School Principal Doesn’t Want Kids ‘Exposed’ to Conservative Speaker

Some Ronan citizens are demanding answers. “I’m pissed off,” said school volunteer Chuck Lewis. “Why would a school dishonor a man who served his country?” Lewis, a former Marine like Molen, said, “They should have never censored him like that.” Molen wrote:

I served three years in the Marine Corps so that others might stand before their peers or even a group of students, but never did I think my voice would be stilled by some mysterious caller(s) on the notion that I might say something they “thought” would not be in the students’ best interests…

My intent was to inspire and motivate those looking for an encouraging word and message of hope beyond the walls of the institution they were leaving to the next chapter in their young lives. It spoke to the contributions and greatness of their teachers, administrators, parents and peers… But I guess I was wrong about teachers and/or school administrators.

He certainly was. And though his personal story is one of more overt censorship, there is a clear scarcity of conservative speakers for student bodies. A recent study by the Young America’s Foundation noted that the overwhelming majority of college commencement speeches were given by liberals – by a ratio of better than seven-to-one. Of the top 100 universities in the latest U.S. News rankings, 71 featured speakers from the left while only ten hosted conservatives. And of the top 35 schools, only one featured a conservative speaker. While no comparable study apparently exists for the political orientation of speakers at high school commencements, it’s difficult to imagine that the numbers are very different.

Still incensed about the cancellation, Molen asserted that in America, people have the right to listen to differing points of view. “I mistakenly thought that was part of an education. Evidently not in certain jurisdictions”:

Instead [the Ronan students] were indoctrinated with a sense of fear and mistrust that a fellow Montanan just might stand before them and say something some official school administrator deemed “possibly harmful.”

He closed his Daily Inter Lake piece by asking, “In America today, are our children taught or indoctrinated? Is there censorship? I’ll let the reader decide. Me? I now have the answer.” In an interview at Big Hollywood, Molen said, “This is not something that should be allowed to happen. I hope whatever notoriety comes out of this, that it will wake people up.”

I wonder why the school ever invited Mr. Molen. Did the person(s) extending the invitation not do any background checks to see if he met the school'srequirements? Or was his invitation made completely without the principal's knowledge or permission? If that is the case, was a teacher responsible: a teacher who as yet seems uninterested in defending Mr. Molen: his/her own choice for commencement speaker?

Who have been some past commencement/assembly speakers at this school? What were their political views, and were those considered before the speakers arrived on campus?

Don't forget the great example of hospitality and proper etiquette displayed by this principal: waiting until your guest arrives to un-invite him is a blatant sign of disrespect.

More to this story, I suspect.

I'm sure they just wanted to embarass and humiliate Mr. Molen , purely for political reasons. Show's how compassionate and open-minded liberals are, doesn't it?

It would be harder to cancel the speak if Mr. Molen was offered some compensation and signed a contract, a cancellation would be a breach of contract and the school would think twice before they did foolish things like this. And since more than 80% of the schools have progressive administrators, It would be better for Mr. Molen to accept the compensation and later donate to conservative foundations himself.

Didn't you read the article? HE WAS SPEAKING FOR FREE AS A GIFT of his time and knowledge. He doesn't want to punish the school – is sole intent is that students not be brainwashed and denied their basic rights by a narrow-minded Left Fascist Little Hitler.

Typial Leftist tactics. Trying to control thought and message. I bet Michael Moore would never suffer this disgraceful treatment!!

  • oldtimer

Parents and students should demand accountability from this principal and the one who wouldn't let the proud to be an American song to be used. These people, graduates of our system of high(lower)learning just prove a point for home schooling. Who took his place?

  • BS77

As Michael Savage said, "LIberalism is a mental disorder." This principal is another fool in a suit.

    • Amused

yea and Savage is an escapee from the mental ward , he's missing his 'suit " though ….a straight-jacket .

  • StephenD

We still don't know who spoke in his stead. I think that would be just as telling.

Incidents of intolerance like this one have been reported several times over the recent past. Such stories never fail to make me wonder what it is about leftist society that is so desirable that they adhere to their vision of it.

    Oh Jesus, John McCain…
In 2008, Obama supporting teacher Diantha Harris of Cumberland County, North Carolina bullied a young female student whose father was overseas, because she stated her family supported McCain.

Mmm mmm mmm, Barack Hussein Obama
In 2009, elementary school children were taught to sing a cult like song of praise to Obama at B. Bernice Young Elementary School in Burlington Township, New Jersey.

Like something out of East Germany during the Cold War…"

    Si, se puede!
In 2012, "teacher of the year" Elena Garcia-Velasco of Roosevelt High School in Portland, Oregon praised Obama during a graduation speech, uttering his signature slogan 'Yes we can' in Spanish.

    Not about him you wont!
In 2012, high school teacher Tanya Dixon-Neely of North Rowan High School in Spencer, North Carolina was videotaped screaming to her class that criticizing Obama could result in jail time and that Mitt Romney was a bully in high school.

    • RoguePatriot6

And that's only what we hear about.

  • al222

once again: until conservatives can wrap their collective heads around what is happening in the public school system and put a stop to it, everything that happens in Washington, D.C. will continue to happen. The election of Barack Obama was no anomaly. it was the end product of progressive brainwashing that occurs–every day–in schools.

    • mrbean

Outlaw the teachers unions and allow vouchers everywhere. Better yet privatize all education.

      • Tom Sullivan

Yup. Aside from high cost and low quality, government schools ought to be disbanded because they are producing students who think socialism is the way to go. A Rasmussen Report poll from April 9, 2009 shows that for adults under 30, 37% prefer capitalism, 33% socialism, and 30% are undecided. Disgusting.

    • wsk

The problem is that Conservatives just throw their hands up and say "Vouchers!". I don't know the answer, but I don't know if leaving the system and giving the libtards unfettered control of the education system is the way to go.

Mr. Molen was probably disinvited because the principal found out Molen actually accomplished something. More than likely Molen was replaced with a speaker who talked about wanting to accomplish something along the lines of — you kniow — having a just society, fair government, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Personal achievement? Oh no, no, no, no, no. We must have "collective" achievement.

  • clarespark

Our country is so polarized that each side misperceives the other. I wrote about their distorted views here: http://clarespark.com/2009/12/16/perceptions-of-t…. The moral: know your enemy and how he thinks.

This article lacks facts, most likely because it was plagiarized from Breitbart or Gateway Pundit. Mr. Tapson has not contacted anybody or verified any facts, or even read multiple versions of the story he is regurgitating. All he really does is read entertainment news and then offer a feeble spin on it.

Gerald Molen is teamed up with Hoover Institute's Dinesh D'Souza to produce the dystopian futurist "documentary" Obama: 2016. The speaking invitation was originally extended by a member of the Lake County Republican Women's Club. The teacher handling the speaker was supposed to and did not review the speech as is correct procedure for graduation and motivational speeches. This was discovered last minute. After Principal Stack cancelled the invitation he was forced to flee his home because of death threats.

'' Gerald Molen is teamed up with Hoover institute's Dinesh D'Souza to produce the dystopian futurist documentary Obama: 2016''…. what is that..some illegal organisation!!! or simply the reflection of of your predjudiced perspectives that finds 'offensive'; critics of that dumb liberalism that seig heils obama and would have free thinkers consigned to history or indoctrination camps. Clearly it is you who needs to take the blinkers off.
Again, Should being a member of Lake County Republican Womens Club rule one out from extending an invitation to the guest speaker…You seem to think it does ( you toe rag fascist)

  • Vermont Yid

Cancelation of Molen's speech was the right thing to do. After all, had been allowed to speak to those students, there's no telling what it might have lead to. Those poor kids might have thought they can think for themselves – OH MY GAWD!!!!!

"And though his personal story is one of more overt censorship, there is a clear scarcity of conservative speakers for student bodies."

There's a clear scarcity of conservatism for public schools, period!!!

Liberlism has been a terminal disease injected into our kids at our public schools and throughout our education system.

  • James C. Harrison

Did that principal actually have the guts to stand in front of that student body and tell them that they did not have the discernment to know truth from error–That they could not think for themselves? That doesn't speak well of public education. Check out King's Way Classical Academy on line.

  • Ghostwriter

I think that Principal Tom Stack is an idiot and a fool. He should have let Mr. Molen speak.

    • wsk

Couldn't do it. Libs are very afraid of opposing viewpoints because their own opinions wouldn't pass the acid test.

  • http://blog.cutthemalarkey.com Vic Kelley

I'm very sorry to read this happened in Montana. I thought everybody there had common sense. Guess I've still got more to learn about the rest of America. Hopefully, the graduates will learn to think for themselves and will read about Mr. Molen and others like him in newspapers or online. I'm going to add this to my list of reasons to homeschool. I'm going to need a bigger hard drive as that list is growing exponentially.

    • patriot077

Real Montanans wouldn't do what this jackhammer did. Regrettably, too many libs have been moving into the state and trying to re-mold it to their twisting liking. Kind of like what Robert Redford and his ilk are doing in Colorado.

I have family in MT that are doing all they can to elect real Americans.

Just another example of how deeply divided , how utterly polarized , this country has become .Politics have taken on a poisonous atmosphere , because politicians are choosing rhetoric over truth , so much so that people find it harder and harder to get at the truth , and too many are satisfied to accept babble and spin over the FACTS . "High Scool Graduation SPeaker " ? What in the hell for ? Why ANYONE other than the Principle or valedictorian [s] need to give a speech ata high school graduation is beyond me . What's next ? Kindergarten ? Vocation , getting a job , joining the military , or going on to college should be the only subjects of a high school graduation speech . This is EXACTLY WHY , there will be no winners in November , just an illusion of one , for NOTHING will get done in a contentious , politically bitterly divided Congress .
Don't think so ? Wait and see . People STILL dont know how to read the handwriting on the wall .

  • Amused

LOL….I hear the crickets , happens everytime around here …..when a sobering truth is spoken .

Why would the principal do that? If Molen was ever to come to our school, I'd let the principal give him special treatment!
