"I don't follow the author's logic - why would voters in the wealthiest counties support redistribution to the government middle and upper classes - that makes no sense! "

Some don't, some do, but expect to benefit and others feel they can tolerate it for the perceived benefits to the country (not all rich people are narcissistic but simply prefer to control who they give charity to). But for the most part, the rhetoric used makes most rich people think they aren't the target, even when they're wrong. That's why they coined the deceptive term "the 1%" to target "those people" meanwhile the money will come from the relatively rich middle class...from their operating capital.

A few will pay more from their salaries too, just as most people envision. It's still not good because it doesn't treat the economy as a dynamic force, which is the only way one can operate. You can't just manipulate one stream of money without changing the outcome of the entire stream. That's why they call it a stream, or flow. They're throwing in filters and resistance without any expectation that they'll slow down the flow, which hurts the bottom line of our national productivity.

“America’s growing diversity and its increasingly socially liberal attitudes played a big role in this election. But looking back, we are likely to see this as the first of the class warfare elections of our new Gilded Age of extreme inequality,” he wrote in a statement.

Get Real: The Washington-Baltimore corridor is top heavy with super rich gonzos, lobbyists, lawyers, and pseudo-entrepreneurs who invest taxpayer money in enterprises that have the approval of Washington D.C., and who have connections to Congress and the bureaucracies and the White House. They are the federally created oligarchy. Their estates and swanky condos litter the landscape up there. And don't forget San Francisco, a city on the skids but which Obama flies to and is hosted by the super-rich oligarchy there to raise millions for his ongoing election campaign.

Because when taxes go up, the middle class and small business owners struggle with extra costs and may go out of business. The wealthiest Americans then buy up those small businesses and expand their own businesses and wealth.
"The actual redistribution takes money from the working middle class and gives it to the government middle and upper classes.

It’s the Russian economy with an American flag and a framed photo of Obama in the background."

Sounds more like the Soviet economy to me.

Get real, Get Real. Obviously, there is no shortage of rich Leftists and wealthy bureaucrats in this country as the president's lavish fundraisers and victories in 8 of the 10 richest counties attest. How this would come as a surprise to anyone is a mystery to me.

I might be wrong, but I suspect the Dan Greenfield and Arnold Ahlert aren't swimming in a pot of gold like the rich Leftists who voted for Barack Obama.

I don't follow the author's logic - why would voters in the wealthiest counties support redistribution to the government middle and upper classes - that makes no sense! The most meaningful statement is found in Arnold Ahlert's piece The Deduction Cap Trap: "the top 2 percent of income earners also produce over 30 percent of U.S. consumer spending, with the top 5 percent accounting for 40 percent of it." tells how dire our countries economic health is in. This concentration of wealth is incompatible with a healthy democracy and the necessary middle class to support it, yet the authors can only defend catering to the super rich since they have the pot of gold.
