Score another one for the New York Times and the ACLU.
Both Messrs. Hasady and Ben Qumu were picked up by Pakistani authorities after the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 and were turned over to the U.S. Mr. Hasady was released to Libyan custody two months later. Mr. Ben Qumu spent six years at Guantanamo Bay before he was turned over to Libyan custody in 2007. They were both released from Libyan prisons in 2008 as part of a reconciliation with Islamists in Libya.
That reconciliation was brokered by the Muslim Brotherhood and it did Gaddafi in. There’s a lesson for us in that as well.
Until recently the New York Times was making disapproving noises about the Libyan Islamists that we turned over to Gaddafi. Not that we freed them, but that we abandoned them to the mercy of a terrible tyrant. That terrible tyrant let them go because of the doings of his idiot Western educated son.
According to Fox’s sources, Sufyan Ben Qumu (whose name has also been listed as Sofiane Ibrahim Gammu) may have led the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi. That attack led to the deaths of four Americans including US Ambassador Christopher Stevens.
But that’s okay. The New York Times and the other useful idiots will explain to us shortly that if Qumu hadn’t been held in Gitmo, he never would have been so resentful as to launch an attack on our consulate. Sure, he was already in Al Qaeda, but that was probably because he had memories of being held in Gitmo before that in a past life.
