State Department Fails to Condemn Morsi’s Dictatorial Power Grab

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is a New York writer focusing on radical Islam. He is completing a book on the international challenges America faces in the 21st century.

Egyptian opponents of President Mohamed Morsi break into the office of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, in the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria on November 23, 2012. Opponents set fire to Muslim Brotherhood offices in three Egyptian cities, state television reported, as rival rallies gathered nationwide a day after Morsi assumed sweeping powers

You know that there’s something really wrong here when the UN Human Rights Commissioner condemns an Islamist move while Obama Inc. has absolutely nothing to say about it.

“We are very concerned about the possible huge ramifications of this declaration on human rights and the rule of law in Egypt,” Rupert Colville, spokesman for the UN Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay, said at the United Nations in Geneva.

Maybe the State Department will belatedly express its “concern” as well, but it is increasingly looking as if Obama gave Morsi the go-ahead to function as a dictator in exchange for getting Hamas to stand down.

Thousands of protesters marching from various points in the city are converging on Tahrir Square Friday afternoon, chanting slogans such as “Down with the Supreme Guide,” “Wake up Morsy, it’s your last day,” and the popular “The people demand the fall of the regime,” eyewitnesses report.

A march of dozens coming came from Estiqama Mosque in Giza Square after Friday prayers. The march included April 6 Youth Movement, Popular Current and Constitution Party members. Each movement raised its flag while others raised the Egyptian flag. The protesters also held banners denouncing the Muslim Brotherhood and its intervention in the state policy, as well as banners rejecting yesterday’s constitutional declaration.

Another march from Nour Mosque in Abbasseya that includes dozens of opponents to Morsy’s decisions, including April 6 activists, is also headed to Tahrir.

The protesters held symbolic coffins wrapped in Egyptian flags and white flags that read “martyr.”

They chanted “The people want to bring the president down” and “A second revolution anew.”

There are mass democracy protests in Tahrir Square and battles between democracy protesters and Muslim Brotherhood regime thugs. Last time around Obama claimed that Mubarak had to step down and follow the will of the people. What is he going to say now?

Morsi election was stolen in Egypt just as 0 stole American election. The Communist/Islamists are "hard" at work. I wonder when Americans will be brave enough to demonstrate in some meaningful fashion. But, wait, we can't because we know they are ready for just such a revolt and actually want that so this Communist, murderous traitor of the American people can "clamp down". The bottom rises up and the top comes down. Dictators relish this, it give them More Power and Control. I have noticed that Turkey, Egypt and now America have eliminated their top brass military. That should tell us something right there. The world is on fire and all who are paying attention can only stand in horror at the sight of it. "They" have given us no way out but revolution, death and destruction. All I can wonder is if the 6000 years are up and the Arch Angel Michael has now released Lucifer from the 2nd heaven and he is now fully engaged on this earth. Beware and Pray that there is indeed a rapture and God's Glory is revealed to His people. Seriously.

This sounds over-the-top but it's actually quite true.

This isn't going to end well.

Obama probably sent someone to take notes.

Probably the following is the case: The US needs a stable dictatorship in Egypt that is beholden to the US. Actually even Israel needs a stable dictatorship in Egypt that is beholden to the US. So let's just tone down those rattling of the sables.

Ceterum censeo: "Shillman" is one of the worst names one can give to a journalism fellowship.

People call for a revolution in this country, and when one is finally in it's early stages (#Occupy), the movement is mocked, sneered at & derided as nothing more than a bunch of dirty hippies, druggies, bums & any other negative they can dream up, by a huge majority of judgmental close-minded snobs.

If people wanted a push-back against government and their monied interests in the name of the american public, they might consider joining the movement, supporting it and it's agenda. Help it to grow and morph into a powerful people's action. It seems to me that Americans would rather hold their abused fellow countrymen in contempt than to consider what #Occupy might accomplish with the strong backing from people from all walks of life. You want revolutionary change in your country? Then prove it. Show some solidarity, people!
