Obama Politicizes Rosh Hashana Greeting to Attack Republicans

Does a fairly bland greeting on a Jewish holiday really need another lecture from the most divisive figure in American politics today on divisiveness and on social justice?

At a time when our public discourse can too often seem harsh; when society too often focuses on what divides us instead of what unites us; I hope that Americans of all faiths can take this opportunity to reach out to those who are less fortunate; to be tolerant of our neighbors; and to recognize ourselves in one another.

There’s also some context on the constant calls [2] for self-reflection which are unnecessary and insulting.

Obama is, of course, well aware that his share of the Jewish vote is approaching Carter levels. So his only defense is to lecture the Jewish community on the dangers of divisiveness.

But Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur are a time for admitting one’s own mistakes, rather than telling others to do so. If Obama really wants to incorporate that tradition into his life, he has plenty of material to work with.
