly, break down cliques and social boundaries.
On Mix It Up at Lunch Day, schoolchildren around the country are encouraged to hang out with someone they normally might not speak to.
“I was surprised that they completely lied about what Mix It Up Day is,” said Maureen Costello, the director of the center’s Teaching Tolerance project, which organizes the program. “It was a cynical, fear-mongering tactic.”
Although the suggested activities for Mix It Up at Lunch Day do not expressly address gay and lesbian students, the law center itself promotes equal treatment for gays and lesbians and that philosophy then informs the school program, he said.
But the idea that the program is intended as homosexual indoctrination is simply wrong, Ms. Costello added.
“We’ve become used to the idea of lunatic fringe attacks,” she said, “but this one was complete misrepresentation.”
Since this is the New York Times, it’s understood that everything you just read is one big heaping pack of lies.
The SPLC’s Teaching Tolerance site has extensive guidance for teachers on how to officially teach Tolerance (TM). Under “Mapmaking and Boundaries Crossing for Mix It Up” we come to proposed activities by age level.
The lesson plan for Grades 3-5 is about Racism and Brown v. Board of Education. For Grades 6-12 under Controversial Issues, it’s gay rights . And yes it’s an attack on religion.
Controversial Topic: “You’re so gay!”
“Being gay is a sin.”
Gay people believe they are born gay, that it isn’t a choice. Therefore, it’s not a sin.
So yes, Mix It Up Day, is very much about gay rights. Lying about it is dishonest and also a sin. But it’s not up to secular schools to teach what is or isn’t a sin. And that’s the real issue.
Some forms of religion think that homosexuality is just fine. Others that are biblically minded think it’s a sin. In a free country, both sides get to teach their religion to their children. In an unfree country, one side gets to teach their religion and the other side has its religion banned.
Naturally none of this applies to Muslims. Because when freedom of religion goes away, then the only people who get to teach their religions are those who impose their way by force, whether it’s deceptively through anti-bullying measures or openly through violence.
