Government Unions: How They Rob the Taxpayer, Terrorize Workers, and Threaten our Democracy

Frontpage is pleased to present Government Unions: How They Rob the Taxpayer, Terrorize Workers, and Threaten Our Democracy, which uncovers the shocking truth of public service unions’ corruption, thuggery, and political radicalism, and their war against capitalism and the American middle class.

Written by investigative journalist Matthew Vadum, this searing new exposé tells of the backroom dealings between public service union officials and venal politicians, the infiltration of these unions by neo-communists deeply hostile toward America and anxious to “break the system,” and the alliances they have formed with discredited groups such as ACORN and Occupy Wall Street and with Barack Obama himself. Vadum also shows how the public service workers unions are providing the muscle for the White House’s effort to force America into a hard-left turn toward socialism which guarantees that they themselves will “own” an ever growing piece of the economy.

If you're lazy, if you don't want to work, if you want a real nice paycheck and benefits, join a union.

Wisconsin and the union response to their governor is the proof of this story.

You public sector unions dont have a right to my money. I say whether or not your job is needed or if you exist at all, so pi$$ off with your sanctimonious attitude, thinking you have some kind of right in a government job. Go get a real job.

You have an idea now how a private enterprise feels about unions when they make demands for money, etc. from that entity. Unions are tools of socialism.

Whe Obama said, "you didn't build that" he was trying to program people into believing they are "entitled" to a portion of a business's success, simply because they may or may not have paid a little tax money that helped some create some infrastructure!

  • marios

Leader of first socialistic revolution V. Lenin named Unions "school of communism". Unions are instrument for power seizing. US Unions are accomplices of Democratic party. Obama used stimulus package billions to paid of Unions and keep GM and Chrysler Unions alive. Unions each election contribute ML$ to Democraps plus they organize their members as voters for Dem party. Unions members get 2 times higher salaries plus unbelievable benefits in comparison with private sector. They actually parasites as they live at least partially on our taxpayers account.
Unions destroy our economy making businesses non-competent in free market. This situation should be changed.

    • johnnywoods

Even that old socialist FDR opposed public sector unions and that should tell you all you need to know about them.

What a bunch of lowlifes these people are. Money for nothing (and by the looks of some of them) ice cream for free.

“There is one thing I still don’t understand about unions in general. They oppose and fight against states’ “Right to Work” laws because they lose dues paying members. Well if the services they provide were so fantastic, why do they have to force members to join?”

    • Fritz

Because they aren't, I would estimate that in Canada at least 30% of the unionized workforce are only members of the union because Canada is the last country where union membership is allowed as a condition of employment.

    • Dr.Paladin

For the same reason we have to "force" everyone to pay for defense expenditures-if you don't, you get too many FREE RIDERS. Conservatives like us are getting too dogmatic. That is what caused the liberals to lose their hold on power. Unions-public and private–have often played a role in getting deserved benefits for many Americans-not just union members.

Some unions have overreached. Many unions have overreached in states like California. Let us stop that now!

But let us not forget that unions were at their strongest when America was at its most prosperous

Mitt Romney was not the only speaker at the RNC to come out in favor of school choice, a policy that would decimate the teachers unions and break their stranglehold on education, with its anti-American curriculum. Here is a blog that reviews how Democrats are attempting to reform education, with unrealistic hopes about the flexibility of the teachers unions. http://clarespark.com/2011/08/31/review-steven-br…. You guys are so right. Teachers, firemen, police, sanitation workers are overpayed freeloaders and should be working for minimum wage without benefits. Why can't everyone be an employer, "job creator", or entrepreneur?

    • SmashTheUnion

/Yawn, yup you hit the nail on the head. Thats the biggest problem we see with unions…free loading and overpaid firemen….

Why should the public be forced to foot the bill for a police officer who is promoted to captain the day he retires, via a contract they had no say in and cannot be changed?
Why cant teachers be held accountable or fired for poor performance?
Why should the public be forced to foot the retirement bill for a sanitation worker and their spouse for the rest of their lives?
Why can't non-union shops get govt contracts in MA?

smash the unions, watch productivity go up.

Minimum wage — right. Without benefits — right. But just so we are on the same page, in Wisconsin, Scott Walker kept intact collective bargaining for wages, but made unions (excepting the Fire Dept and the Police by the way!!) to have to pay some (although much less then their private sector counterparts) toward medical insurance. So really, let's not play a violin about unions. People to take their jobs (weighing heavily on "Govered Group Member" representation) know going in that their benefits are very good and tend to be better than private folks. The private sector can't play the poor me card — they have to produce so that the company can make a profit. The scare ploy about the Fire Department and Police in Ohio's SB5 worked. Never mind about what is best for the state. Unions are the sqeaky wheel and they are very good at "getting the most grease".

    • Ron P

I'm no expert, but the way I understand it, in some states a union worker can game the way the calculate the pension by not taking sick days or vacation the last year so the calculation can sometimes give a retired worker a bigger check in retirement by adding those days wages to their salary thus appearing as though they make more than they really did in real salary. In our state a negotiated contract between an elected official, who takes campaign donations from the union, and the union negotiator is not in the taxpayers interest. When a contract has a garuanteed(excuse the spelling ) payout, why, if its 8% say, in years when the return is higher doesn't this get banked as a credit towards the future, and why is it even constitutional for it to be garunteed(excuse) by the taxpayer, thats what insurance companies are for, the risk!!!!

  • amused

brilliant ! mr. SmashTheUnion , lol….that one went right over your PINhead !Any retirement ANNUITY is for life ,whether public or private sector / whether union or non-union . ALL retirement funds are ANNUITIES , in which coverage for a spouse means a lower monthly payment .Mostly ALL pension funds are ANNUITYs issued by the Nations largest insurance companies, who make out like bandits , the funds are invested by tyhose companies , while their profits are not capped , but the payment to the employee who retires IS . If you get $x a month for the rest of your life , it does not increase . YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT , you're just another IGNORANT meme parrot. Productivity of the American worker has gpone up EVERY YEAR and continues to. WHY should Municipal or Govt.Employees be excluded from a retirement ?Slackers permeate all sectors of the work force . You're wet behind the ears CHUMP.

    • fiddler

Dude, others here have been in unions. They are for the most part parasites and drag down productivity, hurt the company's market share and drive up costs.

If you don't care about containing costs, then you are in a world by yourself. But when people deliberately sit on their posterior and don't do their job, because the union will protect them, there is significant waste. Unions largely are a product of the past, when they were once legitimate (as illustrated in the Stalone movie, "F.I.S.T."). The movie does know, later however corruption that enters in. As a tax payer I have a problem with people wanting me to fund their medical insurance en todo while it is hard for them to be fired if they screw up. Then with their "collective usury" they manage to lobby for more or my tax money, because we all know that they are "better than sliced bread".

    • fiddler

The worst part of it, is their own work ethic becomes infected by a "THEY OWE ME" mentality, which refuses to care about efficiency or the people they serve. Because their union dues extorted ostensibly to cover union costs (I guess) they knowingly or unknowingly support politicians they may or may not agree with. Doesn't matter. If you want to dance, you have to pay the piper. Don't you worry about where that dues money goes to!! Are you being "disloyal"? Shame on you!!

    • fiddler

"Productivity of the American worker has gpone up EVERY YEAR and continues to. "

Totally and completely laughable (regarding unions). I've seen for myself. The product of which is a plant where he worked for 25 years CLOSE! Corruption, and ME mentality looking for others sharing the same malignant thought.

    • Ron P

public sector unions have no right to my money, they can have retirement accounts and retirement health care just like the rest of us. Federal and many state workers average pay is twice or 50% higher than the average private sector worker. Oh and public sector workers jobs are rarely at risk(that means almost impossible to get fired for those of you who the shoe its), need very few qualifications, and rarely are the best qualified, as most of us know, that public workforce could be reduced by at least 33% and the good, competent workers left could get more done. Annuity or what ever, the insurance companies provide an incredible service. If you don't like it, you can always learn to invest and save for yourself or retirement, nobody is forcing you, dimwit!! Wow you have 45 years to prepare for retirement, oh I forgot they don't teach crap or not a lot useful stuff in our world class union controlled schools, too bad, maybe when you get out of high school, you can really learn something.
