One More Question About Benghazi?

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is a New York writer focusing on radical Islam. He is completing a book on the international challenges America faces in the 21st century.

Bret Baier at FOX News points out, once again, that Obama was about as enthusiastic about calling Benghazi a terrorist attack as he was about debating Mitt Romney. And he points out that CBS carefully censored the part of the clip in which Obama backed away from the terror label.

In that same piece is something from the official timeline that caught my eye.

“1:15 a.m.: CIA reinforcements arrive on a 45-minute flight from Tripoli in a plane they’ve hastily chartered. The Tripoli team includes four GRS security officers, a CIA case officer and two U.S. military personnel who are on loan to the agency. They don’t leave Benghazi airport until 4:30. The delay is caused by negotiations with Libyan authorities over permission to leave the airport, obtaining vehicles, and the need to frame a clear mission plan. The first idea is to go to a Benghazi hospital to recover Stevens, who they correctly suspect is already dead. But the hospital is surrounded by the Al Qaeda-linked Ansar al-Shariah militia that mounted the consulate attack.”

So the U.S. Ambassador to Libya is at the Benghazi hospital and suspected dead. The CIA contractors know that, but they can’t get there because the hospital is surrounded by the Al Qaeda-linked group Ansar al Shariah, the “militia that mounted the consulate attack.”

This goes up the chain communication at 1:15 a.m. on Sept. 12. The White House, the Situation Room, and all of those paying attention to intel channels know that the guys on the ground have determined the group that’s behind this. It’s the Al Qaeda-linked militia that are still fighting and have the hospital surrounded.

The CIA contractors could not get inside the hospital because Ansar Al-Sharia was outside. So how did Ambassador Stevens and his supposed rescuers get inside?

The official story is that Stevens was rescued by a mob of helpful citizens, who kept stopping to snap cell phone photos of his corpse, but that’s just what good samaritans do in the region.

So now the “rescuers” take Stevens to a hospital, access to which is controlled by Ansar Al Sharia, the very militia that tried to kill him, something that the locals are likely to know. Ansar Al Sharia then lets Stevens in, without harming him further, even after trying to kill him.

Something doesn’t add up here. Either the “rescuers” were taking in his body for a reward. Or it wasn’t the presence of Ansar Al Sharia that slowed down the CIA response.

Obama tried to orchestrate a kidnapping. He was then supposed to then lead the rescue and BAM… October surprise.

  • Mary Sue

Is it any surprise that Hillary Clinton is stepping down as Secretary of State? Well probably not, given that she announced it last year, but this seems…suspicious. I think she saw the writing on the wall.

Obama needs to be held accountable for Benghazi. Plain and simple. We have a Muslim Brotherhood operative as President and the dumb blanks just gave him another 4 years. Amazing.

Yeah BLJ, #Bengazi proves once and for all the Obama is a lightweight on foreign policy http://i50.tinypic.com/35bb68k.jpg

Another reason to mourn September 11th. In 2001, the US lost over 3,000 lives and a landmark in NYC. In 2012, the US lost four loyal citizens including an ambassador. While we quickly identified the 2001 attack and the group behind it, I've lost faith that the same diligence is being done with the 2012 Benghazi Embassy attack.

With the election behind us and no reason to delay any further, the Senate leaders and administration will complete their investigation identifying some mid-level person at the State Dept or CIA – and fire that person for not acting properly. And call it cased closed. (If our administration cares at all as they might just forget about it as our main stream media has done from day one.)

While I'm happy the election is decided – it just sad that we (as in the citizens) do not think protecting our citizens abroad that are put in harm's way is very important. Would you if that was your son or daughter?

Ah, The Little Scandal That Wasn't!

    • Mary Sue

In your dreams. Obama didn't do his job because he basically said screw this I'm going to bed. Or the equivalent in nonverbal grunt or whatever.

Sounds rather imaginative and speculative, much like fantasies about where he was born, his gay trysts, etc.

We'll see, right? Conservatives have investigators and attorneys, don't they? Granted, they are professionals with reputations, though, hmmm…but I betcha Glen Beck could get to the bottom of this!

Hopefully all of our collective heavy lifting will move the process along. Faster…faster….
