The professoriate has been entirely taken over by persons who agree with the late Eric Hobsbawm. Not only in history, but in comparative literature and English departments as well, indeed all of the humanities. I wrote about the Hobsbawm synthesis here: http://clarespark.com/2012/12/08/hobsbawm-obama-i.... "Hobsbawm, Obama, Israel." Ironically, Hobsbawm had little use for youth culture, still smarting perhaps from the rejection of the CP by European youth in 1968.

A person who can actually write that it's a negative thing that the student activism of the 1960s is no longer, and regrets its passing, is a person who never experienced it. Try to get a college education when your classes are shut down by occupying protestors or professors who are sympathetic to the protestors.

Too bad the college instructors and administrators from that period are either dead or long since retired, and only the students, who had a great time cutting classes and meeting chicks, are still around. The story of that time is pretty one-sided by now.

The left has become the most regressive force in the world today.

Just look how the left comes to the defense of an ideology which hijacks passenger planes and flys them into buildings, assassin of US Senator Bobby Kennedy, heads of state that openly call for genocide.

The left is morally bankrupt.

The left has become the new Fascism.

I find it simultaneously amusing and irritating that these old hippie academics are trying to instigate violence and fascism in their young charges . Obviously, the aging profs are trying to relive their glory days and find and opportunity to be "relevant" once again. Ah, those wonderful days when anything was allowed and freedom of expression was paramount. Except of course the freedom to dissent from leftist orthodoxy. Revolution for revolution's sake was the goal. Anyone who does not identify with the leftist program must be suppressed and silenced. That is the goal of all leftists: to eliminate dissent and establish the leftist state. Whereby, old hippies like Professor Coates can once again find meaning in their dreary lives. And deny others the rights they would keep all to themselves.

Universities is where the non-breeding leftists recruit Other People's (once-) Babies. Well actually they start before that, in the regular school system, but in my experience, University cranks all that stuff up to Eleven. The mind-numbing brainwashery of the past 40 years in regular school is mild tame stuff compared to what's going on at Universities everywhere.

The problem is, the sickness is contagious; those that they convert are often likely to have fewer kids to brainwash into red diaper babies.

There's something wrong with a professor that thinks that students need to be protesting instead of studying. My diagnosis is Purple Koolaiditis with a hefty does of NDPism.
