War on Women: Media Bashing of Ann Romney Begins

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is a New York writer focusing on radical Islam. He is completing a book on the international challenges America faces in the 21st century.

As soon as Ann Romney finished delivering a passionate speech that reminded people of what a real First Lady is like, the media launched its own War on Women.

From the New York Times‘ Andrew Rosenthal

The genius of Mrs. Romney’s diva performance was the way she smiled so warmly as she delicately slipped the knife into President Obama.

In March, Rosenthal was claiming that the GOP was Anti-Woman. Now he’s using calculatedly sexist language to dismiss Ann Romney.

Further left, David Corn at Mother Jones, accused Ann Romney of engaging “in gender warfare and the politics of division”. The stunning hypocrisy of the political movement that had spent the last year screaming that Republicans were engaging in a “War on Women” charging that Ann Romney was being divisive and pitting one gender against another is stunningly breathtaking.

At FOX, Juan Williams showed off his own prejudices, saying that Ann Romney, “looks to me like a corporate wife. The stories she told about struggles are hard for me to believe. I mean, she’s a very rich woman.”

Even media coverage of Ann Romney’s speech that didn’t attack her directly, used her appearance to attack her husband. Her speech was described as a way of humanizing an inhuman Mitt Romney. Her very act of speaking at a convention was described as a clever move, depicting it as a cynical strategy.  Michelle Obama’s own convention speech in 2008 was not described in those terms.

Ann Romney and Michelle Obama gave somewhat similar speeches, both women talking about the life they had spent with their husbands and why their man would be good for the country. The dramatically different media response shows the core bias at work.

What the hell does Juan Williams think the Obama's are? Paupers? They have been lining their pockets at the taxpayers expense for years. At least MItt Romney earned his money.

The MSM can all go pound sand. They are the biggest bunch of frauds and losers around.

and Juan Williams got a 2 million dollar contract from FOX

No Michelle worked as a hospital administrator on the south side of Chicago where I work at now and then, my wife served her coffee every morning at Starbucks, she wasn't born rich and didn't rely on the tax payers for anything ,she was a very hard worker and related to everyone rich or poor ,I mean u don't have to like her but u should get your facts right!

The MSM is so biased and untruthful at this point they should no longer be allowed to call themselves news programs or reporters.
They misconstrue, edit and exclude everything that isn't democrat friendly and smear any political ideology they don't agree with as extremist ,racist and ignorant .

It's like watching Goebbels and Snookki report current events,Bin Laden covering world economy and Al we-are-all-going-to-die Gore do the weather.

Michelle Obama bought a $6000 dress to meet the Queen of England. My car isn't worth that much. She went to college and law school, as did her husband. The have millions……Her upbringing was humble but so was Ann Romney's. I have more respect for Ann's choice to stay home and raise her boys than for a woman who, while still on maternity leave at her old job, dragged her newborn off to a new-job interview so she could move up the corporate ladder. Jaun Williams is so biased in favor of Obama he is simply unable to do his job any more. He is seriously compromising his journalistic integrity with comments like this.

    • Daniel Greenfield

I'm not convinced there's any integrity to compromise.

But why does Anne Romney have to lie and act like they were poor in college,no ones mad about there wealth so why try to dupe people

All politician's wives are equal, it's just that SOME are more equal than others.

Juan Williams really makes me tired. Ann Romney was sincere, inspiring, and beautiful. Of Course she is a corporate wife of a successful business man, but that doesn't mean she hasn't went through hard times with MS and Breast cancer, or went through the ills of raising her children…..There is alot of jealousy and hypocricy on the left for those who prosper, and (Build That) particularly if they are conservatives, but how ironic that Wall Street has alot of Democrats who are also very uhappy with Obama's regulations and policies. Like it or not she was a star and a welcome change from the divisiveness, and attacks on prosperity and on businesses from this administration.

Shame on you Juan Williams! If you can't find fault with her comments you denigrate her appearance? How are we expected to believe what you have to say if you have ha hard time believing that Ann and Mitt ever struggled. I'd like to see you attend Harvard while getting two degree, one law and one business, and have small children at home and not have struggles. They still don't have servants when the could afford them. How much did you give to charity? They give, and probably always have, given a minimum of 10% of their income. I have lost all respect for you, Juan. But I still love you.

He meant financially struggle and yes its hard to believe

Lack of self esteem is what Juan Williams really has. He has underlying issues that cause his true self to criticize the truth! I would be utterly embarrassed if I was Fox News! I know they strive to be fair and balanced but if you call what Juan stated about Ann Romney "fair & balanced" then Fox News needs to rethink who they have to represent them! I expect integrity and honesty from at least Fox News and I must say there was nothing of integrity and honesty about Juan's statement about Ann Romney last night. Juan, if I were you I would find a rock to hide under because that statement will haunt you through many careers. On behalf of Ann Romney and all women in America, they deserve your much deserved apology. By the way, my guess is Ann has already forgiven you even though you offered no apology to her.
