This is just the tip of the iceberg. Many innocent Christian civilians and religious leaders have died at Islamists’ hands, not to mention Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, and Muslims not considered devout enough for the Islamist killers. Scores of churches have been torched and holy sites desecrated. No offensive videos “sparked” these acts of violence. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict had nothing to do with them either. They are what Islamists do to impose their supremacist ideology.
See no evil, hear no evil has been the craven Obama administration response, until the outbreak of violence in Egypt, Libya and other Muslim countries during the last week that Obama and his State Department have wrongly characterized as one-off incidents caused by an obscure offensive anti-Muslim video. And to show the Muslim world that Obama was fulfilling his promise in his June 2009 Cairo speech to stamp out negative stereotyping of Islam in the United States, his administration took several actions that cater to Muslim sensibilities over the First Amendment.
Federal authorities detained the film-maker for questioning and tried to pressure Google, the owner of YouTube, into removing the video from its site. At the United Nations, as reported exclusively by Inner City Press, the Obama administration tried to have inserted into a press statement, issued September 12th by the Security Council on the “Attacks against U.S. Diplomatic Personnel” in Libya, language against the denigration of religions. France, which does not even have legal protections of free speech as strong as our First Amendment, thankfully blocked this incredibly craven proposal from seeing the light of day.
Islamists who value death over life, who believe their way is the only way and that kaffars (non-believers) do not deserve freedom or life will not be appeased by anything the Obama administration tries to do to put out fires the Islamists are constantly setting. Yet Obama is willing to subordinate American values of individual liberty, freedom of expression and equal treatment under the law to a system that accommodates Muslims’ special demands, including the suppression of speech that they consider insulting to their religion.
