US Suffers Worst Air Losses Since Vietnam

The U.S. Marine Corps has suffered its worst air squadron catastrophe since Vietnam, and its prized VMA-211 squadron has taken its worst hit since its defense of Wake Island in World War II.

By the time the smoke cleared, roughly 7% of the total harrier fleet operated by the USMC had been wiped out on a single day by a small force of ground combatants whose most potent weapon was the suicide vest, one of which was used to breach the camp’s perimeter fence.

Under Obama, the U.S. has taken 1,491 casualties in Afghanistan, over 70% of the total 2,121 casualties sustained since the fighting there began.

Afghanistan has become Obama’s Vietnam and he has become its Nixon. Except that the media loves him and is determined to cover for him. Obama fought a war in Libya without calling it a war. He’s losing a war in Afghanistan without calling it a defeat.

As the defeat in Afghanistan has become clearer, veterans have been leaving him in droves.

Even as Obama leads in Colorado, Florida, Ohio and Virginia, Mitt Romney is up by double digits among veterans in those states. Nationwide, he’s got a commanding 20-percentage-point lead over Obama and has even overtaken the president with younger veterans.

Obama’s campaign has been trying to improve on a historical Democratic disadvantage on national security and among veterans by touting the killing of Osama bin Laden, ending Iraq combat operations and winding down the war in Afghanistan.

Back in May, Obama had the lead among Afghanistan and Iraq veterans. But a Reuters/Ipsos poll from September says that’s evaporated, with Romney now up 48 percent to 34 percent.

Obama bragging about his retreat from Afghanistan is not likely to win him many military votes.

Well, the soldiers might not vote in droves for Obama. But, since their votes are seldom counted, it doesn't matter how they vote. Most absentee ballots are just thrown away without being counted. That's true of local, state and especially national elections. The only time they are even looked at is if the election is super close. Sometimes, it's too late because someone threw them in the trash already. Anyway, the truth is that Romney will screw the vets just like Obama does. This country rarely takes proper care of it's veterans and there is no reason to believe that will change any time soon. The exception was WW2 and that was only because there were so many veterans, the politicians had to treat them well. In all other conflicts, veterans have been and continue to be discarded by this society.
