Christian Arab Woman Becomes Commander of Israeli Combat Unit

In Syria, Christians are running for their lives. In Egypt, Christians are running for their lives. In Iraq, Christians are on the run. In Israel, an Arab Christian woman is in training to command a combat unit.

It’s all about horizons. And while Israel is not perfect, it offers greater horizons for everyone making it the United States of the region.

History took place on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, when Mona Abdo, a Christian Arab who grew up in Haifa, Israel, became the first female Arab commander of a combat unit in the Israeli Defense Forces.

Abdo’s road to this historic moment started in 2010 when, as a volunteer in the Israeli army, she served in the Ordnance Corps for four months before she knew that she wanted to do more, and, as a result, she was transferred to the female combat unit Caracal – where Arab and Jewish soldiers fight for the same side.

“There were people who were very proud of me, but there were those [Arabs] on the street who saw me with the IDF uniform and the fighter pin and told me I was a traitor,” she told News 2 online. “There were soldiers who were originally in shock, those I met in the course and in the battalion, but they were very impressed with what I did. I was also approached by Arab women who told me they wanted to enlist, but that they were worried about what other Arabs in the village might think.

Apartheid state? For all its problems, Israel is functional and functioning better than Syria or any other regional country where ethnic and religious differences lead to civil war.

It is becoming clearer all the time that the conflict is much less between Arab and Jew but is rather between Muslims and everyone else. This is a fight of their choosing. Christian Arabs must realize that their heads can be chopped off as fast as any infidel by tyrannical Muslim majorities.

We are seeing the results of Muslim majorities in states with Islamic fundamental dominance. Tolerance and coexistence are dead. This has been happening for decades but not to the scale it is now. Why Obama has propped up these regimes is inexplicable and absurdly naive.

You don't appease radical Muslim regimes, you crush them. Christians, Jews, and anyone who wish to live free must unite to thwart Islamic evil. I applaud this Christian woman for leading and clearly knowing who her real friends and real enemies are.

I am from Canada. A Christian by conviction. When I see this news item, I look for hope in this world. It reminds me of something that happened two years ago. I was getting a checlup with my doctor and congratulated the nurse at the reception. Why? A born again Christian, examined by a Muslim intern who was working for a Jewish Doctor.

A christian arab woman Israeli commando-now that's something.

Israel is the only country in the Middle East where the Christian population is increasing. What does that tell one about the respective difference in tolerance between Muslim and Jew?

it is good to see that women can compete and also become part of the solutions in Israel. Sad that women
are treated and disrespected in all other middle eastern countries. that is one of the problems of islam that will
not be addressed because it is not a faith to begin with but a political mindset of demented religion.

While leftist Protestant leaders are anti Israel. Could they be on a muslim payroll?

    • Daniel Greenfield

They're on the Red payroll. Always have been

      • Kufar Dawg

Some of them are stupid and ignorant, at least some of the ones I've argued with about Israel in the past, although I have won two such arguments.

  • Kufar Dawg

I hope she's not intending to turn the other cheek to the islamofascists who would destroy Israel. The world doesn't need any more cheek turners to the religion of peace.

Arab apartheid / Muslim apartheid are the largest 'apartheid systems', that exist today.

Virtually all non-Arabs and/or non-Muslims are second class citizens.

Among minorities that feel the wrath of the bigoted Arab-Muslim world are:

    * Berbers (native N. Africans, before Arab invasion).

    * Copts (indigenous Egyptians suffer from both: Arab racism and Islamic bigotry).

    * Kurds (Examples include: [Saddam's] Iraq and Syria.

    * Blacks, in Arab lands or in Arab ruled Africa like the genocide in the Sudan and slavery in both Sudan and in Mauritania.

    * Asians, particularly in the Gulf Arab states. [Sex slaves or "plain" slaves).

    * Maronites-Christians [Native Lebanese] suffer from both Arab ethnic racism and religious bigotry, like the massacres in the 1970s by local Muslims and by Palestinian/Syrian forces.

    * Assyrians, are/have been persecuted both racially and religiously. Still very much marginalized in Iraq, for example.

    * Iran is not an Arab country but racism is huge against Kurds, Jews, Turkmens, etc. So is anti-non-Muslim bigotry against Christians, Bahai, Zoroastrians and other in the Islamic republic.

    * Turkey is also a Muslim non-Arab country and Kurds, Greeks, Armenians and other ethnicities have been through much suffering, genocide. Still there's great wide racism against non-Turkish ethnic groups. Turkey's policy in Cyprus has also been recognized as a real Apartheid by many. All non-Muslims are automatically branded as "foreigners" at the "moderate" Islamic supremacy of Turkey.

    * All non-Msulims in 'Islamic Apartheid state' of S. Arabia.

    * Asians [slaves!] in the Gulf Arab states.

    * Al-Akhdam in Yemen.

    * Gypsies in Jordan.

    Islamic-Arab "Palestine" apartheid:

    * Ahmadiyya Muslims are harshly persecuted in (Pakistan and in) the "Palestinian" Apartheid authority and/or by Hamas.

    * Descendents of slaves of the Bedouins are still stigmatized by racist "Palestinians".

    * Christians are discriminated, persercuted against [especially since Y. Arafat's Islamization of Bethlehem], by Palestine authority and Hamas regime.

    From anti-Jewish Apartheid:

    – The Arab racist apartheid against the Jews attempted genocide ever since the 1920s, (Like Mufti of "Palestine" at his incited massacres, and Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood who called simply 'to kill Jews').
    – Chased out a Million Jews in the late 1940.
    – Has boycotted and demonized [every logical defensive action is branded "racist"] the Jewish democratic-free-equal-to-all state only because it's the "other". It is neither Muslim nor purely Arab.
    – The Arab racist world continues to play with Arab-Palestinians (grandchildren of Arab immigrants like ping-pong against Israel.

Hmmm…a young, attractive Christian woman in the Middle East who is not afraid of being kidnapped by Muslim gangs, who carries and uses a high-powered weapon, who gives orders to others, who can defend herself and others, who carries herself with confidence and gets respect from other women and men….now where could such a person exist? I wonder what the Christian women in Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria would say?

  • @SamirSHalabi1

Israeli Arab-Christian woman in the IDF training to be a combat leader.
At least in Israel people have religious freedom and can pray accordingingly how their religion dictates them to pray. People are also free to choose their career without any hindrance from the state, whether he be Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Bahai or members of the Druze-Arabs or even Crcassian.

Lord, please give Abdo the strength to overcome all her fear and give it to you, so that you may guide her thru to safe passage. Amen.
