It would appear that more people have died due to Muslim Cartoonophobia/Moviephobia than due to Islamophobia. Maybe all those resources that our governments have been devoting to combating Islamophobia and teaching tolerance could be put to better use teaching Muslims to tolerate cartoons, movies and other forms of art.
The protests initially sparked in Egypt on Tuesday, spreading within hours to Libya, where U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three of his aides were killed after attackers set the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on fire. The death toll ticked higher on Friday, when Tunisian media reported at least two protesters had been killed and 29 wounded clashing with police in Tunis.
Lebanese media reported one person had been killed in Tripoli, while Agence France-Presse reports two people lost their lives after protesters stormed past police to raise a black Islamic flag at the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum, Sudan. Meanwhile, at least five protesters were killed in Yemen in clashes around the U.S. Embassy in Sana.
I foresee an entire tolerance industry dedicated solely to teaching Muslims how to get along with cartoons. It could begin with Tom and Jerry, which seems popular in the Muslim world, and Mickey Mouse, and then work all the way up to Mohammed wearing mouse ears and being chased around by a cat. With slow degrees of exposure, Muslims might actually be able to see another Mohammed cartoon and just shrug, the way that normal people would.
