“Maybe the steam engine is more his speed”

President Obama campaigned in Virginia today, where he took a shot at Romney’s criticisms of his position on fuel efficiency standards.
“Just yesterday my opponent called my position on fuel efficiency standards extreme. I don’t know, it doesn’t seem extreme to me to want to have more fuel efficient cars. Maybe the steam engine is more his speed.”
The steam engine seems to be more Obama’s speed.
By pushing standards up to 54.5 miles per gallon, the Impoverisher-in-Chief has added as much as $15,000 to the price of a new car and according to the National Automobile Dealers Association , has made it impossible for 7 million Americans to buy cars.
Is pricing 7 million Americans out of the car market extreme?
Is making it impossible for 7 million Americans to take jobs that are a driving distance from their house extreme?
Obama claims to be setting high mileage rates to cut American dependence on foreign oil. At the same time he has restricted domestic drilling and his mileage standards are only enforcing gasoline rationing on the automobile industry while his taxes enforce gasoline taxes on drivers.
Maybe what Obama really wants is to take America back to the age of steam? Or maybe that’s just hot air.
