The Cult of The Daily Kos and the Kool Aid of Political Correctness

Pages: 1 2

[Editor’s note: The article below is written by Eric Allen Bell, a filmmaker who was recently banned from blogging at  the “Daily Kos” because he wrote three articles that ran afoul of the mindset there, specifically naming “” as a “terrorist spin control network.” He has told his story in his Frontpage article, which went viral around the world, The High Price of Telling the Truth About Islam. Don’t miss Eric Bell on Frontpage’s television program, The Glazov Gang.]

It was like something out of a zombie movie.  The protagonist finds himself surrounded by lifeless, mindless monsters in a catatonic trance state, unstoppable, charging at him from every angle.  And no matter how many times he fires at them with his super powerful automatic machine gun, they just keep coming at him, over the hills, through the windows, bursting through the floorboards – waves and waves of lifeless zombies for as far as the eye can see.

Such was the case last October when, after having written numerous blogs for The Daily Kos, a liberal blog with an estimated readership of over 1 million visitors per day, they came for me – the dreaded “Kossacks” those registered Daily Kos readers who log on to offer “constructive criticism” of the blogs.

To learn more about my eventual exile from the liberal blogosphere and how I turned to the dark side, please read The High Cost of Telling the Truth About Islam”.  They say a Conservative is a Liberal who got mugged.  But what do you call a Liberal who was tarred and feathered, then publicly stoned (I’m pretty sure a privately stoned Liberal is now simply called a “Ron Paul supporter”), sent before a firing squad of Taqiyya trained Islamofacists who fire rounds of deceptive chapter and verse – quoted from the psychotic ramblings of some ancient desert psychopath, then pounded by the meat grinder of his own conscience and finally sent to a Halal butcher to be slaughtered by Islamophobia watchdog sites such as and CAIR?  Well, whatever that is, that’s me.  So glad we have this time together.

But I digress.  The piece I posted on the Daily Kos that fateful October morning was a bit of social commentary I had authored and entitled “Manifesto for a World Gone Off its Meds”.  I thought it was a pretty snappy title myself, complete with a short video I had produced illustrating that the way we were living in America was a life out of balance, consumed by consumerism, addicted to entertainment, politically divided, distracted and confused and brainwashed by the media.  I remember thinking to myself, “You’ve really hit it out of the ballpark this time, Bell”.  But sadly, not a single comment that day or in the days that followed had anything at all to do with my actual piece.  I don’t know if anyone even read the article or watched the video.  Instead I was about to face a sudden stampede of Liberal Lemmings, a sort of social tsunami – I was about to experience firsthand the tyranny of mob rule.

I was met with a chorus of outrage over my word choice in naming the piece.  That’s right, the title.  The Kossacks were deeply offended at the use of the phrase “off its meds” given that this might offend someone else who actually is on their meds or perhaps had gone off their meds.  Most of the time I don’t respond to comments on articles I write, but this time I made the fatal mistake of trying to defend myself.  This turned out to be a really bad idea, kind of like trying to put out a fire using the nearest can of gasoline.

The countless Kossacks comments multiplied from dozens, to a hundred to north of a hundred of what might  be termed, had it become a cause on Kos, “PETA: People for the Ethical Treatment of those on Antidepressants”.  There was a furious chorus of consensus that my article should be banned as it was clearly “hate speech” directed at those unfortunate people who have to take psychiatric meds and/or have gone off their meds.  The Kossack comrads stood in solidarity, incensed at my level of insensitivity as they kept demanding that a moderator come in and take the article down.

Dear Eric you're very funny. laughed out loud at your article. I used to be a lefty myself until I became a Christian. It changed so much of my world view. You should grab a Bible, preferably one that nobody can make any money out of.

    • elihu

Welcome to the realm of 'The Saved'! The things of the world will now begin to make sense to you!

  • TG

I am often amazed at what liberals find offensive, you had already pissed them off with the other articles, so there is nothing that you wrote that wasn’t going to be attacked. I’d have read it, clever titles get read first for me.

The are worried about offending those “those off their meds” (which is a choice), but have no qualms about using “mentally retarded” (not a choice) as an insult when they disagree with others.

  • Mike Elmore

Wish I could of laughed. Bell will be great addition to explaining the fine line of the Left that wants to make the world a better place and the one that wants to destroy it, they are two different animals. Can't wait to read more of his insightfulness. elmore

Welcome Bell, I too am an exliberal, but still am prochoice, and support gay rights. much to the chagrin of many conservative bloggers. You probably never convince the Kool Aid Drinkers about the Islamic threat, they are too afraid to face the facts that there is a problem with some cultures in our tolerant land. The more we tolerate the intolerant the more likely we will not longer have tolerance in our land.

However, I daily witness and have to deal with spoiled teens, who know very little argue about facts. Liberal bs at home. I see what liberalism has wrought upon my land and the insane behavior of too many who liberal, activist judges release and continually apologize for their violence.

  • Larry

A conservative is not a liberal that got mugged, a conservative is someone who has actually grown up and turned into an adult.

Would a Liberal ever defend the right of one whose words offend another, if the one is offended that the other took offense? In terms they may understand, that would be "fairness" as defined by the Obama Doctrine. Fat chance.

Oops, I hope I didn't offend one of the many obese, liberal Obots on Obama’s unsuitably named “Truth Team“ .

  • tagalog

Well, you can congratulate yourself for not cravenly groveling at the altar of correctness like Albert Maltz (his article "What Shall We Ask of Artists?" in the New Masses) so many years ago.

  • YetWave

The story of your awakening and the subsequent torchlight and pitchfork parade held in your honor reminds me very much of the reception that the late and lamented Christopher Hitchens received following 9-11.
He was still on staff at The Nation when he departed from the party line. Having broken leftist lockstep, Hitch was savaged by his former colleagues and roundly shunned by all apparatchiks as a traitor to the cause of victimhood and misinformation.
Welcome to an unfortunately exclusive club, EAB. I hope there will be more articulate agents of influence who spit out the Kool Aid.

  • Libertyman

I thought the difference between a liberal and a cannibal is that a cannibal won’t eat their young.

(Has nothing to do what was written but it is a favorite quote. So let me apologize in advance. But then again I think the PETA people won’t be amused.)

  • Spider

Funny stuff Eric – Sorry for your abrupt initiation to the world of the left – but since you are a film maker maybe you could produce a feature film titled " Attack of the Obama Commie Zombies" I am sure it will be a biig hit.

  • kblink45

    Dear Mr. Bell,
While I welcome your repudiation of leftist babble and hypocrisy, I caution you, and your readers, on mistaking this for a conservative conversion. I do not believe that you yet understand conservatism (though I credit you for not personally claiming to be conservative). Conservatism is not just anti-left. I respectfully suggest that you pick up a copy of Hayek's The Road to Serfdom or Burke's Reflections. There is much more to conservatism than meets the eye.

  • Serafino

Thank you, Bell, for your excellent article. The Left are offended by the use of the word "meds" because you have hit a nerve with this lunatics. The brains of this breed are affected by three generations of drug use. I often tell others that if mandatory drug-testing was ordered at all levels of traditional left institutions such as public schools and colleges, most of the members of the teaching staff would not have passed it. These are degenerate products of steady drug use and they don't like it when others point it out to them. Screw them.

  • nightspore

I'm surprised the other Kossacks didn't turn on the guy who wasn't offended. After all, he (perhaps inadvertently) revealed the falseness of their outrage. It's interesting to see what pushes their buttons and what doesn't. Maybe the inference involved here was too great a leap for these types.

("Very interesting," as Sanjuro once said. Although I don't recall him showing up in either the Invasion of the Body Snatchers or the Night of the Living Dead.)

  • Rifleman

It's funny, but I've never been banned for disagreeing at a mean, extreme, intolerant, and narrow-minded conservative site, that just happens to me at those nice, inclusive, tolerant, and open-minded ‘liberal’ sites.

  • tanstaafl

Notice that there is no criticism of the contents of the article.

  • Shery

I read your last article posted here about your experience at Daily Kos. I'd love to read the articles there that brought you out, as they probably show just when and where you began to have rational thought, which is not allowed by the left. Welcome here! Look forward to your sharing more with us in the future.

  • Glenn

Ditto to Shery. Hope to see more articles from Eric Allen Bell on Front page soon.

Hang in there Eric. And welcome to the dark side. Love your stuff. I for one liked the title, but then again, I forgot to take my meds this morning.

Renault: Well, Rick, you're not only a sentimentalist, but you've become a patriot.
Rick: Maybe, but it seemed like a good time to start.
Renault: I think perhaps you're right.

Renault: It might be a good idea for you to disappear from Casablanca for a while. There's a Free French garrison over at Brazzaville. I could be induced to arrange a passage.
Rick: My letter of transit? I could use a trip. But it doesn't make any difference about our bet. You still owe me ten thousand francs.
Renault: And that ten thousand francs should pay our expenses.
    Rick: Our expenses?

Rick: Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

  • Nate Whilk

Mr. Bell, what you've experienced is solidly in the grand tradition of the left.

    From Joseph Starobin:

'Not a few have asked themselves: if they were capable of such cruelties to each other when they were a small handful of people bound by sacred ideals, what might they have done if they had been in power?…Words like "whitewash" were deemed chauvinism in reverse. The term "black sheep" was deemed chauvinistic in its essence…Both whites and blacks began to take advantage of the enormous weapon which the charge of "white chauvinism" gave them to settle scores, to climb organizational ladders, to fight for jobs and to express personality conflicts…'

'in the name of defying the witchhunt against them, the American Communists complemented it by engaging in a witchhunt of their own…'

The preceding quotes were from "American Communism in Crisis, 1943-1957," by Starobin, then-foreign editor of the American edition of the Daily Worker.

Even Dalton Trumbo fell afoul of that witchhunt. He was excoriated by his fellow Communists for, among other things, writing a description of a Negro boy as "polished and dressed in his very best" because that implied he was clean only on special occasions. See "Red Star Over Hollywood" by Ronald Radosh.

Awesome!! I get attacked regularily, not wanting to just preach to the choir. Welcome home Eric!!

  • John of Chaldea

    Conservatives are soft-hearted, but hard-headed. Liberals are soft-headed & hard-hearted.

  • Delores Kaufman

A relative of mine knew Kos, as he calls him back in the early late 1980s and early 1990's. He had told me about this guy when he got out of the service way back in 1994. It was only recently that we discovered that that LOSER was the KOS of the Daily Kos. Malcontent back then and Super malcontent NOW!

Funny the different types of people you can meet in the miltary. He was described as ackward looking and he often avoided any work that might get him dirty!
He was referred to as "brown noser" when it came to the officers by his fellows.

He called people bad names ALL THE TIME. He often stated that he hated men from the South but the women were ok because they all whores.

If you dared to disagree with him, he was known to try to get stuff blamed on you. To the point that he had FEW friends and when the guys went off base on a pass…he was usually ALONE.

Needless to say he was not popular with his fellows.

Maybe his arrogance is the origin of his Bigotted…. Daily KOOK…I mean Kos.

Don’t drink Eric Allen Bell’s Kool Aid.

  • kafir4life

The comedians Penn & Teller, who bash (nearly) everything and everybody…..except islam. Their reason?….."We have families". Perhaps it's like that with the DK, as they are just typical left wing cowards.
