Are Israel and Obama About to Clash Over Syrian WMDs?

Obama Inc. have declared that Assad’s use of chemical weapons against the Islamic rebels in Syria would constitute a “red line” that would make intervention mandatory. Meanwhile Obama’s people are training the Syrian Islamist rebels to secure Syrian WMDs.

What that really means is training Muslim Brotherhood affiliated militias over Al Qaeda affiliated militias. Setting aside all the issues with the Muslim Brotherhood, the practical difference between the two is often slight. Both rely on bands of fighters under commanders who have been known to shift their loyalties around. Or to put it another way, imagine counting on a biker gang to secure a bank vault and a few ICBMs. That’s the insane policy here.

Israel has declared that it has its own red line and there is every reason to believe that its red line differs from Obama’s in one important area.

“We have a very clear red line about those weapons passing into the wrong hands,” Oren told Fox News.

“Were those weapons to pass into the wrong hands, into Hezbollah’s hands for example, that would be a game changer for us.” Armed with chemical weapons and a large cache of rockets, Oren said, the terrorist group could kill “thousands of people.”

The Israeli red lines differ from those set by US President Barack Obama, who issued a warning to Syrian President Bashar Assad on Monday not to use such weapons against opposition forces.

Oren is warning Assad not to transfer his WMD stockpiles to Hezbollah, which is only loosely at counter-purposes with Obama, but Hezbollah is being used as an example of a terrorist group. And most of the Syrian rebels are aligned with their own terrorist groups.

Israel, reportedly, has people on the ground in Syria already, and may well be prepared to move in if the weapons leave the control of the Syrian government. Israel took out a Syrian nuclear reactor, and its strikes in Sudan show that it is prepared to carry out attacks on weapons that route their way to Israel. It’s quite likely that Israel is preparing to carry out strikes against any Syrian WMD facilities at risk into falling into the hands of the Syrian rebels, who are intertwined with Hamas and Al Qaeda.

These strikes are the last thing that Obama wants. From the diplomatic perspective, Israeli strikes on Syria would allow Assad to distract the Arab world from the civil war and refocus its attention on Israel. And that would undermine Obama’s effort to remove Assad.

But WMDs are not an area where Israel is likely to back off. Obama has no problem with the Muslim Brotherhood’s militias getting its hands on chemical weapons. Israel does.

Israel is but a short drive away from nerve gas and contagious germ warfare weapons. These weapons are already in the wrong hands. If they are used by Assad,or by the U.S. trained "rebels", or by hamas-hezbollah-al qaeda, et al ; the deaths could be in the millions world wide. These wicked weapons must be neutralized by any means necessary, if the four horsemen of the apocalypse are not to ride.

From the Libya debacle, we saw what happened when US and NATO forces failed to secure Qaddafi's weapons arsenal: The insurgents got their hands on them and those weapons were transferred to forces hostile to the US and Israel. Some of them ended up in Gaza.

Now Obama is expecting Israel to stand down as even more dangerous weapons potentially fall to hostile forces right on Israel's borders? I don't think so. Those WMDs either need to be secured by our own forces or they need to be destroyed outright.
