Obama Concealed Iranian Attack on US Drone in International Airspace

In other news you have to wait for after an election to find out about… two Iranian jets fired on a US drone in international airspace.

The unarmed, unmanned drone was conducting “routine surveillance” over the Persian Gulf when it was “intercepted” by Iran.

two Iranian jets fired twice, missing on both attempts — the drone headed away from the Iranian coast, landing safely soon after at an undisclosed location. The Iranian jets pursued the drone for a short period before giving up.

Little said the U.S. government has protested to the Iranians. Asked about how the U.S. could respond, he said: “We have a wide range of options from diplomatic to military.”

Bowing usually works for Obama. He could try bowing to the Iranian planes.

He would not say whether there were actually plans for a military response. Asked if this should be considered an act of war, Little said he didn’t want to get into “legal characterizations” of the event.

So why didn’t we hear about it before? Because it was classified due to concerns about national elections.

The shooting in the Gulf, which occurred just before 5 a.m. (0900 GMT) on Nov. 1, was unprecedented, Pentagon press secretary George Little said. The incident was not disclosed sooner because the military does not discuss classified surveillance missions, but agreed to answer questions after news reports revealed the shooting.

Right again. So which part of this report impacted national security exactly? Were the Iranians unaware of what they had done? No, it would have been bad timing before the election and it would have undermined Valerie Jarrett’s dirty nuclear deal with Iran.

Maybe Iran doesn’t know how much their pilots suck, since they ended up purging the pre-revolutionary air force?

Little said the drone was about 16 miles (26 kilometers) off the Iranian coast when the Russian-made SU-25 Frogfoot warplane intercepted it and opened fire. He said it was the first time an unmanned U.S. aircraft was shot at in international airspace over the Gulf.

According to the Pentagon, the Iranian war plane made at least two passes by the slower-moving drone, firing “multiple rounds.”

Little said that once the Predator drone came under fire, it began to move further out and the Iranian aircraft continued to pursue it “for some period of time before letting it return to base.” The Iranian plane did not follow the drone all the way back to its base, Little said, declining to say where that base was.

He said there was no other U.S. aircraft nearby that could respond to the attack, and added that the U.S. believes Iran was trying to shoot the drone down.

I suppose it’s hard to tell under such confusing circumstances.

It's obvious these drones are USA flagged, right? Like, they wouldn't mistake it for, say, something out of Israel?

Either way this mealymouthed nonsense that came out of Obama's mouth is rather inexcusable.

You people are such XXXXXXs. If you can tell lies, then I can ramp my language up, eh? What idiots these mortals be. Is that better? Bless your heart, as they say in the South. You want every President to report everything? Iran-Contra during Reagan's time as Prez, along with the 241 Marines killed in Lebanon because of Reagan not rearming and securing them, with him "fighting" back by attacking Grenada? http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/featur… Dear God! And did George W. Bush ever apologize for the lack of WMDs in Iraq? Nope. And you want to make a big issue of an UNARMED DRONE? Grow up. Sometimes government has secrets from its citizens.

    • Daniel Greenfield

Iran firing on American aircraft seems like the sort of thing that the American people should know about.

Clearly you seem to think otherwise.

    • Mary Sue

      "You people" constitutes WHAT exactly?

Funny you should mention Iran-Contra, the Leftists wanted to uncover every little detail about that.

The lack of WMD in Iraq because they were all trucked into Syria and buried!

      • PaulRevereNow

There were WMD’s in Iraq, in April 2003, as American troops marched into Baghdad. These were chemical and biological WMD’s. Read Ken Timmerman’s book, “The Shadow Warriors.”

      • gerry

Not al of them, some were discovered in Rotterdam, some in Jordan and some in Turquey. On this subject read the UNreports from May to June 2004.Particularly the one from Demrtrius. Now how do these weapons got there? So far there are no anwers, although,Blix was seing lots of trucks on tje roads.

    • AngryBruin

What lies? Was it a lie that 4 Americans were killed in Benghazi while that idiot Obama was playing AngryBirds on his top secret iPad? Then had the unmitigated gall to go to Las Vegas? Oh and by the way, WGBH is surely neutral on this subject, right? Government sponsored wing of Obama's administration. Get off your high horse you jackass.

do you really believe everything you read? or seee on tv.?

The reason that you focus on PAST repub prez's is because you know the current enemy occupying the White house by fraud and deceit is a *FAILURE*

  • AngryBruin

I guess "the fog of war" was in the eyes of the sorely amateur Iranian pilots ans POTUS.

    • Mary Sue

I notice that people whine about fog of war all the time when they're maphacking.

  • trickyblain

Right. Because publishing surveillance events right when they happen is longstanding national policy? And reporting it would have affected the election, how?

But I do agree with Greenfield in that the Iranian Air Force sucks. A 70's era Frogfoot (ground attack — an armoured-up rip-off of our long retired A-4)?

    • kasandra

Where to start? It's not the surveillance mission details that should have been revealed – it's the attack on our drone over international waters. And the Iranians already knew about the attack so why keep it from the American electorate? And it may have affected the election for voters to have seen the further wages we're paying for our Dear Leader's weakness toward the Islamic world and Ahab-like pursuit of an agreement – any agreement – with Iran. As to the Su-25, it's not a 70s aircraft, it's not a rip-off of the 50's-60's era A-4; it's the Russian version of the 80's, 90's and current U.S.A.F. A-10. It is a very effective aircraft, is used by numerous countries around the world, and was recently successfully used in the Russia-Georgia conflict. As I believe Daniel Patrick Moynihan said, "Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but not their own facts."

      • trickyblain

The fact is, the SU-25 entered service in the 1970's. Not saying it's not an effective close air support aircraft (not in the same universe, however, as the Warthog), but the Iranians using it for CAP is somewhat telling. It's not its role.

What is really shocking is that this blogger is not shocked at all. If anything, this is a predictable outcome – Iran taunts the Islamist-in-Chief, and the so called leader of the free world does NOTHING! Par for his course.

This is the direct outcome of his Islamist-bent, but most significantly -http://adinakutnicki.com/2012/11/04/update-debkafile-intelligence-the-treacherous-potus-his-october-surprise-via-the-iranian-hitlerite-regime-his-jaw-jaw-addendum-to-more-bengazigate-mysteries-commentary-by-adi/

    As to Jarrett -http://adinakutnicki.com/2012/11/02/valerie-jarrett-her-mischief-making-capable-of-upending-western-civilization-the-unofficial-buck-startsstops-at-her-door-addendum-to-barack-hussein-obamas-hidden-hand-commentary-by-a/

And it is all coming full circle – the POTUS's surrogates have now come clean. He is meeting with the Hitlerite regime for ONE ON ONE talks/begging in Dec!!

As someone who would have loved to see Mitt Romney oust Mr. Obama, I do believe that the US Government (either Republican or Democ**p) is entitled to say nothing about these incidents.
However, if / when the information does become common knowledge, then said Government HAS TO HAVE a credible answer.
If Mr. Little's response was to say that "There was no response" (i.e. no attempt to track / chase / shoot down the Iranian aircraft), it indicates that the current Administration is going to enable more and more of these incidents – each one slightly more aggressive than the previous one – to escalate until POTUS is drawn into a conflict – much worse than initiating it himself.

    • Mary Sue

In these days of internets and smartphones with a camera everywhere, it's going to be harder and harder for there to be a circumstance where the US doesn't have some splainin' to do.

  • http://whatdirectdemocracymightbe.wordpress.com/ Daryl Davis

It's interesting that the Administration would show such discretion in the last days before the election and yet continually leak information about its successful accomplishments, e.g. the bin Laden raid. Add to this reality the abject failure of the press to hold those in power on the Democratic side accountable and thoughtful people ought to conclude that the system is now failing.

How long do we accept the decline of a once great nation? It's time to consider the alternatives:

    • http://www.themadjewess.wordpress.com MAD JEWESS

"Bin Laden raid", where are the pics of the dead Bin Laden? There are none

  • Ar'nun

I read a report that the Jets followed the drone all the way to about 15 miles within Israeli airspace where it landed and the Jets peeled off when they knew the were approaching the range of Israeli anti-Aircraft weapons.

    • Raymond in DC

Are you so seriously obtuse, or are you just playing at same? Those Iranian jets don't have the range to reach half-way to Israel.

As it happens, just a few weeks ago an Iranian drone launched by Hizbullah from Lebanon penetrated Israeli airspace. After following it for a while (some reports say Israel tried to bring it down intact using electronic means), the IAF took two shots and brought it down. (Iran still described the penetration as a great achievement.)

Why was news of the attack on the US drone not brought up before the election? Perhaps for the same reason there's been little publicity over a very sophisticated US drone that Iran successfully brought down and is actively working to reverse engineer. In that case as well, the US response was … to do nothing. (OK, in the first case, the US asked Iran "pretty please" to return the drone.) But both incidents undermine the meme that Obama can successfully handle a foreign policy crisis.

Give up Daniel..there's no reasoning with fools, idiots or liberals, the more they think they know, the more they prove their shameful ignorance. Laugh and go your merry way, I'm positive that's what they do..
