Obama Mobilizes Religious Left Over ObamaCare

Pages: 1 2

The Obama Administration is mobilizing the Religious Left to conduct a prayer vigil outside the U.S. Supreme Court when it hears arguments about Obamacare’s constitutionality in late March. Apparently the United Methodist Building, prominently across the street from the court on Capitol Hill, will serve as headquarters for the prayer warriors. The building will host a “radio row” for pro-Obamacare broadcasts by sympathetic radio hosts.

Obviously Obamacare supporters seek to blunt widespread religious opposition to Obamacare, especially its facilitation of abortion coverage through insurance exchanges and the recent mandate compelling religious employers to cover insurance for contraception, abortifacients and sterilization.

According to The New York Times, about 100 pro-Obamacare activists representing 60 groups attended a White House meeting in early March to plot the prayer vigil and other pro-Obamacare advocacy across the Supreme Court hearing.  The overall theme will be: “Protect our health care, protect the law.”

Faithful Obamacare devotees will gather outside the U.S. Supreme Court on the morning of March 26.  “The witness will be a compassionate commitment to the common good and will provide a voice for the most vulnerable people in our society,” a Methodist lobbyist explained.  “Those on the margins of society are the most likely to be affected by the results of the Supreme Court deliberations.”

The prayer vigil’s organizer is Cleveland-based “Faithful Reform in Health Care,” whose members include the Islamic Society of North America (which has offices in the Methodist Building), Evangelicals for Social Action, the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society (owner of the Methodist Building), Presbyterian Church (USA), Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Mennonite Central Committee, and the Buddhist Peace Fellowship, among others.

Faithful Reform in Health Care, representing 60 mostly Religious Left groups, also filed an amicus brief before the U.S. Supreme Court defending Medicaid’s expansion under Obamacare. “We have elevated a moral vision for our nation’s health-care future and have raised our voices in support of affordable quality health care for all,” explained Faithful Reform’s chief, the Rev. Linda Hanna Walling.

The largest member of the Faithful Reform coalition is probably the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society, which claims to represent 7.5 million United Methodists in the U.S.  Its $5 million lobby operation in the Methodist Building on Capitol Hill is the largest Religious Left advocacy operation in Washington, D.C.  “Our United Methodist Social Principles state that providing the care needed to maintain health, prevent disease and restore health after injury or illness is a responsibility each person owes others, and government owes to all,” explained chief United Methodist lobbyist Jim Winkler.  “It is unjust to construct or perpetuate barriers to full participation in community. The United Methodist Church believes it is a government responsibility to provide all citizens with health care.”

He really ought to realize religion is none of his business.

Organizing this religious segment over another religious segment…. that's what freedom of religion is to avoid.
Government has a job, and dealing with any approved churches over another isn't one of them.

Obama is a better Christian than anyone else. He should lock you in a barn and burn it to the ground, because you are a swine and he is a Christian.

Listen up and learn beastility boy! Barack Hussein Obama was a practicing Muslim throughout his entire youth through high school, as an undergraduate at Occidental and Columbia where he studied under his selected Marxist professors, at Harvard law school, after graduating Harvard Law School, and even after passing the bar, and only converted for political reasons to the Marxist based Black Liberation Christian crackpot sect under the anti American, openly racist, anti-semite Reverend Jerimiah Wright when in his mid 30's. He is a clandestine Muslim and a vile Marxist anti-semite. Now you may return to your lover Miss Piggy!

          mrbean:
I am not criticizing you, rather I'm with you with the same sentiments. What I must question is the impressive academic list of achievments by Obama. I'll acknowledge the fact that he attended Harvard, but how do we know he ever graduated? I question his supposed certifications from the other schools, too. It's all been concealed and all we have are the claims of his PR people. We still don't really know if he is constitutionally qualified for office. Obama is a Marxist in the image of Vladimir Lenin, therefore he is much worse that a vile-antisemite. Communism is vile against any Judeo-Christian faith.
The combination of fanatic Islam and Communism are not natural mates, but are mates of convenience. The closest any Muslim government has come to combining the two has been Baathism, Saddam's "religion" and supposedly Assad's. If they were the only two religions left in this world, they'd be murdering each other. While Christianity and Judaism exist, they will concentratre on the attempted elimination of those faiths and we will be fighting them for a long time to come.

I must disagree with some of what you said. Islam and Communism are natural allies; remember,"The enemy of my enemy is my friend" ! Islam (ALL Islam) hates Christianity and will and has united with Communism. Communism hates Christianity. Keep in mind that Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin were all Jewish!

You are correct Obama is a fraud, he may have went to Harvard, (if only for a weekend trip), but he did not graduate, etc.

Unfortunately, Roger, no one is actually 'free from religion,' since everyone has a set of firmly held beliefs upon which they base their decisions, both public and private.
In the case of the Religious Left, however, one belief system is elevated above all others and the rest of us are expected to finance it with our tax dollars. It's been working quite well for the Religious Left in recent decades: https://www.facebook.com/notes/bob-larimer/a-comp

Why do you think anyone expects freedom 'from' religion instead of freedom 'of' religion?

"Get ye behind me satan" is the only thing this lot of demon worshipers would hear from our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Although, I think he would probably hope he had armour plated cloak on at the time, they would stab him and hand him over to be crusified faster than Judas, and they wouldn't even ask to be paid, they would do it for free, after all, the govt will take care of everything remember. leftards, the lot.

"The United Methodist Church believes it is a government responsibility to provide all citizens with health care.”
Show this to me in the Bill of Rights please.
The issue was never over Religious Liberty or objections. The Administration can tool exemptions for those with concerns and then what? Will the Bishops and other objecting clergy step in line with the bill? I think so.
No, our fight isn’t with the religious sensibilities being offended. Our fight is with the unconstitutional mandate forcing people to buy something merely because they breathe. THAT is where our fight is and nowhere else.

    • intrcptr2

Since they think they're still a church, maybe we could get them to point to it in the Bible.

Obama wants civil war in our country. He clashes one group citizens with another one. He buy out leaders of some groups, like Unions and, likely, Methodists church leaders. Black against white, hispanic against Americans who built this country, etc. And of course Muslims… I will not be surprised if befor November election oil price will go down. Who is in WH?

  • Kendrick1

My fight is with any who believe they have a "right" to healthcare, and with the government that promotes the same.

With very few exceptions, all should pay for and own their own health insurance. We tried the "right" approach with the beginning of the end, notably the "War on Poverty"—the cure for which there was no.
disease. (Paid for by us!) That spilled over to "Federal Aid to Education" which as destroyed our education system. (Paid for by us!) Currently we are going through a depression because the ruling class promoted the notion that everyone had a "right" to a house! (Paid for by us!)

Currently, we're saying that all females have a "right to contraception"! (Paid for by us!)

I do believe that a person has a right to anything if he or she can pay for it with their money and not mine.

We have simply sat around on our derrieres and let the government make slaves out of us by forcing us to pay for benefits for others as well as ourselves.

Aren't you guys out there tired of that? I sure am!!!

  • PDK

I`d say the religious left has given up their faith in God and opted to give their faith to the government of big brother, that in America would be the liberal democrats. BTW, with the track record liberal democrats have they are not worthy of the smallest of faith, unless the destruction of America is your targeted conclusion.

Ironic that Obamacare imposes abortion on those whose consciences see it as evil, yet Obamacare allows Muslims to be exempt from having to pay for health insurance as an exemption of conscience, as an exempt religious sect.

    Let's write to Congress (www.congress.org):

    Dear Representative:

I oppose President Obama's actions to turn our governmental agencies into Sharia-compliant socialistic entities opposed to the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, and I am expecting you, as my representative in Congress, to take action to realign our governmental agencies with the Constitution and Bill of Rights. That is your (as well as the President's) oath of office, to support and defend the Constitution from threats both foreign and domestic.

One of the rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights is that of equality under the law. Under Sharia law, Muslims have privileged status and rights not enjoyed by non-Muslims, and women are not equal to men. If you disagree, please read the definitive book of Sharia, Reliance of the Traveller (sic) (http://www.shafiifiqh.com/maktabah/relianceoftraveller.pdf) (http://www.amazon.com/Reliance-Traveller-Classic-Islamic-Al-Salik/dp/0915957728). President Obama is attempting to conform our governmental agencies to Sharia law, which enforces Islamic principles on Muslims and non-Muslims alike. For example, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (http://housedocs.house.gov/energycommerce/ppacacon.pdf), even as amended by Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, requires States to provide for health insurance, makes carrying minimal health insurance mandatory under financial penalty, and makes such penalty enforceable by the IRS, but the Act excludes Muslims as members of an exempt religious sect (See Sections 1311(d)(4)(H), 1411(b)(5)(A), and 1402(g) of the Act). In effect, this Act imposes financial penalties which can potentially be imposed by such legal action by the IRS as garnishment, confiscation and sale of property, and foreclosure . . . except for Muslims as they are exempt. In effect, this Act also paves the way for Muslim health care to be paid for by those who pay into the system via mandated health insurance. Under Sharia law, such free health care at the expense of non-Muslims would be considered jizya (tribute paid by non-Muslims).

Please repeal President Obama's Sharia-compliant, socialistic health care law, and shame on those who allowed it to become law. If you did not before, please read the Act now.

  • Mary2222

    Let's write to Congress (www.congress.org)

    Dear Representative:

President Obama has been slowly turning our governmental agencies into socialist entities that oppose the principles found in the U.S. Constitution, which includes the freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. The President is seeking to use agency regulations, which are in themselves law, to structure U.S. society in opposition to the U.S. Constitution. For example, the President's Health Care Plan makes health insurance mandatory and under the regulation of the Department of Health and Human Services. His over all plan requires all people to pay for health insurance (or be fined), that all employers provide health insurance that pays for abortions, sterilizations, contraception and euthanasia (by refusing to pay for services for the elderly), and/or that insurance companies provide such coverage for free. Abortion, sterilization contraception, and euthanasia are considered great sins by the Catholic faith and inherently wrong by many reasonable people of all faiths. To require them to fund these actions directly is against the First Amendment in both making a law which "establishes" a religion (government as god that dictates one's conscience) and "prohibits the free exercise" of one's religion.

President Obama has also consolidated small business regulation and the Department of Commerce under one governmental agency which reports directly to the President. It is on this authority that President Obama will, in effect, enforce the mandate that insurance companies provide coverage for and hospitals to provide services of abortions, sterilization, and contraception and to not pay for services for the elderly. If the insurance companies cannot afford to provide such coverage for free, or if insurance rates are raised prohibitively high in order to cover this mandate, the socialistic solution would then be to make health care/coverage a governmental function similar to the U.S. Post Office providing mail service. The problem with this "solution" is that such insurance coverage is being used to destroy the religious liberty of those individuals who oppose abortion, sterilization, contraception, and euthanasia as evil. It would be like making Planned Parenthood into the country's only health care system and requiring every citizen to pay for it. It is unconstitutional.

As a citizen of the United States, I am asking you to live up to your oath of office, wherein you swore to uphold the U.S. Constitution (which includes the Bill of Rights), and therefore to oppose, not allow, and to repeal any law, including President Obama's Health Care Plan, and to restrict any governmental agency that tramples or abolishes or opposes the principles found, provided for, and protected in the U.S. Constitution. Restore and support the rights and freedoms, including the freedom of religion and speech, as outlined by our Constitution. It is our legal foundation and one in which ALL laws and governmental agencies and Congressmen and Congresswomen should be in accord.

    Thank you.

It is time for Jim Winkler to be removed. His tenure is responsible for more American Methodists leaving the church in the last two years than any other factor.

As further evidence of the sycophantic behavior Hussein elicits from his toadies, look at "justquitnow's" choices of threads to pollute this morning. For its first pass, anyway, it is hitting those articles with "Obama" in the name. I guess the antisemitism and Republican Derangement Syndrome will have to wait, until the offertory rhetorical sacrifices to the 0ne are complete.

Justquititnow… I want to reform our health care but it is not the jurisdiction of the federal government to mandate insurance at any level. Why can’t liberals stop salivating at welfare programs and realize that if the feds can use the commerce law or necessary and proper clause..they can mandate ANYTHING. Just wait until another George w. Bush gets in power he just might mandate feeding grandma dog food and women pregnant and bare feet. Hmm?

Please stop stalking me. I'm sorry I called you an old man and said that you smell. I'm sorry that you and Roger speak with the same voice and keep trying to make everything personal instead of staying on topic. I'm sorry that you have to log out and back in to give me more than one thumbs down and most of all, I'm sorry about your penis. I'm not sure what's wrong with it, but something has you seriously backed up. Maybe you're strapped to a chair with your eyes held open and you're forced to troll boards…maybe your a head in a jar that someone had mercy on and set by an networked computer….I don't know. I can't know these things.

But one thing is sure, you can't just post and comment like a normal person. Now you're parroting back things I said about you….that you are actively monitoring and trolling intense debate in an unhealthy way. That's you man and don't forget it. Now try…just try to stay on topic like a responsible reasonable adult…OK cupcake. I hope this is entertaining for you, because I will just ignore your posts from now on unless it has something to do with the subject being discussed. Get a life man, this forum is not about you. Please stop stalking me.

Non-sequitor. I cannot stop doing something I have not started doing.

I'm sorry I called you an old man and said that you smell.

Understandable, as doing so only made it clearer to others, the sort of person you really are.

I'm sorry that you and Roger speak with the same voice and keep trying to make everything personal instead of staying on topic.

The implication obviously being, that Roger and I are the same person. One would think a stopped clock is right at least once a day, and that on something essentially apolitical, you'd get it right. Alas, a stopped digital clock is never right, I guess.

I'm sorry that you have to log out and back in to give me more than one thumbs down

Come now, you know that doesn't work. Your score wouldn't be dropping like a stone if you could keep thumbing yourself up.

    I'm sorry about your p***s.

How very Freudian of you. I have noted an unhealthy obsession with male genitalia, on the part of many on the left, what with what they call Tea Partiers and such.

But one thing is sure, you can't just post and comment like a normal person.

I take it, the manner in which you post, typifies the behavior of a normal person? Excuse me, but if that's the new normal, I'll take the classic normal, thank you very much.

Now you're parroting back things I said about you.

Normal people hold others to their words.

[Y]ou are actively monitoring and trolling intense debate in an unhealthy way.

Of course, you give yourself an out for your own behavior with the "unhealthy" bit, because when you do exactly this, you're undoubtedly doing in in a "healthy" way, right?

And a far as "troll" goes, listen to the words of Inigo Montoya.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Get a life man, this forum is not about you. No one cares.

What this forum is about, is discussion of current events. Your purpose here, as has been manifestly evidenced by your abusive and crude manner, is to disrupt it.

Already got a life, thanks. You go on and enjoy your World of Warcraft. I guess some people don't need that kind of escape, though, Cupcake. This isn't WoW. You can't bash to a pulp people who get your chain mail in a bunch, here.
