Will Assad Use Chemical Weapons Against Sunni Islamist Rebels?

Clinton and Obama have been warning Assad that if he uses chemical weapons against the Sunni Islamist rebels, most of whom are either aligned with Al Qaeda or the Muslim Brotherhood, it will mean “crossing a red line.” While C&O have refused to specify what this means, the implication is that the air force that they are cutting to the bone and whose chapels they are desecrating with transgender marriage ceremonies will be ordered to go bomb Syria.

Ordinarily this should worry Assad. Syria, unlike Libya, isn’t a pushover, but its degraded air power is no match for NATO, especially with Turkey as an eager and willing partner, who has been trying to drag NATO into their Islamist Sunni vs Shiite Holy War from the start with incident after incident.

But unlike Saddam, Assad has held off using chemical weapons when he could have. If he does use them, it will be because Damascus is in danger of falling and at that point Assad will no longer care what happens. Being bombed to death by NATO is a lighter fate than being sodomized to death by some Salafi holy warriors.

Assad isn’t just in this alone. A Sunni victory will mean the ethnic cleansing of Christians and Alawites at the hands of groups like the Al Nusra Brigade, who have already gotten started on the task.

Syria isn’t Libya, it’s Rwanda, and the Alawite minority cannot afford to let the Salafis take Syria. Using chemical weapons would not be pretty, but it will be no worse than the fate that Obama’s “Brave Syrian People”, who were armed with his approval by the Islamists in Qatar and Turkey, have in store for millions of non-Sunni Syrians.

And even the Sunnis won’t get off light. The Free Syrian Army is a skeleton force, no more able to keep order in Syria after the fall of Assad, then the Libyan government was able to keep order after the fall of Gaddafi. That means the Islamist militias will have a free  hand in enforcing Islamic law, Mali style. And the situation appears to be even worse in Syria than in Libya.

Assad and the Alawites don’t have a whole lot to lose. Even if Obama, Cameron and Hollande guarantee some sort of exit for the Assad family, they can’t take hundreds of thousands of people with them. Nor can NATO enforce an end to the violence that will come after Assad falls because the entire doctrine of Obama Inc. is to let the rebels win and then hold elections. That led to ethnic cleansing of Africans in Libya. It led to a Muslim Brotherhood coup in Egypt. It will lead to far worse in Syria.

The only choice Obama can offer Assad is genocide or NATO bombings. That’s not much of a choice. And considering Hama, it is not at all improbable that Assad will pull the trigger if the fighting moves close enough to Damascus.

Well if they do, it'll be a fitting end to the massacring extremists that drove out all the jews and christians in Aleppo and elsewhere in Syria.

Saddam will rest easy knowing his WMD were put to good use ;)

  • Thomas Wells

Chemicals tend to stay in one area. Contrast them with biological germ weapons like small pox, plague, and others that Assad may let loose in a Gotterdammerung last fling. Disease agents that infect people can travel all over the world. The influenza pandemic of 1918 killed many more people than did WW I. The "Syrian" war may have to be fought on many fronts, not just stern memos.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe intel coming from this white house. I believe Obama's WH Muslim Brotherhood staffers will use Taqiyya and Kitman to bring down the Syrian regime. e.g., After NATO bombs the Syrian military into oblivion, we can expect to hear that the Jordanian government have secret plans to gas their people, or something. /S

So, you are saying if Obama does nothing but twiddle his fingers, we get to watch the horrible muslims kill each other? Cool, if Obama has shown us anything, he's proved that he's always willing to promote violence between and among muslims. The best solution is always the one with the least amount of moving parts. Or, so I've heard.

I do not believe Obama was warning Assad, I think it was a cue to go for it!

"I do not believe Obama was warning Assad, I think it was a cue to go for it!"

Comfort me by explaining the reason if you don't mind. All of the MB want Assad out of the way for many reasons. Unblocking Assad allows them access to the Shia Iranian regime. They must destroy it on their way to the (tee hee) global caliphate. That's their objective. Not to mention adding another tally to their MB terror state list of conquests.

BTW, Obama is MB, not Shia.

      Tamara, exactly.

It's not really funny. I'm not laughing at all. I'm actually pulling for Assad to remain one of the few rational players in a region full of psychotics. He had to play like the psychotic to stay in the game. Under the above circumstances, chemical weapons deployment would be a rational move.

That is sad and not funny. I hate that I laughed when I first read it.

If you want to find the most authentic representation of what it would be like for Assad facing these lunatics, check out, "The Walking Dead" series during the zombie attacks, and then add homosexual rape, and instead of burning the zombie corpses after the battle, the zombies burn the humans alive while raping them.

The accuracy of my statement may not be 100%, but reflecting on the reality is what took my humor away. It's worse than any of us can ever imagine.

Obama is bluffing and Assad has the upper hand with his chemical AND biological germ weapons :OR:

Obama will take out Assad, no matter what Assad releases;because Obama and his minion don't give a damn about how many dead bodies-Syrian,Israeli,European, American, etc, that it takes to form the Caliphate. Besides Obama and company are already vaccinated.

Correct. Assad has been demonized in the West and of course in Sunni nations and groups. 0'Bama needs no real pretext. I'm sure he has a list already for attacking when he really needs it, like say the Benghazi investigation heats up. There are only so many huge wars one can start and you must save those opportunities for their most politically effective time. 0'Bama may be an fool about many things, but he knows his political strengths among his crazy constituents.

    muslims killing muslims!! Giggle snort!!

And now we know where President Stinky's (BO) iraqi namesake sent the WMDs that didn't exist! Let's hope many muslims meet allah courtesy of assad, and the two husseins! They'll get their reward from allah the moon god when the 72 virgins get back from Comic-con.

Millions, Mr Greenfield. Millions. 40% of Syria is not Sunni, its Christian Alawait, Shi'a, Druze, and a host of others
Thank god the Jews are outa that place. And Egypt. And Libya. And Morocco
Pretty soon out of France Britain and Germany, Holland and Italy where the Muslim Brothers are running the anti-semitic show

    • Daniel Greenfield

Obviously they can't take millions, but they can't even take the hundreds of thousands of the elite and their families.

  • W. C. Taqiyya

On a more serious note. It's yet to be determined what Assad's intention is with his chemical weapons, if he even has any and if they are still usable. After mixing the component chemicals to make sarin gas, it has a shelf life of a couple weeks, more or less. I don't blindly trust anything Washington D.C. has to say and there have been contradictory statements coming from inside the defense department. So, we shall see. Assad may be bluffing or making a play for escape or just recovering his old porn collection. Nobody knows what, if anything, is inside those bunkers.

What happens if he has them and he drops a few bombs or fires some shells? Well, it depends. If he drops some on Israel, he dies very quickly and (hopefully) most of his supporters and family die. If he drops some gas on Aleppo or some other rebel concentration, lots of folks die. And Assad will be killed along with his family and his supporters. The Alawite sect will be wiped off the face of the earth. There is no force on earth that could stop the rebels and every other person in Syria from going into full berserker mode. So, he's screwed if he uses them. Totally screwed. NATO intervention would be superfluous and a waste of money, so is not worth talking about. So, will he use them? No, he will not. If anything, he will render them useless (water breaks those chemicals down very quickly, right?) per the commands and conditions of whoever gives him asylum. Russia direct by plane or via Turkey or Iraq or Jordan is my guess. Temporary asylum for him, maybe permanent for his family and some few select friends. This is the well worn template for such things, I'm not really a sorcerer.

    • Thomas Wells

You don't need to be a sorcerer to remember that Hitler ordered the Nazis to resist to the death, and many did. Hitler wanted to bring down the curtain in a blaze of fire and brimstone. After all. if Assad and his Alawites are going to be slaughtered anyway, they may feel-oh WTF, let take as many with us as we can.
Dumping plague, smallpox, and other biological agents, as a parting gesture would mess up more than just Syria. Check your vaccination dates.

      • objectivefactsmatter

Assad is not Hitler, but he's not facing Western foes really. We're just supplying all of the resources. The Islamic imperialists are doing the planning and fighting. You know what that means: Anything goes. You don't hold back when fighting totalitarian maniacs who lift their arses to the moon 5 times a day while imagining they are being obedient to some god.
