The America we knew is gone. The enemy we face is ruthless and believes that the ends justifies the means. The Tea Parties have allowed timid, spineless, and corrupt Rhinos to call the shots.Celebrities and politicians have totally libeled the Tea Parties without paying the price. If the Tea Parties don't figure out a way of becoming aggressive, intimidating and respected(a force to be reckoned with)I don't believe they will survive.I do not want to wait two generations for a solution that I won't be here to see. What would The Sons Of Liberty do today? Any ideas anyone?

I have been to several teaparty meetings, they are not for big government. They stand on principles and values, stop the spending on wasteful things. Create a workable budget which the Senate has not done in almost 4 years. Entitlements are for the politicians who do not serve the people who elected them. Most of us ordinary citizens could do a better job of balancing the checkbook and getting priorities that matter in place. Self-serving politicians should be voted out of Washington..the teaparties are a reminder of what our founding fathers outlined for a stable and prosperous society...David Barton has excellent reading materials on the rights of the American people, and how they have been infringed upon.

"Be more flexible"?? In what ways should they be more flexible? And why is it that conservatives and Tea Party people are always urged to be more 'flexible' and 'compromise,' yet this is never required of liberals or the Democrats? And what guarantee is there that once the Tea Party s more flexible, they will eventually get ther way? As I see it, every compromise of the Tea Party principles (which are essentially Constitutional ones) only helps to erode their cause. We must recognize that no amount flexibility or compromise will be good enough for the Left until the Tea Party itself morphes into the Democratic Party - and then what need is there for the Tea Party?

Quoting the author:
we believe in free markets. Second, we believe in a constitutionally-limited government. Third, we believe in fiscal sanity.

These are the three tenets – and the only tenets – of the Staten Island Tea Party.

If more teaparty/conservative movements would adhere to such a platform, there would be a lot more membership and contribution of participant time and funding.

Unfortunately, many, if not most of the conservative factions in the USA implicitly require a person to be a Christian, or at least Catholic, and assume that all member will fall in line on issues like abortion, gay rights, gun ownership, and definition of marriage.

I personally happen to be a non-theist, (atheist by assumption) and as such I am automatically assumed to be liberal, which is not true.

The Staten Island teaparty has a good philosopy in this regard, because as Mr Santarpia says, "social issues are too nuanced"

Typical Tea Party response. I said be more flexible, what more do you want. It does not, I repeat, does not happen overnight which is want you want. You, in particular are starting to sound like BO, and I know who BO is.

Rand Paul as the choice! Oh dear! He was the only one not to attend Bibi's speech. How awful! I've never felt Rand Paul or his father represented me or the Tea Party spirit at all. Way too much isolationism and anti-Israel (=anti-Semitism) and alliance with Islamic groups. While not among the 3tea party issues mentioned here, this is not irrelevant. With friends like those of the Pauls, nothing else positive for our country really matters.
I am sorry, too. I like this fellow's responses and agree with much he says about the good natured and enthusiastic tea party participants I have met. I wish him well. Just maybe do a bit more research and deep thinking.

And what part of the doctrine is wrong? If you are going to say that, then state what you are driving at. That is a tactic of the left. Make an accusation and move on without defending it.

I am a proud native of Staten Island. the only "red" borough in NYC. Despite the fact that I fled NY years ago, it is nice to see that conservatism is still alive and well in S.I. Thanks to FPM for going to the one of most unlikely places in America to find the Tea Party movement thriving.

I believe in part of the Tea Party Doctrine, even though they are partially right, they aren't completely right.
One of the 2 major parties have to be more closely aligned with Tea Party principals, and the question is which one. It is obvious it is not the Democrats, all they want to do is TAX AND SPEND. Although the Republicans want to TAX AND SPEND too, at least it is not quite as much, at least I don't think so.
Tea Partyers, don't be quite so adamant, rather be more flexible, you will get it your way, eventually.
