Obama’s “Wise Latina” Upholds Religious Freedom for Muslims, Not Christians

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is a New York writer focusing on radical Islam. He is completing a book on the international challenges America faces in the 21st century.

While Obama’s Justice Department has set a record for the number of cases it filed on behalf of Muslims, particularly in defense of the discriminatory Hijab, the same administration has not only failed to stand up for religious freedom of Christians, it has actually taken the lead in attacking the religious freedom of Christians.

The Supreme Court denied a request by Hobby Lobby, a Christian-owned company, to shield the company from the controversial contraceptive mandate. Justice Sonia Sotomayor rejected a request for an emergency injunction that would have shielded employers from the mandate. Hobby Lobby could face fines of up to $1.3 million a day if they do not comply to the Obama mandate.

And Hobby Lobby has indeed announced that they will not comply with the mandate.

Yet, as Laura Ingraham pointed out, in a previous case Sotomayor ruled for a Muslim inmate who was denied Ramadan meals. In Ford v. McGinnis, 352 F.3d 582 (2d Cir. 2003), Sotomayor wrote an opinion that reversed a district court decision holding that a Muslim inmate’s First Amendment rights had not been violated because the holiday feast that he was denied was not a mandatory one in Islam. Sotomayor held that the inmate’s First Amendment’s rights were violated because the feast was subjectively important to the inmate’s practice of Islam.

Forcing Catholics to violate their religion is unimportant, but allowing a Muslim to maintain an optional practice is.

This is what religious freedom in America looks like under Barack Hussein Obama.

"If I claim to be a wiseman ,it surely means that I don't know"-Dust in the wind,Kansas. This self professed "wise-latina" is the personification of that statement. To the detriment of future generations.

    • Mary Sue

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. As true today as when it was written thousands of years ago.

      • jakespoon

A much better assessment than mine Mary Sue.

    • Ben Jabo

Onte thing is for certain, she didn't get the job bcause of her good looks

      • jakespoon

        Ain't that the truth.

  • pagegl

She's a progressive. I am pretty sure that 'wise' and 'progressive' are mutually exclusive.

  • Indio Viejo

Shameless in her ignorance! If history is written by leftist, she may escape opprobrium.

  • Patricia

I don't see what's wise about either of them. They are giving preferential treatment to the more violent religion while we are facing the fiscal cliff. Maybe their own lives (for now, not after death) are improved but the rest of us are facing increased violent crime from poorer, ungodly misled people.

  • Thomas Wells

"Sharia Sonia" is bucking for a position in the North American Caliphate.

  • JacksonPearson

This judge has an allegiance to the closet Muslim that appointed her!

  • tagalog

I guess that "wise Latina woman" was what the lawyers call "sales puffery," eh?

Or maybe that's the level of thought and consistency we can expect from Latina women who claim to be wise, do you think that's it?

  • Mary Sue

Yeah, wise Latina my a$$. Her calling herself that only proves she too has an ego problem, perhaps one as bad as Obama's. Birds of a feather, I guess.

It makes me wonder how Sotomayor would rule in the case in Canada that's going to the Human Rights Commission, the one with a Lesbian who was denied a Haircut at a barber shop run by Muslims who claimed they could not touch her because it was against their religion.

    • jakespoon

Easy,M.S., the law would be convoluted in such a manner that Christian conservatives would be blamed and get stuck with the legal fee and fined.

  • bluffcreek1967

I recall that when both Sotomayor and Kagen were examined and eventually confirmed for the SCOTUS, there was very little real opposition from the Republicans. The Republicans should have been raising hell because it was obvious even then that both of these women were hard-core Leftists! Instead, the Republicans were trying to play nice, and not get lambasted by the MSM. The Republicans, in a sense, were complicit. And so, such decisions as this by our "Wise Latina" is what we get as a result of their silence. We get what we deserve. None of this should surprise us and we will see even more of the same in the coming years.

    • curmudgeon

right on, bluff. the very reason i despise republicans. with democrats, you know what you are getting. pure evil, as fast as they can produce it. but republicans always promise better. they say they are for our rights, against big government tyranny, for the constitution, and friends of america, but when it comes crunch time, republicans are just democrats that know better than to tell the truth about themselves. anyone that did not recognize kagan and sotamayor as pure poison for america had no business sweeping the floor of the senate, let alone casting votes. in the next 4 years, kagan and sotamayor will start to look like moderates as obama takes off the sheepskins he has been wearing to fool the silly voting sheep.

  • cjk

A Mohammedan criminal has more rights than an American entrepreneur in this new society supported by a majority of the voters.
Hopefully this will come to blood because if it doesn't, it will mean that we have surrendered without a fight.
They are not going to back down one iota, we have been backing down for decades.
I hate to speak like this, but reality is reality and the quicker we face it the better.

    • pagegl

I hate to say it cjk, but, I fear you are right.

      • Ben Jabo

Like her or not, you're stuck with her for her miserable life

  • Silvia Constable

Simply stated, Sotomayor has sold her soul to the devil…..for greed!

    • Ben Jabo

Shie didn't sell, she gave it away gratis, in order to obtain a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court
Every hooker has their price, that was hers

    • cjk

Sometimes I really gotta wonder if you're right, I mean in a literal sense.

  • figment newton

all of the animals are equal, but some are more equal then others.

  • NOspics

That soto-bi*ch is a DISGRACE&SHAME to what "latino/a" stand for: entertainment imbeciles that can't speak English and have to "sing" their way to spectacleship (e.g., ricky(moron)martin, shakira-s*it-for-brains). SO SICK of these imbeciles thinking they represent those of Spanish ancestry. We are NOT immoral, pro-abort, pro-homosexual, anti-family, anti-American, anti-Christian, hateful hypocrites!!! WE ARE DECENT, GOD-FEARING, AMERICAN-LOVING, PRO-FAMILY, PRO-LIFE, GOOD-HEARTED PEOPLE.

  • cynthia curran

Well. Islam is growing in popularity in Mexico since a lot of Mexicans are cradle Catholics that want to their own beliefs,so they are sympathic, not saying all MExicans but some mexicans.

  • cynthia curran

Well, Mexicans are both, the old conservative sterotype isn't true either they are just like white people.

  • presslady

I know the type.. She`s a self conceited, arrogant, and intolerant Latina. Probably her parents did a lot of effort to put her in college and also to enter US illegally, or not. Unfortunately, this type of people , once they start being more knowledgeable, they lose all the modesty and humbleness they still need to behave in a humane way. I was born in Argentina, and even though my country, as Uruguay and Brazil have European standards, and we are raised in other type of environment, we are also from the same continent as her, so she definitely embarrass us.

  • barbjh227

Is this women a white Latina? white infidels are scheduled for death, or are Latina women EXEMPT? I guess she will stay hidden under a vale of some kind. ?????????????WTF?

  • barbjh

I'm too confused by the double standard or the pure ignorance, to post anything else productive.

  • Tess

The comments on the article are absolutely shameful. *sigh* In both cases, the decision was made to prevent discrimination against women. That's the common denominator. Women have a right to wear clothing as long as it isn't distracting or breaking indecency laws. I can see how it might be a bit distracting to Islamaphobes, but oh well. And women have a right to contraception. It saves lives, reduces many cancers, clears up acne and a variety of other ills, and of course is KEY in family planning.

    Obama appointee needs to be:

Marxist subversive, lesbo, subversive, Islamophile, ethnic.

Sonja's history of trying to replace Christianity with Islam goes way back to her affirmative action days in college. She may even be a convert.

  • Chris Moran

Utterly illogical, and indeed ridiculous to compare a defense of religious freedom (the wearing of the hajib) to medical coverage discriminating against women’s right to choose their own medical options or medications.

  • Chris Moran

And linking both ideas to the defense of an Islamic inmate's religious need for starting and breaking fast (Ramadan) meals? What about Catholics' conviction for a Fish ("meatless") Friday? Or only serving pork to observing Jewish inmates? The Constitution of the United States of America serves all. Period.

    • cjk

All except Christians in the opinion of you and your evil cohorts.
