The Only Way for Israel to Win is By Giving Up

The media specialize in two things, reporting on sex scandals and promoting irrational memes. “War never solves anything” is an article of faith on the left and it is invariably applied to anything and everything, except for some mysterious reason, WW2, where war apparently did solve some things.

At The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg bemoans Israel’s lack of strategic thinking. “There is no way out of this militarily,” Goldberg insists, with the peculiar fixed notion on the left that military solutions only work for terrorists, not the people fighting them. No, bombing Hamas will do no good. But Jeffrey Goldberg knows what will.

“How do you marginalize Hamas, which seeks the destruction of Jews and the Jewish state, and empower the more moderate forces that govern the West Bank?… Here’s one idea: Give Palestinians hope that Israel is serious about the two-state solution. And how do you do that? By reversing the settlement project on the West Bank.”

Statements like these should come with their own laugh track, but feel free to splice one in from your favorite sitcom. A long braying laugh of ridicule.

Hamas is in charge of Gaza, because Israel left Gaza and tore apart its towns and villages there and forced out all Jewish residents in what might legally be considered ethnic cleansing, but what Jeffrey Goldberg praises as “reversing a settlement project.”

The reason that rockets are being fired at Jerusalem and Tel Aviv is because Israel listened to people like Goldberg in the first place. And with that done, Jeffrey Goldberg proposes more of the same. Hair of the Hamas dog that bit you.

All of Israel’s previous withdrawals have failed to work, but if Israel ethnically cleanses Jews some more, it’s bound to marginalize Hamas.

It is not unreasonable for Palestinians to doubt the sincerity of Netanyahu on the subject of the two-state solution, when settlements grow ever-thicker.

But why then were they not convinced by the sincerity of Rabin, Peres, Netanyahu I, Barak, Sharon, Olmert and Netanyahu II? Is there any PM from the left or the right whose policies convinced the Palestinian Muslims, who forever need convincing, of his sincerity long enough to stop the violence? And after all this time, all the lies and terrorism, is it really Israel that needs to convince the terrorists or the terrorists who need to convince Israel of their sincerity?

The idea of a two-state solution will die if Israel continues to treat the West Bank as a suburb of Jerusalem and Kfar Sava, and not as the future location of the state of Palestine.

The two-state solution is already dead. There are two Palestinian states already. Perhaps Hamas and Fatah could take a whack at convincing each other of their sincerity.

There is no legitimately elected Palestinian government. There is no serious faith on the Israeli side that this time around in the twenty year cycle of peace negotiations and terror… that anything will change.

Media meme-spreads like Jeffrey Goldberg harp on the ethnic cleansing of the Jews of the West Bank as the magic solution to all these problems.

Will the Palestinian Authority clean up its act, hold legitimate elections and end its support for terrorism if Jews are not allowed to build homes in Ariel?

Settlement freezes have been applied without any such magic results.

With Hamas suddenly be forced out by the same Fatah militias who fled their fighters in Gaza if Jews are put on trucks and expelled into caravans? In Gaza, the results were the exact opposite.

Hamas has the Koran and the media has the settlements as the solution to all problems.
