Carter Casts Shadow over Democratic Convention

Pages: 1 2

Presidential conventions are supposed to be an extended advertisement for the party’s standard-bearer, a finely scripted effort to cast the candidate in the best possible light. So it’s hard to see the rationale behind the Obama administration’s decision this week to showcase President Jimmy Carter – by common consent one of the worst if not the worst president in American history – in a prime-time video speaking spot at next month’s convention.

Most obviously, the inclusion of the outspokenly anti-Israel ex-president, whose contributions to Middle East peace include denouncing Israel as an “apartheid state” and making repeated overtures to anti-Israel terror groups like Hamas, highlights Obama’s frayed relationship with the Jewish state. From his famously frigid relationship with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to his misguided call for Israel to return to pre-1967 borders, to his public rebuffs of Israeli appeals for a more robust response to Iran’s steadily progressing nuclear program, to his refusal to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s rightful capital, Obama has consistently found himself on the wrong side of issues important to Israel and her supporters in the Jewish community. Indeed, pro-Israel advocates and activists have long suggested that Obama might be the president most hostile to Israel since Carter.

Carter’s appearance at the Democratic Convention can only further cement that dubious connection. There aren’t many issues that can bring the Republican Jewish Coalition and the National Jewish Democratic Council together, but this seems to be one of them. Both groups assailed Carter’s speaking role, with NJDC president David Harris writing:

“When it comes to Israel and the Middle East, President Carter has unfortunately embarrassed himself — as his analysis and commentary has been stubbornly wrong, harmful to the peace process, and getting worse all the time.”

The anti-Carter backlash could spell trouble for Obama, whose support is down among Jewish voters. After winning between 74 and 78 percent of the Jewish vote in 2008, the president is now backed by a still-dominant but notably diminished 64 percent of registered Jewish voters. Apparently recognizing that this could be an electoral liability, particularly in swing states with high-concentrations of Jewish voters like Florida, the Obama administration has recently embarked on a charm offensive aimed at Jewish voters, stressing its defensive ties with Israel and talking tough on Iran. But if offering coveted convention airtime to one of Israel’s most prominent public foes doesn’t entirely discredit that campaign, at a minimum it does not aid it. His political toxicity is surely one reason why Carter was a notable absentee from the 2008 Democratic Convention.

Dhimmi Carter, prepare for the next One-Term President.

    Barak Hussein Obama.

But Dhimmi, you will always be known as THE WORST US PRESIDENT E-V-E-R.

    • CHOI

Actually,Carter has PASSED the WORST MANTLE to guess who.
The mere fact that they want him to speak in prime time shows where they are on EVERYTHING.
They're actually PROUD of Dhimmi Jimmy.

    • Bert

There may be some actual method to the apparent madness of the Democrats. Suppose that someone calculated that there are more Democrat votes for an anti-Israel posture and for a pro-Israel position. Caroline Glick of the Jerusalem Post made just such a case based on analyzing the current Obama campaign.

  • mlcblog

Seems to be Jimmy has been being lionized by the Dems over recent years, he is now more liberal than evah.

It looks like hillary talked hussein into political suicide to set herself up for '16.I would think carter would be the last person team hussein would want to bring up during their campaign.

That wicked old hypocrite – let him cast his shadow on their convention. He was the true beginning of the troubles in the Middlle East. If the truth was ever known about how he tried to shake down the Shah the world would see it wasn't pure motives that caused his refusal to support The Shah. None of those guys were good guys but they were our guys and this idiot unbalanced the whole apple cart with his meddling. Look at the new leaders – they're required that in that part of the world.

Carter, the one with peanuts for brains, and Barack Hussein Obama are both infcted by a muslim virus.

  • Amused

Agreed , " Jimma " is best left in the closet .If anything , he will accentuate an anti-Israel view ,and not to mention his complete failure as President . LOL….perhaps ,there might be a place somewhere for Monica
Well we are in the last 90 days [thank goodnes] but the spectacle will now go into high gear .The Republicans get to "kick-off " the hostilities .
"The Mother of all spectacles " will now begin . Plenty of "amusement for all " ,as the super-pacs on both sides ramp up ' despicable tv ads " like the recent Obama "Romney killed a woman " bit . And talk about "suicide " ?Romney Campaign's Saul response ? LOL…"she wouldn't have died if she was in Massachussettes".. under it's healthcare plan [ ROMNEY-CARE ] !!! She did sorta…kinda redeem herself .. by referring to that "despicable " ad .

  • kafir4life

They could really make the appearance of Carter a watershed moment. Carter could hand Stinky the torch (Olympic Style), as Stinks takes the mantle as the Number One worst President in history, as Carter takes the Silver. If they're on stage together, you could say that since number one and number two are together…everybody FLUSH!

  • Amused

The " extra bonus " of this latest ,soon to be the norm attack ad campaigns was, you got to see Ann Coulter doing a meltdown on national tv , wagging index finger and all , demanding Saul's head , and that Romney supporters "should not donate another dime unless she's FIRED" !
Of course Coulter later followed with one of her own TRADEMARK ,dumbass satements …Obama's vote base consisting of " Stupid Single Women " ….LOL…..PRECIOUS !!
Let the show begin ! Yes " Suicide " can be AMUSING …..political that is .

    • Drakken

The problem you have is Coulter is right.

Here's a hot stock TIP , short term of course …..Duct Tape …and Muzzle stocks are gonna take off /. BUY !

I think it is great. So far in this election cycle, Carter's speaking at the convention is the second best thing I am looking forward to most. That crazy old man is sure to deliver something we can all laugh at for years to come.

Of course the one thing I am most looking forward to is Obama doing the perp walk.

  • Marty

dhimmi carter is the perfect choice to speak at the democratic convention. his presence there will hopefully alienate more Jewish voters even if he's able to keep his rampant anti-semitism and sympathy with terrorists and murderers contained. That carter is considered respectable in this party is telling and instructive. he's revealing the moral hypocrisy and bankrupt ideology of the political left. This travesty might even be worth watching if only because it will be a source of dark amusement. It's possible that carter's appearance might remind viewers of the destructive policies the democratic party endorses and sustains.

THE WORLD has been dealing with Jimmy Carter's IRAN for 30 years and now THE WORLD will be dealing with Obama's ARAB SPRING for generations!

"Visualize World Peace?" I say "Visualize a world without the Mullahs of Iran!" The weakness of Carter led to more adventures and by the SOVIET UNION who invaded Afghanistan and then their teaming up with OUR COMMUNIST PARTY USA TO TAKEOVER CENTRAL AMERICA which settled down with "peace agreements" after the fall of the Soviet Union. BUT, when Bush was concentrating on the Middle East, CHAVEZ was taking over South and Central America. Obama, a KGB DUPE AND RECRUITED BY CPUSA FRONTS IN THE 80'S, as well as HILLARY AND PANETTA, they encouraged the COMMUNIST takeovers, the buying of elections and outright fraud THAT JIMMY CARTER, as an election observer and who only observes elections where COMMUNIST/DICTATORS/HATE U.S. STEAL ELECTIONS that he puts his signature on.

When Honduras President Manuel Zelaya was ousted by his own Supreme Court, AND HIS VICE-PRESIDENT, for ignoring their Constitution, OBAMA AND HILLARY were quick to demand his return. When the 80's El Salvadorean COMMUNIST FMLN rebels won the Presidency three years ago, HILLARY was the high-ranking U.S. official at the inauguration. Obama then visited El Salvador, where Rev. Wright got his Liberation Theology, to praise their democracy. He also got tips on how to bribe the people WITH HAND-OUTS CHAVEZ STYLE.

CARTER'S SPEECH: "I endorse Barack Obama because I have been labeled by history as being the worst President in America's history. Obama has surpassed my disastrous reign and if re-elected, my Presidency will be forgotten altogether. Obama. Obama. Obama!"

  • Schlomotion

Mr. Laksin's link demonstrating that Jimmy Carter is the worst President by popular consent is bogus. American Thinker says so, but American Thinker is not the popular consensus. Mr. Laksin is just whining that Mr. Carter has the fortitude to call Israel out for being untrustworthy and belligerent as a state. This article is an example of Zionists trying to manufacture consent because one of our duly elected political leaders offends their foreign nationalist sensibilities.

    • Drakken

You have just proved to everyone here that you are dumber than a bag of hammers. Please by all means keep siding with the very muslim savages that want to dead, maybe they will spare you, but I highly doubt it because of folks like you, Darwin always proves himself right.

I think it is entirely appropriate for Jimmy Carter to speak at the Democrat convention. After 4 years of what has effectively become the second term of the Carter Administration, he is the best choice to deliver the eulogy for it.

  • Nakba1948

While Mr. Carter fell short as president in many ways, I admire his principled stance on the Middle East and his unwillingness to cave into Zionist pressure like the vast majority of Washington politicians. That you nuts so glibly denigrate this man of conscience speaks volumes about the Zionist-neocon mindset.

    • LibertyMan

Yeah … I guess you are right… the willfull wanting of genocide of Christians and Jews by Islamic Terrorists is a slight quirk we have … we just don't like genocide… where Jimmy's high moral position of supporting extremists is just the unreachable height of integrity for you Nakba. You will just have to forgive us on that slight quirk. Maybe with more insight you can help change us. Thank you for your input.

      • Nakba1948

Can you cite any evidence of President Carter advocating for or supporting the genocide of Jews and Christians by Islamist groups or his ideological support for any groups considered a terrorist by the U.S. State Department?

        • Kufar Dawg

          Hamas. Suck it up buttercup.

          • Nakba1948

That’s dropping a name, not citing evidence. A high school diploma or GED might help you grasp the distinction. Care to try again, buttercup?

          • CHOI

Supporting HAMAS is THAT evidence and you KNOW IT,because YOU FEEL THE SAME!

        • LibertyMan

Lol…. When a quarter of his board walks out on him because of the Jew hating spew he wrote in a book; a light should come on. And when his core partisan friends leave him it goes beyond overlooking his simple faults.

When someone who was President of the United States singles out Israel and doesn’t believe they have the right to protect their citizenry from terrorist rockets, then gets emotional for the loss of life caused by defending their borders… something is wrong with his values. That is supporting people who want to annihilate the Jews.

Jimmy, has never cried a tear for the take over and driving out of Christians in Bethlehem… or right of return of those Christians. But he believes that the Israelis should give their land to a mystical people called “Palestinians” who are actually Iraqis, Egyptians, Syrians and Jordanians.

Tell me, have you ever seen Carter get all self-righteous like he has for Terrorists, for the Jews or Christians in the area who were actual victims. He doesn’t even recognize the will of the Islamists to commit annihilation of Jews and Christians. And I fear either do you.

          • Kufar Dawg

Let's not forget the Sikhs, Jains and Hindus of the Indian sub-continent who have also been the victims of islamic genocide and ethnic cleansing for centuries.

What an attraction, the two worst presidents in American history at the same convention.

Also, no one evers mentions Jimmy Carter undermined and helped collapse at least five countries which supported the United States; how like Barack Obama.

    • Jimbo

I know he undermined Iran and Israel, what were the other countries he undermined, if you don't mind briefly explaining?

  • Iratus Vulgas

Jimmy Carter is the Barney Fife of American Presidents. That he might still have some kind of a political cachet in the eyes of Dems is comical. But then maybe the Dems mean to throw him in for some comedy relief to offset that dreary sourpuss Harry Reid.

    • Jimbo

How can you be so mean to our first black President?

Now Carter is "our 1st "Black President"?

I wonder if Jimmay Cartaw will bring Michael Moore, aka" Grungy Glutton" to sit with him at this convention.

  • Ghostwriter

Why am I not surprised that Schlockmotion and Nakba1948 once more use this occasion to bash Jews? It's like a reflex with these two. "Must blame Jews for all the world's problems!" Is it any wonder that they get attacked so often?

    • @GlendaFindley

Why do so many Jews vote for Democrats when the history of Democratic presidents by and large has been so antisemitic. I saw Gene Simmons talking about this. He admitted he voted for Obama but said he would not do it again. Why in the world did he vote for him in the first place! So little was known about Obama before he was elected but one thing I know now is that in the case of Israel, he and Carter are on the same page.

  • BLJ

You know what is reallt scary?

I would rather have old peanut head Carter in the WH than the toad we have in there now. They both suck, but the Muslim one is 100 times worse.

With the Worst President EVER Dhimmi Carter supporting Obama, Obama is sure to lose.

It's like having osama bin laden supporting Obama.

  • Asher

This should be a great self-destructive convention when everyone is reminded of the malaise that Carter caused the U.S. He was always a PLO and Hamas supporter and is to this day, going to meetings with our enemies in support of them over Israel. Mr. Peanut Farmer has a peanut brain and never learned American values. Ronald Reagan came into office on a tidal wave…he raised America back up and was the Freedom President….everytime we see carter we think of the electrifying Presidency of Ronald Reagan…the Great communicator and Patriot!

Carter still doesn’t understand the fundamental Islamic doctrines of 1) taqiyya and 2) temporary truces.

The fundamental dual ethics of Muslims makes Muslims fundamentally untrustworthy. There is never a way to believe they are being honest with non-Muslim kafirs.

Muslims are only required to be honest with one another, and then even that is not true either. Mohammed gave them permission to invent lies to reconcile Muslims to one another.

Muslims have too much lee-way for lies to ever be trusted on any subject where they can not be closely monitored and strictly held accountable.

    • Polly Wolly

It's funny, antisemites say exactly the same thing about Jewish "dual ethics."

  • theo shen

The last minute team Hussein will drop him for votes and get them.
This will be a tough fight with all the dead Americans somehow voting.

I can only think that the Democrats are so far over the deep end that they don't even know how big a failure Carter was. But by all means, give him a big role at the Democratic Convention and remind voters how Democratic policies have been failing this nation for over 35 years.

  • Indioviejo

Jimmy Carter is at home with the left wing extremist who control the Democrat Party today

  • Trent

Carter anti-Israel? Middle East peace is the central issue of his political career. The preservation and protection of Israel was his motivation for getting involved. Does that mean he has to agree 100% with the Israeli government? On Carter's status within the party, he's been invited to every DNC since 1972. He was given a keynote speech in 1992, honored with a 20 minute video tribute in 2000, and given another tribute in Denver in 2008 where he and Mrs. Carter appeared on stage – sans speech – for a 5 minute standing ovation. If you want to criticicze Carter there is plenty to go on. But he's neither an antisemite nor a party pariah.

  • Netta

To see all the negativity about my two Democratic Presidents is quite funny. President Obama won and he did not have to bow down to Isreal everytime…sweet! Obviously the republicans didn’t know what they were talking about.
