Siding with Savages

Atlas Shrugs blogger Pamela Geller, lightning rod for the hateful fury of the unholy alliance of Islamists and the radical left, is under attack again for daring to run a pro-Israel advertising campaign in New York and San Francisco.

Ms. Geller is executive director of the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) and of Stop Islamization of America (SIOA), in addition to being the author of Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance and The Post-American Presidency: The Obama Administration’s War on America (with Robert Spencer). For Islamists and the multiculturalist progressives who have bought into the Muslim Brotherhood’s strategy of demonizing its opposition as “Muslim-hating,” Geller is the most public face of the mythical “Islamophobia” in America.

Geller’s AFDI advertisements in San Francisco read, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat jihad.” In New York, the ads read, “19,250 deadly Islamic attacks since 9/11/01. And counting. It’s not Islamophobia, it’s Islamorealism.”

Some public officials in both cities are taking unprecedented steps to denounce and distance themselves from the ads. As Ms. Geller related in a FrontPage Magazine interview, Greenburgh, New York Town Supervisor Paul Feiner announced that he wanted Metro-North to warn passengers that the ads could be upsetting and don’t represent Metro-North’s views or that of the community. Muslims, he said, “should not be discriminated against. The posters encourage hatred, discrimination and do not help the efforts to fight hate crimes.” Peter Swiderski, the mayor of Hastings-on-Hudson, and the Board of Trustees sent out a letter to the village asking residents to write to the New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) expressing dismay that the ad was not deemed hate speech. The letter also read,

While the Board respects everyone’s right to free speech, we categorically condemn the bigotry and innuendo expressed by this billboard message. To tar a faith and its followers because of the actions of a few is deplorable, hateful and morally repugnant.

Except that the ad doesn’t refer to all Muslims. It doesn’t even “tar” Islam, which jihadists themselves already do a spectacularly good job of tarring. The ad merely notes the 19,250 deadly attacks (a number that has since risen dramatically) since 9/11/01 carried out in the name of Islam. It underscores the “Islamorealism” that people like Feiner and Swiderski, in their politically correct bubble, prefer to deny and ascribe instead to “Islamophobia.” It refers to jihadists, who have no compunction about killing less fanatical Muslims. Apparently Feiner and Swiderski are more outraged that the ad “could be upsetting” to jihadists than they are about the Muslim victims of their co-religionists. How tolerant of them.

Geller countered by responding to Swiderski and asking why no such mailing went out concerning recent anti-Israel ads run by the MTA. “This speaks to a systemic, institutionalized anti-Semitism prevalent in your administration and among the Board. Care to comment?” Geller posed a rhetorical question to FrontPage Mag interviewer Jamie Glazov, “Why didn’t he react as viscerally when the same kiosks had vicious blood libels posted about Israel?

San Francisco, the city that proudly champions every America- and Israel-hating radical nutball or movement you can name, was of course horrified by what it deemed to be racist hate speech from “notorious anti-Muslim hate blogger” Geller and AFDI (the AFDI has been stamped as a “hate group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center, whose mission is to designate as such everyone who disagrees with the well-funded progressive agenda).

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, reluctant to open itself up to an AFDI lawsuit for suppressing its free speech, did not refuse Geller’s ad but added a disclaimer: “SFMTA Policy Prohibits Discrimination Based On National Origin, Religion and Other Characteristics and Condemns Statements That Describe Any Group As Savages.”

Not content with posting the disclaimer alongside the ad itself, SFMTA Board of Directors chairman Tom Nolan felt compelled to announce publicly that “the recent ad has no value in facilitating constructive dialogue or advancing the cause of peace and justice.”

Dhimmitude is mostly a fusion of fear and opportunism….sprinkled – in many cases – with just plain apathy. But it is occasionally an ideological imperative….a passionate expression of infidel contempt for infidel society….a desire for the destruction of the society in which one lives.

This is why Marxists are particularly prone to such a mindset; there is no social revolution in the offing to destroy what is perceived to be an unjust society, but dhimmitude becomes an alternative stepping-stone towards the same goal. The irony is, it's no longer relevant to them what kind of society replaces the old order. Perhaps it was never terribly relevant in the first place….Marxism was just a ready-made blueprint that fit the bill. Now, Islam is seen as the new, viable alternative.

    • Kufar Dawg

SOme politicians, judges and LEO's might be subverted/corrupted to see islamofascism as the "new, viable alternative." Trillions of islamofascist petrodollars have a way of buying influence that the mafia could only dream about.

If you aren't Islamophobic, you aren't a thinking person. You have every reason to be alarmed!! Just look at Syria …over 30,000 killed this year so far. Look at Sudan, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan…..gee, what is the common denominator here? Islam is a horrendous Dark Age slavery. Ms. Geller is a hero to millions of Americans.

  • Schlomotion

Ms. Geller was careful to word her pro-Israel ads in a way that was not specifically racist and religiously bigoted, but the public is not fooled by her vague appeal to Comte de Gobineau. She chose her words carefully to evade the backlash against her act of advertisers' hooliganism. "Lightning rod" is an appropriate metaphor. This is what a lightning rod looks like:

Schlo actually believes if he French kisses and Kitty licks Jihadis with enough affection and skill he can make them like him.
Going through life wearing knee pads and carrying water to assuage and befriend those seeking your destruction is more of a psychology than a thought process which accounts for the endless spewing of factual diarrhea emanating from good dhimmi Schlo.
Imagine hanging out with such people?? No.

He might be one of them himself. His complete blindness to islamofascism and its concomitant persecution/murder/rape/forcible conversion of unbelievers in the 21st century can't be mere coincidence. Everything he routinely indicts to zionism is SOP in islamofascist states.

      • Schlomotion

As should be patently obvious by now, I am aloof to the desires and reactions of Jihadis.

'Aloof' is such an interesting word. I notice you didn't chose the word 'opposed'.

        • reader

There're two things that are patently obvious by now: you are a liar and you are a muslim brotherhood shill.

          • Schlomotion

Come on. They're not all that bad. What's wrong with brotherhood?

          • reader

Nothing, if you are fond of the collective of genocidal misogynous barbarians. Some libertarian.

          • Schlomotion

They can't be that misogynous. They still manage to procreate. What's it been, 17,000 years since the first Egyptians? They're still going. All the women haven't left yet.

          • reader

That misogynous? If you can be so dumb not to even know that the first Egyptians weren't that misogynous, simply because they weren't Arabs, I wonder for how many staff asylum must pay to keep you from drowning in a toilet every morning.

          • Kufar Dawg

Syrian used to prevent its Jewish population from leaving the country — and it wasn't because the islamofascists that ran/run the place liked or respected them or Judaism. How do I know this? I met a Syrian Jewish family at my ACT for America chapter.

Geller carefully worded her ads to show the depravity that is at the core of Islam. Sometimes the truth hurts.

    • Drakken

Stupid smarmy leftist progressives like you are why the coming blood shed will be worse than it needs to be, because you openly side with the muslim savages and think we westerners are the enemy. A bootlicker like you always digs their own grave and our gene pool will be better for it.

dhimmitude has been unsuccessfully tried for 14 centuries. It has only worked well for muslims who view dhimmitude as a system of economic exploitation, sexual license with non-muslims, the confinement of women to destitution, and the occasional slaughter of infidels if they become too numerous. All of this makes dhimmitude unacceptable in any form in any political democracy. muslims possess the right to their own pathetic belief system, but do not have any mandate to apply it in any form in a pluralist society such as the United States. It is always a mistake to tolerate the intolerable. islam is the anti-thesis of western civilization. The West will never be secure until or unless islam is destroyed or rendered harmless.

The hypocrisy is breathtaking. These useful idiots "tar" religion, especially Christianity, all the time. But criticism of their Muslim masters can't be tolerated. Lenin had his useful idiots, the brotherhood and the Mullahs have their Dhimmini's. Let's see how long these lapdogs last when the Muslims take over, they'll find out that appeasement only means that the beast eats you last.

Aside the discussion . Exactly what is the picture about? who are they? what did they do? when was it took? is it a shot from a movie? does the aggrieved family members sanction the publicity?

If we have a point to make, is it better to set the example of decency so that others may follow, rather than causing more conflict and hatred. ?

Referring to the MTA ad in question Tapson writes "It doesn’t even “tar” Islam, which jihadists themselves already do a spectacularly good job of tarring." He must not have read Judge Paul Englemayer's written
decision which in pertinent part states:
"…MTA was reasonable—indeed, clearly correct—to regard the AFDI Ad as demeaning a group of people based on religion (Islam) and/or national origin and ancestry (from “Muslim countries” in the Middle East)… "The Court must instead address the constitutionality of that [non-demeaning] standard " (page 18).

One should be careful to maintian credibility and it is not helpful to do so to make the false and disingenuous argument that the subject ad was not demeaning to Muslims, especially in light of the judge's decision. In deed SOIA 's lawyers apparently abondoned that argument as well.
To make false statements, as Tapson has done here, will undermine his credibility and detract from the real importance the MTA case which is the constitutional right of ADIF or anyone else to criticize the Islamic belief system in a public forum. That is the key issue.

    • reader

What Mr. Tapson says is that Islam is self-demeaning enough in and of itself, and he is correct based on the contents of Koran alone. Perhaps, the court should consider addressing this issue and banning islam from demeaning itself and its followers further.

      • David

Tapson says… what he said… which is what I quoted accurately. The argument that the ad is not demeaning to Muslims is an argument the lawyers for AFDI abandoned. It is an argument the judge didn't buy either. Whether Tapson also says that Islam is "self – demeaning" (is that an oxymoron?) is not relevant to my point. Tapson made a blatantly erroneous statement when he wrote that the ad was not demeaning to Muslims. It is and those Muslims that are offended can go pound sand… or work to eliminate injustice in their repressive theocracies and monarchies throught the barbaric Muslim world (fat chance)

The court is not the business of giving philosophical advice, but if it were neither you nor I would , upon reflection, want it to ban Islam from demeaning itself and its followers if that meant abridging anyone's right to express their ideas or attack someone else's idea.

Western elites, who fancy themselves more intelligent and more enlightened than the wise men and prophets of every religion, and who base their entire right to rule on that intelligence and enlightenment, are not in the habit of admitting that they are fools. And concerning Islam they are fools.

    • David

      1. "Western elites"? No, how about western civilized persons?
2."Fancy themselves more intelligent than the wise men (sic) and prophets of every religion"? No, how about thoughtful and ethical people do not shy away from challenging immoral belief systems merely because they have been around a while.
      3. "Base their entire right to rule on that intelligence and enlightenment"? Not a bad basis for leading.
      4. "not in the habit of admitting they are fools and concerning Islam they are fools"? No, wise leaders can admit mistakes, but tell us, exactly how have (westren) wise men been fools as concerns Islam ?

      • kbs55

Western elites (politicos) who look at Islam as a compatible Monotheistic religion with Judaism and Christianity are misinformed about the nature of Islam. Refusing to see Islam as the irredeemable barbarism that it is, and denouncing it as such. Instead they defend it.

    • David

      (Continued )

Specifically, Islam is a belief system:

      1. that is so repressive of human rights that homosexual, premarital, and extramarital sex are all serious crimes punishable by dismemberment, disfigurement, or death;

      2. that is not only homophobic and misogynistic, but is supremacist and denies equal treatment under the (sharia) law to all ( e.g. women and non-muslims);

      3. that prescribes a theocracy wherein there is no separation of church and state and wherein unelected religious figures trump the decisions of elected representatives (when elections are allowed at all);

      4. in which there is not only no freedom of speech, religion, or conscience but in which apostasy and blasphemy are capital offenses. It is tragically ironic that those who condemn such a belief system are charged with bigotry and hate (Islamophobia) and are demonized as right wing hatemongers! Wouldn't those who support such a belief system be the right wing hatemongers? Apologists for this belief system are the enemies of a free and just society. No tolerance for intolerance.
Please help us understand your claim that western elites have misunderstood Islam?
