90 Reasons to Vote for Obama

Pages: 1 2

A new website designed to light the fire under unenthusiastic Democrats shows just how panicky the left is becoming about their Messiah’s chances in this November’s presidential election.

90 Days, 90 Reasons” is the uninspired name of a site created by overrated novelist Dave Eggers and music manager Jordan Kurland (it is unaffiliated with the Obama campaign). They write on the site that they recently “looked around and saw that many of Obama’s voters and donors from 2008 needed to be reminded of all he has accomplished, and all he will do if given another term.”

It’s quite telling that they sensed that previous Obama voters need reminders of what Obama has “accomplished.” It suggests that those voters are more focused on what he hasn’t done right (his broken promises, e.g., to close Guantanamo, to cut the deficit in half, to round up conservatives into internment camps) and/or what he has done wrong (e.g., the havoc he has wreaked on the economy, his complicity in the rise of Islamic fundamentalism at home and abroad, his exacerbation of the racial divide in this country), which the few remaining independent thinkers on the left are finding difficult to ignore or rationalize.

“This time the bumper stickers are few,” write Eggars and Kurland. “The HOPE posters are hard to find. There are no songs by will.i.am. We are three months away from the presidential election, and there is a stunning lack of energy displayed by likely Obama voters.” They proceed to regurgitate tired talking points about Obama inheriting and cleaning up Bush’s mess, such as “removing the threat of Osama bin Laden” (um, bin Laden was never the threat; the threat was and remains Islamic fundamentalism, which Obama has actually facilitated by embracing the Muslim Brotherhood in the White House itself). Eggars and Kurland note with a touch of panic that “if this doesn’t become an all-hands-on-deck movement to re-elect President Obama, he will lose. And Mitt Romney, who has campaigned as the most conservative Republican candidate in history, will become president.”

Romney is campaigning as the most conservative Republican candidate in history? There’s some desperate progressive hysteria for you. In any case, alarmed by this widespread apathy and disaffection among former Obama voters, Eggars and Kurland decided to ask “a wide range of cultural figures to explain why they’re voting for Obama in 2012, in the hopes that this might re-inspire the grassroots army that got Obama elected in the first place.” The goal is to post on their website a reason a day to vote for Obama, for the 90 days remaining until the election. “Let’s restart the fire,” the site’s banner says. “Let’s give President Obama four more years. Here are 90 reasons why.” Three of those reasons have been posted at the time of this writing.

First up is “cultural figure” Ben Gibbard, singer/songwriter for a band that Jordan Kurland’s management company just happens to represent, Death Cab for Cutie (cultural figures with at least a modicum of name recognition apparently weren’t available). Gibbard’s reason to re-support Obama is that he “is the first president in U.S. history to acknowledge the right of gay couples to marry and enjoy the full benefits of marriage in the eyes of the law.” That’s the lead-off reason? Gay marriage? The left insists on making this issue, of marginal or no importance to the vast majority of Americans (fewer than 5 percent of Americans self-identify as gay), more pressing than, say, rising unemployment or crushing national debt. Gibbard doesn’t mention the inconvenient fact that Obama was opposed to gay marriage until he kicked off his reelection campaign and it became politically expedient to claim that he had “evolved.” That blatant cynicism should be reason to denounce him, not support him; but since the end justifies the means for progressives, it’s not a sticking point.

And all of those ridiculous reasons are buried by the trillions of reasons for voting against him.

Maybe Obama can run for president of Venezuela and serve four more years there, since Chavez is rotting away from cancer the Cubans will need a new puppet in Caracas?

    • Asher

Yes, Obama belongs in a foreign country….not in America!

  • Oleg

Sounds like they will pretty much run out of "achievements" or other valid reasons by the end of the week. If they already knocked Obamacare and supporting gay marriage off the list what else is left? They might mention the green jobs plan but that will only bring up things like Solyndra, ethanol subsidies, subsidizing the smart grid (actaully dumb) and smart meter installs, the Chebby Volt, and other worthless wastes of money. They might bring up the auto industry bailouts but then it will come out about how the Department of Transportation loaned Fiat $5 billion dollars so Fiat could repay part of the $15 billion dollars loaned to them by the Treasury Department to buy out Chrysler, or again how they shafted secured creditors by pulling an end run anround the bankruptcy laws. I can't think of anything else Obama accomplished other then blowing hundreds of billions and attempting to corrupt the electoral process and ignoring immigrations laws.

When they get to the "I personally killed Bin Laden" claim, we'll know they are done.

President BOs (aka Stinky) largest constituants (not the "large" that is Richard Trumpka) are unions and the motivationally impaired. Their battle cries are:

    Motivationally impaired Americans for Obama!!

Union members for Obama!! (amused will like this one)
    Suck, suck suck, gurgle choke!
    Suck, suck suck, gurgle choke!

  • Karen

I went to the site and only see 5 reasons – all the other numbers are completely blank. Is it a joke or is there something wrong with the website? It's amusing, that's for sure, to see all those blank numbers.

  • Asher

When the Obama website start telling people to have their wedding guests donate to Obama 2012, instead of giving gifts to newly weds, we knew that they were having a rough time getting donations…Maybe they are getting donations, but the people are deciding that the Democrat party does not represent their values, or support a free society.

“25 REASONS: TIME FOR A SWITCH!” More Obama voters are SWITCHING for Romney then McCain voters SWITCHING for Obama.

Below is my list to counter the Slogan "Time for a Change" used by the Democrats and Barack Obama. If these are repeated on radio, TV, or on stage, then the audience can say "TIME FOR A SWITCH!" together. You don't have to agree with every one but if you agree with a majority, and you want to be in the majority, then it's "TIME FOR A SWITCH!"

Hispanics, Blacks, and minorities are born Democrats just like most Hispanics are born Catholics who are a very conservative people.

    1. If you think your Party has been taken over by Far-Left Progressives, and beyond, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH! (Reagan did!)
    2. If your moderate views are not being heard by those who have closed their ears, but they're still wanting you to open your wallets, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    3. If you were fooled and tricked by empty promises, fancy language, and catchy slogans repeated so many times that you actually believed them, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    4. If all the “Change” you have left in your pockets are Abe Lincolns, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    5. If your vote is taken for granted because of your race and/or gender, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    6. If you think America is being forced, slowly but surely and in the dark of night, into the proven failure of Socialism/Communism, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    7. If you're afraid of losing your 2nd Amendment right to protect your home, family, and yourself, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    8. If you're tired of those who normalize and moralize immorality, then it's TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    9. If you are too feminine for feminists, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    10. If you're tired of being taxed here, taxed there, taxed everywhere, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    11. If your centuries old Constitution is called “outdated,” as its freedoms are now being used to overthrow it by the decades old Rules for Radicals and the Communist Manifesto, and if Washington is thrown under the bus for Alinsky and Marx, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    12. If you’re tired of our soldiers getting spit on, even as those very soldiers put their lives on the line in order to protect our right to spit on them, then it's TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    13. If you’re tired of going in the Red filling up your car, blackmailed by the oil dictators who hate us, and by hypocrites who fill up their gas tanks to drive, or to fly in their private jet, to a Green protest against oil and gas, and you want to “Drill Here, Drill Now” instead of imposing moratoriums, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    14. If you feel your race is continuously, and purposefully, kept in a perpetual cycle of poverty and government dependability, as they are addicting you to themselves therefore requiring you to vote for them in order to get your fix, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    15. If you feel jobs are being lost because of the anti-Capitalist “Workers of the World Unite” and if you are passed over for a job, raise, or promotion due to your political beliefs, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    16. If your moderate and traditional moral and family values are now the extreme, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    17. If they say and think “The World First” instead of “Country First,” then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    18. If you’re tired of “Blame America and Apology Tours,” then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    19. If you’re tired of Leftist indoctrination and brainwashing in our schools, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    20. If you’re tired of the P.C. Police handcuffing your rights, your way of life, your thoughts and words, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    21. If you’re tired of being ridiculed for trying to be, or being, successful, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    22. If you’re tired of feeling guilty for the car you drive, the toys you own, the home you live in, the food you eat, and the amount of money you make, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    23. If you want a secure border and all immigration laws, that are on the books now, to be enforced, then it's TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    24. If you’re tired of “Do as I say, not as I do,“ hypocrites controlling your life, then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!
    25. If you’re afraid and ridiculed for believing in, and for writing or saying “God” or “Christmas,” then it’s TIME FOR A SWITCH!

Reagan? Really? Look I know he's the right-wing jesus but that guy did huge damage to the nation. Created a cycle of crushing debt, slashed aid for the needy, habituated the rich to endless subsidy – like they were spoiled rotten as it were – and helped crush the middle class by implementing changes that led to decades of wage stagnation for those who have to work for a living.
Probably his worst offence was normalising incompetence in high office.

      • fiddler

A lot of people LOVED him pal, on both sides of the aisle. Elected twice; re-elected in a land-slide. He ended the Cold War. I'll put that alongside Kennedy's Naval blockade for accomplishment. Say what you will.

      • PaulRevereNow

How did Reagan do "huge damage to the nation?" He didn't kill any jobs(Obama has destroyed 2 million jobs), didn't outsource any jobs; he lowered taxes and CREATED jobs; he strengthened our military, and he allowed us to develop our own natural resources. If this is what you call "huge damage," then check yourself in to the nearest counseling center; you need help.

  • Steve Chavez

More Obama voters are switching for Romney than McCain voters switching for McCain.

PAUL RYAN, THE NEXT JFK with popularity, good looks, but not the sleaziness that most Democrats dismiss. If Obama sees the writing on the wall, he will replace Biden with Hillary therefore getting the woman vote and those who will use gender racism "The First Female Vice-President" like the people that voted for Obama only due to his skin color which turned MLK's DREAM into his worst NIGHTMARE!

    • Steve Chavez

Correction duh! Should read "McCain voters switching for OBAMA." I'm sure you got it anyway but there's always one person who checks spelling and grammar and makes a big deal out of it.

    • LEE

Boy Steve, you hit the nail right on the head. You bet the chosen one wants to switch veeps to Hillary and fast. The chosen one knows that when Ryan finishes with Biden in their debate their won't be much left of good old Joe to spit out.

Cash for Clunkers, "You didn't build that", the Police acted "STUPIDLY" (the beer summit), Open mic #1 "I have to deal with (Netanyahu) every day " (to Nicolaus Sarkosi), Open mic #2: to Putin "After I'm elected I'll have a lot more flexibility". And on and on.

EXCELLENT LIST. Now I don't have to think of them and I'll spread it around. Thanks.

    • LEE

Just remember everyone, we cannot stop the chosen one by sitting at home on election day. Every conservative minded person must VOTE to save our country. Romney/Ryan give us the best chance to start making this country great again. No more feeling guilty for being America. It is up to us voters to make the change for all our good.

    • deprogrammer

      Okay, here we go:

Here's a bunch of reasons not to vote for Barry: Not his actual name.
      Nobel Peace prize:
Price of Gas: because one man set's gas prices?
Jobs: yeah, the Bush crash has made a real mess of things.
Bridges N Roads: decades of underfunding will do that you know.
      The stimulus: Started by Bush.
Keystone Pipeline: We should all be proud to live at ground zero of the next oil spill.
Dead Voters: Proof? Any proof? Or are you counting people who have died since Obama's election?
Fast n Furious: An actual mess but massively overstated by right according to evidence we have now.
Oil leak: BP dumps oil in the gulf and it's Obama's fault? Next thing you'll be saying Bush's incompetence made September 11th worse. No, wait it did.
Windmills that don't work: They don't turn? They don't produce electricity? Some examples would be helpful.
Cap n trade: Corporations have been gaming this program like crazy and mucking things up bad.
Tarp: Trying to clean up the Bush era mess.
Start treaty: because carrying on with a decades old treaty to prevent nuclear holocaust is bad?
Health care: Yes, we should all die when our insurance companies say so. Assuming we have insurance.
Card check: Workers organising to try and get a better life? Never, start shooting it's the FPM way!
Arizona border: this wouldn't have happened if the state levitated 100 feet in the air.
Global warming: Global warming is Obama's fault, eh? That's to stupid to warrant serious comment.
      NASA: See above.
Acorn: I could go into how those videos were staged and how it was cheap hatch work by a right wing punk but you wouldn't care about that would you?
Public Housing: Yes, children who chose to be born to the wrong parents deserve to die in the streets in winter.
h1n1: So now Obama is engaged in biological warfare by creating strains of flu?
Soros: You do realise Soros is older so couldn't have been "caused" by Obama?
Electric cars: *sigh* Another thing that proceeded Obama. I'm beginning to think you have some kind of attention deficit disorder.
Propping up home owners: Out in the streets with ya' says the good FPMer!
Supreme court appointments: Yes, much better to leave the utter corrupt right-wingers in charge they are totally legit.
Destruction of the Military DEAD SEALS: bush wrecked the military with endless occupations, terrible planning and constant deployments.
No Women's Health Care Till its to late: Wait, you don't like health care.
Zero Foreign policy: You're not paying attention or even trying at this point.
Education Dept: decades old department. ADD kicking in.
      EPA: See above.
Solendra [sic]: An actual mistake. Eh, you're one for, well, the rest of the list so far.
MF Global: Guilt by association? You can do better
Eric Holder: Yeah, repubes hate that guy what other reason does anyone need?
Fast Furious: You repeated this to pad the list.
Bl_ck Panthers: Not connected to Obama at all unless you believe their is some kind of conspiracy. Very FPM of you.
IRS: Not unless Obama has access to a time machine.
Welfare: Death to the poor the FPMer demands it!
Murder Rate: Yeah, Obama's trigger finger must be tired from killing EVERYBODY.
Entitlements …… : Much better to deal with food riots and unrest. Bring out the machine guns eh?

      • fiddler

You don't get the general gist here because you are a collectivist. This mentality manufactures and coddles "victims". This mentality loves to punish achievers and make them feel guilty because of their success.

About Black Panthers; you didn't try to connect the dots. We had BLATANT voter intimidation in PA (that you seem to dismiss) and Eric Holder did nothing, nothing, nothing. Since he is Obama's AG, that implicates him for preferring lawlessness over lawfullness.

        • deprogrammer

No, I exposed the lies, misstatements and out right silliness of the list. So you're attitude is anyone who doesn't agree is a collectivist, eh? I would rather be what you think a collectivist is than a deviant who can't empathise with other human beings.

    1. He's black!
    2. He's going to give us lots of free stuff!
    3. Everyone in the 57 states knows he's really really smart, even the corpse-men.
    4. He's created millions and millions of jobs, that's why the economy is better than it's ever been!
    5…excuse me while I go puke…then just cut'n'paste 1-5 until reason 90…

Mr. Obama wants to be re-elected for all the positive things he has achieved over his term in office. Here is a listing of those "positives":

He has increased the number of people out of work,
He has increased the national debt by $5 trillion,
He has increased the numbers of people on food stamps,
He has increased the issuing of executive directives that violate laws and the Constitution,
He has increased the anxiety of companies causing them to hire fewer people,
He has increased the number of companies looking to move overseas,
He has increased the number of black students in DC attending public schools by eliminating vouchers which would allow them to go to better schools, (By doing this, he prevents these low-life's from attending the school his daughters attend.)
He has increased taxes on everyone by passing Obamacare,

By all measures, he wants to move "forward" with his plan to "Fundamentally" change the US.
