Obama’s unionized dirt cookie makers will make 40 percent less dirt cookies as much

357,000 Haitians are still living in tent cities after the earthquake. A cholera outbreak spread by UN Peacekeepers has killed nearly 5,000 people.

55 percent of the population lives on less than $1 a day. 78 percent lives on less than $2 a day.

Haitian villagers have resorted to eating dirt. “In places like Cite Soleil, the oceanside slum where Charlene shares a two-room house with her baby, five siblings and two unemployed parents, cookies made of dirt, salt and vegetable shortening have become a regular meal.

“When my mother does not cook anything, I have to eat them three times a day,” Dumas said.

So clearly the one thing that Haiti needs is not food… but millions of dollars for Unions.

Labor Secretary Hilda Solis on Thursday announced a $2.2 million grant that will be used to strengthen budding labor unions in Haiti and Peru.

The taxpayer money will fund projects organized by the AFL-CIO’s Solidarity Center, which aims to build a global labor union movement.

In Haiti, the Solidarity Center will work with the apparel export sector, focusing particularly on issues related to freedom of association (the right to unionize), sexual harassment and forced overtime.

Sure we could send them food, but let’s spend millions helping the AFL-CIO push its Socialist World Union instead. And let the Haitians eat dirt cookies.
