Obama Offered Iran Full Diplomatic Relations, Security Cooperation

Once again we learn that Obama put everything on the table and got nothing for his troubles. The appeasement barrier is always on the other side. (h/t Jihad Watch)

According to Maariv, Deputy Secretary of State William Burns met with chief Iranian nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili for an hour in 2009, and one other meeting between officials from both sides took place as well.

Included in the diplomatic incentives package offered by Washington would be, in the first stage, the opening of interest sections in Washington and Tehran, with the possibility subsequently of expanding to full diplomatic ties, including US and Iranian embassies and ambassadors in each other’s capitals, Maariv claimed.

As part of restored diplomatic relations with Iran, Maariv reported, Washington was ready to hold senior level diplomatic contacts, to agree to reciprocal visits, to approve security cooperation between the countries, direct flights between the US and Iran, and the granting of visas to Iranians wishing to visit the US.

But Iran rebuffed the “diplomatic hand” offered by the White House, Maariv reported. The Islamist regime “opposed any sign of normalization with the US, and refused to grant a ‘prize’ to the Americans,” according to an anonymous Israeli source quoted by the paper.

Obama’s Stage 1 policy on Iran was giving them the store, but Iran refused to negotiate. His Stage 2 policy on Iran was to hit them with sanctions in order to try and get them to negotiate. His Stage 3 policy is to just give in. Iran knows it and so do we.

The one thing that Iran can do and that Obama has no counter for is to refuse to give in. And that’s what Iran has done. It hasn’t taken the carrot or the stick. And so Obama has no leverage at all over Iran. No matter how often his surrogates hop out and claim that his Iranian policy is working because of its multilateralism, the truth is that it isn’t working and has never worked.

Sanctions are not a policy, they’re a face-saving gesture. Iran is determined to have nuclear weapons and Obama has no plan for stopping that.

Iran is a sovereign nation and may do as it pleases, so long as it refrains from supporting regional and international terrorism and the sort of threats it has made toward Israel and the U.S. In light of those aggressive actions, Iran has earned the opposition it now faces to its nuclear program. I don't fault the President, though, for attempting to normalize relations with Iran; I assume he went into it with a degree of skepticism.

His subsequent sanctions upon Iran, however, reflect a cynicism that has several times cost the Iranian people themselves, beginning with his inaction during the so-called Green Revolution. And his present and future cynical inaction, should he be reelected, may well cost both those people and the Israelis much more.

"Iran is a sovereign nation and may do as it pleases…"

      In theory…

"…so long as it refrains from supporting regional and international terrorism and the sort of threats it has made toward Israel and the U.S."

Which it has not since day 1 of this regime.

"In light of those aggressive actions, Iran has earned the opposition it now faces to its nuclear program."

      Precisely.

"I don't fault the President, though, for attempting to normalize relations with Iran…"

      Dupe alert.

"I assume he went into it with a degree of skepticism"

      Strike 2.

"His subsequent sanctions upon Iran, however, reflect a cynicism that has several times cost the Iranian people themselves, beginning with his inaction during the so-called Green Revolution. And his present and future cynical inaction, should he be reelected, may well cost both those people and the Israelis much more."

      Foul tip.

Well,he is getting re-elected, so there you go. I bet Obama has done more about Iran than Romney ever would.

Obama is the second coming of Jimmy Carter, and we all know how that turned out.

Done more about Iran than Romney ever would? More like does more to go easy on Iran than Romney would. You have to remember, this is a President that thinks appeasing and kissing up to the Muslim Brotherhood is a good idea. This will be on par with Jimmy Carter's allowing the Shah to go down, thus setting the stage for the Mullahs that now run that place. Whatever Obama's doing with Iran, no good can come of it, I promise you. And you'd better listen because I'm always right about things like this.

In the real world, that is putside of the safe cocoon known as America, it isnt a question about "deserve" or "rights". Its about the dead, the broken and the nutjob raping your daughter in front of your face because you didnt have the good sense to blow his head off when he started aquiring a new machine gun.

Americans may want to consider the concept of the EMP blast. The Iranians do not need 1000 nukes to bring you to your knees. They need two, Both detonated at high altitude. My point is: dont be so sure Israel is target #1

I agree completely. Actually we should then impose a Japanese-style constitution on them and use their oil to repay our costs.

That's the "flexibility" he was talking about with Russia, since Russia is also arming Iran with a nuclear program.
