Will Saddam’s WMDs Fall into the Hands of Al Qaeda?

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is a New York writer focusing on radical Islam. He is completing a book on the international challenges America faces in the 21st century.

Probably one of the most despicable lies perpetrated by the Democratic Party was the claim that Saddam Hussein had no WMDs. It was a lie of political convenience by a party whose top politicians had asserted the exact opposite until it became more convenient for them to jump on a new bandwagon.

After all that there would be a certain historical irony if Saddam’s WMDs were indeed finally found, but by Islamist terrorists into whose hands they fell after almost a decade of liberal political malfeasance culminating in their irresponsible support for the Sunni side in the Syrian Civil War.

Let’s map what that would look like

1. The Democrats sabotaged the Iraq War by preventing any enforcement action against the Syrian origin of the suicide bombers and terror squads in the early days of the post-war period. Meanwhile Iraqi WMDs had been smuggled into Syria.

2. The Democrats took power and then backed an Arab Spring that put Syria into the crosshairs of the Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaeda, exposing the WMDs to those terrorists.

3. Either the terrorists get their hands on the WMDs, in which case the likelihood of them being used on the US or Israel is very high.

4. Alternatively Syria turns them over to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard which ships them to Iran.

But back to the story

As the regime of Bashar Assad disintegrates, the security of his chemical arsenal is in jeopardy. The No. 2 general in Saddam Hussein’s air force says they were the WMDs we didn’t find in Iraq.

In 2006, former Iraqi general Georges Sada, second in command of the Iraqi Air Force who served under Saddam Hussein before he defected, wrote a comprehensive book, “Saddam’s Secrets.”

It details how the Iraqi Revolutionary Guard moved weapons of mass destruction into Syria in advance of the U.S.-led action to eliminate Hussein’s WMD threat.

As Sada told the New York Sun, two Iraqi Airways Boeings were converted to cargo planes by removing the seats, and special Republican Guard units loaded the planes with chemical weapons materials.

There were 56 flights disguised as a relief effort after a 2002 Syrian dam collapse.

There were also truck convoys into Syria. Sada’s comments came more than a month after Israel’s top general during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Moshe Yaalon, told the Sun that Saddam “transferred the chemical agents from Iraq to Syria.”

Just to add to the general cheerful tidings, there are claims, unverified, that some WMDs were transferred to Hezbollah.

The stupid part is the leftist nut jobs called us all crazy for believing that the WMD were smuggled out to Syria instead of "destroyed". Now who's crazy?

Exactly, elected democraps knew about the WMDs and what happened to them, but their media worked overtime obfuscating the truth. They did the same thing with Fast and Furious and Benghazi. Then the leftwing kooks that populate the blogosphere eat the propaganda up like sugar. That's why they are known as useful idiots.

There's even video of these Syrian "rebels" openly using chemical weapons on animals…how the heck did they get their hands on chemical weapons?

    5. Assad and his crew go out with a bang and not a whimper, by releasing all their chemical and biological-germ weapons in a finale from hell. The chemicals would do damage in the middle east region, but the germs such as plague, smallpox etc. are contagious and would not just stay put. Diseases would spread into rich and poor countries alike. The whole world has a stake in the outcome in Syria.

So the videos that led to the presumption that Saddam's WMD were transported by the Soviets to Syria were true. One has to wonder what else is in Syria's stock pile to be concerned about? Can we also thank Barack Hussein Obama II for fanning the Arab spring Middle East nightmare?

I well remember when both the two stripped airplanes and the Soviet truck convoys, were reported back then. Further, there was another Iraqi, one of Saddam's scientists. who wrote a book: The Bomb in my Garden, where he said that scientists like him were instructed to take and keep WMD components at home in order to keep them from the eyes of the UN Weapons Inspectors.

Yes, Saddam Hussein got rid of his most powerful weapons because he was about to be attacked.

or to hide from new weapon inspections, keep his power, avoid trial, and leave in exile.

This applies to other people in the government besides Saddam.

@ignatzz, Saddam sent his airforce to iran in the first gulf war, FACT .Why? Makes no sense, why get rid of mig 29's etc if you are fighting against the allied coalition? Saddam was strategically and tactically stupid at every level. I mean, why ship your best weapons (fighter bombers) to your arch enemy Iran? The same Iran you had just fought a bloody war for 8 years against? Saddam also had "beefs" with the the Syrian Baathists but not on the level with Iran. My Prediction is the portion of Iraq's WMD not destroyed voluntarily, were shipped to Syria. And most importantly, against nations without WMD -Iran, Saudi etc They were his most powerful weapons. Against the US they could only get you NUKED and piss us off beyond the Pearl Harbor level. That is why he wanted to hide his wmd in Syria.

The press lying to the American Public is not new. It began when Walter Conkrite went on TV and told the American People thet we had lost the Tet Offensive. That was a bald faced lie and he knew it but he got away with it and once the liberal press saw how easy it was to sway public opinion it was no holds barred.

Not a serious matter but the author's statement in No. 1: Meanwhile Syrian WMDs had been smuggled into Syria.' , should, I believe, have been: Meanwhile IRAQI WMDs had been smuggled into Syria.
